*Huh?*
Wolverine felt a surge of surprise. His first thought was that Charles had sensed his mind.
But didn't Charles tell him fifty years ago that he had lost his powers?
"Your abilities have returned?"
A smile spread across Wolverine's face. "That's wonderful! Things just got a lot easier."
This meant Wolverine wouldn't have to struggle to counsel the "problematic youth."
Heaven knows that wasn't Wolverine's strong suit. With his short temper, he was utterly incapable of such a task.
"You really are Wolverine?"
As soon as Wolverine spoke, Charles couldn't help but react.
He had lost his telepathic abilities and was now a completely ordinary man.
Other than him and Hank, no one else knew about this.
Charles was certain that Hank wouldn't casually reveal such a matter to anyone, especially to a complete stranger he'd even fought with.
It made no sense.
The only explanation was that this Wolverine truly was from fifty years in the future, just as the mysterious diary had claimed.
"Of course, Professor. Why are you looking at me like that?"
Wolverine found Charles's intense gaze a bit odd but didn't dwell on it, walking straight to his side.
He glanced at Charles's hand and said, "Alright, what are you waiting for?"
His meaning was crystal clear: he wanted Charles to access his memories.
But Charles didn't comply. He calmly replied, "I don't casually do that sort of thing. You should tell me first."
"This is really unnecessary," Wolverine said, shaking his head slightly.
Then he reconsidered. After all, a stranger had suddenly appeared and immediately demanded to scan his memories.
The request was indeed quite bizarre.
Even if Charles could read his thoughts and knew his identity, it was still rather abrupt.
But that wasn't a major concern. As long as Charles was convinced of his words, that was all that mattered.
"Alright, if you want to put it that way..."
Wolverine shrugged slightly, getting straight to the point. "I'm from fifty years in the future. I'm here to save your world—no, to save our world, which is also your world."
"It's a bit convoluted, but I think you'll understand."
*Fifty years in the future!*
Just as the mysterious diary had said.
Charles's heart skipped a beat, but he kept his composure, calmly pressing further. "Why are you here? And what do you mean by 'saving the world'?"
"Sentinel Robots. They're military-developed machines specifically designed to hunt down Mutants."
"At first, they just targeted Mutants. But later, they started hunting down ordinary people with the X-Gene too."
"Many Mutants were slaughtered. Our numbers dwindled, and even humans began helping us."
"But in the end, we failed. We were nearly wiped out."
Meeting Charles and Hank's gazes, Wolverine slowly began recounting the events, giving them a general overview of what had transpired.
He noticed Hank, who was standing not far away, couldn't help but chuckle aloud, looking at him with the expression one might reserve for a mentally challenged child.
Wolverine couldn't help but roll his eyes.
He knew people would think he was crazy. After all, what he was describing was utterly insane.
In the original movies, Charles had reacted the same way, even mocking Wolverine mercilessly.
But now...
Charles was deep in thought.
The man's account matched the prophecy in the mysterious diary perfectly, without a single discrepancy.
This left only two possibilities:
First, this man—this person Charles was currently identifying as Wolverine—was the one who had shown him the mysterious diary. If that were the case, he would naturally know everything the diary revealed.
Second, the diary was telling the truth: the mysterious Mutant who had contacted him truly possessed the ability to foresee the future!
Normally, this would be easy to verify. Charles could simply read Wolverine's memories.
But now, unfortunately, Charles no longer possessed that ability.
He fell into deep thought, and after a moment, he posed a question to Wolverine.
"How can you prove your identity?"
"How can you convince me you're truly from fifty years in the future?"
Charles fixed Wolverine with a steady gaze, his voice low and serious.
"Come on, Charles, just read my memories. Why make things so complicated?" Wolverine spread his hands in exasperation.
"Answer my questions," Charles insisted, ignoring Wolverine's outburst.
"I kind of miss my old Professor," Wolverine grumbled, rubbing his temples. *My younger self's Professor was a real pain.*
"Your abilities manifested when you were nine. Your mind was flooded with voices, and you thought you were going crazy."
"It wasn't until you were twelve that you realized they were other people's thoughts."
"..."
Wolverine then began revealing some of Charles's most private secrets.
"Alright, that's enough," Charles cut him off, unwilling to have his past laid bare in front of Hank.
Charles's attitude toward Wolverine had also shifted somewhat.
While he still couldn't definitively determine Wolverine's exact situation, he was certain it must be one of two possibilities.
After further consideration, if this person were the Mutant who had revealed the future to him, there would be no reason to deny his identity.
Therefore, after analyzing the situation, Charles concluded that the second possibility was more likely.
The visitor truly was from fifty years in the future.
"Are you going to tell me next that my future self and Erik sent you here?" Charles asked. "That Raven's assassination attempt on Trask leaked her DNA, triggering the Sentinel Robot crisis?"
"Wait a minute," Wolverine interrupted, his voice filled with astonishment. "You can read my memories just by sitting there? Without using your hands?"
He was utterly surprised. He and Charles had known each other for so long, and he had even joined the X-Men on numerous missions.
Especially after they eliminated that "old friend" in Japan who had tried to steal his powers, Charles and Erik jointly invited him to join the grand cause of fighting the Sentinel Robots.
This marked the beginning of a long-term "collaboration."
