"An incomplete skill? And it's called an ancient skill on top of that. Does being Ancient mean that it's extremely powerful or that it's really old? What secrets does this skill have?"
Chronos's imagination ran wild when he saw the skill. He had never seen a skill that lacked a rank and was simply called Ancient.
Selecting yes, he was shown a skill that he couldn't think of as incomplete in any way. If anything, it was so powerful that he wondered if he should be looking at it right now.
[Void Moon]:
Rank: Unranked
Type: Summoning/Domain
Potential: Evolvable
Description: Summons a void moon's image from the void causing various effects within its domain. This summoning creates a stable corridor between the void moon and the physical world resulting in numerous powerful effects.
Caution:While the corridor connecting to the void moon allows one to transfer the power of the moon it may attract other powerful void creatures to the caster's location and allow them to enter the world.
Effect one: Predator Beneath the Moon: The moon's pressure interacts directly with instinct. Creatures hostile to the caster instinctively perceive the caster as something extraordinarily dangerous. The greater their hostility toward the caster, the stronger the sensation becomes.
Effect two: Moonfrost: The air rapidly freezes and frost spreads across the terrain, prolonged exposure to the frost will slowly encase the creatures in the affected area in ice. This ice isn't ordinary ice. Living Void permeates the ice, allowing it to freeze energy alongside physical matter. Aura and magic become sluggish within heavily frozen areas, and energy constructs can gradually become "frozen" and brittle. Unlike Pure Void, it doesn't erase them.
Effect three: Unknown
Effect four: Void-Touched Territory: As the connection strengthens, the area beneath the moon begins partially resembling conditions within the Void. Temperature falls, sound becomes strangely distant, frost forms without moisture, and spatial or magical disturbances become more noticeable. Other Living Void skills become slightly easier to manifest within this territory because the caster doesn't have to bridge quite as great a divide between the world and the Void.
Effect five: Unknown
Effect six: Unknown
Note: All six effects have been confirmed to exist by the system, but the specifics of three skills are unknown.
Caution:While the corridor connecting to the void moon allows one to transfer the power of the moon it may attract other powerful void creatures to the caster's location and allow them to enter the world.
This skill was amazing and Chronos lay there in shock at how powerful it could be. Many living void skills involved summoning creatures or power from the void, which was both difficult and energy intensive, if the fourth effect could really make that process easier than a single caster could become a one-man army.
What's worse was that nearly every void creature was a powerful being having reached the third rank at the minimum.
This wasn't taking into account the other known effects that could change entire battlefields or destroy whole noble territories, but that warning really worried Chronos.
Looking at the first and second effects of [Void Moon] he couldn't help noticing that they were nearly identical to [Cold-Moon Pressure]. And that summoning method of calling on the moon's image was strangely similar to his clan's records of a moon appearing above someone that had mastered [Cold-Moon Pressure].
Maybe his clan had once known [Void Moon] but had created a weaker version due to the risk of a void creature entering the corridor and killing the caster?
Since the system thought it was important enough to say the warning twice then he would have to be extremely careful if he ever used this skill.
"System, how much does this skill cost?" Wanting to purchase it in the future he couldn't help asking the system for more information.
{As it is an incomplete skill with dangerous side effects it is not available for purchase.
However, if it was to be purchased based on its current abilities it would be placed in the upper end of intermediate grade skills. That is 300-365 points.}
Chronos stared at the screen slack jawed, shocked that just half of its abilities would already make it that expensive.
But the more he thought about it the more it made sense.
Intermediate grade skills could roughly be separated into two categories. Skills that had a single powerful effect, allowing it to be used in various ways, and skills that had multiple weaker effects for a broader range of abilities.
The [Void Moon] skill clearly fell into the latter category.
On the other hand, a skill like [Rift Spear] had one powerful effect, cutting through space, that allowed it to strike over great distances or strike multiple positions at once but fundamentally it was still just the one effect of cutting through space.
Chronos hesitated for a few seconds before asking something he wasn't sure he wanted the answer to.
"System, how much would [Void Moon] cost if it was complete?"
{It's impossible to know the exact price as the effects of ancient skills vary greatly from skill to skill. However, the price can be estimated based off of current effects, assuming that the remaining unknown effects are more powerful, the corresponding price would naturally be significantly higher.
Estimated needed points: 900 minimum}
Chronos stared at the price that had tripled. Clearly this skill was one of those high-grade skills that Hrólmir had hinted at in his welcoming message. He calmly closed the screen knowing that he wouldn't have access to such a skill for a long time yet.
Having recovered enough, Chronos went back to practicing his new [Void Ice] skill, not wanting to think about what he had just learned.
At least his training was paying off as the first time he cast it he was able to create a near perfect sphere that hovered above his hand.
He smiled as he started the next training of making a line in the sphere while he was holding it. If he could do that without breaking the sphere he could be considered to have reached the novice level of mastery.
