The fight beneath the convergence complex continued without any pause long enough for either Haotian or the Demon General to reset themselves. Their previous exchanges had already carried them across the boundary of the second balancing station, and the surrounding floor was scored where the polearm had struck stone or where Haotian's footing had absorbed enough force to crack the surface. Blood from the cut along Haotian's left forearm had reached his palm and made direct gripping unreliable, while the bruised shoulder beneath the cracked armor resisted whenever he raised the arm too sharply. The Demon General had taken less visible damage, but the fractured section of his chest plate and the slower transitions of his weapon arm showed the accumulation of Haotian's earlier strikes.
Above them, the southern intake finally changed hands during the same prolonged exchange. The local Blue Sphere commander had waited through another regulator fluctuation instead of forcing the platform under unfavorable pressure, and when the burden dropped again, Veridian Prime extended the stable approach long enough for the front formation to enter the control ring. Marephoros absorbed the first returning surge while Pyrelith destroyed only an isolated defensive barrier that had already been separated from the intake's main conduits. By the time the southern specialists reported full control, all four outer nodes were operating under coalition hands and Xuanyin could finally treat the surface network as a system rather than three captured positions surrounding one contested gap.
She did not try to make the four intakes identical. North could tolerate heavier pressure through its reinforced road structure, west remained vulnerable if burden drained too quickly, south depended on several conduits Veridian had physically stabilized, and east still carried part of its load through the vertical relationships left from the aerial platforms. Xuanyin placed Blue Sphere specialists at the center of the captured first balancing station and told them to maintain those differences rather than forcing equal readings across the network. "If one node can safely carry more than another, use that," she said while Marephoros commanders adjusted their receiving formations. "We are sharing burden, not pretending the ground is the same everywhere."
The first balancing station became the center of the coalition's outer framework. Blue Sphere maintained the formation relationships among the four intakes, while Marephoros controlled how quickly pressure moved between them and prevented sudden transfers from reaching any one node as a single violent surge. Veridian Prime continued reporting physical limits from every sector, sometimes restricting a route even when the formation itself still appeared stable. That information allowed Xuanyin to decide where the system could actually accept burden instead of trusting only the readings produced by captured Abyss controls.
The Demon General tested that framework almost immediately. He used a brief separation from Haotian to push a heavy adjustment through the regulator, sending most of the first surge toward the northern intake while reducing western pressure at the same time. The northern control plates brightened under the increase, and the western formation began losing enough burden that several supporting relationships weakened instead of strengthening. Xuanyin saw both changes together and ordered the first balancing station to spread part of the northern surge across east while Marephoros slowed the western drain.
Haotian felt the same manipulation beneath his feet. The General had used a more precise regulator adjustment than the smaller corrections he had attempted during their close fighting, but the polearm had become simpler during those breaths, relying on one strong thrust to create distance rather than the layered sequence of blade, shaft, and grip changes Haotian had been forced to deal with earlier. Haotian stepped outside the thrust, redirected the shaft with his right forearm, and entered before the demon could recover the weapon's full range. His injured left arm stayed close to the General's body where the blade had less room to travel, while his right hand attacked the weapon elbow and kept the demon from settling back over the cleanest control point.
The General responded by shortening the polearm immediately. The lower shaft struck toward Haotian's ribs, and when Haotian turned enough to soften the impact, the demon used the same motion to bring the blade down toward the damaged shoulder. Haotian moved inside the descending edge and drove his shoulder into the General's chest instead of retreating, forcing both men several steps across the station floor. The regulator remained almost unchanged while the polearm sequence demanded the General's full attention.
Haotian had seen enough repetitions to trust the relationship now, but knowing the limitation did not mean the General could be neutralized simply by staying close. The demon could still make smaller adjustments to the regulator while fighting at high intensity, and he had already begun choosing those smaller changes more carefully. Instead of trying to overload one intake completely, he started creating mismatched pressure among several nodes, allowing the second balancing station and regulator to correct one another in ways that made the coalition expend constant effort maintaining the outer framework. Haotian therefore concentrated on denying him the moments required for the largest manipulations rather than assuming close pressure would stop the system from changing at all.
