The tunnel behind them exploded.
Not figuratively.
Actually exploded.
A deafening roar tore through the underground passage as an entire section of the ceiling collapsed inward, concrete and twisted metal crashing into the corridor like a tidal wave. Dust burst violently through the air, swallowing everything behind them in gray smoke.
People screamed.
The ground shook hard enough to throw several captives off balance.
Aiden grabbed the little girl tighter against his chest while Noah shoved two stumbling men forward through the half-open cargo gate.
"Move!" Noah shouted.
The panic finally became complete.
Everyone ran.
No more exhaustion.
No more hesitation.
Pure survival instinct took over as the group pushed deeper into the cargo tunnel beyond the gate. Emergency lights flickered overhead while warning sirens echoed through the underground route in distorted bursts.
