Dydra stared at him for a moment, clearly caught off guard by his answer. She had expected him to demand an explanation or perhaps insist that she be more careful in the future, but instead, he had left the matter entirely in her hands.
"Surprise you?" she repeated, her brows drawing together.
Leonard nodded, a faint smile still playing on his lips. "You heard me."
She lowered her gaze, thinking carefully. An apology from the heart. That couldn't possibly be difficult, could it?
"I suppose I could make you something," she finally said.
"Something?"
"Yes." She glanced back at him. "Perhaps a meal."
Leonard let out a quiet laugh. "A meal?"
"I am a maid, my lord. What else would you expect from me?"
"Something you have not done before."
Dydra's lips set into a thin line. Something she have not done before? Something like what, exactly?
"Then perhaps I shall make you nothing," she said with a sigh. She could not come up with anything.
"That hardly sounds like an apology."
