Listening to Lucas's easy explanation of the new game's world, everyone got a basic idea.
It was clear that they were going to make a fantasy game.
"So, Boss Lucas, is this going to be an RPG?" Anna asked, curious.
Even though it was just a few words, Anna figured out a lot.
In the introduction, they really focused on being unfriendly and cold, and the main character is a monster hunter.
So, it's clear that in the game, the monster hunters and magic users don't get along well with humans.
Also, the game mentioned countries and groups, so there must be more than one country in the game.
And since they're countries in a fantasy world, they probably aren't just playing house.
The player, as the monster hunter, will probably be involved in it.
This is definitely the template for an RPG.
Otherwise, Lucas wouldn't have focused so much on the game's world setting.
"That's right, it will be an open-world action RPG," Lucas said with a smile, agreeing with Anna.
In terms of popularity, "Resident Evil" and "Bloodborne" were very popular.
But in terms of sales, they couldn't compare to games that were a huge deal.
During this time, Zeus bought FOW and released "Kingdom Come: Deliverance." Even though it came out at the same time as "Assassin's Creed," it was still pretty good because it was well-made.
After that, FOW's skills, combined with Zeus's deep pockets, led to two more really good games.
This helped Zeus increase its market share a lot.
On the other hand, CosmosVR, even though Lucas made "Resident Evil" and "Bloodborne," released them on PC at the same time. Also, the games themselves didn't really help Cosmos that much.
As for other companies like NetDragon and SkyNova in China, SkyNova released two pretty good games after the failure of "Age of Warlords."
But they were only "pretty good," not good enough to be their best game.
NetDragon, after the flop of their sequel, focused on Nebula Games' Switch instead of VR in the second half of last year and the first part of this year.
Using the motion controls, NetDragon decided to bring back an old game: "Dancing Paradise."
Back in the day, it was a big deal all over the world, but it needed special dance pads. Before VR and PC were popular, this game sold really well.
But as time went on, it faded away.
But when NetDragon put it on the Switch and changed the gameplay a bit, it sold really well!
This showed NetDragon a whole new world.
The VR game flopped, and the bad sales made the financial reports look bad, making investors lose hope.
But then the Switch version made them money, and they were saved!
So, NetDragon focused on the Switch.
Zeus also used a lot of money to get many companies that used to be part of CosmosVR to switch over to Zeus.
This made the Game Division a little worried, and David talked to Lucas about it privately.
Also, Lucas is not only the boss of Nebula Games, but he also has an honorary position at the Game Division.
Of course, even though it's an honorary position, he still has some special powers.
For example, it's easier for his games to get approved.
Otherwise, Lucas wouldn't have thought about making the next game.
"The Witcher," or rather "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," is the game Lucas chose.
Compared to soulslike and horror games, action RPGs have the biggest audience in the world.
Even bigger than first-person shooters.
Even though "The Witcher" series was based on a Polish book in the past, that doesn't really matter.
The reason "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" became popular all over the world and was considered one of the greatest action RPGs was that most players hadn't played the previous games or read the books.
But that didn't stop them from enjoying the story of Geralt of Rivia.
Even though it was based on the books, the story was completely different. The "Witcher" games started by continuing the story from the books.
In the books, Geralt of Rivia died after being stabbed with a pitchfork while protecting some dwarves during a riot against non-humans.
His lover, Yennefer, tried to save him but used up all her life force and died with him.
Their adopted daughter, Ciri, took their bodies away. That was Geralt's ending in the books.
But the games continued the story and changed some things from the books.
The reason for choosing "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" was that the gameplay and setting were more mature and complete, and especially because of the story.
The first game showed the lives of different people, and the second focused on the political wars of the Northern Kingdoms. In both games, Geralt was mostly an outsider who was drawn into power struggles and big events.
But in the third game, "Wild Hunt," Geralt really started his own main story.
"This game will be huge, and we'll need to show the different areas and customs. I'll talk about that more later."
"Also, Hector and Rachel, you have some work to do. Add some special surprises related to the game in Nebula World. We need to keep getting people excited about the game while it's being made," Lucas said to everyone.
Hearing Lucas's words, everyone was shocked.
Very few games had gotten this kind of treatment before!
And they were going to start talking about the game before it was even officially started?
They usually waited until they created a new folder before doing that!
"What do you mean 'talking'? Don't make it sound so bad. Just saying things, like putting up a poster on the official blog or writing a title, that's just talking. But we're going to show players some of the game's background and information through Nebula World."
"These are treats, not just talk!" Lucas said seriously to everyone.
Think before you speak.
This isn't just talking, it's a special treat for the players.
Of course, besides getting players excited and looking forward to the game, Lucas thought this was also important for another reason.
Even though "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" was really good, some people didn't finish it.
The problem wasn't the game's quality, but that there was too much information and it was confusing for players.
Also, the beginning of the game, White Orchard, was slow, which made many people give up before they could experience the huge world of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt."
So, while making "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," Lucas planned to use special events in Nebula World to slowly reveal some of the game's background information to players.
For example, the Trial of the Grasses for witchers, and some basic world settings.
So, this isn't just talk, it's a real special event and it's for the players!
