Far from the battlefield where gods, Beasts, and Servants clashed, another war was being fought.
There were no stars here.
No sky.
No up or down.
Only an endless sea of fractured realities—shards of universes floating like broken mirrors in a black ocean that stretched forever. Each fragment held echoes of different timelines: dying suns, silent galaxies, forgotten civilizations frozen in the last moment before extinction.
And in the center of it all stood **Kaelthar**.
The dragon's massive form hovered in the void, wings spread wide, scales glowing faintly with a deep, ancient light. His presence alone kept the surrounding fractures from collapsing further. Wherever his power touched, the chaotic storm slowed, as if reality itself trusted him to hold it together.
But even his power had limits.
Across from him, something far worse waited.
The **Warden of Chaos**.
It didn't have a single shape. It couldn't. Every time Kaelthar focused on it, the creature shifted—sometimes a towering figure made of burning void, sometimes a mass of twisting limbs, sometimes nothing more than a hole in existence where the laws of reality refused to apply.
Its voice came from everywhere at once.
"Still resisting."
The sound felt wrong, like broken glass scraping across the mind.
Kaelthar's golden eyes narrowed.
"You call this resistance?" the dragon rumbled. "You're barely trying."
A ripple spread through the void as the Warden laughed.
"Barely trying?"
A thousand rifts opened at once around Kaelthar. From each one spilled distorted matter—remnants of destroyed universes, compressed into weapons and hurled toward him like cosmic artillery.
Kaelthar moved.
His wings beat once.
The force shattered the incoming storm.
Fragments of collapsed galaxies turned to dust before touching him, erased by the pressure of his aura alone.
But the attack wasn't meant to harm him.
It was meant to distract him.
The Warden appeared behind him instantly, a towering silhouette formed from swirling entropy.
A blade of pure collapse swung downward.
Kaelthar twisted just in time, raising one claw to intercept it. The moment they collided, reality screamed.
The impact flattened nearby fragments of space, turning them into glowing rings that spiraled away into the void.
Kaelthar grunted.
"You're getting impatient."
The Warden leaned closer.
"You're getting weaker."
For the first time since the battle began, Kaelthar didn't respond immediately.
Because the Warden wasn't wrong.
Holding the boundary of the multiverse together while fighting this creature was draining even for him.
And the Warden knew it.
"You split your attention," the creature continued, its shape shifting again—this time resembling a towering armored figure made of liquid darkness.
"One part of you holds the infection back."
A tendril lashed out, striking Kaelthar's side and sending the dragon sliding across the void.
"Another part sends aid to the battlefield below."
The Warden's voice grew amused.
"And yet you still think you can defeat me?"
Kaelthar stopped his momentum with a slow flap of his wings.
He rolled his neck slightly, scales grinding together like tectonic plates.
"You talk too much."
The dragon's eyes ignited.
Power gathered in his chest, ancient and overwhelming.
"Let me remind you why I was chosen to guard existence."
Kaelthar inhaled.
The void bent inward toward him.
Then he released it.
"**Aethernova Breath — Sovereign's Ruin.**"
A beam of pure stellar destruction erupted from his mouth, tearing through layers of space like a spear through water. Entire fragments of broken universes vaporized instantly as the attack carved a path straight toward the Warden.
The creature didn't dodge.
It spread its arms.
The beam struck.
For a brief moment the Warden vanished inside the blinding torrent of cosmic fire.
Then the attack twisted.
Bent.
Collapsed inward.
The Warden stepped out of the blast unharmed, its body absorbing the energy like a black hole swallowing light.
"Predictable."
It lifted one hand.
The beam reversed direction.
Kaelthar's own attack came rushing back at him.
The dragon snapped his jaws shut, cutting off the breath weapon just before the reflected energy reached him.
The remaining wave exploded harmlessly behind him, destroying another cluster of floating realities.
Kaelthar frowned slightly.
"You're adapting faster."
"Of course," the Warden replied. "Chaos evolves."
It lunged.
This time the attack wasn't a blade or tendril.
It was gravity itself.
The surrounding void compressed violently, crushing inward from all directions.
Kaelthar roared as the pressure slammed into him.
Fragments of shattered universes collapsed around his body like collapsing stars.
His wings strained.
For a moment the dragon's massive form actually buckled.
The Warden advanced slowly.
"You cannot fight me forever."
Kaelthar growled through clenched teeth.
"Watch me."
His claws ignited with golden light.
"**Primordial Claw — Worldbreaker Rend.**"
With a single sweeping strike, Kaelthar tore open the gravity field trapping him. The shockwave blasted outward, shredding the Warden's attack and sending ripples across the entire void.
The dragon surged forward immediately.
His claws slashed through space itself, carving glowing scars into reality as he struck again and again.
The Warden blocked the first strike.
Dodged the second.
The third landed.
Kaelthar's claw ripped straight through the creature's torso.
For a moment the Warden's form split apart like torn smoke.
Kaelthar didn't celebrate.
Because the creature wasn't dying.
Its body simply reformed.
"Interesting," it said calmly.
The torn darkness stitched itself back together.
"Your strength rivals the ancient gods."
Kaelthar snorted.
"I've killed ancient gods."
The Warden tilted its head.
"And yet here you stand… struggling."
Another ripple passed through the void.
Far away—far below—Kaelthar felt the distant tremor of the battlefield where Tiamat and the Servants were fighting.
He felt their desperation.
Their determination.
Their hope.
The Warden noticed the distraction.
"Oh," it said softly.
"That's where your attention keeps drifting."
Before Kaelthar could react, the creature reached into the fabric of space.
A new rift opened.
Inside it, the battlefield below became visible like a distant window—Servants fighting, Beasts raging, Xyrrath's monstrous form tearing reality apart.
The Warden smiled.
"What happens if I interfere there?"
Kaelthar's expression hardened instantly.
"You won't."
"Why not?"
"Because I'll kill you first."
The dragon surged forward again.
But this time the Warden moved faster.
Its arm shot out, grabbing Kaelthar by the throat.
The impact echoed like thunder across the void.
Even Kaelthar's massive body was forced to a halt.
"You cannot protect everything," the Warden whispered.
Chaos surged through its body, pouring into the rift leading toward the battlefield.
Kaelthar's eyes widened.
"No."
The dragon's power exploded outward.
"**Sovereign Domain — Dragonheart Eternity.**"
Golden light erupted from his body, forcing the Warden's grip open.
Kaelthar slammed both claws into the rift and tore it apart before the chaos could fully pass through.
The portal collapsed instantly.
Silence returned to the void.
The Warden looked almost amused.
"You reacted quickly."
Kaelthar's wings spread wide again.
His chest rose slowly as he drew in another breath.
"I warned you."
The Warden's body expanded, growing larger, more mo
nstrous as raw chaos flooded its form.
"And I warned you," it replied.
Around them, the shattered multiverse trembled.
The Warden of Chaos raised both arms.
And the entire void began to move.
"Let us see," it said calmly,
"how long the guardian of existence can truly endure."
