Chapter 289 - Chapter 289 – A Detour Before Planet Sadala

"You didn't know? I'm pregnant," Gine said with a cheerful smile.

Goku blinked.

"Pregnant?" he repeated, stunned.

"In a few more months, you're going to be an older brother," Gine said softly.

"Huh?" Goku froze.

"Don't tell me you don't even understand how pregnancy works. You already have Gohan," Gine said, torn between amusement and disbelief.

"Chi-Chi was pregnant while I was away," Goku said awkwardly, scratching his head.

"You really are a terrible husband sometimes," Gine said, then glanced meaningfully at Bardock. "When a woman is pregnant, that's when she needs her man beside her most."

"But now that you mention it... Chi-Chi's stomach has looked a little bigger lately too," Goku said, suddenly thinking of something.

"You mean Chi-Chi might be pregnant too?" Gine asked in surprise.

"She hasn't told me, so I'm not sure yet," Goku replied, shaking his head.

Gine went silent.

Bardock said nothing either.

His son had plenty of power, but sometimes his brain lagged behind the rest of him.

Then again, maybe it was not that he was stupid. He was just unbelievably dense.

Call him brainless, and sometimes he would turn around and show surprising sharpness.

Call him sharp, and somehow he still would not notice his own wife was pregnant.

"Is Chi-Chi's stomach about the same size as mine?" Gine asked, pointing at her belly.

Goku nodded, leaned closer for a better look, then even pressed his ear against it to listen carefully.

"Oh? There's something moving in there!" Goku said in amazement. "That's incredible."

"That's your little brother or sister," Gine said gently.

"Really? If Chi-Chi's stomach looks about the same..." Goku murmured, rubbing his chin. "Then Gohan's about to have a little brother or sister too."

"That's right," Gine said with a nod.

"Have you picked a name yet?" Goku asked. Then he brightly suggested, "What about Goten?"

Gine: "..."

Bardock: "..."

"That's your son's name. Why would we use that?" Gine said irritably.

"The old naming system from Planet Vegeta is gone, so we'll just have to pick something ourselves," Bardock said after thinking it over.

"Just pick something ourselves? That's the wording you're going with?" Gine snapped, eyebrows rising on the spot.

"What I mean is... we'll choose carefully," Bardock corrected immediately.

"Hmph. Better," Gine said.

"What about Kari if it's a boy, or Kali if it's a girl?" Bardock suggested after a moment.

"We'll leave it at that for now. Once the baby's born, I'm choosing the name myself," Gine said. She still had a feeling Bardock had tossed those names out on the fly, and she was not happy about it.

"Dad, when are we heading to Planet Sadala?" Goku asked, changing the subject.

"After lunch," Bardock said, looking up at the sky. "It's time to bring your brother back. Hopefully he's ready to truly change."

"So soon? All right, works for me," Goku said with an easy nod. "I've been wanting to get out and stretch my legs anyway. Maybe I'll even find someone amazing to spar with."

Bardock said nothing for a moment, then looked up at the stars and asked in a low voice, "Kakarot, you can't survive in outer space, can you?"

"No, Dad. If I go out into space, I'll die," Goku said plainly. He knew that much.

"That makes things harder," Bardock said, his expression turning a little grim.

"It's fine. As long as I know roughly where Planet Sadala is, I might be able to get there with Instant Transmission," Goku said with a grin.

Bardock's eyes shifted slightly.

That actually might work.

And as it happened, Bardock knew Planet Sadala's location very well.

After lunch, Bardock pointed toward the northwest sky.

"That way?" Goku asked, then nodded at once. "Okay, I'll give it a try. Since it's a Saiyan planet, there should be plenty of strong ki there. I ought to be able to find it."

As he spoke, Goku closed his eyes and started searching for the ki from Planet Sadala.

"Kakarot!"

At that moment, Vegeta's voice rang out from above.

A streak of light shot in from the distance, and Vegeta dropped down beside Goku.

"Vegeta? What are you doing here?" Goku asked, a little surprised.

"Hmph. Didn't you say that if you went to Planet Sadala, you'd take me with you?" Vegeta said, clearly annoyed.