The next regulator adjustment pushed burden east through the partially converted aerial structures. Although Celestara had taken the platforms, several vertical conduits still remained active because destroying them before the intake was fully mapped would have transferred pressure elsewhere. The sudden increase climbed through those relationships and made two captured platforms shudder above the eastern node. Yueru looked up as dust fell from the underside of one structure and asked the Blue Sphere specialist whether the platform itself was carrying dangerous load or merely passing it downward.
The specialist checked the reading before answering. "Both. If we cut the vertical line now, the intake gets everything at once."
Yueru turned toward the Celestara commander nearby. "Then clear anyone who does not need to be standing up there and keep the platforms from becoming another battlefield." Celestara began reducing personnel on the elevated structures while Marephoros shifted part of the eastern burden west and north through the outer framework.
The southern node received a different kind of pressure. Instead of overloading it directly, the regulator reinforced several local relationships that the remaining demonic defenders were still using around the fractured valley, allowing small hostile groups to attack the coalition control teams from better-supported ground. Veridian Prime recognized the change because the roots holding the southern approach began carrying vibration from conduits that had been quiet after the intake fell. The local commander sent that report to Xuanyin and asked whether he should withdraw from the outer platform until the reinforcement ended.
Xuanyin told him to hold the intake and abandon only the unstable ground beyond it. "The regulator is trying to make you spread back into the valley," she said while watching the southern readings. "Keep the specialists inside the stable ring and let the remaining demons come to you." Veridian Prime released several unnecessary root supports, allowing portions of the fractured approach to settle rather than wasting strength preserving terrain the coalition no longer needed.
Tianlan spent the same period moving surface reserves between reinforcement routes. The two healthy Frost Rainbow Falcons remained in wide observation patterns, and he used their senses only when ground reports became uncertain around the broken ridges. One short bond showed him a demonic group moving toward the concealed underground passage from the northern side of the plateau, while another report from Celestara confirmed a smaller force approaching from west. Tianlan released the Falcon's vision and divided his available reserve according to the terrain instead of the raw number of enemies.
The northern group was larger but had to cross a broad exposed route, so he sent enough Blue Sphere and Celestara cultivators to slow it without emptying the center. The western group was smaller but closer to the underground entrance, which made it more dangerous despite its size. Tianlan took a reserve formation there himself, placing his spear across the narrow approach while another coalition Immortal Lord moved beside him. When the officer asked whether they should pursue if the demons withdrew, Tianlan answered, "No. The passage behind us is what matters."
The first western attack confirmed that priority. A demonic Immortal Lord tried to pull Tianlan into a longer duel while several lesser fighters moved around the edge of the formation toward the concealed entrance. Tianlan met the man's heavy sword with the reinforced section of his spear shaft and turned the weapon aside rather than following through with a full counterattack. He then stepped laterally and drove the spear point into the path of the flanking group, forcing them back toward the Blue Sphere formation that had already closed around the route.
Below, Haotian had begun forcing the Demon General away from the station controls one small exchange at a time. He stopped trying to damage the chest every time the fractured plate appeared and instead attacked whatever part of the demon's structure allowed him to remain centered over the regulator relationship. A short palm to the hip forced one stance adjustment, an elbow against the weapon arm delayed the next grip change, and repeated pressure along the shoulder prevented the General from turning the polearm freely without giving ground. None of those actions looked decisive alone, but together they made it harder for the demon to remain exactly where the regulator responded most cleanly.
The General understood what Haotian was doing and tried to reverse the pressure. He stepped forward aggressively, using the long body of the polearm as a lever across Haotian's chest while driving from the legs. Haotian let his body rotate with the push rather than contesting it directly, caught the upper arm with his right hand, and used the same movement to take the General off the direct line toward the controls. The demon struck him across the cheek with the heel of his free hand before the turn completed, reopening the cut near Haotian's brow and sending a fresh line of blood down the side of his face.
Haotian kept the position.
The General tried to recover by pulling the polearm across both bodies, but the weapon had no room for a full cutting arc at that distance. Haotian used his injured left forearm against the shaft despite the pain, keeping the blade outside while his right palm struck beneath the cracked chest plate. The impact entered deeper than the earlier blows because the armor had already begun separating around the damaged section. The General tightened his cultivation through the torso and prevented the strike from reaching anything immediately fatal, but that reinforcement cost him another step.
