***Cadiz***
The twins were asleep.
For once.
Cyrus had spent most of the evening crying for reasons known only to himself. Mirin had been slightly easier to settle, though not by much.
Now both of them were finally asleep in the cradle beside our bed.
I was half-curled against Raizel's chest when he came back from speaking with Duke Magnus. The room was dark except for the lamp burning on the bedside table.
For a while neither of us spoke.
His hand moved slowly through my hair, comforting and familiar.
Then he said quietly,
"You were right."
I lifted my head slightly.
"About what?"
"Father."
That woke me up immediately.
"The Sailcrest thing?"
Raizel nodded.
I pushed myself up onto one elbow.
"Well?"
A faint amusement flickered across his face.
"You're impatient."
"Raizel."
His hand slid down my back.
"Apparently Duke Devon found the resurrection text first."
I blinked.
"What?"
"It was right after the war. During the cleanup of the palace archives."
