Big Team Rookie POV
I waited for my teammate to get back as I was just recently taken out of the cage. During the wait, I looked around at so many weak and middle-of-the-pack teams here. The team I'm on qualified for the premier last year, they didn't do that well there, that's why they added a bunch of talented vets and rookies like me this offseason. We're back now and we're looking to make an impact this year. They made a good hire too as I was one of the fastest young talents in New Zealand.
Now everyone in Australia and Oceania will know the name Sea Diver at the end of this race. I watched my senior Turtle Buster run lead off and as soon as I got on the field I watched the big screen to track when she'd be back. I did not expect to see one of the greatest agility performances I've ever seen. The crowd reacted to what they were seeing as that person got here so fast that the person she handed the baton to calmly just grabbed it and ran. I finally got the baton trying to catch up to the opponent's 2nd leg runner.
I was in such a rush I didn't see my senior's face as I took off. I was running ahead of everyone passing those ahead of me I saw. Still, I couldn't find where the 2nd leg runner of the team I saw earlier. I might have passed her already. I just excitedly ran as I heard an amazing cheer halfway through. They must be cheering for my glory hmph.
I arrived soon after that as I shoved the baton to my distracted senior snapping her out of it and me telling her," Girl run!" She with a confused face for some reason began running as fast as she could. I then walked to the dugout and saw that everyone was silent. I asked everyone," What's going on why is everyone quiet we're in the lead aren't we?" My team stared at me like I was stupid and my coach yelled at me saying," Lead? Diver look at the fucking screen!"
I was startled and did just that and soon my face turned white. We weren't in the lead we were a far second place. I saw that the person ahead of me broke the 2nd leg league and world record. The cheers I heard earlier weren't cheers for me it was her breaking the record as we were literally only halfway through that leg of the race. Holy shit what monster did I just run against?
Mama Blues POV
Oh my, Rose made quick work of them didn't she? She soon arrived very quickly and I took the baton calmly. Soon I turned around and my old instincts awoke. It's been so long since it's awoken that I had believed it to be dead. Mama's back baby.
I ran fast hunting down the world record as I did decades ago. Before motherhood, before love, before I had given up everything thanks to injuries. Now with a body able to surpass any human male or female I run faster. I kept going not caring who was behind me or how fast I was going. Any thoughts on pacing myself were out the window as I knew what I could do and now I wanted to see if I could go beyond.
Faster, faster to the point where there was no sound anymore only the field. The finish line came close and there I saw GW standing there looking at my soul with no fear. The state alone made me calm down. I remembered that this was a relay. I extended my hand and held it out waiting for her to grab the baton.
Instead, she moved aside grabbed the baton, and expertly caught me. Flipped me over 360 degrees and stood me up stopping me like an expert. How did she do that? She soon ran at a speed I didn't know she could run at and left. That's when it hit me intense cheers from the crowd.
I look at everyone cheering Vice Captain Cobalt or some variation of it. I looked at the big screen to see my time, and I was speechless. It read 2nd leg league and world record broken. I also placed on the board as the second fastest on mile turf and other placings in league and world record lists. Damn, today is a good day after all.
I soon got out of the field so Lily could finally get out of the cage. There my team was waiting for me in celebration. They were happy for me and soon Rose came to greet me. She asked," How was your run Vice Captain?" I responded, smiling at her," Wonderful."
