The one who had pierced him was none other than Corvus Glaive, one of Thanos's Black Order.
Corvus Glaive was a master of stealth. Wanda and Vision were undoubtedly powerful superheroes, yet they had been approached this closely without any awareness. This demonstrated the terrifying nature of their attacker.
The spear thrust had directly exposed Vision's true form. As Wanda rushed to his aid, she was sent flying by a figure—Proxima Midnight, another of Thanos's Black Order.
The two advanced, pinning Vision down. Corvus Glaive then aimed his spear at the Mind Stone on Vision's forehead, preparing to pry it out.
Vision let out a series of agonized screams. The Mind Stone had granted him self-awareness and power, and he had long since merged with it. Having it ripped out now was akin to ripping out a normal person's soul.
The pain was unimaginable.
Wanda, standing nearby, finally struck again, sending the two attackers flying and using Chaos Magic to pull Vision out of the fray.
The scene shifted to a narrow alleyway, where Vision struggled and gasped, "That shot... it severed my ability to control myself!"
"How is this possible?" Wanda exclaimed.
"It shouldn't be," Vision panted. "My system is destabilizing! If I'd known this would happen, we should have stayed in the house!"
His soul and self were composed of many parts: the core was Jarvis, but it also included a fragment of Ultron and numerous other elements, all unified by the power of the Mind Stone.
Now that the Mind Stone's power was severed, his system, which had been in a state of controlled chaos, began to collapse.
Before they could dwell on this, Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive caught up, and the battle resumed.
However, Vision and Wanda, clearly not at their best, found themselves at a disadvantage.
As they were about to be completely overwhelmed, Wanda helped Vision to his feet. "Get up, get up! We have to leave, quickly! Come on, we need to go!"
Vision shook his head. He knew that in his current condition, he couldn't possibly escape. Even staying by Wanda's side would only slow her down.
"Please, just go!" Vision said, touching Wanda's face.
"You're the one who made me stay! I'm not leaving now!" Wanda retorted.
"I'm begging you!" Vision pleaded.
At that moment, Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight caught up, closing in on the pair with the intent to kill. The situation had become extremely perilous.
Wanda was forced to rise and meet the attack. Suddenly, a train rushed past, drawing everyone's attention to the rear.
After the train passed, a figure appeared on the other side of the platform.
Proxima Midnight hurled her weapon directly at the newcomer.
The figure dodged effortlessly, then easily disarmed her.
The light brightened, and the crowd saw that it was none other than the long-lost Captain America, Steve Rogers.
However, he looked completely different.
Captain Rogers now sported a full beard and slicked-back hair, wearing a black combat suit instead of his iconic, personalized uniform. He exuded an air of rugged, heroic charm, transforming into a handsome middle-aged man.
"He's actually not wearing the uniform!" Coulson, watching from off-screen, felt a pang of discomfort.
As a devoted fan of Captain America, he was unaccustomed to seeing his idol without the festive, Beacon Nation-themed uniform.
This was also consistent with the public's mental image of Captain Rogers. After all, Steve Rogers' image had been designed around the Beacon Nation's stars and stripes for decades.
Though there had been various changes over the years, the core colors—red, white, and blue—had remained constant.
Under these circumstances, Captain America had always maintained these distinctive colors.
But now, Captain Rogers was no longer wearing his red, white, and blue uniform. It was easy to imagine that he and Tony Stark had completely fallen out, and Lin Feng's diary had also mentioned that he had given up his identity as Captain America. He was no longer Captain America.
"I think Lin Feng's right," Black Widow Natasha teased. "You look way cooler in this outfit!"
Everyone nodded in agreement. The new uniform was indeed much more stylish. Though it lacked the classic red, white, and blue colors, the overall design felt more striking.
The previous uniform's design was largely based on World War II aesthetics, which now felt outdated and awkward after more than seventy years. It had only seemed less embarrassing because Captain America Steve Rogers wore it.