The second balancing station was now only several yards behind him.
Umbrel scouts had already found a maintenance access on the opposite side of the chamber, and Blue Sphere specialists were waiting for enough separation to enter without being caught between the General and the active controls. Haotian did not signal them forward yet. The General still possessed enough reach to kill a technical cultivator before the formation could react, and rushing the station would make Haotian protect other people instead of continuing to force the demon away.
Xuanyin saw the underground position through the communication formation and changed the outer framework accordingly. She ordered the four captured intakes to accept slightly more local variance rather than demanding constant correction from the first balancing station. North was allowed to rise within its safe limit, east carried a smaller excess through the vertical conduits, west remained low but stable, and south held close to its current level. Reducing how often the outer framework needed active adjustment gave the specialists below more room to take control of the second station once the opportunity appeared.
The regulator tried to exploit that tolerance by pushing another large surge north. This time the northern teams did not immediately ask Xuanyin to move it elsewhere. Marephoros spread the pressure through the broad approach formations, and Blue Sphere opened several receiving paths that had been prepared after the earlier overload. Veridian Prime confirmed that the underlying road structure remained stable, allowing the intake to absorb more than the regulator expected without forcing an emergency redistribution.
West began draining again at the same time. Marephoros slowed the loss, but the intake still approached the lower threshold where its formation relationships would begin weakening. Xuanyin transferred only enough from north to keep west above that point, allowing the outer framework to solve most of the regulator's pressure pattern without repeatedly forcing the first balancing station into large corrections. The captured system was becoming less dependent on exact balance and more capable of surviving temporary differences among its nodes.
The Demon General noticed that the surface response was no longer following the Abyss system's original assumptions. He attempted a larger regulator manipulation while using the polearm to push Haotian back, but the combination forced him into another compromise. The pressure shift beneath the floor became more precise as his weapon sequence simplified, and Haotian stepped through the easier attack before the adjustment could finish. His forearm guided the shaft aside while his right shoulder entered the demon's chest and carried both men beyond the clean center of the control zone.
The General planted one foot and stopped the movement.
Haotian attacked the planted leg rather than the chest.
His heel struck the outside of the knee while his upper body continued controlling the weapon arm, forcing the demon either to surrender the stance or take the full impact through the joint. The General chose movement and stepped away from the regulator-facing position.
Haotian followed immediately.
The polearm came around in a short horizontal line, and Haotian could not avoid all of it without giving back the ground he had gained. He turned enough that the flat and lower edge struck his side instead of entering directly through the ribs. Pain spread beneath the damaged armor, but his right hand remained on the General's arm long enough for him to push the demon farther toward the outer edge of the chamber.
"Go," Haotian said without looking behind him.
The Blue Sphere specialists moved.
Umbrel emerged from the maintenance access at the same time, attacking the remaining demonic formation crews from the opposite side of the second balancing station. The scouts did not try to destroy the controls; they forced the specialists away from them and used Silent Flow — Soundless Crossing to move between platforms before the defenders could reorganize around every point. Marephoros entered behind Blue Sphere and began reducing local pressure wherever a control segment changed hands.
The General tried to turn back.
Haotian caught the weapon arm with both forearms, accepting the sting through the wounded left side, and drove his shoulder under the demon's center before the polearm could regain range. The General struck downward with an elbow, catching Haotian across the cracked shoulder armor and forcing his posture lower. Haotian used that lower position instead of resisting it, shifted his hips, and turned the demon away from the station again.
Blue Sphere reached the first controls.
One demonic specialist attempted to overload the station before losing his position, but an Umbrel cultivator crossed the short gap under Silent Flow and struck his arm before the sequence completed. Another control crew tried to retreat toward the regulator access and found Veridian Prime roots entering through a cracked section of floor ahead of them. The roots were not strong enough to imprison high-level cultivators, but they forced the group to slow and change direction long enough for coalition fighters to intercept.
The second balancing station did not become safe all at once. Blue Sphere secured one control ring while the others remained hostile, and Marephoros had to keep pressure from slamming between captured and uncaptured sections whenever the station tried to correct itself. Veridian Prime checked the physical foundation continuously because the fighting had damaged several outer channels. The coalition took the station in pieces, preserving each functioning relationship before moving to the next.
