New York City — 12:41 PM
The sky was wounded.
Blue light split the clouds as the portal flared wide, spilling out the Chitauri like locusts of metal and fire. But this time, they didn't descend upon a defenseless city.
They descended into a war-zone already waiting for them.
Mobile Command — Peter Parker
From the roof of the new Parker Tower command spire, I stood encased in a gleaming colossus of metal and intent. My newly forged War Pattern Helios Armour, drawn from the forgotten dreams of the God-Emperor himself. The silhouette echoed the Terminator suits of legend. Dense Vibranium-S and Uru plating, layered gravitic fields and a back-mounted generator haloed with crimson fire.
In my right hand burned Dawnbringer, its head was pulsing as if a sun was trapped in motion; every swing carved charged arcs through the air. The hammer swollen in size by the wish of its bearer.
A.N: The armour design is terrible intentionally as it's a crude armour cobbled together hastily and the hammer will change appearance based on the user's increased proficiency.

I surveyed the city through my HUD, data threads streaming past my eyes. Flight paths, heat maps, shield telemetry. Everything moved under my fingertips. I was conducting the orchestra of a world prepared.
"Frank, status." I asked through the comms.
"Spartan IVs holding perimeters one through three. No ground conceded. They're learning the hard way not to underestimate us."
"Copy. Keep rotating fire teams. Don't give them the chance to form a stable line."
The street-level cams showed the Spartan IVs moving like disciplined ghosts through the avenues, armour glinting gunmetal and chrome, each soldier a human tank. Plasma bolts hissed off their energy shields while they returned fire from Magnetically Accelerated Rifles and laser rifles, tearing Chitauri flyers from the sky.
Overhead, F-302 interceptors screamed through the rift's halo, breaking into knife-tight squadrons. AV-49 Wasp gunships danced between skyscrapers, thundering. The sky was chaos but human chaos. It was controlled, directed, brilliant.
The Archangel of the Web
Gwen was the light at the centre of the storm.
Her Archangel of the Web suit flared against the dark clouds. Six wings of hard-light unfurling, glowing white weaving into the alien maelstrom. She moved faster than radar, hardlight whips snapping from her gauntlets, each strike cutting through a dozen Chitauri at once.
When the first leviathan surged from the portal, its maw glowing like a furnace, Gwen rose to meet it head-on.
"You picked the wrong world." Yelled Gwen.
She plunged through the creature's armor plates, the Archangel's plasma lances igniting from her forearms. The beast howled, split apart in a wash of molten rain that scattered across the skyline.
From the command tower, I allowed myself one breath of pride before returning to the fight.
Avengers — Midtown
Captain America directed evac routes, his shield a blur of deflection and precision. Natasha and Clint fought shoulder-to-shoulder, the latter freed from Loki's thrall and firing explosive shafts with grim precision. Tony streaked past them, marking targets for orbital relays and snarking over comms.
"You know, I don't like being out-shined by the new couple in town!" Quipped Tony.
"Then fly faster, Stark!" Yelled Cap.
"Working on it!"
A shadow fell over them. It was Thor, landing amid thunder, Mjolnir cracking the pavement. He looked up just in time to see Peter streak through the skyline, Dawnbringer blazing, smashing a Leviathan into soldering wreckage.
For a moment, the god of thunder could only stare.
"By Odin's beard… I want a new hammer "
Street-Level — Spartan IV Command
Frank Castle's boots crunched on shattered asphalt as he shouldered his heavy laser rifle, scanning the intersection. "Zone Charlie clear. Civilians safe."
A squadron of EXO-45 Patriot Battlesuits thundered overhead, multi-barreled autocannons blazing which were replaced in place of the plasma railgun hybrid, melting enemy armor into slag. One landed beside him, its pilot saluting through the canopy.
"Good work. Keep the lanes open. No civvie gets left behind."
The Battlesuit nodded and vaulted back into the air. The city shook but held not crumbling. The city was fighting back.
Above the Tower
I burst through a cloud bank, armour glowing from re-entry heat. I landed on the tower's edge, Dawnbringer humming with restrained fury. Loki turned, smirking even as lightning flashed across his armor.
"You mortals never learn." Taunted Loki.
"We just learn faster than you think and you haven't taught much." I replied back.
Their weapons met, the scepter's blue against the sun-fire of Dawnbringer. Shockwaves scattering debris for blocks. Gwen dove in from above, light wings folding tight as she struck, knocking Loki off-balance and breaking his magi shield with a kinetic pulse.
Thor landed behind them with a crash of thunder, grinning through the ozone. "Brother, you look pale."
Loki's sneer faltered. He glanced from the god of thunder to the mortal armed and armored like a demigod, to the angelic huntress blazing beside him and for the first time, doubt crept into his eyes. He felt unsure of his glorious purpose.
But before he could say anything Hulk jumped in and smashed him around like a ragdoll.
" I am a god." Rasped Loki in a weak voice before losing consciousness.
"All units, maintain defensive grid! The rift's going to destabilize! F-302s, target the chariots. Spartans, clear fallback corridors! Let's end this!"
"Copy that, boss. Lock and load!" Thundered Frank.
Across the city, the coordinated might of Parker Industries and Earth's defenders came together. Railguns, laser rifles, repulsors, divine lightning, undying fire and the grace of an angel.
Natasha took Loki's scepter and dislodged the Tesseract under Selvig's guidance as he was freed due to a concussion caused by the earlier clash of Peter and Loki's weapons.
The rift began to collapse inward, spiraling with white-blue fury.
Gwen soared above the tower, wings wide, catching the collapsing light. Peter leapt to her side, his armour's thrusters roaring, Dawnbringer raised.
Together, they drove the blade formed from their might into the beam's heart — a blinding flash swallowing the skyline. Their target was the mothership.
Then silence.
Aftermath
Smoke cleared. The portal was gone. The city burned, but it still stood.
On the tower's ruined deck, Thor rested Mjolnir against his shoulder and eyed Dawnbringer appreciatively. "A fine weapon. It sings like a storm."
Peter, his armour steaming, managed a grin. "It's a gift from a demi god of the forge."
Thor laughed, loud and booming. "Then Asgard is jealous this day."
Gwen landed beside Peter, her wings folding, faceplate retracting. The glow faded to something almost human.
She looked out over the battered skyline, voice soft. "We did it."
Peter slipped his arm around her waist, voice low. "No. We all did."
Above them, the sun broke through the cloud-scar, shining over the city that refused to fall.
