The Avengers fought with all their might to stop Thanos, but it was futile. With the Reality Stone, their attacks passed right through him.
All of them were easily knocked down. At this point, Captain Rogers, one of the Avengers' two spiritual leaders, rose to his feet again.
Compared to the others, Captain Rogers lacked wealth and wasn't at his peak combat strength. Yet he remained the Avengers' spiritual leader, his unwavering will the undeniable source of his influence.
He launched another attack, but his efforts were utterly meaningless against Thanos.
Faced with this nearly invincible foe, despair gripped everyone, both within the narrative and among the audience.
They all felt the tragic grandeur of the scene, the sheer brutality of the situation.
Those who had gone to Titan could still pose a limited threat to Thanos, engaging in back-and-forth combat. But the group left on Earth stood no chance.
The gap in power between the two sides had grown so vast that resistance was futile. Their only hope now lay in destroying the Mind Stone.
Soon, even Captain Rogers' struggles proved useless; he was knocked unconscious with a single punch.
Though he had given his all, and though Lin Feng's diary had repeatedly teased him as "Steve '50/50' Rogers," this time his 50/50 couldn't save him.
The power disparity was simply too great. Thanos was a Celestial-tier master, while Captain Rogers remained a mere mortal, his body fragile and frail.
Whether Captain Rogers now resented his powerlessness remained unknown, but his utter helplessness against Thanos was plain for all to see. He couldn't even manage to delay the Mad Titan's advance.
The only one still capable of movement was Wanda, weeping uncontrollably. She was torn between destroying the Mind Stone and blocking Thanos's advance.
What made everyone's eyes light up was that, so far, Wanda was the only one who had shown any ability to slow Thanos's progress.
At that moment, a comment from Lin Feng floated across the screen:
**- Sister Ao's mental breakdown, the beginning of her dark turn and multiversal rampage. Why the hell did you have to kill her man in the first place? If you hadn't, she wouldn't have snapped! Did you really think she and Vision had two sons? She even rampaged through the multiverse for them, beating Doctor Strange like a dog!**
**- I wonder if Sister Ao's mental state is okay now?**
**- How can a human and a robot have kids?!**
**- Though, you never know. In many parallel universes, Sister Ao *does* have two sons. Some versions even say she snatched soul fragments from Hell Lord Mephisto and combined them with her own magic to conceive them. Congrats to Vision for becoming a dad!**
**- But Mephisto is not one to let things slide. That guy's Ghost Riders are a nightmare. If Sister Ao provoked him, she might really end up driven mad like a lunatic!**
The comment left everyone stunned.
The points raised were so obscure, but for the S.H.I.E.L.D. team, the most concerning aspect was Hell Lord Mephisto.
After learning about the concept of Dimensional Demon Gods, they began to suspect that many of the demon gods mentioned in myths might actually exist.
After all, Thor, the God of Thunder, exists, as do the various gods of the Greek pantheon and the Celestial Court of the Eastern pantheon. So, the appearance of the demon gods of Hell shouldn't be too surprising, right?
"Ghost Rider..." Nick Fury frowned, the name familiar.
But wasn't that just a legend?
Long ago, in the American West, there were rumors of a cowboy on a flaming skeleton horse who called himself Ghost Rider. But Fury had never taken it seriously, as he could never find any trace of the man.
Still, he had a vague awareness of such urban legends, which were common in America, so he hadn't paid much attention to it.
Even if he knew such a person might exist, it wouldn't matter. The man was too low-key, leaving no trail to follow.
Now the truth was revealed: the man behind Ghost Rider was none other than Mephisto, the Hell Lord.
This meant another Demon God was eyeing Earth, and Fury knew this would give him a massive headache.
For someone with severe paranoid schizophrenia, even the slightest possibility of danger required absolute preparation.
"Wanda, I'm just saying, robots and humans can't have children, understand? No matter how realistic he is, he can't have children. He's a machine, he doesn't even have DNA."
At that moment, in Hydra's castle in Sokovia, Quicksilver Pietro was earnestly trying to reason with his sister.
"Duh, of course I know that. I'm not an idiot," Wanda rolled her eyes at her brother, unable to resist retorting.
