Planet Sadala.
Goku brought Vegeta there with Instant Transmission, and the two of them appeared on the surface in an instant.
"Huh? How did you just appear out of nowhere?"
A startled voice rang out in front of them.
Both Goku and Vegeta looked over at once.
Standing opposite them was a teenage boy, around sixteen years old, dressed in Planet Sadala's native style of clothing.
Vegeta studied him for a moment, then gave a small nod. "That outfit is exactly what Saiyans wore before they joined Frieza's army. This one's definitely a Saiyan."
"Really?" Goku said, looking the boy up and down as well.
Then he and Vegeta both took in their surroundings.
Planet Sadala was a dusty yellow world under a bright blue sky.
At least the color of the sky was a lot like Earth's.
Its gravity also felt close to Planet Vegeta's, about ten times Earth's.
"So this is Planet Sadala?" Goku said, glancing between the sky, the ground, and the area around them.
They had arrived in what looked like a residential district.
The houses were similar to the kind Saiyans had once lived in on Planet Vegeta.
The moment Vegeta saw them, memories of his lost home rose in his mind.
"Hmph. It really does feel a lot like Planet Vegeta," Vegeta said. "Back then, this area would have belonged to the low-class warrior district. Looks like Planet Sadala has the same kind of zone."
Goku nodded without much interest.
"Kakarot, not long after you were born, you were brought back to a place just like this," Vegeta said with a smug grin.
"The place actually seems pretty nice," Goku replied with a laugh, completely unfazed.
"Who... who are you people?" Lusen asked, eyeing them cautiously.
"Kid, this is Planet Sadala, right?" Vegeta asked, stepping forward and clapping a hand on Lusen's shoulder with a smile.
"Of course it's Planet Sadala," Lusen said with a nod. "But who are you? And how did you get here?"
"Tell me where the king's castle is," Vegeta said directly.
"You want to see the king?" Lusen said, taken aback. Then he snorted. "Do you think His Majesty has nothing better to do? You can't just walk in because you feel like it."
"Then do you know where the Grand Prison is?" Goku asked.
"The Grand Prison?" Lusen's expression changed, and his brows drew together. "What are you trying to do?"
"My brother's locked up there. I want to go see him," Goku said honestly.
"Who's your brother?" Lusen asked.
"His name is Raditz. Do you know him?" Goku asked.
"Raditz? You mean that Saiyan with the tail?" Lusen said, suddenly recognizing the name.
About five years earlier, he really had met Raditz once.
Lusen was fairly close to Cabba.
Back then, Cabba had brought Raditz back and taken him to see the king, and Lusen had gone along as well.
"So you do know him. That's him, yeah. He's my brother. Is he doing okay?" Goku asked, sounding excited.
"What are you planning to do? Break him out?" Lusen asked, baring his teeth as he stared at Goku.
"Kakarot, I'm not coming with you. See you later," Vegeta said with a snort.
Without waiting for a response, he flew straight into the sky and vanished.
"Hey, Vegeta! Where are you going?" Goku shouted, surprised.
Vegeta ignored him and only flew faster.
Goku had no answer for that, and in the end he gave up asking.
"Are you here to rescue your brother?" Lusen asked again.
"More or less. He's been locked up for five years, right? If he's admitted he was wrong, can't they let him out?" Goku asked politely.
"He killed a lot of innocent people. He was sentenced to life imprisonment," Lusen replied.
"So life imprisonment means he's locked up forever?" Goku said, scratching his head helplessly. "That makes this complicated... Could you at least take me to see him first?"
"You think just anyone can visit the Grand Prison? Outsiders aren't allowed in," Lusen said with a light laugh.
"Then how do I get in?" Goku asked, troubled. "I can't sense Raditz's ki from here... If I could, I could use Instant Transmission to get inside."
"If you want to go to the Grand Prison, you'll have to get past me first!" Lusen shouted, and his ki suddenly erupted.
Goku blinked.
"Come on, old man. Beat me first, then maybe you'll have the right to enter the Grand Prison," Lusen said, thumbing his own nose.
"That's all?" Goku said, visibly relieved. "I thought this was going to be really complicated. That's great."
"You... what's that supposed to mean?" Lusen said, his face darkening.
Why does it sound like you're saying I'm weak?
"Don't look down on me, old man," Lusen snapped.
"I'm not. You're actually pretty impressive. Your ki's even stronger than Vegeta's the first time I met him," Goku said honestly.
"I have no idea what you're talking about! Take this!" Lusen roared as he charged straight at him.
He drove a heavy punch at Goku.
Goku casually raised one hand and caught it.
Lusen was startled. He had not expected the man to stop his punch that easily.
He immediately hopped back and swept a leg at Goku's lower body.
Goku did not move.
Lusen's leg crashed into Goku's shin.
"Aaah!"
