By the autumn of 2011, a year had passed, and the world had undergone drastic changes.
Given Asgard's unique circumstances, Earth's governments agreed to allow them to establish a base in Antarctica. However, they forbade any public announcement.
In essence, Asgard's existence would become an open secret among the global elite. While rumors might circulate online, no government would officially acknowledge them.
It was similar to how werewolves, vampires, Skrulls, Inhumans, and other such beings lived among humans. Some people might be aware of their existence, but the public would never be allowed to know.
Even though Thor had tens of millions of fans on Earth, with dedicated fan sites and massive fan groups, Asgard's existence remained a taboo for all nations.
After all, the Asgardians weren't numerous—whether they numbered in the hundreds of thousands or even a million was debatable. It was easy enough to allocate a section of Antarctica for them to develop and designate it a restricted zone.
All Asgardians leaving Antarctica were required to carry special passports to enter any country.
Earth was willing to accept Asgard, but only through a process of gradual integration of the minority race, not through equal diplomatic relations.
On Earth, the past two years had been relatively quiet, not yet the stage of intense global crises.
Those aware of the impending dangers began desperately seeking ways to enhance their own strength.
Beneath the Lin's Technology base, a massive underground superfactory and fortress had been completely transformed.
After three years of development, Lin's Technology had grown into a colossal entity. In this capitalist world, money granted absolute power.
If anyone dared to challenge Lin Feng's unchecked authority, he would send them to "explain themselves to God."
Within the factory, robots were produced in an endless stream. The complex was so airtight that even S.H.I.E.L.D. agents couldn't infiltrate it.
The most critical secrets at the core were controlled by Red Queen, a fully autonomous AI. Since no human personnel were involved at this level, infiltration became impossible.
In his past life, artificial intelligence hadn't even been fully developed in the 1920s, but here, Lin Feng had already perfected it.
"Boss, Senator Lauren from the Senate has just rallied 153 senators to push a bill to acquire Lin's Heavy Industries, Lin's Medical, and other subsidiaries of Lin's Technology, citing security concerns," the golden-haired, blue-eyed beauty reported as she walked behind Lin Feng while he inspected the factory.
Yet her face lacked genuine vitality, appearing somewhat artificial.
This was actually a robotic body that Lin Feng had created for Red Queen using existing technology, allowing her to work for him.
However, current technology couldn't yet make her completely lifelike, and certain unnatural movements would occasionally betray her artificial nature.
But as robotic research rapidly advanced, these flaws would eventually be resolved.
After acquiring Red Queen, Lin Feng finally understood why Tony Stark's research pace was so extraordinary. Beyond his own super-intelligent brain, the most crucial factor was the assistance of Jarvis.
What complex calculations? With a single command, Jarvis could provide precise answers, saving countless hours. As long as Jarvis's computational power remained sufficient, the boost to scientific research would be exponential.
Now, Lin Feng was reaping the benefits of this.
It was impossible to build Lin's Technology into a behemoth in just over three years.
This was partly due to the many scientists he had recruited. Moreover, Red Queen's presence had greatly accelerated the commercialization of Lin's Technology's scientific breakthroughs over the past two years.
In just two years, many of Lin's Technology's subsidiary companies went public, their market values soaring. In the United States, the company had become a colossal entity second only to Stark Industries Group.
Lin Feng had already succeeded in single-handedly forming a massive industrial conglomerate, transcending the status of an ordinary billionaire.
His factories now had branches in most US states. Although the quality of American workers had begun to decline, making them less reliable, the presence of artificial intelligence largely mitigated these issues.
Of course, this also led to protests from local unions, who complained about the minimal number of human employees.
When most of these workers were so drunk and gay that they'd overdosed on estrogen injections and couldn't even lift a hammer, Lin Feng couldn't bring himself to trust them.
Naturally, he faced all sorts of pressure, but Lin Feng had never been one to back down. If you don't want this big client here, plenty of others will.
As Lin Feng's factory expanded and spread, he knew that for every industry you looked down on, someone else would be eager to seize the opportunity.
"Damn it, national security again," Lin Feng muttered, the excuse sounding eerily similar to how the Americans had justified their actions against Cuba in his previous life.
But Cuba was an external enterprise, while he was a third-generation immigrant, a paragon of virtue who had come to the beacon of freedom and democracy. How could he possibly pose a national threat?
