Chapter 391 - Chapter 391: The Support Fleet

"You've mastered the Space Law to a much higher degree than I expected," Silvermoon said seriously as she analyzed the results of their spar. "You're still at the beginner stage, but your application is incredibly refined. It's obvious you've tested it extensively in real combat."

"Your Moon Law isn't bad either. Especially that Moonlight Guardian technique. Its defensive power is impressive," Rowan replied with equal sincerity. "And your overall combat rhythm has become much more mature. Compared to six months ago, you're in an entirely different league."

"This mission taught me a lot," Silvermoon said thoughtfully. "That ancient civilization had a profound understanding of the Moon Law. I gained quite a bit of inspiration from their ruins."

"Looks like we both came back with valuable gains," Rowan said with satisfaction. "That makes me feel much more confident about tomorrow's mission."

"Speaking of tomorrow, do you know what the assignment is?" Silvermoon asked. "Dr. Leon only said it was important. He didn't reveal any details."

"I don't know either," Rowan admitted. "But if they specifically need both of us, it's probably some kind of exploration or investigation mission. With our current strength, we should be able to handle most situations."

"I hope it's something interesting," Silvermoon said eagerly. "I've been stuck in the laboratory for so long that a little adventure sounds refreshing."

Rowan laughed.

"So you have an adventurous side too."

"Of course. Though I know the dangers out there are far greater than anything inside a research facility."

"That's true."

Silvermoon smiled confidently.

"But with a partner as capable as you, I feel pretty secure. Especially now that you've begun mastering the Space Law. Our teamwork should be even better than before."

"Without a doubt," Rowan replied. "We've always worked well together. Whatever mission comes our way, we'll complete it successfully."

The two continued chatting for a while, exchanging stories and insights from their recent journeys.

Silvermoon was particularly fascinated by Rowan's experience in the Mist Forbidden Zone and the mysterious ancient ruins hidden within it.

Meanwhile, Rowan was equally curious about the civilization relics Silvermoon had discovered during her own mission.

Eventually, Silvermoon glanced at the time.

"It's getting late. We should get some rest. We have the meeting tomorrow, and we'll need to be in top condition."

"Agreed." Rowan rose from his seat. "Today's spar gave me a whole new perspective on your abilities."

"And tomorrow's mission should be a lot smoother because of it."

Silvermoon stood as well.

"See you tomorrow, then."

"See you."

"I hope this mission helps both of us grow even stronger."

With that, they left the training facility and returned to their respective residences.

Early the next morning, Rowan arrived at the company's Mission Assignment Center.

The facility was a vast conference hall.

A massive holographic map of the Milky Way stretched across the wall, displaying countless stars that represented planets, civilizations, and political factions throughout known space.

Silvermoon was already there.

She wore the company's formal uniform today, giving her an appearance that was both professional and elegant.

"Good morning, Rowan."

She greeted him with a warm smile.

"Sleep well?"

"Very well," Rowan replied as he took a seat beside her. "Yesterday's sparring session boosted my confidence."

"What about you?"

Silvermoon rested her chin lightly on one hand.

"I have a feeling today's mission is going to be interesting."

"Oh?"

"Just a feeling. But something tells me this won't be an ordinary assignment."

Before Rowan could respond, the conference room doors opened.

A middle-aged man entered.

His gaze was sharp and commanding.

Even among the elite researchers of the Virtual Universe Company, he carried an unmistakable aura of authority.

This was Claude, their department director.

"Good morning, Rowan. Silvermoon."

Claude walked toward the conference table.

"I'm pleased to see both of you arrived on time."

He activated the holographic projector.

A three-dimensional star system immediately appeared above the table.

"Today, I have a special mission for the two of you."

"What kind of mission?" Rowan asked directly.

Claude enlarged the projection.

The system contained a single star and eight planets.

Two of those planets were highlighted.

"This is the Tana Star System," Claude began.

"It lies on the outer edge of the galaxy, approximately three thousand light-years from our headquarters."

The image zoomed closer.

"Tana Prime and Tana Secundus are the only inhabited planets in the system."

