MHGA Chapter 396: This is a Hunter's Destiny

"That's Shagaru Magala?"

Homura Akemi's gaze locked onto Shagaru Magala, witnessing the reborn Walpurgisnacht's body being torn apart by the golden dragon.

The platinum-white figure was plummeting toward the ground alongside the Witch.

This was precisely why Shagaru Magala had carried Walpurgisnacht into the sky—to forcibly tear apart the Witch's body with its powerful claws and consume the Grief Seed hidden within.

"Looks like you've slimmed down after not seeing you for a while."

Kairo Retsu appeared relaxed, observing the visibly leaner Shagaru Magala.

Although its wounds had healed long ago, Shagaru Magala clearly expended a massive amount of energy during its recovery period.

Walpurgisnacht sensed the danger and instinctively tried to resist, but before it could muster strength, Shagaru Magala had already detected its movements and bit fiercely into the attacking body.

In close-quarters combat, the Elder Dragon Shagaru Magala displayed absolute superiority.

"!"

Homura was astonished. Walpurgisnacht, previously an invincible monster in her memories, was now reduced to helpless prey being shredded. Ultimately, Shagaru Magala tore out the Grief Seed from within the Witch, leaving the remaining fragments to disperse slowly during their fall.

Having obtained Walpurgisnacht's core, Shagaru Magala swallowed the despair-infused Grief Seed without hesitation and flapped its wings to ascend once more.

The somewhat emaciated Shagaru Magala hovered in the air, gazing warily down at Kairo Retsu on the deck, clear apprehension visible in its golden eyes.

Shagaru Magala flapped its wings, seemingly intent on leaving without engaging Kairo Retsu's group directly.

However, after flying merely several dozen meters, it sensed an acute threat approaching from below.

Shagaru Magala swiftly changed course, narrowly evading a slash from Himmel.

Simultaneously, Restraint Ballistas from every direction opened fire at Shagaru Magala.

Sharp-barbed Restraint Bolts, tethered by sturdy ropes, shot toward the dragon.

Facing numerous dragon-hunting devices, Shagaru Magala perceived a severe threat. Using its powerful wings, it began evasive maneuvers in midair.

"Don't think you can escape so easily."

Kairo Retsu stared intently at the dragon dodging through the air. "We're counting on your body to craft the antidote to the Frenzy Virus!"

Just as Shagaru Magala evaded the first barrage and prepared to distance itself from the hunters who previously wounded it, Altair appeared before it, surrounded by numerous spinning sabers, glaring fiercely.

Right now, Setsuna from another world was still suffering from the Frenzy Virus.

To create a targeted cure, they needed tissue samples from the virus's original source.

Furthermore, Altair had witnessed Shagaru Magala severely injuring Chaotic Gore Magala. If not for Kairo Retsu's intervention in this world, Chaotic Gore Magala might have succumbed to its injuries.

"I won't let you escape!"

Eyes glowing red, Altair unleashed the full extent of her Holopsicon power.

Aware that directly attacking Shagaru Magala would be ineffective, Altair placed all her hope onto the Monster Hunters.

Her flying sabers formed a vast cage around Shagaru Magala, trapping it and everything nearby.

Realizing its predicament, Shagaru Magala slammed forward with its wings, attempting to break free.

However, as it approached the cage's boundaries, the sabers forming the cage converged tightly, forcibly repelling the dragon's charge and confining it within.

Having released the cage, Altair's strength quickly faded, leaving barely enough power to remain airborne.

This cage of Holopsicon power was smaller and sturdier than the previous Birdcage. Moreover, Altair poured nearly all available acceptance into maintaining it.

As Altair began descending from exhaustion, she clenched her fist tightly, staring determinedly at Shagaru Magala thrashing against the cage.

"I absolutely won't let you escape!"

After multiple unsuccessful attempts at breaking the cage walls, Shagaru Magala tried clawing through the sabers, but the surrounding dragon-hunting mechanisms finished reloading, forcing it to abandon its escape attempt.

"ROOOAARRR—"

Shagaru Magala ascended to the cage's apex, glaring down at Kairo Retsu calmly standing on the deck. Spreading its wings wide, it let out a deafening roar toward him.

The intimidating posture seemed to question whether the hunters who chased it this far truly needed to persist.

Must the fight conclude here in mutual destruction?

"What a terrifying monster…"

Homura stared at the gold dragon radiating intimidation in the sky. Despite the rainy air, her mouth felt inexplicably dry.

Unlike despair-filled Witches, she felt Shagaru Magala represented a different, overwhelming power.

Pure, powerful life.

It was as if countless streams of vitality and energy had coalesced into that singular creature's body.

However, Kairo Retsu had a different perception.

The gaze shared between himself and Shagaru Magala in the sky recalled memories from MH4G—when the hunter pursued the Elder Dragon-turned-bringer-of-renewal through the Sanctuary.

Even after drastically changing form, the hunter recognized the Gore Magala he had relentlessly chased.

Even though Gore Magala had been blind, the Shagaru Magala within the Sanctuary recognized the hunter who pursued it.

In nature, where all living things struggled desperately for survival, only one side could prevail.

"We Monster Hunters fight for those afflicted by your Frenzy Virus—for their right to continue living!" Kairo Retsu met Shagaru Magala's gaze unflinchingly.

"This is the destiny between Hunters and Monsters!"