"Yeah... I did say that, didn't I? Then let's go together," Goku said, scratching his head as he finally remembered.

Vegeta had no response to that.

The way you say it makes it sound like it barely matters at all.

You don't even look guilty.

"I've trained for a full year. I'm not the same Vegeta I was a year ago," Vegeta said smugly, lifting his chin.

"Vegeta, hold on a second. I'm trying to sense Planet Sadala right now," Goku said quickly.

"How did Prince Vegeta know we were leaving at this exact time?" Bardock asked, glancing at him.

"I counted the days. You were about due to leave," Vegeta replied.

Bardock did not press him.

About a minute passed.

"Oh? There's a really strong ki in that direction... and it feels familiar too... Could that be Planet Sadala?" Goku said, eyes lighting up as he pointed the way Bardock had indicated earlier.

"Let's go check," Bardock said, placing a hand on Goku's shoulder.

Vegeta immediately stepped forward and did the same.

"You two be careful, and come back soon," Gine said to Bardock and Goku.

They both nodded.

"We're off," Goku said, waving to her.

In the next instant, Goku used Instant Transmission and vanished with Bardock and Vegeta, arriving in a single flash on a strange planet.

The moment the three of them appeared, Frost nearly jumped out of his skin.

"Who are you people? And what are you doing on my planet?" Frost shouted angrily.

"Frieza?" Vegeta said, startled. Then a delighted smile spread across his face. "So that bastard is still alive after all."

Without another word, Vegeta strode forward and kicked Frost flat onto the ground.

Frost's mind went blank.

Who is this lunatic?

Why is he attacking me the second he sees me?

"Vegeta, he's not—" Goku began. He had met Frost in the future timeline before and knew exactly who he was.

"Shut up," Vegeta snapped. "Last time Trunks chopped Frieza into pieces. Don't tell me that still wasn't enough to kill him. Or what, did he get revived again?"

Vegeta planted his foot right on Frost's face and looked thoroughly pleased with himself.

Frost felt terrible. He struggled desperately, but it was useless.

After all, he was only in his first form right now.

Vegeta had not even gone Super Saiyan, but his base power was already overwhelmingly high.

"Damn you! I won't forgive this!" Frost roared in fury, already preparing to transform into his final form and grind this man into the dirt.

"What, only now you remember you can transform?" Vegeta said with a light laugh, finally taking his foot off him. "Go on, do it. Otherwise, if you get beaten to death in that weak form, don't blame anyone but yourself."

Frost stared at him in shock, scrambled to his feet, and fixed Vegeta with a stunned look. "Y-You... how do you know I can transform? Hardly anyone knows that!"

"What? Don't tell me you don't recognize me, Frieza," Vegeta said with a snort.

"I'm not this Frieza you keep talking about!" Frost shouted in embarrassment and rage. "Do you have the wrong person?"

"No mistake. You look exactly like him," Vegeta said coldly. "Wait. Don't tell me you're Frieza reincarnated."

"Reincarnated?" Frost said, thrown off again.

"Vegeta... you've got it wrong. This is Universe 6," Goku reminded him from the side.

Vegeta stiffened, then finally came to his senses.

Right.

This was Universe 6.

Then this guy must be the mirror counterpart of Frieza.

That explained why they looked so alike.

Even after realizing his mistake, Vegeta still stomped on Frost one more time before stepping back.

"You're Frost, right?" Goku asked, walking over.

"Y-You know me?" Frost asked warily.

Goku nodded. "Sort of. I met a version of you from a future timeline... hahaha."

Frost: "...?"

What kind of nonsense was that supposed to mean?

"Is this Planet Sadala?" Goku asked, looking around. It was a world of snow and ice, white in every direction.

Only then did he notice just how cold the air was. The wind cut through him like blades. It felt like the temperature had fallen below minus forty.

"Wow, it's freezing..." Goku muttered, wrapping his arms around himself.

"Planet Sadala? You're looking for Planet Sadala?" Frost repeated, recovering a little. His face darkened. "No, this isn't over yet. That man attacked me. If I don't get an explanation today, I won't let any of you leave."

"Vegeta, he really isn't Frieza. You should probably apologize," Goku suggested.

"Apologize? Hah. As if," Vegeta scoffed.

