"I have several hundred people working under me on this project. If I give up, they'll be left high and dry?" Ethan Hayes' father said helplessly, "Aren't we both doing this out of necessity..."
"Well, we can only hope Vivian can help us out." Mrs. Hayes sighed, worry in her eyes as she glanced at the study door, shook her head, and turned into the living room.
The afternoon passed quickly, and by the time Vivian York came out of the study, the sun had already set.
Mrs. Hayes enthusiastically invited Vivian to stay for dinner, but she politely declined, using the excuse that her roommates were waiting for her back at school to have dinner together.
Seeing Vivian's firm decision to return to school, Mrs. Hayes warmly offered to drive her back.
Vivian was really just there to tutor, so she felt it would be inappropriate to let them drive her back. After various refusals, Mrs. Hayes finally relented and asked Ethan to at least take her to the subway station.
Ethan instinctively refused the suggestion: "Why should I? I don't want to take her."
Mrs. Hayes rolled her eyes at him, "Respect your teachers. How did I teach you when you were young?? Vivian is your teacher, after all. I'm asking you to take your teacher, and you're not willing??"
"She's no teacher, just a little shrimp..." Ethan sneered, catching a glimpse of his dad already looking for a broom. He quickly walked to the door, gesturing at Vivian with his chin, "Let's go. Why are you still standing there?"
"..."
Vivian politely said goodbye to Mr. and Mrs. Hayes, then followed behind Ethan into the elevator.
The elevator space was small and enclosed. Vivian and Ethan each occupied a corner and remained silent until they exited the elevator.
After stepping out, Vivian turned to Ethan, who was following her and smiled, "I can walk to the subway station on my own. You should hurry back."
Ethan looked down slightly, glancing at Vivian standing in front of him, then turned his head towards the nearby flowerbed, speaking indifferently, "You think I want to take you anyway?? I just came downstairs and have to go back up again so quickly, I'll definitely be nagged by my parents."
Alright, sir, whatever you say, sir.
Maintaining a graceful smile, Vivian silently turned and walked toward the community exit.
She must have been blind at the subway entrance earlier to think this guy was a bit cute.
After leaving the community, crossing a road, and turning a corner, she reached the subway station entrance, then said to Ethan, "You can stop here. Thanks, and when you get back, make sure to review everything I taught you today. I'll quiz you on this week's content next week."
"Whatever." Ethan snorted, didn't even say goodbye, and directly turned back to walk to his home.
Vivian couldn't help but tug at her lips, thinking this kid had quite the rebellious streak.
It takes about fifty minutes to get back to Silverwood University, Crestview Campus on Line 2 from the subway station near Ethan's place. By the time Vivian returned to her dorm, it was almost six o'clock.
The girls in her dorm were already hungry with eyes practically glowing green. As soon as Vivian came back, they immediately clamored for her to treat them to a good meal with the money she earned from tutoring.
