She nodded then asked again, "What happened? If you keep scowling like that, you'll scare the children."
"I gained an abnormal skill. It lets me create skill books more easily but there are a bunch of needed materials for different books and it's starting to look like a real pain to handle it." Chronos said.
That only confused Lyla more. Why would having a skill be a pain to handle?
"What do you mean? Isn't having a new skill a good thing?" She asked.
Looking over the list of materials needed Chronos organized his thoughts before answering.
"Well, it's very disorganized and there are multiple methods of creating the same skill book and the description isn't very good either. Overall, it feels like Hrólmir threw it together in a hurry when he saw us making a skill book." Chronos said.
Looking at the message Lyla said, "I bet he did, even his message feels a bit rushed. That just means we're moving faster than he thought we would."
She smiled with pride as if the achievement were her own.
Chronos chuckled, "That's not the only problem, if the silver dragon's followers find out we have a skill that allows us to teach skills to others they'll never leave us alone."
A horrified expression crossed Lyla's face as she realized that they would never have a moment's peace once the followers of the various gods of knowledge found them.
Chronos chose to ignore that for now asking, "Did you learn the skill properly?"
"Of course. But I don't think just anybody can learn a skill from opening a skill book, it felt more like the skill was meant for me." She smirked.
Chronos admired how fast she could change her attitude.
"Hm, so if the skill resonates with you, it can be learned instantly but if not, you'll have to study the skill book and practice? We'll need to look into this more, maybe have the kids learn a few skills now that they are ready for a system." Chronos theorized.
"Most Likely, what's up with that title? 'Lost Pup'? Where did that come from?" Lyla changed the subject.
Chronos scowled, being unable to hide the title was already becoming annoying.
"It came from the voice and I can't hide it. I'm checking the effects now." Chronos said
It annoyed him that he couldn't change it but if he couldn't change it, he should at least know what this title brought him.
It had three passive effects and one active effect like all the other titles he had seen, but they were kind of strange. This title felt more like someone was playing a joke on him rather than trying to be helpful.
"What is up with this title?" He muttered as Lyla gave him an inquisitive look. "It tells me the acquisition condition is to 'get lost in space one too many times' and that it has to be forced on the receiver, but I don't remember ever getting lost in space."
He was very confused by the acquisition condition as he had never travelled through space before, but Lyla had a look of understanding on her face.
"I didn't see it wrong then. When you fell out of your chair you passed through it, not slipped off of it." Lyla explained.
"That's... bad, very bad. What if I didn't enter my mental space but instead entered a mental layer of space at that moment. If I start falling through space, I'm not sure if I can catch myself. There's no telling where I'll end up, I might even end up in another plane or realm." Chronos worried.
"What do you mean another plane or realm?" Lyla asked.
Remembering that most people in this world wouldn't understand how space worked Chronos explained what he meant.
"To understand I'll need to explain how space operates, it will take a while." Lyla settled into her seat and nodded.
"I'll start small with our world and the layers that make up our realm. Each world is made of multiple layers such as the physical layer, the spiritual layer and others but these layers are all tied to the same world. They all influence the world in some way making it stronger or weaker as the case may be.
Entering other layers isn't that hard or dangerous. And while there might be creatures living in these other layers all it takes to get back to the real layer, the layer that the world exists in, is time or a strong blow. Are you following along alright?"
Lyla nodded, the concept of layers being tied to the real world wasn't something new. It was often brought up when people discussed spiritual beings and where they lived.
"Good, now each world has an area of influence that extends into space which is called a realm and once you travel far enough away from a realm or follow certain paths out of the realm you will be in a very different environment.
The area outside of a realm is called the void, space, or heaven depending on who you ask, and most people don't actually understand what they are talking about, me included. It's not easy to study something you can't live in.
The danger that lives in the void is much stronger than what most people will ever achieve and the environment is not habitable by most species. But if you can cross the void, you can enter another realm allowing you to travel to a different world. Do you understand?" Chronos asked.
"I think so. This talk of different worlds is a bit hard to accept since I always thought our world was the only one but if this knowledge comes from the systems books, then it must be true." She said.
"I understand, I also had a hard time accepting it when I learned about this from {Spatial Relativity for Kids. The Place to Begin Your Journey!} but it only talked about the existence of other worlds, not how to reach them." Chronos stated.
"I see, but that doesn't explain planes. What are those?" Lyla asked.
"Right, planes are essentially layers of the universe and not connected to a single world. Just as realms have layers the universe also has layers but they are so massive that they are called planes. They float through the universe and connect to many different realms at the same time while not being a part of any realm.
Planes also have a central power to them such as the elemental planes of fire, earth, water, or wind. Each of those planes is primarily made up of their respective element and usually lack other elements. The same can be said of all other planes but remember that not all planes are friendly or understandable.
There are planes like the abyss or the horror plane that are made of the negative emotions and thoughts of the living." Chronos explained.
She thought about everything Chronos just taught her. It covered a lot of knowledge that most beings would never have the chance to encounter.
"What if you used the planes to enter other realms? You said that they connect to many different realms so they could be used as bridges to get to other realms, right?" Lyla asked.
"You could but even the gentlest of planes have their own beasts and problems to face before you reach another realm. And there is no assurance that the realm you find will be welcoming to you. I suppose there could be planes specifically made to travel between realms, but I don't know where those are." Chronos said.
"Okaay, and your new title can only be acquired by falling into another layer of space. Does it at least help you when you fall into another layer?" Lyla asked.
"Sort of, it doesn't stop me from falling into other layers, but it helps me once I have fallen into them. The core passive effect is [The Path Home] it helps me find my way home when I'm lost in space but there is a blacked-out portion at the bottom. It's probably a hidden effect but until I meet some specific requirement, I won't know what it does.
But the second passive seems to contradict the first. It is [Wrong Turn Specialist], and it says it helps me encounter good things when I'm lost but the wording feels more like it helps me get lost to encounter good things. I can't tell if it's trying to help me or cause problems for me."
"Pfft, hehehe, so the first one helps you find your way, but the second one gets you lost? That's definitely a joke from a being of great power. I mean how do you even become a [Wrong Turn Specialist]?" She started chuckling.
"Oh, that's nothing. The third passive and the active effects are even worse. The third passive is [Where Did He Go?] and it makes it nearly impossible to find me once I am lost, even going so far as to block or divert divination magics. There's even a saying attached to it 'You can't track someone who doesn't know where they are either'." Chronos chuckled as well.