Tana Prime was a blue world dominated by oceans, with relatively little landmass.

Tana Secundus, by contrast, was a continental planet covered by mountain ranges and vast plains.

Silvermoon studied the projection.

"What seems to be the problem?"

"A very serious one."

Claude's expression darkened.

"Three months ago, a major conflict erupted between the two planets."

"The trigger?"

"A small asteroid rich in rare minerals."

He highlighted a floating asteroid between the two worlds.

"Tana Secundus discovered it first and claimed ownership."

"However, Tana Prime insists that an ancient interplanetary treaty places the asteroid within their territorial boundaries."

"Sounds like a typical resource dispute," Rowan observed.

"It would be," Claude replied, "if it had remained that simple."

He enlarged another set of data.

"Both civilizations are technologically underdeveloped by galactic standards."

"Roughly equivalent to Earth's early twenty-first century."

"However, both possess nuclear weapons and limited spacefaring capabilities."

Silvermoon's face grew serious.

"Please don't tell me they're preparing for nuclear war."

"They're dangerously close."

Claude nodded.

"Last month, a fleet from Tana Secundus attempted to seize the asteroid by force."

"Tana Prime's defense forces repelled them."

"Both sides suffered casualties."

"Since then, tensions have escalated rapidly."

The holographic display shifted to battle footage.

Primitive warships exchanged laser fire around the asteroid.

Missiles streaked through the darkness of space.

Though technologically crude, the conflict itself was fierce.

"The worst part," Claude continued, "is that both governments are preparing for a final confrontation."

"Tana Prime has threatened a nuclear strike against the capital of Tana Secundus."

"Tana Secundus is mobilizing its entire military in response."

Silence filled the room.

"If full-scale war breaks out," Rowan said at last, "both civilizations could destroy themselves."

"Exactly."

Claude folded his arms.

"It's a regional conflict in a remote system, but the Virtual Universe Company has always been committed to preserving stability throughout civilized space."

"We cannot stand by and watch two worlds annihilate each other."

Silvermoon nodded.

"So our mission is mediation?"

"Correct."

Claude confirmed.

"The company is dispatching diplomatic representatives to the Tana System."

"Your objective is to convince both sides to resolve their dispute through peaceful negotiations."

Rowan frowned.

"Then why send only the two of us?"

"Diplomatic operations usually involve larger teams."

"That's precisely why we're sending you," Claude replied.

"These civilizations have limited exposure to advanced galactic powers."

"If we arrive with a fleet, they'll likely interpret it as an invasion."

"That would only make matters worse."

Silvermoon understood immediately.

"A small team is less threatening."

"Exactly."

Claude nodded approvingly.

"You both possess extensive field experience."

"You're powerful enough to handle emergencies."

"And most importantly, your teamwork is exceptional."

"In a diplomatic mission, trust between partners is invaluable."

Rowan studied the twin planets.

"How exactly do we proceed?"

"The mission has three phases."

A detailed operational plan appeared.

"First, you'll enter the Tana System covertly."

"Gather intelligence."

"Determine the true causes of the conflict."

"Identify the priorities and limits of both governments."

The display shifted to show flight routes and timelines.

"Then?" Silvermoon asked.

"Second, you'll establish contact with the leaders of both worlds."

"You'll present yourselves as representatives of a neutral galactic peace organization."

"Your goal is to initiate formal negotiations."

"This phase is critical."

"You must demonstrate both sincerity and capability."

"They need to believe you can help solve the crisis."

Rowan raised another question.

"And if they refuse to negotiate?"

Claude's expression hardened.

"Then we move to Phase Three."

"If peaceful persuasion fails, you're authorized to employ nonviolent deterrence."

"You mean a demonstration of power?" Silvermoon asked.

"Exactly."

Claude nodded.

"Not military threats."

"A demonstration of what advanced civilization is capable of."

"For societies at their technological level, even the abilities of Star-Level warriors are enough to shatter their understanding of reality."

"When they realize how vast the universe truly is, they may reconsider the value of war."

A smile appeared on Rowan's face.