The Demon General realized he was losing the station before the final control ring fell.
He abandoned his effort to return to the central controls and changed the polearm grip completely, taking the weapon closer to the blade so the remaining shaft could be used almost like a short staff. Haotian recognized the shift as an attempt to make the fight itself more dangerous rather than preserve the station through careful manipulation. The regulator still answered the demon, but the adjustments became broader and less controlled while he concentrated on forcing Haotian away from the specialists.
The weapon struck Haotian's forearm again.
The edge caught near the earlier cut and drove through enough damaged armor to deepen the wound. Haotian withdrew the arm before the blade could travel farther and felt immediately that the hand still moved correctly, though gripping anything tightly with it would now be foolish. He changed his guard so the left arm remained close to his torso and relied more heavily on shoulder contact, elbows, and the right hand for control.
The General tried to exploit the change with another short sequence. The lower shaft struck Haotian's ribs, the blade followed toward his brow, and a body check attempted to drive him back into the specialists entering the station. Haotian redirected the first impact, dipped under the blade, and turned the final collision so the force traveled across his stance instead of directly through it. His right palm reached the cracked chest plate again before the demon could recover.
The General absorbed the blow and answered with a knee toward Haotian's midsection.
Haotian shifted just enough for the strike to glance across his thigh, then hooked the demon's supporting leg with his own while keeping contact at the upper body. The General widened his stance and prevented the throw, but the adjustment exposed the already weakened weapon shoulder. Haotian struck it with his elbow and felt the joint lose part of its stability.
Behind them, the last control ring changed hands.
The Blue Sphere elder overseeing the capture contacted Xuanyin while Marephoros stabilized the station around him. "We have the second station. The regulator is still answering the General, but he no longer has direct station access."
Xuanyin looked across the four outer intake readings and told him, "Keep both stations linked. Do not try to take the regulator until Haotian clears the chamber."
The elder acknowledged and began integrating the captured second station into the outer framework.
For several moments, the network became easier to read.
Both balancing stations now answered to coalition controls, and the four intakes were already sharing burden through Blue Sphere's linked formation relationships. Marephoros smoothed the oscillations between them, while Veridian Prime continued reporting which physical conduits were safe enough to remain active. The regulator beneath those layers still resisted, but it could no longer use the balancing stations as freely as before.
The Demon General felt that loss through the floor.
His next regulator command did not attempt to restore ordinary balance.
Pressure began accumulating beneath the central chamber instead.
Haotian noticed the change through Universe at the same time the Blue Sphere specialists saw their readings climb. The regulator was no longer redistributing burden among the intakes; several relationships were being driven against one another, causing pressure to enter channels already carrying incompatible flow. The station floor trembled beneath their feet as the first balancing structure tried to correct against a second station that was now under coalition control.
Xuanyin received three warnings nearly together.
North reported rising pressure without a corresponding intake command.
West reported a sudden return of burden from a conduit that had been draining for most of the battle.
South reported vibration beneath two buried channels that Veridian Prime had marked as running in different directions.
The Blue Sphere elder at the first station looked toward her and said, "The regulator is contradicting both balancing stations."
Xuanyin understood what the General had chosen.
"He is collapsing it."
The cascade began slowly enough that the coalition could still respond.
The regulator accumulated pressure instead of sending it cleanly toward one intake, then forced that burden into multiple local relationships at once. Several captured conduits began trying to receive and discharge simultaneously, producing oscillations Marephoros had to absorb before they could tear through the formations. Worse, Haotian could feel deeper spatial relationships starting to distort beneath the regulator, threatening to collapse together in a way that would erase whatever network information lay beyond the complex.
The General no longer needed to survive indefinitely.
He only needed the cascade to continue long enough.
Haotian stopped giving him room to manipulate it.
He entered through the next polearm attack before the blade gained full speed, guided the shortened shaft past his side with his right forearm, and struck the damaged weapon shoulder. The General tried to turn the weapon through the contact, but the weakened joint was slower than before and forced him to compensate from the torso. Haotian struck the cracked chest plate immediately afterward.
The demon's cultivation surged beneath the armor.
