Looking through the living void skills, he found an inferior version of the [Abyssal Void Ice] skill along with an inferior version of the [True Void Flame] skill.
[Void Ice]: Create ice around a speck of living void power. The ice freezes anything that touches it while absorbing heat and energy and can be used as a long-range or close-range attack. Any power used to break or melt the ice is partially consumed forming new ice until the power of void is used up or the living void speck is destroyed. It will not freeze the caster.
[Void Flame]: Create a black flame with the power of living void. It consumes matter and energy to continue burning and can be used as a long-range or close-range attack, but the flame can be smothered with enough energy or matter. It will not burn the caster.
Compared to the pure void skills, these skills' usability and cost were much better, and most importantly, they could be used to destroy the miasma while creating his [Rift Spear].
They might even apply special effects to the spear.
They were on the high end of beginner living void skills costing 50 points each but that was fine with Chronos.
After tallying the points he received from clearing the tear along with what he received for his daily activities he would have enough points to buy one of them.
But he was still a long way off from buying the [Rift Spear] skill that would form the core of his new weapon. If he couldn't afford the skill in time, he would have to destroy the spear he wanted to use as material for it.
Which would be a real shame as the mutated metal was much stronger and more receptive to energy than any other metal Chronos had seen.
Perhaps that was one of the traps of the devil race. They would provide great power and items making it look like they were doing you a favor while corrupting you until you were just a slave like they were.
Chronos had to admit that it was a good trap, even though he was considering using the spear himself but only after he had purged the miasma from it. That way he wouldn't be corrupted by the power of the miasma.
Now he just needed to decide which skill he would purchase to cleanse the spear.
The fire skill was powerful and aggressive. It would allow him to remove the miasma and possibly further refine the spear, but it looked hard to control and Chronos wasn't sure he had enough time to practice using it before he needed to cleanse the miasma.
On the other hand, the ice skill was much gentler and easier to use. It also matched the natural effects of the void, but it lacked the ability to refine his spear further and there was a chance it wouldn't be able to fully cleanse the miasma from the spear.
Although the two skills results were very similar the small differences would change how he used the spear in combat.
With the fire skill refining the spear he could be more aggressive against his enemies while the ice skill would force him to fight a bit slower but was more stable. And this wasn't considering directly using the skills on his enemies.
While he was pondering on what skill to purchase, the world around him suddenly shifted and he found himself in a layer filled with golden divine energy and laws that resonated in his ears. He blinked in confusion then he was back in the physical world.
"What just happened?" he muttered.
"That's what I want to know, you vanished for a few seconds and then came back." Gregory's voice came from his right as he grabbed Chronos's shoulder making sure that he didn't disappear on him again.
Chronos turned to him even more confused as he hadn't sensed Gregory's presence until he had spoken. No, he still couldn't sense him.
Looking around he saw Lyla practicing across the room surrounded by golden light with several laws from that strange layer floating around her.
Before he got lost in his thoughts Gregory spoke up again, "Chronos, what happened?"
Chronos opened his mouth hesitating for a few seconds before he responded.
"The world shifted and then I was in another layer, I think it was related to the divine due to all of the laws and the type of power there." he gulped as a dangerous thought came to mind. "I think I'm losing control of my bloodline and it's causing me to enter other layers at random."
"What?.... Are you going to vanish one of these days?" Gregory asked in worry.
While his best friend might be annoying at times, he didn't want him to disappear forever.
"Not yet. I can still maintain my connection to the physical world, and I have a few skills that can help me return but if this keeps happening, I might not be able to come back one day."
Gregory looked stressed, opening and closing his mouth a few times. He had wanted to be upset with Chronos but that wouldn't help their current situation, and it didn't sound like he had any control over it either.
Taking a deep breath to calm down he asked, "What do we do about this?"
"I don't know." Chronos shook his head.
This whole mess was beyond anything he had experienced in the past and he didn't know anybody that could help him with it either. Most people in their world barely understood the space element, even most academics would be confused when discussing the deeper secrets of space like layers.
Even John Smith who had taken the time to study space knew barely anything about layers.
But there was one thing Chronos could do right now. Turning back to the skill screen he decisively chose to buy the [Void Ice] skill, it could absorb excess energy which he hoped would calm his raging bloodline and the ice might freeze or at least slow down the process when he started falling into other layers.
He hoped that this skill would give him enough time to react, unlike this time where everything happened in the blink of an eye.
"Don't tell the girls yet. I don't think they can help with this issue and worrying needlessly would distract them when it's important." he said to Gregory.
Gregory sighed and nodded; they would have to resolve this on their own for now.