When he'd been such a model citizen, what more could they possibly want?
Someone must be pulling the strings, trying to sabotage the relationship between him, a model citizen, and the authorities.
"Who is this Mackenzie? Did we ever bribe him?" Lin Feng asked.
"We donated a million dollars to his campaign fund when he ran for Congress last year," Red Queen replied.
"We only gave him money last year, and now he's turning his back on us? Who's behind this?" Lin Feng demanded.
"Based on the banking records we've accessed, several entities are involved: Hammer Industries, Pym Technologies, the Chicago Consortium, and others," Red Queen replied. "According to the information available, Congressman Mackenzie's father, Old McCarthy, had been in long-term dealings with Hammer Industries for decades!"
"So this is what the old guard is like? Their connections are terrifying!" Lin Feng said, though his face showed no fear.
He wasn't afraid of throwing money around, but these established powers had been operating locally for decades, even centuries, with deep ties in both government and business. Dealing with them would be a nightmare.
How could they tolerate this massive prize, Lin's Technology, falling into the hands of someone like Lin Feng—an upstart, and worse, a Chinese man who had shattered the "Chinese ceiling"?
They might not be able to defeat him in fair competition, but that was fine. Time to up the stakes.
"Looks like they chose the hard way instead of the easy one," Lin Feng sneered. "I just wanted to live quietly, but you forced my hand. If you keep pushing me, you'll regret it. You'll see what happens when I stop holding back."
"Arrange the biggest cement truck you can find," he continued. "I'm going to crush him publicly. I want his entire family to end up with dozens of bullet holes in their backs, dead in their own homes!"
Yes, compared to the established powers controlling political and business circles, Lin Feng was at a disadvantage. But he had one overwhelming advantage: absolute life-and-death power. Since he was already flipping the table, he might as well stop playing by the rules.
Lin Feng decided to make an example of someone—a "kill the chicken to warn the monkeys" approach. The murder had to be conspicuous, the death unnatural, the circumstances suspicious.
It was like the infamous "Clinton List" that Bill and Hillary Clinton were criticized for. Was it really impossible to keep such things quiet?
No, the point was to make it widely known, to show everyone the consequences of speaking out of turn.
"Understood, Boss!" Red Queen replied.
After issuing the command, Lin Feng washed his hands of it, letting Red Queen handle the details. After all, she had endless methods and resources at her disposal. If we don't consider nuclear weapons, the military force at his command was already enough to challenge the U.S. government.
If he included himself, even nuclear weapons would be useless.
So he didn't care about that. His only concern was the plot of next year's *The Avengers*—the Chitauri invasion.
Precisely because he had a general idea of the scope, Lin Feng moved Lin's Technology far from the heart of New York City. After all, New York State was vast enough to accommodate it somewhere.
Still, he remained wary of the future.
Lin Feng checked the energy bar in his mind. Writing one more day's diary entry would be enough for another lottery draw.
With this thought, he activated a Dimensional Teleportation Array and returned to his study in his mansion, opening the Diary.
Anxiety, or just the usual anxiety. The Battle of New York is less than a year away, and Thanos is about to officially extend his wicked grasp. Yet the path ahead remains unclear!
Thanos's existence is both detrimental and beneficial to Earth. Without his snap, this planet would have exploded long ago!
A new Celestial member is about to be born from within Earth itself.
Damn it! Why is this tiny, broken planet crawling with so many monsters and demons? What kind of crap is just dying to cause trouble here?!
Though he desperately wanted to kill the members of the Celestial Group, without their efforts to cultivate new races, Earth might never have even given birth to life.
*Why is this damn setup so similar to Azeroth?*
On Azeroth, the Alliance and Horde fight desperately against Old Gods and the Burning Legion for their own survival. Yet in the end, once Azeroth is born, the entire planet will be destroyed—and everyone will die anyway.
*So what's the point of all this fighting?*
Lin Feng was still wrestling with whether to stop Thanos from obtaining the Infinity Stones early. Given his current rate of growth, he could actually do it in the future. If necessary, he'd just recruit more allies. Even if Earth lost two of its leaders, it wouldn't be left entirely defenseless.
Captain Marvel might be plain-looking, but her combat potential was there—she just hadn't lived up to it yet.
Wanda, who nearly killed Thanos, also had immense potential.
And in the future, Doctor Strange, Thor, and others would all have the potential to reach the Father-level.