Lusen let out a scream. He felt as if his whole leg had gone numb, and his lower calf nearly twisted out of shape.
"Haha, good thing you didn't use even more force. Otherwise you'd have broken it, and then I'd have to heal you," Goku said with a laugh, looking perfectly fine.
Lusen grabbed his leg and hopped in place on one foot, looking more ridiculous than intimidating.
"So can you tell me where the Grand Prison is now?" Goku asked.
"I'll never tell you!" Lusen shouted through the pain.
Goku fell silent.
"You really are stubborn," he said. "Fine. I'll just find it myself."
He stopped wasting time with Lusen and vanished in a blur, reappearing beside someone else.
This time it was a female Saiyan in her house, making dinner.
Lusen's eyes widened.
How did he move like that?
He jumped three kilometers away in an instant.
"Hello. Do you know where the Grand Prison is?" Goku asked.
"The Grand Prison? Do you have a friend locked up there?" the woman asked, looking up at him.
"My brother's in there. I wanted to go visit him," Goku said honestly.
"The Grand Prison... it's out in the desert, about ten kilometers northwest of the royal palace. You'll find it easily enough," the woman replied.
"And which way is the palace?" Goku asked.
"Straight that way from here. About three thousand kilometers," she said, pointing.
"Thanks. You're really nice," Goku said quickly.
"You're welcome," the woman said with a polite smile.
Goku thanked her again, flew up into the sky, and cast a strange look back toward Lusen.
That was easy.
I thought it was some huge secret.
He shot off in the direction the woman had indicated.
Lusen limped over and stopped outside the window.
"Mom, where'd that guy go?" he asked through clenched teeth. "He didn't do anything to you, did he?"
"That man just now? No, not at all. He only asked where the Grand Prison was, so I told him," the woman said with a smile.
Lusen: "..."
He instantly felt worse than ever.
"Mom! That guy obviously isn't from Planet Sadala! Why would you tell him where the Grand Prison is?" he asked helplessly.
"I didn't think he seemed like a bad person," she said after a pause.
Lusen had no response.
"Wait. What happened to your leg?" she asked, finally noticing how badly he was limping.
"It's nothing..." Lusen said, on the verge of tears.
"Lusen, what happened to you?"
At that moment, a youthful voice sounded from the distance.
Cabba flew in quickly and landed beside him.
"Cabba! Perfect timing!" Lusen said, his eyes lighting up.
"I heard you yell from far away. What happened?" Cabba asked with concern.
"Aliens landed on our planet. One of them claims he's Raditz's younger brother," Lusen said, immediately recounting everything that had just happened.
Cabba's expression turned serious.
"I understand. I'll go stop him," he said, then rose into the air at once and shot off after Goku.
After flying for a while, Goku glanced down and noticed several buildings standing in the desert below.
From one of them, he could sense a fairly strong ki.
"Is this the Grand Prison?" Goku muttered, scratching his head. "I'll go have a look."
Without hesitating, he descended from the sky.
He landed outside the building, stepped up to a window, stretched his neck forward, and called inside, "Hello? Anyone there?"
But the moment the words left his mouth, he felt something shift behind him.
A figure suddenly appeared at his back and threw a punch straight at him.
Goku reacted at once. He spun around and caught the attack with one hand.
When he looked properly, he found himself facing a little girl about the same age as Kale, with wildly spiked hair.
"Do people on this planet always like to ambush strangers?" Goku asked helplessly, scratching his head.
The girl, Caulifla, saw that her punch had been stopped, immediately leaped backward, and started sizing him up from head to toe.
"Hi. I'm Goku," Goku said, greeting her cheerfully.
Caulifla: "..."
What is this guy, some kind of instant friend?
"Did I ask for your name?" Caulifla snapped.
As soon as she said that, several more people appeared behind her.
None of them looked very old. The oldest was only in his twenties.
And every last one of them was glaring at Goku with open hostility.
"Do you even know where you are?" Caulifla asked coldly.
"Is this the Grand Prison?" Goku asked.
Caulifla: "..."
Her gang: "..."
"Does this look like a prison to you?" Caulifla shouted.
"Boss, this old guy's definitely missing a few screws," one of her underlings muttered.
"I noticed," Caulifla said with a nod.
"So it's not the Grand Prison... Great. Going to a new planet really is a pain. Figuring out where everything is takes forever," Goku said, growing more troubled by the minute.
"Boss, he doesn't look like he's from our planet," one of the underlings said suddenly.
"You can tell just from his clothes," Caulifla said before turning back to Goku. "So where are you from, old man?"
"Earth," Goku answered.
"Earth? Any of you know that planet?" Caulifla asked, looking back at her crew.
They exchanged uncertain glances. None of them seemed familiar with the name.
