Chapter 135 - Chapter 131: God of the Moon

The battlefield had gone silent.

Not because the fighting had ended.

Because everyone was watching Aiden.

His breathing had become almost impossible to hear.

His body hung motionless within Nyx's shadows.

The silver necklace no longer shines.

"...Aiden..."

Theron's voice barely existed.

The bond...

was fading.

For the first time in thousands of years—

The Moon God felt true fear.

Not afraid of death.

Fear of being alone.

Again.

Eirik stepped forward.

Every movement felt heavier than the last.

"I meant what I said."

Theron looked at him.

Silver eyes burning.

"Take my life."

Eirik swallowed.

His hands trembled.

"If..."

His voice was caught.

"If mine can replace what he lost..."

"...then let me give it."

Theron stared at him.

Long.

Silent.

Finally—

He shook his head.

"Node."

Eirik blinked.

"...What?"

"You offered."

Theron's voice remained calm despite the tears in her eyes.

"I will never take a life that is not freely given."

Erik.

"It is."

Theron looked into his eyes.

Searching.

Making certain.

"You understand..."

"...you may not survive."

Eirik smiled sadly.

"I know."

He thought of Aiden laughing.

Helping injured wolves.

Protecting frightened pups.

Calling him a friend.

Trusting him.

"I've already spent too long living for myself."

He knelt slowly.

"This..."

"...let this be for him."

Theron closed his eyes.

Moonlight gathered around both of them.

Gentle.

Warm.

Nothing like the violent power from before.

The light touched Eirik's chest.

Then Aiden's.

Not taking.

Asking.

Eirik whispered,

"I give it."

Only then—

did the Moon answer.

Silver light flowed from Eirik.

Not all at once.

Like water finding its river.

It crossed into Theron.

Then through the bond.

Into Aiden.

The shadows surrounding Aiden recoiled instantly.

Nyx stepped back.

His eyes widened.

"...Impossible."

The life force wasn't being stolen.

It was being...

shared.

Freely.

No domination.

No sacrifice was required.

Only choice.

Theron never looked away from Aiden.

"Love..."

he whispered,

"...has never been possession."

The moonlight brightened.

"It has always been a gift."

Nyx's shadows began trembling.

"Node."

His voice cracked.

For the first time.

"That's not how the cycle works."

Theron answered quietly,

"It isn't."

Nyx staggered backward.

"Love creates suffering."

"Sometimes."

"It creates attachment."

"Yes."

"It creates grief."

Theron.

"It does."

Nyx almost shouted now.

"Then why?"

"Why continue?"

The Moon God's expression softened.

"Because love also creates courage."

Another pulse of moonlight spread across the clearing.

"It creates family."

The dead grass began turning green again.

"It creates forgiveness."

Ronan slowly walked to stand beside Eirik.

Not as a jailer.

Like a brother.

"And..."

Theron smiled through her tears.

"...it gives broken people another chance."

Nyx looked at Eirik.

The betrayer.

Still offering his own life.

He looked at Theron.

The god.

Refusing vengeance.

Then at Aiden.

Still dying...

...for the people he loved.

His entire philosophy fractured.

If love always led to destruction...

Why were they choosing it...

Even now?

The shadows surrounding Nyx flickered violently.

Cracks spread through the darkness like broken glass.

"...Node..."

His knees hit the ground.

"This..."

"...cannot..."

"...exist."

For the first time in countless cycles...

Nyx doubted himself.

The darkness around the battlefield began collapsing into itself.

Retreating.

Unraveling.

The forest breathed again.

Birdsong slowly returned.

The moonlight faded into a gentle glow.

Theron immediately caught Aiden as the shadows released him.

He pulled him close.

Holding him as if letting go would shatter the world.

"...Stay with me."

No answer.

Theron pressed his forehead against Aiden's.

Listening.

Waiting.

Praying.

The bond remained.

Faint.

Almost invisible.

But it was still there.

A heartbeat.

Weak.

Fragile.

Enough to hope.

But not enough...

...for Aiden to open his eyes.
