But now, the planet seemed to be in an eternal, deathly silence, as if no one had set foot on it for a trillion years.
"Let's hope these Dwarves are better at forging than they are at cleaning!" Rocket Raccoon grumbled, his voice crackling through the comms. "They probably retreated from that cosmic junkyard in the middle of the universe!"
The trio disembarked from the spaceship and cautiously approached the area, a strange feeling settling over them.
"But for centuries, the forges here have never gone out!" Thor declared, his expression grave. He sensed something was amiss.
He had already realized that things weren't right. This place shouldn't be like this, yet here it was.
"Didn't you mention Thanos had some kind of glove?" Rocket Raccoon suddenly asked.
"Yes, why?" Thor replied.
Rocket Raccoon pointed to a massive glove in the distance. "Is that the same one?"
At that moment, everyone saw it: a colossal, silver-white glove in the distance. Though it appeared uncolored, there was no doubt it was an exact replica of Thanos's Infinity Gauntlet.
"I am Groot!"
The Little Tree Man, who had been engrossed in his game and oblivious to his surroundings, turned around and looked at Thor.
"Go back to the ship!"
Thor realized something was wrong and quickly said, "Wait—"
But before he could finish, a massive figure lunged from the side, sending him flying. The figure then kicked Rocket Raccoon and the Little Tree Man aside.
In the nick of time, Thor shouted, "Eitri! Wait! Stop! Stop!"
Only then did King Eitri halt, his face contorted with grief as he stared at Thor. "Thor?"
It seemed he was confirming that this was no enemy, but his long-lost friend, Thor.
Thor, utterly bewildered, asked, "What's going on here?"
"You were supposed to protect us! Asgard was supposed to protect us!" King Eitri roared.
The Dwarves and the Aesir of Asgard had an ancient pact: the Dwarves provided Asgard with weapons, and Asgard offered them protection.
The Dwarves, being a peace-loving people who preferred crafting to combat, found it difficult to defend themselves. That's why they had become vassals of Asgard.
"But Asgard has been destroyed!" Thor said helplessly.
He would have liked to uphold this ancient alliance, but with Asgard gone, who was left to protect? He couldn't even protect himself.
"I'm just saying, do you Asgardians have a skewed sense of height? You call this three-meter-tall guy a Dwarf?" Tony Stark's venomous wit kicked in instinctively.
He stared at the disheveled, hulking figure on the screen, who stood at least three meters tall. The fact that he was called a Dwarf struck Tony as absurd.
"This..." Thor didn't know how to respond. He'd always known them by that name.
He was heartbroken. Eitri was his dear friend, and he had many good acquaintances among the Dwarves. Seeing them all dead, with only the Dwarf King remaining, was devastating.
"Eitri, that gauntlet... what have you done?"
At that moment, everyone understood where Thanos's Infinity Gauntlet might have come from.
The Infinity Stones alone couldn't coordinate their power; the gauntlet was needed to channel their combined might.
There was once one such artifact in Asgard, clearly forged by the Dwarves.
"So, there were over three hundred Dwarves living on this Star Ring! I thought if I did as he said, everyone would be spared! I forged what he demanded—a glove that could control the power of the Infinity Stones. Yet he still slaughtered them all, leaving me as the sole survivor!" the Dwarf King said, his voice filled with anguish. "He claimed my life was my own, but my hands would belong to him alone!"
As he spoke, he raised his hands, which had been completely transformed into iron.
Clearly, Thanos hadn't broken his word by stripping him of his hands; he had merely taken them as payment.
Meanwhile, the onlookers outside the scene felt a sense of unease. The Dwarves were a common fixture in Earth's myths, but who would have imagined that the once-renowned Dwarves of the Aesir pantheon numbered only a few hundred?
This completely defied their expectations.
"Eitri, your hands aren't what matter!" Thor declared. "Every weapon you've forged—the axes, hammers, blades—all reside within your memory. I know hope seems slim, and I understand why, but we must cooperate. Together, we can defeat Thanos!"
