Chapter 117 - 117 Skill Book

Despite being mysterious Chronos got the feeling he should know this voice, and he had a good feeling towards it. But no matter how much he thought about it he couldn't place where the voice was from. In the end he chose to ignore it and get back to work.

Focusing on his work Chronos began writing books for every skill he had mastered but once he came to the skill he had saved for last, he hesitated.

[Roar] was a skill that had two versions for him.

He could write the skill as he originally learned it, a skill to draw aggression onto himself, or he could write the altered version he had created which sent out a wall of aura to slam into his enemies while drawing aggression.

Chronos wanted to write the altered version, but he wasn't sure if it would interfere with writing the original.

"Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained." No matter what the result would be Chronos decided to write the altered version first, he liked that one more.

Several minutes later the altered [Roar] floated next to the rest of his books. After he was finished, he started writing the original version and found that he had no issues writing it. When he was finished a cover materialized on it just like the rest of his books.

Confused, he called out, "I thought you said it would be difficult to know advanced skills?"

"That's not what I said at all. Listen closely this time, I said that it would be hard to advance a skill once it was written down. And just so you know, if a skill has already reached mastery, you can change it to create an altered version or use parts of it to create an entirely new skill." The voice scolded him.

"How does that work with the system? It transfers the novice rank of books into our minds so wouldn't that limit our future growth." Chronos asked in confusion.

"Not until you make the skill your own, which won't happen until you fully master them. Those books are technically connected to the system meaning that they don't really belong to you, if you are separated from the system, they will disappear. It's a clever technicality that gets around the restrictions of this technique." The voice explained in admiration.

"I see, so if I transfer a technique into someone else's mind, they will have the master rank. However, that will make it hard to understand but by keeping the books within the system it just assists in growth. Like having a teacher come and show you what to do, well occasionally." Chronos said.

A pleased feeling came from the voice, "I think it's about time for you to rest."

"What do you mean? I'm feeling greeeaa..." Chronos wanted to be happy and celebrate but a sudden wave of exhaustion hit him.

"I suppose I should have said this earlier but doing anything within one's mental space is very exhausting. Rest well 'Lost Pup'." As the voice faded Chronos heard the last few words and couldn't help thinking that he was being insulted.

He didn't get lost that often! But why did it feel comforting at the same time?

Then he blacked out.

Several hours later he woke up to see his vision of the ceiling blocked by two large fruits. He was receiving a lap pillow from Lyla.

"Well, this is a pleasant way to wake up. I don't suppose you could wake me up like this more often?" He teased her.

Leaning back some she smacked him on the head.

"This isn't a laughing matter; I was really worried when you suddenly slipped out of your chair without warning. It looked like you went through it for a moment." She said while glaring at him. "What happened?"

"I learned too many skills at once and was drawn into my mental space. Had a nice conversation with a disembodied voice, you know just the usual nonsense that happens to weirdos." He replied.

"And that took several hours?" She skeptically asked.

"No, I passed out after learning how to create skill books. Apparently, the disembodied voice forgot to tell me that creating skill books uses up mental energy and once you run out you pass out." He lazily explained.

His head still felt heavy despite sleeping for several hours. He wanted to go back to sleep but Lyla had work for him to do.

"If you can create mental skill books, could you create a skill book in the real world for someone else to learn? Quick try it out!" She forced him to get up and handed him the intent ink and paper.

Sitting down he pondered what skill to write, after careful consideration he decided to write a skill that Lyla desperately wanted. His altered [Roar], she had been wanting to learn that skill for some time but hadn't managed to understand how to roar correctly yet.

While he was writing he felt that something was off. It was too easy.

The previous time it had taken him multiple revisions to finish just one book, and he had been forced to restart just after a few pages on his first attempt. But now there weren't any mistakes in his writing.

Thirty minutes later he completed the altered [Roar], but when he was going to put a cover on it, he felt a sudden surge of energy coming from the system. The book began to float, and a cover attached itself on its own before falling back on the desk.

Carefully he touched the book, but nothing happened. On its cover was a title he didn't recognize, now it was called the [Wolf's Roar].

Looking at his system, he saw that his skills name had also changed to match.

"Well, that was strange. What do you think of this book?" He asked as he handed it to Lyla.

"Thank you." She excitedly took the book.

Opening it she saw a flash of light then information entered her mind.

Worried Chronos called out to her, "Lyla. Lyla!"

Looking at her eyes, it dawned on him that Gregory had the same look in his eyes when he was learning the Nightweave Threads method.

"She must be in her mental space. Will this happen every time someone opens a skill book?"

This opened a whole new path for learning in the future but there had to be some kind of restrictions for learning like this. It wouldn't make sense to be able to learn any skill book you picked up, that would just give you a bunch of random skills with no direction.

DA-DA-DA-DAAAA!

Chronos jumped back at the fanfare as a transparent screen appeared in midair in front of him.

{Congratulations on creating the first skill book in the world! This is a monumental achievement for you and your world and will open the rest of the universe to you with time.

As a reward you will receive the [Skill Book] skill which will assist in the creation of skill books from now on and you shall also receive 50 points immediately.

Once again congratulations for your achievement!

Sincerely, Hrólmir Snowmane.

P.S. Have you checked your titles? He made some changes. Hehe.}

Calming down Chronos looked at the message for a minute and only had one question.

"Who is he?" Looking at his titles section, he saw that he had a new title 'Lost Pup'. "Oh, that he." Chronos muttered in annoyance.

Titles could be seen by anybody with a system, but most titles could be hidden at the user's discretion. Unfortunately, when Chronos tried to hide this new title, he was informed that this title could not be changed and would always be visible and active regardless of what other title was actively being used.

A blood vessel on his forehead pulsed as Chronos became annoyed at the voice. Taking a deep breath to calm down he decided to check the [Skill Book] skill first.

[Skill Book]: This skill gives you knowledge on how to create skill books from various materials by infusing them with mental energy.

The description was simple but along with it was a full list of ingredients needed for writing skill books of different kinds. Different types of books required different ingredients to be used in the creation of the paper or the cover of the book and all of them required intent ink or they wouldn't work.

Other than the special materials for creating the book he would also need certain elemental crystals dust or beast blood to be mixed with the ink if he wanted to create elemental type skill books.

For non-elemental skills like [Roar] the requirements were less strict, but it still required strong paper, intent ink, and someone who deeply understood the skill.

As Lyla came back to herself the first thing she saw was Chronos's scowling face.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"Hm, welcome back, did you learn the skill properly?"
