Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 – Awkward Mornings & Accidental Slaps

Kazuto groaned in his sleep, rolling around in the creaky dorm bed.

"Ughhh… five more minutes… just five more…"

A soft voice drifted over him.

"Kazuto… wake up."

Like a melody. His shoulder was nudged slightly.

"Come on… we'll be late for class if you keep sleeping."

Kazuto cracked one eye open, his vision blurry. Hanamori's face was right above his, her amber eyes warm as she tried to wake him up. But Kazuto was so sleepy. He groaned in his sleep, rolling around in the bed.

"Ughhh… five more minutes… just five more…" he said sleepily.

A soft voice drifted over him.

"Kazuto… wake up."

The sound was gentle, and then he slowly opened his eyes. Looks like he hadn't fully woken up.

"Hmm… why is there a cute girl in my room?" he said while rubbing his eye.

Hanamori blinked.

"Huh?"

Kazuto's eyes shot open fully, and he sat up straight, waving his hands.

"N-Nothing! Just talking nonsense, don't worry about it!"

She tilted her head but smiled softly.

"You're something.. Hoshin..."

Kazuto stumbled into the washroom like a zombie, splashing cold water on his face.

"Okay… washing face done. Brushing teeth done. And finally changing."

He shuffled back to the room, grabbed his academy uniform, and began unbuttoning his shirt.

That's when he noticed Hanamori staring at him from the corner of her eye—her face slowly turning bright red.

"…W-What are you doing?!" she asked shyly.

She squeaked, quickly turning around and covering her face with both hands.

Kazuto froze mid-change, shirt half off.

"Wait, WHAT?! We're roommates, aren't we? This is normal!"

"N-Normal?! You're changing in front of a girl!"

"…Ah."

I literally forgot about it...

"Of course. Changing clothes scene. Hghh..this author and god must be playing my life dude."

He quickly scrambled toward the bathroom.

"O-Okay, okay, I get it! I'll change in here!"

He slammed the door shut behind him.

Inside the bathroom, he sighed while changing.

"God… I thought I could forgive you.. but is this really necessary for my character development?"

After they both changed, they walked to the canteen together. The smell of fresh bread, soup, and fried eggs filled the air. Students chatted around long wooden tables.

Kazuto grabbed a pile of bread rolls and eggs, while Hanamori chose something lighter—a salad and tea.

They sat together near a window.

"It's pretty lively here."

Kazuto said, biting his bread.

"Mm. The food's better than I expected."

Hanamori sipped her tea, smiling.

Kazuto leaned back, smirking.

"Breakfast with a cute girl… yep, my isekai life isn't so bad after all."

"I was lucky to have a life like this. God, just don't change the storylines yet."

Hanamori blinked.

"…What's wrong?"

"N-Nothing! Just praising the bread."

Yep. The best days are starting from today.

Class that morning was focused on magical theory. Instructor Darius explained formulas on the board while the students scribbled notes.

Kazuto, of course, was writing furiously, trying to catch every word.

"Okay… so this is a magic circle of the fire magic?!"

"If I make it successfully will I be able to cast magic?"

"Hmm.. but still I don't have mana, so I can't use it..."

Hanamori giggled quietly beside him.

"You're really working hard."

Kazuto whispered back.

"Well, I don't have mana, remember? So I'll at least understand how others do it. Knowledge is power!"

She smiled gently.

"I like that attitude."

Kazuto's heart skipped for a moment. He quickly coughed and turned his face to his notes.

When the break came, Kazuto stretched his arms.

"Phew! My brain is on fire. I'm gonna check out the rest of the school."

Hanamori looked up from her book.

"Where are you going?"

"Just… walking around the academy."

"Y'know, main character investigating his new school setting. That is normal right?"

Then an idea popped into his head."Wait, I got an idea! This is my chance!"

"Hey, Hanamori… wanna come with me?"

Her eyes widened slightly, then softened.

"Sure." she replied.

So the two walked together, wandering the halls. They passed the library filled with glowing tomes, the alchemy lab that smelled of herbs, and even the sparring arena echoing with battle shouts.