Haotian felt the reinforcement arrive and changed targets rather than wasting another palm against it. His elbow entered the ribs below the protected section, followed by a short step that placed his shoulder against the General's center. When the demon tried to widen his stance, Haotian attacked the already compromised knee and forced another correction.
The polearm remained dangerous.
The General drove the lower shaft into Haotian's side hard enough to aggravate the shallow wound beneath the armor, then brought the blade across at head height. Haotian ducked inside the cut and felt the edge pass close enough to disturb the hair above his brow. His right hand reached the weapon elbow again and forced it outward before the demon could recover.
The regulator pressure continued rising.
Xuanyin did not tell Haotian to hurry.
She had too much to do herself.
The two balancing stations were already linked through Blue Sphere controls, and she ordered the four intake teams to stop trying to preserve their individual pressure states. "Treat the whole outer system as one receiving formation," she said through the command array. "If north rises, west and east take what they safely can. If south cannot accept more, do not force it just because the numbers look uneven."
Marephoros began spreading the cascade across the entire captured network.
Instead of waiting for one intake to overload before transferring burden away, they moved pressure continuously through several paths, smoothing each oscillation before it became large enough to threaten a structure. Veridian Prime stayed with the physical conduits and closed routes that began showing actual structural failure, even when doing so reduced the coalition's available options. Blue Sphere kept both balancing stations synchronized with those changes so the formation network would not continue sending burden toward a conduit Veridian had already abandoned.
Pyrelith received a different assignment.
Several smaller channels near the first balancing station had begun failing under contradictory pressure, but not all of them still carried useful relationships. Veridian Prime and Blue Sphere identified the ones that had already been isolated from the deeper network, and Pyrelith destroyed only those sections. Each removal reduced the number of unstable paths the cascade could use without sending the burden into something the coalition was still trying to preserve.
Umbrel moved through the control chambers while everyone else worked on pressure.
Demonic survivors had begun trying to sabotage captured plates and manual release mechanisms, hoping to accelerate the failure from inside. The Umbrel cultivators used Veil Shroud — Empty Silhouette where damaged formation light created enough irregularity to hide movement, and Silent Flow — Soundless Crossing carried them between exposed platforms without giving every saboteur time to react. They protected the controls rather than pursuing retreating enemies deeper toward the regulator.
Celestara held the surface.
The cascade caused several elevated structures in the east to destabilize, forcing the aerial formations to clear people away from platforms that no longer needed to be occupied. At the same time, surviving demonic units tried to exploit the confusion by moving across the upper ridges toward weaker intake sectors. Celestara intercepted those movements early enough that the ground teams could remain focused on keeping the network intact.
Tianlan coordinated the surface reserves among those changes.
He used one brief Falcon bond to confirm a movement behind the northern ridge, released the perspective, and sent a reserve formation toward it without leaving the center himself. The other healthy Falcon remained farther east, watching the aerial routes around the unstable platforms. The third bird remained well behind the front with the recovery formations and had no role in the crisis.
Below, Haotian finally broke the Demon General's ability to recover his preferred stance.
The demon tried to create distance with a heavy body shove while using the polearm shaft across Haotian's chest. Haotian yielded enough to keep the blade from becoming useful, then stepped diagonally instead of straight back and caught the weakened weapon arm between his forearm and shoulder. The General twisted free before the joint could be fully controlled, but the movement exposed his chest and placed too much weight on the damaged leg.
Haotian struck the knee first.
The General's stance dropped.
Haotian's palm entered the fractured chest plate a moment later.
The demon reinforced instinctively, but the circulation there had already been interrupted several times during the fight and could no longer settle as cleanly as before. Haotian felt the resistance break unevenly through his hand.
The General still did not fall.
He released one hand from the polearm and struck Haotian across the brow, opening the cut there farther and forcing his head sideways. The weapon followed immediately, but the weakened shoulder slowed the transition enough that Haotian recovered before the blade could enter cleanly. He caught the shaft near the demon's hand with his right forearm and drove forward again.
The fight had reduced both of them to the range where the polearm offered fewer advantages.