"This mission is becoming more interesting by the minute."

"Diplomacy, investigation, and a chance to showcase our abilities."

"Don't underestimate it," Claude warned.

"Less advanced civilizations are often the most unpredictable."

"Fear can drive them to irrational actions."

"So can fanaticism."

"We'll handle it carefully," Silvermoon assured him.

"When do we leave?"

"This afternoon."

Claude brought up another file.

"The company has prepared a stealth reconnaissance vessel."

"It can avoid detection by the Tana System's sensor networks."

"The journey will take approximately one week."

"A week is plenty of time," Rowan said.

"We can finalize our strategy during the voyage."

"There are also several special requirements."

Claude switched to another document.

"First, avoid revealing the true power of the Virtual Universe Company whenever possible."

"Our technological advantage is overwhelming."

"Exposing it directly could create unnecessary panic."

Silvermoon tilted her head.

"Then who are we supposed to be?"

"Representatives of the Galactic Peace Organization."

Claude smiled slightly.

"It carries authority without being intimidating."

"We've already prepared identities, credentials, and supporting records."

"Second, if possible, uncover the real reason behind the conflict."

Claude highlighted several intelligence reports.

"Our analysts believe the asteroid alone isn't enough to justify a war of this magnitude."

"There may be hidden forces involved."

"Or perhaps historical grievances resurfacing."

"In any case, the truth is almost certainly more complicated than it appears."

"We'll investigate thoroughly," Rowan promised.

"Anything else?"

Claude's expression became exceptionally serious.

"One final point."

"The most important point."

"No matter what happens, prevent the destruction of those two civilizations."

"Even if negotiations fail."

"Even if everything goes wrong."

"You must stop a nuclear war from happening."

Silvermoon answered without hesitation.

"We understand."

"Protecting civilization is our responsibility."

Claude nodded with satisfaction.

"Good."

"I believe you're both capable of completing this mission."

"Any further questions?"

Rowan thought for a moment.

"The disputed asteroid."

"How valuable is it really?"

"Valuable enough to justify a war?"

"That's another mystery."

Claude displayed a mineral analysis report.

"The asteroid does contain rare resources."

"But its value isn't extraordinary."

"With their current technology, both civilizations could easily develop it jointly through cooperation or trade."

Silvermoon frowned.

"Then why are they willing to go to war over it?"

"That's exactly what you're being sent to discover."

Claude tapped the report.

"Someone may be manipulating events from behind the scenes."

"Or perhaps old wounds are reopening."

"Whatever the reason, this conflict is deeper than it appears."

Rowan and Silvermoon exchanged a glance.

Both could already sense the complexity hidden beneath the surface.

"One more question," Rowan said.

"If we encounter a situation beyond our control?"

"These planets still possess functioning militaries."

"Your safety comes first."

Claude's answer was immediate.

"If you encounter a threat you cannot handle, withdraw immediately and request assistance."

"We have a support fleet deployed in a nearby star region."

"They can intervene if necessary."

"Understood," Silvermoon replied.

"In that case, we'll begin preparing our equipment and mission materials."

"Wait."

Claude stopped them as they turned to leave.

"One last thing."

"The success of this operation is important to the company's reputation."

"If you can successfully resolve this conflict, it will demonstrate that the Virtual Universe Company is not only a leader in science and military strength, but also a guardian of peace throughout the galaxy."

"We won't let the company down," Rowan said confidently.

"Good."

Claude rose from his chair.

"Report to Hangar Three at two o'clock this afternoon."

"I wish you both success."

The meeting ended.

Rowan and Silvermoon left the conference hall and began preparing for their upcoming assignment.

As they walked through the corridor, Silvermoon glanced at him.

"What do you think about this mission?"

"It's challenging," Rowan replied.

"Diplomatic operations are completely different from combat missions."

"They require patience, judgment, and a lot more subtlety."

"True."

Silvermoon laughed softly.

"And we're supposed to play the role of mediators from the Galactic Peace Organization."

"It almost feels like we're actors preparing for a performance."

Rowan chuckled.

"Let's just hope the audience is willing to listen."
