Chapter 189 - Chapter 189

Reincarnated as a Fisherman and a Dad Chapter 189

The previous head butler of the mansion had already informed Heneral that the old woman had stolen some items from them a few years ago. Heneral told the old butler to handle the matter himself... He didn't expect that his order would be misunderstood by the butler, who let Bruha go free. That was the moment when Bruha started stealing even more, believing her surname would always protect her.

But now that Heneral knew Bruha was still stealing from the mansion, there was no point in forgiving her. All the things she had stolen had likely been sold or consumed, and since she couldn't return them, she would probably go to jail.

And that was the reason why Bruha was currently begging Sebastian for forgiveness.

"Mr. Sebastian! Please, forgive me! I swear, I'll never do it again!" Smudged with snot and tears, Bruha cried out loud, drawing the eyes of almost every person in the police station.

"Mother! What happened!?"

Emmanuel tried to help his mother stand, but the old woman kept lying on the ground, hugging Sebastian's leg while weeping.

"Is she your mother?" the police officer responsible for their case asked Emmanuel. His head had been aching because Bruha was such a difficult hag to deal with. All she did was cry and beg like a child.

"Y-Yes," Emmanuel answered.

"Your mother has been stealing from Mr. Sebastian's boss for many years. After calculating the total value of the items she took, it comes out to around 1.4 million pesos. Mr. Sebastian's boss only has one condition to drop the charges: she must return that full amount," the police officer said.

"Also, Mrs. Bruha is fired from her position. She is banned from entering the mansion from now on," Sebastian added.

"W-What!?" Delilah reacted so strongly that her pink eyes almost popped out of her eye sockets.

"We don't have that kind of money!"

1.4 million pesos? It wasn't easy to save that amount of money even for a middle-class family like theirs, especially since Delilah spent most of their savings to feed her gambling addiction.

In their household, only Emmanuel and Bruha were gainfully employed.

Their oldest son was a bum who spent his days drinking with his friends.

Their youngest daughter was still in high school.

As for their middle child... They had no idea what had happened to him. They heard that Karlos was working as a fisherman in the province. They secretly hoped he had drowned in the sea or something.

"M-Mister, is there any way for you to reconsider? We don't have that amount of money!" Even Emmanuel was shocked. He knew his mother had been stealing items from the mansion, she had even bragged about it, but he didn't expect the total to reach 1.4 million pesos.

"If you can't pay the money, your mother will spend her days in jail." Sebastian remained cold. He couldn't believe he had almost been tricked by the old hag.

"She will have to spend at least 5 to 7 years in prison," the police officer noted.

"Waaaaahhh—!" Bruha burst out crying.

"But she's already old! This is an injustice!" Emmanuel couldn't help but feel sorrow over his mother's situation.

"Injustice? Hah!" Sebastian scoffed. "Your mother has been stealing so many items from the mansion that the damages have exceeded a million pesos."

"But she's only stealing from the rich. It's not that bad!" Delilah argued.

"Now that I think about it, you two are probably accomplices. You likely knew Bruha was stealing from the mansion and benefited from it." Sebastian smirked.

"W-We don't know what you're talking about," Delilah said, lowering her voice. She was terrified of going to jail.

"Waahhh! My miserable life! At my age, I'm still suffering such injustice! Heaven! Why don't you strike me with lightning instead and end my suffering!" Bruha screamed, causing everyone in the police station to glare at her. Words held true power in Thera, as it was once a magical world.

"Alright, take this old woman to the holding cell." The police officer couldn't take it anymore. He was genuinely afraid that lightning might actually strike their station.

"Waaaaahhh—!!"

Now that the criminal had been secured, Sebastian left. He knew that even if Bruha somehow paid back the value of the stolen goods, she was still going to jail, albeit with a reduced sentence. Either way, it was no longer his problem.

Emmanuel and Delilah followed Bruha to a small, foul-smelling cell block. The area was cramped, reeking of urine and other unpleasant odors.

"She will stay here in this cell for three days before being transferred to a penitentiary. You have 10 minutes to talk to her."

The police officer stayed close by to endure the foul smell, monitoring their interactions to ensure they didn't attempt anything illegal.

"Son! You have to help me! I don't want to go to prison! I'm old! I'm probably going to die in there!"

"I know, Ma... But I don't even have the money to bail you out!"

"Do something!" she sobbed. Suddenly, she recalled something vital.

"Why don't you talk to the third young master!? I'm sure if you tell him the truth, he will help me!" Bruha urged, playing their ultimate trump card. She was desperate enough at this point to demand Tonto's intervention.

"No! We will never do that!" Delilah immediately shot down the idea of approaching Tonto Alejandro.

"Tonto is in an excellent position right now, and I don't want him to find out the truth! He's innocent and doesn't deserve to have his life disturbed. He should remain exactly who he is." Delilah was already completely content knowing that Tonto enjoyed an amazing, high-society life, and she didn't ask for anything in return. At least Tonto was at the very top.

"You fucking bitch!" Bruha almost lunged at Delilah, but her handcuffs restricted her movements.

"So you want me to die in prison, is that it?"

"No matter what, my decision to keep Tonto protected will stand," Delilah answered with firm conviction.

"You—!" Bruha glared at Delilah. "I knew it! You're going to destroy our household. Son, you should have listened to me back then! I told you that marrying this pig would be your downfall!"

Emmanuel listened to their bitter bickering and felt as though his head was going to explode. He agreed with his mother, but he also understood his wife's perspective. Caught in the middle, he didn't know which side to choose.