Haotian attacked the General's structure rather than searching for a dramatic final technique. His shoulder prevented the demon from recovering distance, his right hand repeatedly controlled the weapon elbow, and his legs kept pressure on the damaged knee whenever the General tried to root himself. Each short strike entered a place already weakened by previous exchanges.
The General attempted one last strong regulator command.
Haotian felt the cultivation move downward before the pressure reached the floor.
He struck the weapon shoulder first.
The arm dropped slightly.
A palm entered the chest.
The General's cultivation faltered.
Haotian followed through the same opening before the demon could rebuild it, driving another short palm into the damaged armor while his shoulder took away the remaining balance.
The General's back struck the edge of the station platform.
He tried to raise the polearm.
The injured arm failed to recover fast enough.
Haotian struck beneath the sternum and disrupted the already unstable circulation behind the fractured plate.
The Demon General's cultivation collapsed inward.
Haotian kept contact long enough to make sure the demon could not use the fall to create another regulator command, then released him and stepped away. The polearm struck the stone beside its owner, and the General's body followed a moment later. No Sovereign Fang Collapse or Creator's Banishment was necessary; the fight ended through the accumulated damage Haotian had built across the demon's stance, weapon arm, chest protection, and cultivation circulation since the beginning of their engagement.
The regulator continued collapsing.
The Demon General's death removed his direct control but did nothing to reverse the cascade he had already started. Contradictory pressure remained trapped inside the central system, and several deeper relationships continued drawing toward one another as the regulator lost the ability to distinguish what should remain separate. Haotian turned away from the body before anyone could mistake the end of the duel for the end of the crisis.
He reached the regulator access while the Blue Sphere specialists were still trying to stabilize both balancing stations.
The deeper structure occupied a broad chamber beneath them, its central formation ring built around several layers of conduits descending into the plateau. Haotian could feel the spatial relationships folding through one another even before he reached the control boundary. Some led back toward the captured intakes, others connected the two balancing stations, and several extended farther beyond the complex.
He opened the Dao Palace of the Universe fully enough to hold those relationships apart.
The Law of Equilibrium entered the work with it.
He did not use the Heaven Sundering Trinity Scripture because the problem did not require the three Dao Palaces to operate simultaneously. Universe gave him the spatial structure, while Equilibrium allowed him to prevent one collapsing relationship from dragging another into the same failure. The coalition still had to carry the physical pressure itself.
Xuanyin understood that immediately from the changes on the command map.
The deeper relationships stopped collapsing into one another, but the burden inside the regulator remained.
She told Blue Sphere to maintain synchronization between the two captured balancing stations while Marephoros kept the pressure moving through the outer framework. Veridian Prime continued closing conduits that had become physically unsafe, and Pyrelith removed only those already isolated from useful relationships.
The regulator shuddered beneath Haotian.
Pressure moved north.
Marephoros accepted it.
A second oscillation tried to rebound toward west.
The first balancing station redirected part of it east.
South took only a limited share because Veridian Prime had already restricted one damaged conduit.
The outer framework held.
Haotian concentrated on keeping the deeper spatial relationships from folding across one another.
The network beyond the convergence complex reacted.
The first remote severance came from the north-east.
Haotian felt the relationship narrow suddenly at a point well beyond the regulator, then collapse inward from the far side before the coalition could interact with whatever lay beyond it. He did not try to prevent the severance; doing so would have required forcing a remote connection to remain open against an unknown structure. Instead, he followed the direction, folding pattern, and final pressure state until the relationship disappeared.
"North-east is gone," he told Xuanyin.
She marked the direction immediately. "Did you keep enough to follow it later?"
"The direction and fold, yes. The connection itself is finished."
A smaller eastern relationship began severing next.
Haotian allowed it to die as well, preserving only what could still be learned from the way it collapsed. The remote network was cutting compromised links deliberately rather than allowing the coalition to use the regulator as an open path inward. Xuanyin did not order anyone to fight those severances, because keeping a doomed relationship alive for a few more breaths was worth less than recording how the deeper system had been connected.
The northern relationship remained.
It did not stay quiet.
Pressure returned through it in a series of controlled responses as though something beyond the regulator were testing whether the local complex could still answer. Xuanyin saw the pattern and realized they still had a short period in which the preserved regulator could be used as an intelligence source.
