Chapter 2: Awakening to New Light
Chapter Text
Chapter 2: Awakening to New Light
.
.
.
Rimuru POV:
—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.
.
.
It had been awhile since I felt this sensation. The sensation of reincarnation. This seemingly inescapable darkness surrounds me; enveloping me in the infinite embrace of the dimensional gaps.
After taking my position as the god presiding over all of creation I expanded the reaches of existence, but as I increased its size I also added more barriers to separate parts of creation. Those barriers were dimensional gaps. Infinite expanses of pure emptiness; pieces of reality devoid of all life that merely served as a way to mitigate interference between realities.
I didn't want the Cardinal World to limit the growth or diversity of other worlds, universes, and other aspects of reality. I took inspiration from Ramirus and Veldanva in how I would structure these different parts of reality that I would sector off into layers.
I reigned supreme over all of creation; known and unknown. Past, present, and future. These were all things I could dictate. If I were to sum my existence to other pieces of reality beyond the dimensional gap I would be defined as one thing simply– The Manifestation of Fate and of the End.
I could be called a god in the eyes of all but each reality was left to develop unrestricted by me or the VoTW. This meant beings could grow to the status of 'god' in the eyes of the people among the different realities. I did this out of curiosity; I wished to see how far other people could and would go.
Alas there was a single barrier, a singular wall they would never overcome. They would never be able to surpass the dimensional gap; to surpass the endless void that existed before the barrier of their reality touched the dimensional gap.
Frankly I had no clue what level of reality Ciel, Velz, and myself would be reincarnating into. I left it to 'Fate'. If I knew the layer of reality we would be reincarnating in knowledge of all of that reality's pasts, presents, and futures would begin to flood my mind. That alone would ruin this short life we were intending to experience.
I wanted to avoid knowing who I would meet, when I may, where I might be, and how my relationships could change due to this new life in another world. I liked the idea of being unaware of what my life may hold.
It was the reason I never wanted to accept true omniscience but alas here we are; a good thing did come with this change in me– I can control things I couldn't properly before and at least I have the knowledge of how to curb or mitigate my foresight.
I can only hope or wish for one thing- I pray that when I open my eyes; when I see the world I will reside I may be blessed with a fruitful life. I don't need much; just a nice place to relax after so long would be lovely.
I pray that I will be able to look upon this life fondly and that I may experience new things- more than anything I wish; I wish for a small moment to just breathe.
Closing my mind I laid back calmly as I let the embrace of rebirth wash over me. I let the stresses, anxieties, and my anticipations wash away. A mimicked sensation; one like when you close your eyes to fall asleep enveloped me as a calm came to my heart- to my soul.
At the very least the surprise I left Ciel and Velz will be a treat to see their reactions. Yet, I have this odd feeling- interference but from where?
I didn't know why at the time but I could at least tell– this life would not be so simple, despite that it prove fruitful in many ways.
.
.
.
Velzard Pov:
—------------------------------------------------------------------
.
.
.
We survived that escapade- it was not without cost though.
The cost and sacrifice; the person lost was of no care to me, this seemed true for Ciel. Despite this we both knew that the loss had an effect on Rimuru.
He acted like it didn't bother him but it was clear that it was eating away at him. Piece by piece parts of him were dyed in the colors of despair and apathy. We could feel it but he made it clear he didn't regret anything and would've made the same choice again and again if he had to.
He would've made it earlier- this was his only regret. Just as we were worried for the endless pain he endured literally and metaphorically he too worried about us. To be truthful I didn't enjoy the pain; the forceful reincarnations but for him. I'd do it again without a second thought.
It does bother me knowing of someone who doesn't exist and was made to have never existed but I can tolerate that feeling as in the end- we're still together; Rimuru, Ciel and I.
A price is paid for everything– that is life.
Just as that fact remains true another synonymous with it remains just as true; after struggle and hardship one will be rewarded.
The reward for this hardship is simple - rest.
A time away from all of our responsibilities and the shackles of life that we must abide by each day. Instead we will experience a new life. See a new sun, a new sky, and new places.
Rimuru needed this. I won't deny that I wanted a break myself but he needs one- this break is as much for him as it is for Ciel and I.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous or excited. I'm oddly looking forward to this new life. It's sad I won't see Velgrynd, Veldora, or any of those I created close relationships with but this is a chance. A chance to forge new bonds and see new things.
I do have a single worry despite this all.
Rimuru wanted Ciel to be reborn as well; while I agree with her getting to see and experience new things on her own. I worry; I worry about how he'll be when he's all alone with his thoughts. Ciel and I– nowhere to be seen.
Just him and his new environment. Despite my anxieties regarding this I believe Rimuru will be fine. At the very least we can always talk to each other in our dreams until we are together physically again, that was a compromise Ciel and myself were unyielding on.
A static shock reverberated inside of my very being as I could tell instinctually- I, we had crossed the dimensional gap separating our world from the rest of existence.
One~
Two~
Three~
Moments continued to pass. It felt like time was moving so slow, so peaceful yet I could feel it. My time spent in this endless void of nothingness, the space between realities and dimensions would but come to an end momentarily.
I felt tense before this but I knew these feelings would get me nowhere. So I did the only logical thing- I let the void envelop me, to subsume me.
It wouldn't take long for me to let the void's embrace truly take hold of me. It felt oddly comforting- reminiscent of Rimuru's embrace which made it easier to relax into.
