Chapter 80 - 80 Accidental Blast

"Alright we can test other ideas later right now I want to see your other ability. You called it [Isolate]? Cast it and I'll break it." Freydis said.

Nodding Chronos cast [Isolate] around a barrel.

Freydis swung her claymore with the peak power of a first rank trainee only to watch it bounce off without leaving a mark. Increasing her strength, she swung with the peak power of a second rank soldier this time the claymore didn't bounce off but it still didn't deal any damage. Continuing to increase her strength she struck with the peak power of a third rank knight.

The blow landed solidly causing the barrier to fluctuate but it didn't break the barrier. Instead, once she lifted her claymore the barrier began to repair itself immediately. She was impressed but still needed to find out the barrier's upper limit.

Lifting her claymore, she struck with her full strength as a high-fourth rank lord. Everyone watched as the barrier bent for several seconds before shattering, proving that it could hold against a fourth rank being for a few seconds, giving those inside a chance to strike back. In addition to this she missed the barrel due to the barrier's deflection which would allow whoever was inside a chance to escape.

"Oh, that's impressive. With that much durability you could use it to block an enemy's path without issues. Can you change its shape or move it?"

"Yes, it requires training, but the caster can give it any shape they can imagine and move it around them in combat. However, if it's connected to the ground or other immovable objects it can't be moved or at least, I haven't been able to move it."

As the clan members thought about this ability, they realized that it could be used in many different ways from forming weapons to creating bridges or, with enough mastery, creating barracks and houses.

If they could master [Isolate] then their versatility in and out of combat would drastically increase and no one was certain if this was the limit of it either.

"Can you shrink or expand the barrier after it is cast?" One of the werewolves asked

"How much does this ability cost to cast?" Freydis questioned.

"Uh, I've never tried to do that. And as for the cost for a full barrier, it is about twice that of a [Sever] with the cost going up according to the size of the barrier. Smaller barriers cost less and larger barriers cost more."

With an inquisitive look Chronos formed a small [Isolate] and tried to expand it. It slowly grew larger but as it grew larger it cost more spirit than if he had just started out at that size. On the other hand, he found that creating a new barrier and trying to shrink it was much easier with barely any cost but after shrinking it to half of its original size it became more difficult to continue compressing it.

Curiosity got the better of him, and he decided to keep going to find out how much he could compress it.

From a full meter he compressed it to half a meter then to a tenth of a meter. As it grew smaller, he noticed changes in the very air within it. At half a meter the image of Aunt Freydis on the other side started to distort then the distortion became worse until a tenth of a meter where the air became ripples.

As he continued to compress the barrier between his hands it started to glow. He started feeling excited, wondering just what would happen when it was smaller...

Crack. Whump! Thump.

The barrier shattered due to the great internal pressure it was under resulting in an explosion of air that rippled outwards. Both Chronos and Freydis were struck by this ripple head on, Chronos was thrown onto his back while Freydis was knocked backwards but landed firmly on her feet.

"What was that!?" Freydis shouted.

"I don't know but I like it." Chronos laughed as he sat up. "It takes a while to compress making it more of a magic attack instead of a technique but the way that ripple of air moves through your body could easily damage internal organs."

It was an impressive attack that could bypass most forms of defenses and penetrate a creature's body. But Chronos felt that that wasn't its final form, if he could compress it more the resulting blast would be several times more destructive.

However, after it was shrunk to a certain size, compressing it further was very difficult and would require training to achieve anything more.

Even if it didn't explode, making a large barrier and then compressing the air inside of it could cause serious harm to anybody trapped inside.

"Maybe if you layered multiple [Isolate] barriers on top of each other it would be easier to compress or you might need a higher level of mastery. It's clear that a single barrier isn't enough to hold all of that pressure in at your current level." Freydis said.

By now every werewolf present was so excited to unlock their bloodline that they were zooming around the training field.

"Quick, tell us how to awaken our bloodline! You must know how!"

"Yeah, we want to grow too!"

"Tell us! Tell us! Tell us!"

They began chanting in their excitement. Most of the camp was awake by now and preparing breakfast but it still caused some disturbances in the camp.

"Quiet!" Freydis shouted. "Chronos, do you have a method to help us unlock our bloodline?"

"I do, but I need to write it down first. I don't know how costly it would be to purchase it from the system once the library is available. Unfortunately, I can't give much advice on how to train with this method yet, I only just started studying it myself."

"That's fine. I'm pretty sure the fallen warriors would be willing to train it first and find the pitfalls for the rest of us."

"I volunteer!" Came a loud gruff voice from amongst the werewolves.

A heavily scarred werewolf stepped out of the crowd. He had a scar on his right eye that ran down his face and across his neck and he was missing his left arm completely. His lower body had several more scars and he was missing a part of his tail.

According to the family records he had once been trapped by multiple Beastfall Doctrine hunters but after a long battle he barely managed to escape from them on the brink of death.

The Beastfall Doctrine believers were specialists who hunted down werewolves or other beastfolk to torment and kill them, especially the Beklaedning clan who they considered as the spawn of some demon or something like that.

Chronos wasn't sure what their exact doctrines were, just that they seemed to have an extreme hatred for his clan.

Amongst the Beklaedning clan it was very rare for a werewolf to die of old age. They were far too combative, preferring to fight to the death rather than surrender.

However some of their warriors would return to the clan heavily injured but barely alive and since they considered it cowardly to commit suicide, they would stubbornly cling to life even if it meant living as a cripple.

These cripples were known as fallen warriors by the clan. Once they were told that they might be able to help the clan or even recover by practicing this method that Chronos had found they would definitely jump at the chance.

"Sten, are you certain that you want to do this? There is a chance that you will die as you discover whatever pitfalls this method has." Freydis put pressure on him.

Even if she trusted Chronos she needed to impress upon the others how risky such an action was to prevent them from doing other stupid things. Though she wasn't sure if this would help.

"I'm almost a fallen warrior, if this method can allow me to recover even a little of my previous strength, then I believe it is worth the risk." Sten said as a scar twisted his grin.

Freydis held his gaze for a few seconds then said, "Chronos write down your method then teach what you know to Sten. Once he knows enough, he'll teach the rest of us."

"Yes Ma'am." They shouted before turning to leave.

With the mornings training complete everyone left to take care of their own matters while Sten went with Chronos to the supplies tent to acquire paper for writing down the Divine Beast method.

When they arrived at the tent the quartermaster stopped them.

"Ah wolf boy, are you Chronos?"

"I am."

"Good, I have something for you. Captain Varkesh and singer Nerethis dropped them off for you."

He took out multiple light blue crystals that Chronos could feel world energy emanating from and a sword that had the emblem of a wolf on it.

"The crystals were found in the seal theater after the tear was dealt with and are a part of your reward, but singer Nerethis didn't tell me where the sword came from." He said as he handed them to him.