She moved toward the captured station controls rather than asking Haotian to do everything from the central chamber. "I am going to change the outer pressure," she told him through the communication formation. "Tell me which deeper relationship answers."
Haotian maintained Universe around the regulator. "Keep the changes small. The central structure is stable enough to read, not healthy enough to abuse."
Xuanyin began with north.
She increased apparent demand through the intake while Blue Sphere kept the actual local burden within the safe range. The regulator tried to respond automatically, and the remaining northern relationship carried a faint signal deeper before returning a correction. Haotian followed the response and felt something broader react beyond the severed north-eastern and eastern lines.
Xuanyin changed west next.
The deeper response was weaker.
South produced another pattern.
East produced another.
The northern relationship reacted most strongly when the coalition altered several nodes in combination.
The Blue Sphere elders copied every sequence.
What emerged was larger than one surviving route.
The regulator had been connected to several major convergence complexes across Blue Sphere World, not merely the outer feeder systems the coalition had already dismantled. Haotian could distinguish at least three additional large structures through the response patterns, although two were already severing enough local relationships that he could not map their full arrangement. One lay generally north, another north-east beyond the route that had already died, and a third farther east.
Xuanyin compared the strength of the returning signals.
"The northern one is answering every time."
Haotian followed another response. "It is carrying more of the remaining coordination."
"Does that make it the next layer?"
"Not necessarily. It makes it the strongest connection we still have."
Xuanyin accepted the distinction.
She continued testing only long enough to compare the surviving major relationships. The other convergence complexes appeared to feed toward a smaller number of shared deeper routes, and those deeper paths bent in directions consistent with the broader Main Rift network the coalition had been trying to expose since the beginning of the campaign. None was clear enough yet to give them the Main Rift itself, but the architecture was narrowing.
The remote network recognized the interrogation.
The northern relationship began changing.
This time it did not sever immediately.
Pressure drained away in stages, and several control responses disappeared one after another instead of all at once.
Xuanyin looked at the pattern and frowned. "They are dismantling something."
Haotian followed the weakening route. "Yes. From their side."
The northern complex was not simply closing a single connection.
It appeared to be reducing its outer functions in sequence while transferring useful burden and control farther inward.
That gave the coalition a direction.
It did not give them unlimited time.
Xuanyin stopped the tests before the compromised regulator failed under another deliberate manipulation. The coalition had already recorded the three major convergence responses, the northern route's stronger relationship, and enough of the deeper folding pattern to know that multiple regional complexes were feeding toward shared inner architecture. Keeping the regulator active longer would only risk the battlefield they had spent the day preserving.
Controlled dismantling began from the center outward.
Blue Sphere first emptied the regulator of as much remaining local burden as possible through the two balancing stations. Marephoros spread the release across the four intakes in measured stages while Veridian Prime monitored every physical conduit for heat, vibration, or movement that suggested structural failure. Haotian continued holding the deeper spatial relationships apart until each active local path could be closed without dragging another one with it.
The second balancing station shut down first.
Its remaining burden moved through the first station rather than directly into the intakes, allowing Blue Sphere to regulate the final release more carefully. Once the controls went dark and Veridian confirmed that no physical conduit was still drawing through it, Pyrelith destroyed the hardened parts that could not safely be left behind. The station's central ring fractured inward without affecting the regulator below.
The first balancing station followed.
By then the regulator itself had been emptied enough that Haotian could release the spatial relationships one at a time instead of holding the whole structure together. Xuanyin had Blue Sphere close the station's outer controls in sequence, while Marephoros carried the final transfers into north, west, south, and east according to each intake's remaining capacity. Veridian Prime severed several buried physical conduits only after their formation relationships had already ended.
The regulator was dismantled next.
Haotian allowed the final local spatial fold to close after confirming that the northern direction had been copied into both formation records and his own perception. Pyrelith broke the central hardened housing only after the structure no longer carried pressure or useful network relationships. The chamber shook under the destruction, but nothing discharged into the deeper network.
The four intakes were emptied last.
North took the longest because it had accepted the greatest share of the final burden, while west had to be shut down carefully so its already weakened relationships did not collapse into neighboring conduits. South required Veridian to hold several fractured channels until the last pressure passed, and east remained tied to the elevated platforms until Blue Sphere closed those vertical relationships in proper order. Pyrelith destroyed each hardened structure only after the local specialists confirmed it had become isolated.
