*In my opinion, the Sentinel Robot's greatest strength isn't its durability, but its ability to automatically identify the X-Gene and lock onto Mutants.*
*It can even target ordinary people carrying the X-Gene!*
*That bastard Trask used countless Mutants in his human experiments.*
*After parting ways with Professor X and following Magneto, most of those Mutants ended up on Trask's operating table!*
*Raven's desire to assassinate him is understandable.*
*The crucial question is whether Wolverine has found Professor X to stop Raven.*
"X-Gene!"
Tony's eyebrows arched slightly.
It was confirmed—the origin of Mutants was indeed genetic mutation!
And this X-Gene was undoubtedly the key to their diverse superpowers.
Moreover, the diary made it clear that the X-Gene was recessive, not dominant.
Some individuals carrying the X-Gene would never develop superpowers.
Only those with the dominant gene would manifest superhuman abilities.
"This is truly fascinating."
The Playboy's interest had been genuinely piqued.
He really wanted to know what kind of genes could grant people superpowers.
Could genetic alterations actually allow someone to shoot lasers from their eyes, control the Apocalypse, or manipulate magnetic fields?
This was utterly unheard of!
At first glance, it sounded utterly ridiculous!
Yet it was precisely because of this that the Playboy developed an intense fascination with the X-Gene.
To Tony, this was truly miraculous.
"So this is what Trask was like!"
Charles, standing before another notebook, couldn't help but clench his fists.
He could never accept this.
Someone had been conducting human experiments on Mutants!
Cruel, brutal human experiments!
Even the followers of Magneto mentioned in the diary—Charles knew exactly who they were; he'd battled them himself.
Though they had once been enemies, seeing them reduced to such a fate now filled Charles with righteous fury.
He began to understand Raven's desire to assassinate Trask.
Moreover, his earlier suspicions had been confirmed.
It seemed the leak of Raven's DNA was indeed a consequence of that assassination attempt!
After all, the tone of the diary suggested that if Raven's assassination attempt were thwarted, the future where Sentinel Robots nearly exterminated all Mutants would be averted!
And then there was Wolverine.
The diary mentioned him again, and even said he would come looking for him.
So, would he really come?
To be honest, Wolverine isn't that strong in the X-Men.
His alloy claws, though sharp, don't pose a threat to most.
If it weren't for his incredible healing factor, he'd have been killed countless times by now.
But I have to admit, Wolverine's healing factor is truly insane. He can even survive a nuclear bomb, can you believe it?
It's precisely because of this insane healing factor that Wolverine's entire skeleton was injected with Adamantium, allowing him to survive and gain a pair of indestructible Adamantium claws.
Adamantium! That's a metal harder than Vibranium!
"Wolverine!"
As the diary began describing him, Tony's interest was instantly piqued.
After all, Wolverine was the guy who could even take down a Class Five Mutant like Phoenix!
However, the Playboy soon wore a look of astonishment.
Wolverine wasn't that strong?
His ability was to extend alloy claws from his body?
*Alloy Claws? That's just a melee weapon, fundamentally no different from a dagger.*
With this, Playboy had a rough grasp of Wolverine's fighting style.
*A close-quarters combat master.*
Honestly, Tony thought close-quarters combat heroes had the least potential.
The Avengers had one too—wasn't Captain America just like that?
Except Captain used a shield instead of claws.
How could such a person kill Phoenix?
Even the diary explicitly stated that Wolverine wasn't particularly strong!
So how could he kill a Class Five Mutant?
Playboy soon found the answer: regeneration.
*Is this Wolverine's second ability?*
If so, he'd be much more troublesome.
Even if he wasn't strong, he was damn tough to kill.
*Even if he couldn't win, he could just grind his enemies down to death.*
"Can he withstand a nuclear bomb?"
"That's... truly astonishing regeneration!"
As Tony read further, he couldn't help but gasp.
Even though the diary mentioned Wolverine's healing factor, Tony could never have imagined it would be on such a scale.
*He survived a nuclear bomb?!*
*A nuclear bomb!*
Since its invention, the nuclear bomb had remained humanity's ultimate weapon for decades. It was also the only weapon they could truly rely on when facing alien civilizations.
As a super-scientist, Tony understood the destructive power of nuclear bombs better than anyone. Few members of the Avengers could withstand such an blast.
Yet Wolverine could.
Not through physical strength, but through his healing factor!
*This healing factor is just too insane!*
"Wait a minute."
But Tony quickly realized something was amiss.
Even if Wolverine's healing factor was incredibly powerful, the diary's tone suggested his physique was no more than ordinary—not like the superhuman physiques of Superman or Thor.
Such a body would be utterly vaporized by a nuclear blast, leaving not even a trace behind.
*The premise of healing is that your body still exists, right?*
*Could Wolverine be healing at the molecular or atomic level?*
This is absurd, right?
This isn't just self-healing anymore—it's immortality!
Could it be because of the Adamantium injected throughout his entire skeletal structure?
After much deliberation, Tony arrived at this sole plausible explanation.
First, let's set aside the question of *why* Wolverine would choose to inject metal into his bones.
To the Playboy, it seemed utterly perverse and incomprehensible.
For any ordinary person, it would have been a death sentence.
But in the end, the reason doesn't matter. Wolverine's healing factor is so overpowered that he's fine.
He's successfully coated his entire skeleton in a layer of gold.
What about the Adamantium?
The diary was explicit: it's a metal harder than Vibranium!