Bardock, however, raised his head and looked toward the sky, his eyes shifting slightly.

"Dad, what is it?" Goku asked at once, noticing the change in his expression.

"It's Champa. He's on a nearby planet," Bardock said, the corner of his mouth lifting into a faint smile. "Perfect. Kakarot, this isn't Planet Sadala. Planet Sadala is still further that way. You and Vegeta go on ahead. I'm going to challenge Champa."

"Okay, Dad. Be careful, and good luck!" Goku said, his expression turning serious.

Bardock said nothing more. Light flared around him, and he shot into the sky in a golden streak, vanishing almost instantly.

As soon as Bardock left, Frost finally relaxed a little.

Of the three strangers, Bardock was the only one who truly scared him.

For some reason, just looking at that man made his heart pound with dread.

Now that he was gone, things were much better.

"So Planet Sadala is over there? Then yeah, this definitely wasn't it," Goku said in sudden realization.

"Hmph. I knew from the start this wasn't Sadala, Kakarot," Vegeta said. "Planet Sadala should look much more like Planet Vegeta."

"I'll search again," Goku said, pressing two fingers to his forehead.

Frost: "..."

He felt like his blood pressure was about to burst through the roof.

"Did either of you hear a word I said just now?" Frost roared.

"Hm? What were you saying?" Goku asked, blinking at him.

"I said you attacked me, and this is not over," Frost said darkly.

So I've been talking to myself this whole time?

"I didn't hit you," Goku said, shaking his head and pointing at Vegeta. "He did."

"What difference does that make? You're together, aren't you?" Frost shouted, nearly twisting his nose with anger.

"No," Vegeta said immediately. "Why would I ever be with an idiot like him?"

Frost looked from Goku to Vegeta, then back again, suddenly unsure.

These two really aren't together?

"Found it," Goku said suddenly, his eyes lighting up again. "I found Planet Sadala. There are a lot of strong ki signatures there. They've got to be Saiyans."

As he said that, Goku reached out a hand toward Vegeta.

Vegeta let out a snort, but he still took it.

Seeing the two men clasp hands like that, Frost wanted to curse.

And you're still claiming you're not together?

"See you later, Frost," Goku said with a wave.

"You're not going anywhere! You beat me and now you think you can just leave? What kind of lawless nonsense is that?" Frost roared.

Without another second of hesitation, he transformed on the spot into his final form.

"Hah!"

He slashed a hand forward, sending a powerful wave of energy racing toward Goku and Vegeta.

But in the same instant, both of them vanished from where they stood.

The blast slammed into the frozen ground and shook the entire planet.

A bottomless crater opened where they had been standing, flames of energy still dancing above it.

"Damn it! They got away!" Frost growled through clenched teeth. "This is not over! They were heading to Planet Sadala, weren't they?"

Just wait.

I'll make you regret this.

Frost returned at once to his castle and took out a communicator.

A voice answered from the other end almost immediately.

"Hello. Is that Mr. Frost?"

"This is Frost. King of Sadala, it's been a long time," Frost said coldly.

The man on the other end was none other than the king of Planet Sadala.

"Mr. Frost, what can I do for you?" the king asked directly.

It had been a long time since Frost had contacted him, so if he was calling now, it had to be important.

"Two men suddenly barged onto my planet and attacked me without a word. Of course, I wasn't prepared. If I had been, they never would have gotten the drop on me," Frost said, gritting his teeth in rage.

"That happened?" the king said, surprised.

"They seem to have some kind of technique similar to Instant Transmission. If I'm right, they may already be heading for Planet Sadala," Frost continued.

"I understand. If they arrive on Planet Sadala, I'll have my men seize them and hold them for you," the king said at once.

"Thank you, Your Majesty," Frost said, even changing the way he addressed him.

"You're too polite, Mr. Frost. You've always cooperated with the Saiyans, so your affairs are our affairs," the king replied courteously.

"Then I'll leave now. If nothing delays me, I should reach Planet Sadala in under three days," Frost said.

"Very well. Planet Sadala will await your arrival," the king said.

After ending the call, Frost immediately boarded his spaceship.

The ship launched and shot off at full speed toward Planet Sadala.
