Chapter 35 - CHAPTER 35: NOT JEALOUS

Alex's p.o.v

They placed the pen on the table; they have been brainstorming their group assignment and now they have a class in fifteen minutes. They have new additions to the group which means she now has to get used to more personalities and workstyles. Peter, he sucks. Sandy is constantly distracted. Cowen is plain out stupid and is just hanging on to continue this course. Qin is always late. Win, he works hard. Kade is incompetent. Josh knows more about the topic and therefore is group leader. Leo does his part but for the most part hishead in the clouds. Lucas is a mediator. She is basically the secretary; record keeper and she needeveryone's individual parts in order to write the introduction. She already handed in her research paper and population so they basically wait for three people to submit their parts before they can move on with the project.

Noah: <

She was annoyed with her entire group; the sooner they finish the sooner they can get off each other'sbacks. But no... dummy, incompetent and leader has not fulfilled their end of the bargain. She unlocks her screen and she smiles for a second, why is she smiling at a text?

Noah: <

She smiles at the phone; she shakes her head and goes back to packing her bag Lucas got all up in her face. How can they not look bothered? Lucas is a genius and Leo his incredible intelligent they should know the significance of submitting late.

"Ah. Leo. Do you see that?"

Now they are both in her face taking annoying turns to speak, she hates it with the fae do it and she hates it when they do it...

"Are you not curious Lucas?"

"Indeed I am. Alex your good mood, does it have to do with Toby's best friend? What is his name again?"

What about her mood says she's 'good?' She grabs her bag and moves to their next class, which is next door. They are the first to arrive, Mrs Calum communicated with the group that she will be thirty minutes late,so she's stuck with them.

"Mmm. Is it Noa. Nay. Navin. Nee-"

"For the last time it is Noah." She fell right into their trap because...

"So, do you have a thing going with this, Noah?" -Lucas

"No."

"He might get bored of you and leave you." Lucas warns but she just shrugs, if its meant to be Noah will not rush her to anything.

"He won't."

"What makes you so sure?" -Lucas

"His a golden retriever."

"So, you like him." -Leo

"I did not say that."

"Are you two friends?" -Lucas

"I would never consider dating a friend."

Time stopped and she slowly turned to face her friends, she answered way too fast there. Leo's smile faded replaced by a forced one.

"You've considered dating him," he lets out a humourless laugh. "I knew you would never choose me, don't look so sad." -Leo

She honestly never intended to hurt Leo. She does not regret her words because they are true, but she could have expressed everything better than she did.

"I didn't mean how that came out."

"It's fine, we did not give you a chance to filter your words." He huffs and looks at the clear board, "don't lead him on." -Leo

"I'm not."

"So, what are you?" -Lucas

"Nothing."

Mrs Calum walks in, and so does a class of students, burying the conversation instantly. She immediatelydistances herself from the topic and slips into her thoughts. She introduced a concept to Mrs Calum that she later pitched to one of her science researchers. Shalom studied her new approach with interest before partnering with her to research the first steps of chronic cell breakdown. She has seen his high-achieving credentials, and his personality is calm and welcoming; she has learned a lot from being exposed to his knowledge. Although she is not interested in clinical research, this idea has sparked her curiosity.

Picture if Cannabis sativa and Nyxvines had a baby. She used her free will to experiment in the fae world. What is considered an invasive flower picked between cracked stones near riverbanks is probably useful to humans based on its properties when combined. Cannabis helps with pain relief, reduces nausea, improves appetite, and helps with sleep and anxiety. Nyxvines have thin, vine-like stems that does nothing for the supernatural but are considered parasites. What if they can be used in correcting the immune system to distinguish self from threat? People with autoimmune diseases are expected to suffer in agony but are handed painkillers to silence the symptoms.

No one knows where the plant comes from since the final product is a combination of the two plants with different roles. Shalom researched, trying his best to identify the indigenous plant that he believes can be a link to assisting countless other illnesses she never considered, including reordering cancer cells and disrupting how viruses hide. They are doing beta experiments with willing participants who want to try anything to save their loved ones, and so far, the study is gaining steady results. At first no hospital wanted to be part of the research experiment, but Polmed took a chance on them and now they also partnered with the business higher ups. They will grow their hospital and create a special unit for diagnostic medicine. Shalom an Mrs Calum benefited monetarily wise and have gained a ton of recognition.

Poachers wanted to get the plants and replicate them for their own agenda, so she stretched the truth by saying it is a fungus that grows in the cracks of rock near the riverbank, which is not a lie just from a different dimension. The point is it is a one-of-a-kind drug with steady results. Now she can publish her paper, of course crediting her professor, researcher, and her fae sister for introducing her to the "annoying" flower and allowing her to bounce her ideas off them. The money she receives goes directly to a trust she chose to only access for tuition and nothing else.