By the time the final intake went dark, the convergence complex no longer carried Abyss pressure.
The coalition still had to clear surviving defenders from the surrounding plateau, but those battles were smaller and increasingly disconnected. Celestara kept the ridges and air routes closed, Umbrel searched maintenance passages for saboteurs or hidden demolition controls, and the surface legions reduced isolated enemy groups without allowing them to escape toward the newly identified northern route. Tianlan continued directing reserves until the last major movement behind the central ridge stopped.
He returned to the command area after sunset.
The two healthy Frost Rainbow Falcons descended nearby and remained on the ridge rather than returning immediately to the air. Tianlan walked to Xuanyin with dried blood on one sleeve and asked whether the deeper route had survived long enough to give them anything useful. She told him that the northern relationship had lasted longer than the others and was already showing signs of deliberate withdrawal.
"Are they abandoning another complex?" he asked.
"Maybe," Xuanyin said. "Or stripping it before we arrive."
Haotian joined them after leaving the regulator chamber.
His left forearm was still bleeding enough that the healer waiting near command took one look and reached for him before he could examine the latest scouting map. She removed the damaged armor around the cut, cleaned the wound, and checked the movement of his fingers before closing and binding it. The blade had gone deeper during the last part of the fight but had missed both bone and major tendon.
The wound along his side required less work.
The healer cleaned it, closed the shallow cut, and checked the bruising beneath the armor before wrapping the area tightly enough to protect it without restricting his breathing. The cracked shoulder armor was removed so another healer could examine the joint underneath, finding heavy bruising but nothing that prevented movement. When Haotian tried to turn back toward the map before they finished cleaning the cut near his brow, the first healer caught his chin and told him, "You can look at the battlefield after I stop blood from running into your eye."
He allowed her to finish.
Xuanyin continued working while he was treated.
Umbrel ground scouts were already being assigned along the northern route, while Celestara prepared a wider aerial reconnaissance above the ridges and Veridian Prime assembled terrain teams capable of following buried conduits even if the visible formations had been dismantled. The main army would not move until the wounded were rotated, damaged formation plates replaced, and enough fresh teams brought forward to avoid entering another major complex with exhausted specialists.
The first northern reports arrived before that reorganization was complete.
Umbrel scouts found abandoned outer control points along the route, several of them emptied rather than destroyed. Celestara saw organized demonic movement farther north, but the troops were not forming a defensive line around the next complex. They were leaving it in stages.
Veridian Prime confirmed the same pattern through the ground.
Pressure was moving inward.
Outer conduits were being emptied.
Several physical channels had already been cut behind the withdrawing formations.
Xuanyin placed the reports beside the regulator records.
"They know we can read the network now."
Haotian looked at the northern route. "Then they are removing it before we reach them."
Tianlan rested one hand against the shaft of his spear while the two Falcons remained quiet behind him. "How much of it is left?"
"Enough that the scouts are still following a live relationship," Xuanyin said. "But it is disappearing from the outside inward."
Haotian examined the surviving direction through the Dao Palace of the Universe without reaching farther than the weakened relationship allowed. The next convergence complex was still there, but its outer structures were being deliberately emptied, disconnected, and abandoned while stronger relationships continued farther inside. The Abyss was no longer waiting for the coalition to arrive and dismantle each layer under controlled conditions.
Xuanyin ordered the scouts to keep contact without committing themselves to a pursuit they could not support. Umbrel would follow the ground withdrawal, Celestara would watch the larger troop movement, and Veridian Prime would record every conduit that remained active long enough to reveal where the burden was being transferred. Behind them, the main coalition began reorganizing for movement north while the last fires from the destroyed convergence complex faded across the plateau.
Haotian remained with the command group after the healers finished binding his wounds. The northern relationship continued weakening in his perception, not because it had failed naturally but because someone farther ahead was dismantling it with deliberate order. By the time the first fresh legions began moving toward the ridge, the scouts had already confirmed that the next complex was being stripped from the outside inward, leaving the coalition to decide how deeply it could pursue before the route disappeared completely.