Doesn't that mean Wolverine's bones are even harder than Vibranium?
With such incredibly hard bones, shouldn't they withstand a nuclear explosion?
That must be why Wolverine can complete his healing!
After careful consideration, the Playboy concluded this was a highly probable explanation.
This might also be why Wolverine was able to kill Phoenix.
After all, the opponent's body was simply too monstrous.
Though Phoenix could reduce everything around her to ashes, she apparently couldn't stop Wolverine from closing the distance.
Ultimately, she was killed by him.
If everything played out as Playboy had predicted, if his guesses were all correct, then it seemed Phoenix's close-combat skills weren't particularly strong.
At least, her close-combat skills clearly couldn't match Wolverine's.
Tony gained a deeper understanding of Phoenix's situation.
"What on earth has this guy been through?!"
Charles, facing another notebook, couldn't help but marvel inwardly.
What kind of person would inject alloy into their own bones?
That must be madness!
However, Charles wasn't surprised by Wolverine's ability to extend claws from his body.
As a mutant expert, he knew well that a significant number of mutants exhibit strikingly abnormal physical changes. Even animalistic transformations were nothing out of the ordinary.
Compared to that, Charles was more interested in when and how this person would appear—more practical intelligence.
Charles refocused his attention on the diary, waiting for it to reveal more of the future.
But to his disappointment, the diary suddenly went silent.
After waiting for a while, Charles reluctantly withdrew from the diary, sinking into deep thought.
This so-called diary had revealed so much of the future to him!
So, was things really as he imagined?
Was this Zhou Cheng a mutant who could predict the future?
Why had he suddenly contacted him in this way, to tell him about these futures?
*Damn it, why tell me?!*
*What does any of this have to do with me?!*
*Even if he told me, I'm powerless to change anything!*
*Gulp!*
Charles downed a mouthful of fiery liquor, shook his head violently, trying to cast it all aside.
He told himself he was no longer Professor X; he was just a useless husk coasting through his days.
*Reversing the future, mutant extinction—none of it concerns me, and I can't do anything about it.*
*Thump!*
*Damn it!*
But after a few more drinks, Charles slammed the bottle down on the table, muttering curses under his breath.
*So, in the end, I still couldn't just stand by and do nothing, could I?*
*Just like in the movies, I put on a show of disdain for Wolverine, even berating him harshly.*
*But ultimately, didn't I still step up?*
*And even before Wolverine time-traveled here, didn't Charles still become Professor X?*
*He didn't just keep drifting through life in a drunken stupor, did he?*
*Some things are just ingrained in you, impossible to change.*
*Now that I know about the Sentinel Robots—those mutant-slaughtering machines—I can't just ignore everything.*
*But what could I even do in my current state?*
*Charles was caught in a terrible dilemma.*
*Knock, knock, knock!*
*Before he could resolve his internal conflict, a sudden knock came at the door.*
*This made Charles slightly curious. Someone had come?*
*It had been so long since that had happened.*
*But he couldn't be bothered to answer. He knew Hank would handle it.*
*As expected.*
*Hank immediately went to open the door.*
*A wild-looking uncle in a stylish jacket and sunglasses, with a bristling beard, stood before him.*
*Without a doubt, it was Wolverine.*
More precisely, it was Wolverine, time-traveling from fifty years in the future with the intention of finding Professor X and Magneto to reverse the future.
At this time, however, Hank had never heard of Wolverine.
He carefully sized up the man in front of him, speaking with a hint of caution, "Can I help you?"
"What happened to the school?" Wolverine asked, equally bewildered.
Why was the school so deserted?
Not a single soul in sight!
"The school's been closed for years. Are you a student's parent?" Hank asked, looking him up and down again, making the most logical assumption.
"I hope not. Who are you?"
"Hank McCoy. I'm in charge of looking after this house," Hank replied, stating his identity.
To his surprise, the man in front of him removed his sunglasses, his face lighting up with astonishment and excitement, as if he'd heard of Hank before.
"You're Beast?" Wolverine asked, grinning as he scanned Hank from head to toe.
The Beast he'd fought alongside on Genosha had been a young, clean-cut man?
The difference was staggering!
"I don't know what you're talking about. Please leave immediately," Hank said, his expression hardening.
He hadn't expected this guy to recognize him. He quickly tried to close the door and get rid of him.
But would Wolverine be so easily dismissed?
Despite Hank's attempts to stop him, Wolverine forced his way inside.
The two immediately began fighting.
"What's going on, Hank?"
The commotion had alerted Charles.
He emerged in his bathrobe, disheveled, to investigate.
"Do you recognize this guy?" Hank pointed at Wolverine, who lay sprawled on the floor.
The guy had been insistently demanding to see the Professor, as if the Professor owed him a fortune.
Charles sized up Wolverine, and at first glance, he seemed vaguely familiar. But upon closer reflection, he couldn't place him.
Just as he was about to casually dismiss Wolverine, Charles suddenly remembered something.
He stared intently at Wolverine. "Could you be that guy from earlier? No, that's clearly not you."
The moment the words left his mouth, Charles realized how stupid he'd sounded. How could this quintessential American wild man possibly be named "Zhou Cheng"?
"Which guy?"
Wolverine rose to his feet and introduced himself. "I'm Logan, Professor."
Logan?
The name was completely unfamiliar to Charles, as it was to Hank.
"Don't call me that," Charles corrected, waving his hand. He then ventured another guess. "So... could you be Wolverine?"
