MHGA Chapter 351 – Dragon Battle
"What the hell! Why are you playing a Hunting Horn while Wyvern Riding?! And why the hell is the dragon you're riding glowing red too?! This is totally illegal!!!"
On the ground, Kazuma—his gear scuffed and dirty from the explosions—looked up at the sky, shouting in disbelief as Kairo Retsu soared overhead astride the Chaotic Gore Magala.
The Hunting Horn—the only Hunter weapon capable of providing team-wide buffs. An evolution of the Hammer, it could be swung to deal blunt damage like its cousin, but also composed of various musical instruments, it allowed users to play melodies with powerful supportive effects for allies.
Just like now—Kairo Retsu, controlling the Chaotic Gore Magala via Silkbind, played a triumphant, horn-like melody from his Hunting Horn midair.
That tune embraced all those Kairo Retsu recognized as comrades. The Attack Up melody surged with a swell of strength.
The blaring melody, like a battle horn calling a charge, mixed with the roaring of the Chaotic Gore Magala fighting with every ounce of strength. Together, they clashed against the Shagaru Magala in the sky.
The collision was immense—so much so that the Shagaru Magala was knocked back by the charge, even sustaining visible damage.

The Shagaru Magala's eyes flashed with confusion.
It had never expected this failure—this creature it had already grievously wounded—to rise and challenge it again.
As an Elder Dragon, and sovereign of ascension, the insult of a fallen subordinate daring to challenge it sparked instant fury.
"ROOOOOAAAARRR——————!"
The Shagaru Magala flapped its wings, its powerful wingclaws reversing the charge and halting the momentum of the advancing Chaotic Gore Magala.
Those wings, thicker and more forceful than even its opponent's, gripped the Chaotic Gore Magala's own wingclaws and yanked in opposite directions. The Shagaru Magala itself began to charge up a Frenzy Beam in its maw, preparing to blast the attack directly at the Chaotic Gore Magala's face.
But as it focused entirely on the Chaotic Gore Magala, it suddenly noticed that tiny bipedal ape clinging to the dragon's back—Kairo Retsu—had already raised his massive Hunting Horn, and without hesitation, slammed it into the Shagaru Magala's charging mouth, jamming it straight into the cluster of energy gathering for the Frenzy Beam.
"This isn't some one-on-one duel…"
Kairo Retsu snarled, slamming the Hunting Horn deeper—"Impact Burst!!!"
Impact Burst: Introduced in Monster Hunter Rise, this Silkbind attack drives a Wirebug-laced blade into a monster, causing resonance with the Hunting Horn's melodies.
The Wirebug-imbued blade lodged into the Shagaru Magala's facial scales. At the same time, Kairo Retsu unleashed the melody that had been building within his Hunting Horn.
"Take this—Sonic Wave Echo!"
A concussive horn blast erupted from the Shagaru Magala's mouth. The elemental shockwave of Sonic Wave Echo collided with the charged Frenzy Beam inside the dragon's throat—
—causing a premature detonation.
The resulting backfire nearly melted half of Kairo Retsu's body. Had Sirius not swiftly cast Holopsicon to shield part of the blast, he would've been instantly obliterated by the internal Frenzy Beam explosion.
The Shagaru Magala's head jerked upward, mouth smoking. Even as his face was half torn open, Kairo Retsu pulled on the Silkbind threads, signaling the next move to the Chaotic Gore Magala.
Despite having its wingclaws locked by the enemy, the Chaotic Gore Magala resisted the pain. With a sudden beat of its wings, it yanked one of the Shagaru Magala's claws back, lifting its head and sinking its fangs into the Shagaru Magala's shoulder—right between its wingclaw and neck.
The Shagaru Magala roared in pain, tightening its grip and attempting to rip the Chaotic Gore Magala's wings clean off.
Locked in this aerial death struggle, the two dragons' wings could no longer sustain flight. Dragging Kairo Retsu and Sirius with them, the two behemoths began plummeting toward the earth.
During the fall, the Chaotic Gore Magala's teeth pierced the Shagaru Magala's hide.
And from the wound, Elder Dragon blood began to flow.
The Shagaru Magala was an Elder Dragon. The most definitive trait of such creatures was the presence of the rare material Elder Dragon Blood within their bodies.
But the Gore Magala—a failed form of the Shagaru Magala—was not classified as an Elder Dragon.
Now labeled a Pseudo-Wyvern, the Gore Magala—and its Chaotic variant—lacked that trait. No Elder Dragon Blood could ever be carved from their bodies.
But the blood now seeping from the Shagaru Magala's wound—so unlike the Gore Magala's typical purplish-black, Frenzy-laced ichor—was unmistakably Elder Dragon Blood, rich with power.
The scent of it ignited a frenzy within the Chaotic Gore Magala.
Though its left wingclaw was overwhelmed and restrained, the right wingclaw, now gilded in gold from its partial metamorphosis, surged with power. It wrenched free and slammed into the Shagaru Magala's body.
The immense backlash struck the Shagaru Magala's chest, giving the Chaotic Gore Magala enough momentum to rip a chunk of flesh from its opponent's shoulder.
The two dragons violently separated.
The Shagaru Magala, hissing, soared back into the sky.
Meanwhile, the Chaotic Gore Magala and Kairo Retsu crashed into a building below, reducing it to rubble. Then—rising from the dust and debris—they stood once more.
Kairo Retsu, with a scorched and mangled arm from the blast, poured a Recovery Potion down his throat. Then, regaining his grip on the Silkbind wires, he resumed his control over the dragon.
Without hesitation, he directed the Chaotic Gore Magala to lift its imperfectly transformed right wingclaw, scooping up debris from the ruined building. It whipped the rubble into a swirling storm and hurled it at the Shagaru Magala.
The Elder Dragon, after enduring this flurry of challenges, began to grow truly serious. The Frenzy Virus radiated from its body, intercepting the incoming rubble. The stones were instantly pulverized into gray powder, cascading like ashen snow.
"Open wide!"
Seeing this, Kairo Retsu no longer held back. With a flick of the Silkbind thread, he commanded the Chaotic Gore Magala to open its maw.
Then—he pulled out everything from his backpack. Keeping only recovery items, he shoved all other potions into the dragon's mouth.
A crimson glow of power and an orange shimmer of defense began to glow across the Chaotic Gore Magala's body. Stamina-enhancing items like Dash Juice flooded its system, replenishing its vitality.