"I've heard of it," one of the older underlings said after thinking. "A long time ago, someone from the Sadala Defense Force took a mission and went to Planet Kut to arrest a notorious criminal. I think that guy was from Earth, and he'd been terrorizing Planet Kut. Later, the Sadala Defense Force brought him back to Planet Sadala."
"The Sadala Defense Force..." Caulifla repeated, suddenly a little distracted.
"Boss, what is it?" the underling asked.
"Nothing. Go on," Caulifla said, shaking her head.
"After that, the guy was locked up. I think they threw him in the Grand Prison for life," the underling said.
"What was his name?" Caulifla asked.
"I forgot. It's been a lot of years," the underling said, then his eyes lit up. "Oh, right. I heard he was a Saiyan too. One with a tail."
"Oh! Then that has to be Raditz!" Goku exclaimed. "That's my brother."
Caulifla's expression turned strange at once.
Her underlings glared even harder.
So this guy is that prisoner's brother?
"I know my brother did bad things. I just want to see him," Goku said quickly.
"Why don't you have a tail?" Caulifla asked after waving her gang quiet.
"I used to. It was removed a long time ago," Goku answered.
"Oh? This is the first time I've heard of a tailed Saiyan," Caulifla said, studying him with a grin. "You look strong. Fight me properly. Beat me, and then I'll let you leave."
"Is that really all?" Goku asked, scratching his head. Then he paused. "Wait, that doesn't make sense. Even if I wanted to leave, you couldn't stop me anyway."
Caulifla's face darkened.
"Who exactly are you looking down on?" she asked.
"Maybe let's not do this. You look about the same age as my son and future daughter-in-law. Wait till you're older," Goku said, not quite willing to hit her. She looked around the same age as Kale.
"Your son and future daughter-in-law?" Caulifla repeated, speechless. "How old is your son if he already has a wife lined up?"
"They're not married yet," Goku said with a laugh. "Her name's Kale. She's really strong."
"W-What did you just say?" Caulifla asked, her ears practically perking up as her expression turned serious.
Goku blinked, not understanding why she suddenly looked so intense.
"You said your future daughter-in-law is Kale?" Caulifla asked.
"Do you know her?" Goku asked.
"What does she look like?" Caulifla asked, sounding excited now.
"She has dark skin, and she's a Saiyan too," Goku said honestly. "Actually, that's right. She should be from Planet Sadala."
"Boss, do you think it's really Kale?" one of the underlings asked excitedly.
"It has to be," Caulifla said firmly.
"So you really do know her," Goku said, looking at Caulifla and the others.
"A long time ago, Kale suddenly disappeared without a trace. So you people kidnapped her?" Caulifla shouted in fury.
"I think you've got the wrong idea," Goku said quickly, distancing himself from the accusation. "Merus was probably the one who brought her away, but he's not some kidnapper. He's an angel."
"Enough with the nonsense. Tell me where Kale is," Caulifla demanded through clenched teeth.
"She's on Earth," Goku said without hiding it.
"Good. For your sake, you'd better not be lying," Caulifla said.
"Why would I lie?" Goku asked, baffled.
"Boss, what do we do next? Are we going to Earth to bring Kale back?" one of the underlings asked.
"Of course we are. We have to bring her home. She must be living a miserable life on a planet like that," Caulifla said with a grave nod. "Get a spaceship ready right now. We'll rest a little, then head for Earth immediately."
"What about him?" another underling asked, pointing at Goku.
"To make sure he doesn't leak our plan to go to Earth, knock him out first and send him to the Grand Prison," one of them suggested.
"Done," Caulifla said with a nod. Then she raised a hand to stop them. "None of you move. This guy's not simple. I'll handle him myself."
"Hey, can I go now?" Goku asked politely.
"Want to leave? Sure. Try surviving one move from me first!" Caulifla said with a grin, vanishing from where she stood.
In an instant, she appeared high above Goku and whipped a kick down at his head.
Goku had sensed her coming long before the attack landed. He simply shifted sideways and let the kick miss.
Then he struck with one open hand and chopped the back of her neck.
Caulifla's mind went blank on the spot.
She dropped to the ground and blacked out immediately.
Her gang stared in utter shock.
Their boss was incredibly strong.
And this guy had taken her out in one hit?
"Sorry. I think I hit her a little too hard. You don't seem like bad people..." Goku said, scratching his head as he addressed the stunned Saiyans. "She only fainted. She'll wake up soon enough. I'm going to find my brother now. See you."
With that, he flew into the sky and vanished in the distance.
None of them dared chase him. They all rushed over to wake Caulifla instead.
"Damn it! I won't let that guy get away with this!" Caulifla shouted, trembling with rage the moment she came to.
Goku flew onward for a while longer and finally spotted a huge circular structure rising from the desert ahead.
"That should be the Grand Prison, right?" he murmured, scratching his head as he looked toward it.