Wolverine was still very familiar with Charles. The man's telepathic abilities were indeed formidable, but he couldn't casually read people's memories.
He needed further contact to do that.
But now?
Before Wolverine had even spoken a word, Charles already knew the answer.
He seemed even more powerful than the future Charles he remembered!
This was something Wolverine had never anticipated.
"Exactly. So our top priority is to stop Raven's assassination attempt."
Wolverine nodded gravely in agreement.
"Raven? What about Raven?"
"Charles, what are you talking about?"
Hank couldn't help but interject, his expression grave and utterly bewildered.
Alright, he could barely accept the idea of time travel and Sentinel Robots. After all, Charles's explanation did have some persuasive power.
At least it had convinced Charles.
But what did all this have to do with Raven?
Wolverine then explained the connection between Raven and the Sentinel Robots to Hank.
Charles listened attentively for a while, and it matched exactly what the mysterious diary had revealed. His doubts vanished completely.
There was just one lingering question: Who was the future Zhou Cheng who had revealed this to him?
"Charles, listen, to pull this off, we need more than just you. We need another person."
"Magneto."
After explaining the situation, Wolverine began to discuss the operational plan in more detail.
One sentence was enough to thoroughly shock Charles and Hank.
*What the hell?*
*Magneto?*
*They're going to work with Magneto on this mission?*
*Who exactly is Magneto?*
*He's a radical extremist! He's responsible for countless acts of violence and terrorism, even attempted assassination of Melo!*
*And he's not even locked up in the world's most secure prison?*
*Cooperating with someone like that?*
*Are you kidding me?!*
*After all, this isn't the future. Mutants haven't faced the massive threat of Sentinel Robots yet.*
*Besides that...*
"Let's put this aside for now," Charles said, waving his hand to interrupt Wolverine. "I think there's something else we need to address first."
"What could possibly be more important than this?" Wolverine asked, his voice laced with frustration and confusion.
"You think I've regained my powers, but in reality, I haven't."
"My fifty-years-older self must have told you this, right?"
Charles asked meaningfully.
Wolverine froze.
*That's right.*
Charles had indeed specifically warned him about this, and Wolverine had always found it strange how he could have forgotten such a crucial detail.
*That guy possesses the most powerful brain in the world!*
But if that were the case, how could the Charles before him know about the future?
"Other Mutants have already told me what you're telling me."
Soon, Charles gave Wolverine the answer—one he could never have guessed.
"What do you mean by that?" Wolverine asked, his face full of confusion. "Who told you? Only my body can withstand time travel, and besides, Kitty can only send one person at a time!"
From every angle, he was the only one who could have traveled back from fifty years in the future.
There couldn't have been anyone else.
"Not from your time, but from mine."
"There's a strange Mutant who seems to be able to predict the future."
Charles provided the answer once again.
This time, not only Wolverine but even Hank showed a profound level of astonishment.
A Mutant who can predict the future?
How had they never heard of this before?
"Wait a minute, let me get this straight."
Wolverine was utterly bewildered. "Are you telling me you know who I am and why I'm here, not because you read my mind... but because someone already told you I would travel through time to get here?"
Charles nodded emphatically. "Exactly."
This left Wolverine even more disoriented.
He had always thought he was a time traveler from the future, fully aware of everything in this era.
But it turned out to be completely untrue.
Many of his actions as a future man had already been anticipated, and he had no idea how that was possible.
"Charles, who exactly is this Mutant you're talking about?" Hank couldn't help but ask in a low voice.
"I only know his name is Zhou Cheng. Does anyone recognize that name?"
Charles glanced at Hank and Wolverine, though his primary focus was on questioning Wolverine.
Hank had been by his side since Charles joined the CIA, and Charles knew his friend's social circle far too well.
The person he knew was likely not well-connected.
"Zhou Cheng?"
Even Wolverine, who hailed from the future, wore a deeply thoughtful and puzzled expression.
He racked his brain, digging through every memory, but the name drew a blank.
Charles gave up, having had little hope to begin with. He briefly recounted the events to Hank and Wolverine.
The two listened in stunned silence.
From Charles's description, it seemed this mutant's telepathic abilities were even more powerful than his own!
They had never heard of a mutant like this before.
"Telepathic abilities have a limited range," Charles said, his voice carrying a deliberate weight as he addressed the duo. "So, whoever this guy is, I suspect he's nearby."
As a telepath and seasoned mutant expert, Charles's theory and experience were generally quite reliable.
But what Charles couldn't possibly know was that he was facing anything but an ordinary situation.
Wolverine and Hank immediately understood Charles's meaning.
"Let's go check."
After exchanging a glance, they made this decision instantly.
No matter who this Zhou Cheng truly was, if he was lurking around and had contacted Charles, they had to find him.
If he could truly know the future, it would be a significant advantage for their next moves.
But the result was, as expected, a dead end.
Wolverine and Hank scoured the vast Xavier Mansion and even investigated the surrounding area, yet they couldn't find a single clue.
"Charles, forget about Zhou Cheng for now."
"We're running out of time. We need to find Erik first!"
Wolverine returned and said to Charles with a serious expression.
Given the current circumstances, Zhou Cheng hadn't shown any obvious malice, so they had to set him aside for the time being.
With Charles's powers gone, finding Raven had become even more difficult. They needed to act fast.