She could sense her brother's genuine concern for her, but the problem was, she wasn't the same Wanda from the Sacred Timeline.
The Sacred Timeline's Wanda had lost her parents, her brother, and her lover, before gradually descending into mental breakdown. She had even fantasized about having two sons and used Chaos Magic to impregnate herself, obtaining soul fragments from Mephisto.
But that wasn't her.
Although she had lost her parents, her brother was still alive and well.
Besides, she hadn't fallen in love with him yet, and she doubted she ever would.
Even though he was incredibly realistic, she now had a defensive mindset. No matter how human-like he seemed, or how convincingly he mimicked human emotions, the mere thought of him feeding her human flesh made her nauseous.
Even if it was in another timeline.
In Wanda's simple worldview, it would be better to just kill her outright than to endure such a fate.
She had no such thoughts now, and she certainly wouldn't drive herself mad over a robot. She wasn't stupid—only a fool would do that.
Still, she was curious about her actions on the Sacred Timeline, which Lin Feng had described as "going dark," "slaughtering across the Multiverse," and "hunting Doctor Strange."
*Was I really that powerful?*
With her current values, the idea of "going dark" wasn't unacceptable. All she wanted now was to protect herself and her brother.
"Good that you understand," Quicksilver Pietro said. "Stay away from that robot, or Mephisto will really come after you!"
Although he had never met Mephisto, the Demon God was far too well-known in Western culture.
As one of the Seven Great Demon Gods of Hell, controlling countless demons under his command, he was among the most notorious of them all.
How could he not worry about his younger brother?
Quicksilver Pietro was also filled with self-reproach. If he hadn't died so hastily, that robot would never have had an opportunity to exploit the situation, ultimately driving his sister mad, corrupting her, and turning her into a dark force.
This was all his fault as an older brother.
Though he wasn't much older himself.
Before anyone could dwell on this, the scene showed Wanda, consumed by grief and rage, unleashing all the Chaos Energy within her. The Mind Stone was finally shattered.
This proved one thing: while the Infinity Stones were incredibly difficult to destroy, they were not indestructible.
Watching Wanda's pained expression, Vision felt immense guilt. He was about to die, but leaving Wanda to bear the true weight of that suffering—his own pain would be fleeting.
In the end, Vision could only manage to say: "It's alright. I love you!"
Vision had only time to utter this one sentence before the Mind Stone shattered, unleashing a terrifying wave of energy in a catastrophic explosion.
Thanos, witnessing this, showed a flicker of surprise. He knew these beings would sacrifice their lives to stop him, but it was futile.
*My suffering surpasses yours!*
In willpower, he was stronger.
In ruthlessness, he was stronger.
In pain, he still surpassed these Earthlings.
They could never comprehend how deeply he loved this universe, how desperately he wanted to protect it.
As the group watched the scene unfold, they wondered: *Is it over?*
*What about Thor's axe strike? Where did it go?*
No, it wasn't over.
Thanos approached Wanda step by step, showing no intention of killing her. Such an act would be meaningless. His slaughter was for the greater good, for the development of a better, more harmonious universe.
He wasn't inherently cruel.
Thanos was more like a cold, calculating political creature, willing to use any means necessary to achieve his goals.
But Thanos was not a man who enjoyed killing. Though he practiced it, he believed it was all for the harmony of the universe. He was a man of absolute purity, dedicating his entire life to achieving cosmic balance and equilibrium.
All who stood in his way would be eliminated.
Yet, if elimination wasn't necessary, he would often display astonishing patience and compassion—a peculiar paradox.
Still, Thanos remained logically consistent.
He approached Wanda and said calmly, "I understand you, child—better than anyone!"
He truly understood her. Wanda, for the sake of the universe's safety, could even kill her lover. Such resolve and willpower were deeply moving.
But similarly, for the universe's balance, he could kill his beloved daughter.
This was also a great love.
Both loved the universe more than their personal affections. That's why he claimed to understand Wanda.
In this world, perhaps no one understood better than he did the sacrifices Wanda and Vision made for the sake of the world and its people.