Captain Rogers had to admit that this new suit was indeed superior to his old one. Though his original version had undergone several significant improvements, moving away from the comical clown-like appearance, this pure black combat suit was undeniably more stylish.
He still had a basic sense of style. While he was somewhat satisfied with the red, blue, and white uniform, he primarily saw it as a symbol of the Beacon Nation's spirit and freedom.
But this new look was even cooler.
After stepping down as Captain America, he felt like something had changed, like he had been freed from some kind of restraint.
Of course, he still couldn't accept the future image of a scruffy, bearded man. He much preferred his smooth chin.
At that moment, Captain Rogers' appearance in the scene brought true, final hope to the desperate young couple.
And Captain Rogers hadn't come alone; Black Widow Natasha and Falcon Sam were with him.
The trio immediately demonstrated their formidable combat prowess. Black Widow Natasha landed a devastating blow on Corvus Glaive.
The three displayed an almost unimaginable synergy, clearly having honed their teamwork over the past two years.
They effortlessly defeated two members of Thanos' Black Order.
At that moment, none of them truly grasped the severity of the situation. Black Widow Natasha even said, "We'll let you off this time, but next time, we won't be so lenient!"
If she had known what the future held, she wouldn't have let them go so easily.
Proxima Midnight snarled, "Next time, you won't be so lucky!"
With that, she was teleported away by the donut-shaped ship.
Those watching from beyond the scene felt a sense of regret. The earlier attack on Asgard's ship had shown how powerful Thanos's subordinates were; letting even one of them escape would bring endless trouble.
"Can you stand?" Falcon Sam asked, approaching Vision.
Vision, after a long absence, looked at Captain Rogers and said, "Thank you, Captain!"
"We'll talk on the plane," Captain Rogers said, cutting to the chase.
The group boarded the Quinjet.
"I thought we agreed: stay close, keep in touch, and don't put yourselves in danger!" Black Widow said, closing the cabin door with a mix of concern and reprimand.
"We're sorry, we just wanted to stay a little longer," Wanda apologized.
But she didn't regret it. If she hadn't stayed a little longer, the consequences would have been unimaginable. Vision would have been truly doomed if left alone.
"This means Thanos has a way to locate the Infinity Stones, not just the Space Stone. Our previous estimates were too conservative!" Tony Stark said. "We don't know if he can locate all of them, but he can clearly track the Space Stone and the Mind Stone. Otherwise, how could he have found Vision in the vast crowd?"
"Now our last hope is gone. We thought we might be able to hide it, and then he wouldn't be able to find it!" Bruce Banner said with a sigh. "We have absolutely no room for luck left. Thanos has been watching us all along. Just as we suspected, he was probably wary of Odin or the Ancient One. The moment they were gone, he launched his attack!"
Especially now that they had the Cosmic Cube in their possession, even if Thanos wouldn't risk coming himself due to his fear of the Ancient One and Odin, he would likely send others.
For example, if someone like Corvus Glaive or Ebony Maw were to launch a surprise attack, they could truly catch the Avengers off guard. In a real fight, their combat strength might not even be a match for Thanos's forces.
"So, in the end, we still need to strengthen our own capabilities. We can't just hope for the best!" Tony Stark said.
This perfectly aligned with Tony Stark's personality.
"I've been studying the Space Stone, the Cosmic Cube, and I've found it emits strong Gamma Ray waves. Lin Feng once said that in our Marvel Multiverse, even the most absurd things can be explained scientifically. From a scientific perspective, the current theory is that the smallest unit of everything in the universe is some kind of string, and these strings vibrate to create all the fundamental particles. So, could it be that the other Infinity Stones also emit some kind of unknown radiation that can be detected? At least Thanos has a way to do it!" Bruce Banner said. "Is that how Thanos was able to so easily find all the Infinity Stones?"
"Banner, are you suggesting we try to build a device that can block the signals from the Infinity Stones?"
Tony Stark seemed suddenly enlightened, a completely new line of thought opening up.
