Chapter 19 - Chapter 16: Mr. Ge's Visit

As for ways to make money, Liou Yuan hasn't thought it through yet.

But with his current skills, he believes earning money should be easier for him than for ordinary people.

If it comes to it, he can work harder, learn more of his mother's medical skills, and become a decent doctor.

"I'm not as altruistic as my mother; when encountering someone rich, I'd definitely go for a big haul, worse than Kong Yi's dad, definitely the Yanhe City's Liou Yuan the Ruthless."

Liou Yuan shamelessly muttered his grand plans for making money.

At this moment, outside the already closed door of the Xuanhu Clinic, suddenly came a knocking sound.

Knock knock knock!

The rhythm was neither too fast nor too slow, the sound not loud, but Liou Yuan heard it clearly with his sharp ears.

Liou Yuan wasn't encountering this situation for the first time, so he responded without looking up, "The clinic is closed. If you're seeking medical advice, please come back tomorrow."

Unless it's a matter of life and death, Liou Yuan wouldn't open the door during off hours.

His mother isn't made of steel; being worn out daily, she would eventually fall ill.

Liou Yuan's voice reached outside, but the knocking did not stop.

Then it sounded again, accompanied by an elderly voice.

"It's me, Ge Jinhong. Is the person inside Mr. Liou?"

Ge Jinhong, that same Mr. Ge who teamed up with Liou Yuan that night to confront two Star Evils.

Liou Yuan roughly knew his identity; he was a cultivator working for the Yanhe Government Office, handling Star Evil incidents that ordinary city guards and constables couldn't manage.

However, a cultivator who is content to be under government service surely doesn't have extraordinarily high cultivation.

Even so, he is definitely stronger than an ordinary person, at least stronger than Liou Yuan now.

So upon hearing the person's identity, Liou Yuan quickly walked out from inside while responding, "Oh, it's Mr. Ge, coming right away."

At the same time, doubt arose in his heart.

"Why is this old man here at the Xuanhu Clinic?"

Despite his thoughts, Liou Yuan opened the shop door without hesitation.

As the door opened.

The odd figure of Mr. Ge with a limp came into view, wearing that same blue long gown.

He didn't come alone; beside him stood a middle-aged man with a serious expression, wearing black constable attire.

His physique was not as burly as Luo Jie's, and he had no weapons, but the thick calluses on his hands proved he was no ordinary person.

"I've heard Mr. Luo retired honorably, so this must be the newly appointed Chief Constable of the west district, Mr. Xin."

Liou Yuan glanced at him, guessing his identity.

Satisfied, Liou Yuan greeted Mr. Ge with cupped hands, smiling, and introduced, "This is Mr. Xin, Xin Hao."

Liou Yuan feigned surprise, sizing up Chief Constable Xin, and responded, "Oh, it's Chief Constable Xin, I've heard so much about you."

"I even held you when you were little; you might not remember."

Chief Constable Xin was surprisingly easy to get along with; upon hearing this, he smiled and explained, "Back then, Mr. Liou and I were colleagues, so you should call me uncle."

The deceased Mr. Liou was a taboo topic at home.

Liou Zhen, before leaving Yanhe City, avoided that subject on purpose.

Liou Yuan followed suit, not daring to mention it.

So hearing Xin Hao suddenly mention Mr. Liou, Liou Yuan felt unfamiliar but out of politeness, he nodded and said, "Uncle Xin."

Mr. Ge, very accustomed to the place, gestured inside with a cheerful grin, "Mind if we come in and sit?"

Perhaps due to their shared battle, Mr. Ge felt right at home, considering Liou Yuan saved his life at a crucial moment.

For the older generation, this is a life-and-death bond.

Liou Yuan didn't think much about it; if Mr. Ge wanted to come in, so be it. Given his special status, befriending him could only benefit, so he smiled and said, "Mr. Ge, please come right in."

The three sat in the front hall.

The clinic still held the strong scent of the medicinal soup brewed during the day.

Kong Yi and Bai Xin were still in the back hall, so Liou Yuan, assisting today, naturally took on the role of temporary 'host.'

He took the initiative to speak, preventing a cold atmosphere.

"Is Mr. Ge here to see my mother?"

"No, we came specifically to see you." Chief Constable Xin answered for Mr. Ge, then reached into his breast pocket and took out a large package wrapped in white cloth.

He placed it on the table meant for weighing medicinal materials.

Swish! The package touched the table with a crisp sound.

Liou Yuan's ears reacted, recognizing what it was.

"Silver?" Liou Yuan gave them a puzzled and surprised look.

"Indeed, it is silver," Mr. Ge called him 'virtuous nephew,' which felt odd to Liou Yuan but he chose not to correct him.

Pointing at the silver, his face showed clear curiosity despite saying nothing.

"This is the bounty from the government office," Chief Constable Xin softly explained.

"Had you not helped us with those Star Evils, Mr. Ge and Mr. Luo might not have come out of that Ms. Qiao's yard alive."

"Mr. Ge specially reported the incident, and you've done a great service to dispel evil; hence, you deserve a reward."

"A total of fifty taels."

"Fifty taels?!" Liou Yuan raised his eyebrows.

He had already heard about the Yanhe Government's bounty on Star Evils.

Clearly, not everyone dared to claim such a reward.

Unexpectedly, he unintentionally earned this bonus; Liou Yuan laughed cheerfully.

He was lacking silver right now, as his mother spent over three hundred taels on his medicine; naturally, he wouldn't refuse such good fortune.

"I merely got lucky and took advantage... It's a trouble to Mr. Ge!" But he didn't miss any pleasantries and, before taking the silver, he courteously bowed to Mr. Ge.

Chief Constable Xin mentioned Mr. Ge reported the case, thus earning him the bounty.

Today, they visited with this bounty, increasing Liou Yuan's admiration for this old man.

"Don't mention it; without you, Mr. Luo and I might not have left the Qiao Family's yard alive that night." Mr. Ge waved it off nonchalantly.

Recalling that night, Chief Constable Xin glanced at Liou Yuan a few more times.

Besides being the son of Mr. Liou, there was another crucial reason for this visit: the strength Liou Yuan displayed that night.

Obviously, Liou Yuan was no longer an ordinary person; he was a cultivator like Mr. Ge.

Though he may not reach his brother Liou Zhen's level, he was stronger than himself as a Chief Constable.

Being in the government office can benefit from befriending such individuals; for Chief Constable Xin, this relationship is invaluable, not to mention the connection to Mr. Liou, so getting closer to Liou Yuan is reasonable.

Thus, under Chief Constable Xin's intentional approach, the atmosphere was quite amicable.

Liou Yuan continually addressed them as Uncle Xin and Mr. Ge, behaving quite humbly.

"If not for the Yanhe Government's personnel, then at least for the sake of silver."

Handling the bag with fifty taels of silver, Liou Yuan thought to himself.

As Chief Constable Xin said, their main purpose was delivering silver, beyond that, other intentions were not expressed directly.
