"Perhaps," Daeron said with a smile.
But there was no warmth in it.
"Though remembering what happened back then…" his eyes darkened slightly, "I doubt Valerian forgets such things easily. Least of all him."
Cedric studied him carefully. "You sound as though you know more than most people about that incident."
Daeron chuckled softly.
"Oh, I know many things. It's one of my more charming qualities."
Cedric resisted the urge to sigh.
Gods.
The man turned everything into mockery.
"But then again," Daeron continued casually, "my dear brother appears rather enamored with his cursed wife, so perhaps I shouldn't judge."
Cedric frowned slightly.
"I saw her briefly when I first arrived at the palace," he admitted quietly. "And as a man… I simply cannot wrap my head around why the king even agreed to marry her."
Daeron arched a brow.
"Marriage among royals is rarely about beauty."