When they finally returned to class, Hanamori smiled warmly. Ohh sweet! I hung out in school with a cute girl and she's also my roommate.

"That was fun. This academy is really amazing." Hanamori said.

Kazuto turned to reply, but froze. Her gentle smile, glowing softly in the sunlight, made his face heat up.

"…Uhh… y-yeah. Amazing." Kazuto replied.

He quickly looked away, his cheeks red.

"Damn it, why does she look so cute when she smiles?! Wait..wait..wait.. Calm down! Kazuto.. Calm down!"

After class, Kazuto sneaked to the training grounds. He stood before a practice dummy, raising his hand.

"Okay… today's the day. According to the book, I have to think about the fireball."

"Fireball!"

Nothing happened.

"Maybe, I have to think about the formula too."

"Umm.. water is made from hydrogen and oxygen and the final result was H2O."

"Waterball!"

Still nothing.

"Please… just a spark of flame… or just a magic circle... "

The dummy stood there, unharmed.

Kazuto collapsed to his knees.

"…I'm the only isekai MC who can't even fight on his own."

Dragging his feet back to the dorm, he muttered,

"Author, you better fix this plot soon…"

After school was over, back at their room, Kazuto yawned, grabbing a towel.

"Alright, hot bath, here I come. I'm tired even without doing anything..."

He pushed the bathroom door open—

—and froze.

Inside, steam filled the air. Hanamori stood there in nothing but a towel, her damp hair clinging to her shoulders.

Their eyes met.

Time stopped.

"…."

"…."

Kazuto's mind was a complete mess now. He couldn't think what to do and say in this situation. Beside, he had never been in this kind of situation.

Hanamori's face turned red.

"W-WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

Kazuto panicked.

"I SWEAR I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING! Wait, no, I saw everything, but I didn't mean to—!"

SLAP!

His head snapped to the side, red handprint glowing on his cheek.

Kazuto stumbled back, dazed.

"…Well, it was normal in isekai anime huh..."

In the divine realm, the god spat out his tea laughing.

"Pfft—HAHAHA! He got slapped! Oh man!"

Another god walked by, raising an eyebrow.

"You're enjoying his suffering again?" another god said.

"What? I may have forgotten to give him mana, but at least I gave him rom-com! Balance, my friend, balance!" the god replied.

"Being young is good dude!" the god added.

Later that day, Hanamori knocked on Kazuto's door softly.

"Hoshin… can I come in?"

He sat on his bed, revising what he learned today from his notebook.

"Sure, why not."

She stepped in, her face still pink.

"I… I'm sorry for slapping you. I overreacted."

Kazuto waved it off.

"No, no, don't apologize. That was totally my fault. I barged in like an idiot. Besides…"

He grinned sheepishly.

"…at least now I know your slap has more damage than any spell I've seen today."

Hanamori covered her mouth, giggling.

"You're ridiculous."

Kazuto shrugged.

"Hey, I'm just joking. But… thanks for apologizing. Really."

Their eyes met, both a little shy, both a little embarrassed.

Then Hanamori smiled softly and replied.

"Let's just… forget it ever happened."

Kazuto sighed in relief.

"Deal. Though, God up there is probably laughing his butt off."

He looked up at the ceiling.

"HEY GOD! Stop turning my life into a rom-com—umm.. but it wasn't bad at all.."

Silence.

Hanamori tilted her head.

"You talk to the ceiling a lot." she said.

"Yeah… bad habit." he replied.

Both settled into their beds. The view through the window was truly beautiful. The clouds were almost clear. The stars filled

the sky. Among those stars, the moon was shining like the main character of the night.

Kazuto, lying on the bed and staring at them.

"The moon was the main character of the night huh.."

"Then I must be the star of this world..."

He turned on his side, glancing at Arisa's beautiful face with cute a smile while sleeping in the moonlight.

"…But at least… I'm not alone. Not like you guys."

Smiling faintly, he finally drifted to sleep.