Now, both were pathetic failures, two kings who had lost their kingdoms.
Their people had been slaughtered, leaving them as the sole survivors. Who could be more laughable than these two kings?
But even their absurdity couldn't stop them. They had no time for self-pity.
Before anyone could dwell on the absurdity, Rocket Raccoon had already flown the ship in a circle around Nidavellir.
"This is wishful thinking!" Rocket Raccoon grumbled. "Those rings are massive! You'd need something bigger to get them spinning!"
"Leave it to me!" Thor declared confidently.
"Leave it to *you*?" Rocket Raccoon thought Thor was completely insane. "Dude, this is space! You're just gonna use a rope?!"
No sooner had he spoken than the entire ship was violently shaken by Thor.
After spinning for an unknown number of times, just as Rocket Raccoon was about to vomit, Thor roared, "Engage the engines!"
Immediately, Rocket Raccoon fired the engines, dragging Thor along.
Reaching the surface of the Star Ring, Thor stood firm.
"Give it everything you've got, little rabbit!" Thor roared.
Under the ship's acceleration, the entire Star Ring began to slowly rotate, and the flames of the neutron star forge reignited.
From a distance, King Eitri shouted, "Well done, lad!"
"Now this is Nidavellir!" Thor landed on the ship and pointed at the distant neutron star forge. This was the Nidavellir he remembered.
Just as everyone thought they were about to succeed, King Eitri informed them that the machinery had malfunctioned. With the Core Forge shut down, there wasn't enough heat.
"How long will it take to reheat?" Thor asked.
"A few minutes, maybe longer. What's wrong?" Eitri replied.
Thor stood up. "I'll open it myself!"
"You're walking into your death!" Eitri stared at Thor.
Thor shrugged indifferently. "But if I don't get that axe to face Thanos, I'll be walking into my death anyway! Father of the Gods, grant me strength!"
Without vengeance, his life would be meaningless.
"Don't you understand, lad?" Eitri pleaded. "The power of the entire planet will be unleashed upon you! You'll die!"
"Then wait until I'm dead!" Thor declared without hesitation. His hope for vengeance rested entirely on this moment; he would either succeed or die here.
This was a battle to determine both supremacy and survival.
"Indeed! When life itself is at stake, what else is there to say?" King Eitri added.
Without further ado, Thor struck. He activated the Core Forge, and a terrifying wave of energy erupted, nearly instantly engulfing him.
Thor's divine power surged forth in a desperate attempt to resist.
Everyone could feel the sheer horror of this boundless energy, yet Thor stood firm against it. His determination for vengeance was evident to all.
He was using his own body to withstand the force of a neutron star's eruption.
At this moment, Thor's divine strength truly shone.
Though many often mocked the gods for being only slightly stronger than mortals, the gap was now undeniable. Any ordinary person would have been reduced to ashes in an instant.
Yet Thor, protected by his divine power, had endured this long. It was terrifying.
His will to avenge was as unyielding as steel.
In the shortest possible time, he had completely transformed from a boy into a man.
In that same fleeting period, he had lost his father, brother, sister, Asgard, and his people. All of this had happened in less than a month.
He was forced to grow up.
With Thor's sacrifice, Stormbreaker was finally forged. But this came at a terrible cost: Thor was nearly dead, and only the completed Stormbreaker could save him.
At the critical moment, the Little Tree Man Groot sacrificed himself. He grew branches from his own body to bind the two halves of the axe together, then severed an arm to form the handle.
Only then was Stormbreaker finally completed.
The moment it was forged, Stormbreaker flashed with lightning and flew into Thor's hand. The thunderous energy surging from the axe reignited the life force within him.
In an instant, Thor awoke from his coma.
"It's... done?" Thor stared at Stormbreaker in his hand, his eyes blazing with fierce light.
"Thanos!!!"
Thor's furious roar shook the heavens.