Relaxation was not the only feeling I felt as I let the void embrace me.
I could feel almost claustrophobic; I felt small, enclosed, and fragile.
Sensations; genuine sensations came to me as I fully accepted the embrace. Not but a moment later I felt something change as it felt like thousands of eyes peered down on me, boring into my very soul- judging me, praising me. The gaze's presence lingered on me. The gaze felt so welcoming, affectionate, and amused. So many emotions expressed by a faceless and unseen gaze.
I wanted to question it but that was a chance I wouldn't get as a seering sensation filled my body. Everything looked so unfathomably bright as if I was staring into a thousand stars.
I could feel my body now. It was done; I'd been reborn but it wasn't all nice since I felt my body's insatiable desire to wail and cry from the pain of the bright lights I had yet to even gaze at and the sensation of air invading my lungs.
My body having to work on its own; support of an egg or a mother no longer being supplied. It applied immense strain and stress on what I could tell was my feeble frame.
Wait…
I forcefully opened my eyes; the seering sensation burning my eyes far more intensely than previously. Blinking frantically I tried to make my eyes adjust to the light.
I could feel my body's instinct to cry. I truthfully wanted to not cry but I doubted I could truly control that, as I had acquired my answer.
I was reborn as a humanoid, likely a human and I knew how human babies were from Rimuru and Ciel's telling of children's instincts.
My eyes after much struggle adjusted to the blinding lights and the world around me could only be explained as- beautiful. The colors were so vibrant, the room despite simple decor radiated a sensation of calm. I wanted to continue to survey the room but my body had little if no motor capabilities currently; a reality I was going to change immediately by force if necessary- this lack of ability to carry myself is embarrassing frankly.
"She's awake it seems." A voice filled my ears; the language they spoke was one I never heard before but I gleaned the meaning from the events surrounding me. This voice was quite raspy and unamused, almost annoyed as if they had better things to be doing.
I assumed it likely was something along the lines of 'She's finally awake' or 'She has awoken'.
I would call myself quite intelligent so I was unbothered by the idea of learning a new language.
The words sounded similar to what Rimuru called 'English' but I couldn't be sure as I had little knowledge on its intricacies. At the very least the annunciation and tone seemed similar so I would use that as a base rather than cheat by using [Magic Sense] to auto translate the language for me.
"It seems so." Another voice filled my ears. This one was much more feminine in nature, I could tell from the softer tones and vocals but it was clear that the voice sounded mildly unbothered.
"I'll take her under my wing." A third voice similar to the last chimed in. This one however sounded younger, less mature, but more warm and welcoming.
I tried to decipher the language and its meaning. My current context was weak at best but I had an idea of what they could be saying based on tone and mannerisms displayed in their voices.
Frankly however I was still more interested in investigating but I knew this conversation at the very least was regarding me, it was of great importance, and it included a male and two females.
Father, mother, and sibling or servant were my assumptions.
"Her name will be Velzard. Velzard Aurae." I knew immediately without room to question what was said. Frankly to anyone it would be at least mildly clear. It was the name I was given. Velzard Aurae.
Thankfully I have the same general name from the Cardinal World. I didn't quite like the idea of a new name. A set of footsteps grew closer as I saw a woman looking down at me.
Her gaze was unwavering, somewhat cold. A pair of gray eyes stared down on me but her expression remained somewhat warm, comforting, and almost hopeful.
"I'll take my sister with me. End of story."
She pulled me into her arms and gently cradled me, my head nestled on her shoulder letting me see the other figures who were in the room before I peacefully fell asleep in her arms.

Chapter 3: What Creates A Family
.
.
.
Reynolds Leywin POV:
—-----------------------------------------------------------
.
.
.
If you asked me when I was younger if I was going to have a family or find the love of my life, I might have laughed at you. I was rambunctious growing up; I left home quickly and became an adventurer. I wanted to see and experience more than the small town I grew up in.
Life has an odd way of doing things; the strings of fate that guide us have odd ways of tying knots or creating immense changes in our perceptions.
I got into a lot of trouble as an adventurer as all good adventurers do. I got to see so much more of the world than I had before. Good and bad; I got to see it all. The beauty and horror but despite the bad times or moments I look on those experiences fondly.
In those moments of struggle I was able to learn something, see something, and experience something.
So much of the world became clearer to me as I continued adventuring. Not everything was perfect, nothing was perfect but the feeling of grasping something with my own hands and seeing new parts of life is something beautiful for a lack of a better term.
My time with the Twin Horns; Adam, Angela, Durden, Jasmine, Helen, Lensa, and Alice. These years we spent together are something I know I'll cherish forevermore. I thought that everything was perfect for a time when all 8 of us were together… The life of an adventurer isn't a simple one though.
Death and despair are lurking around every corner, you see and experience so many things you couldn't begin to imagine in normal day to day life as if they were simple parts of life.
Though after all my years adventuring, all these countless experiences and trials we've faced- this is one I have no idea where to begin with in terms of handling it.
"Who are you people?" Standing before us is a child. Normally that wouldn't be an odd occurrence as children are everywhere in the towns and cities but not in the heart of the Beast Glades.
"I will ask again. Who are you?" The boy looks no older than 2, maybe 3 years old but there's much that is odd about him. Aside from being a child in the middle of the Beast Glades unsupervised he's surrounded by a mountain of corpses. The corpses of various mana beasts ranging from E-rank beasts to C-rank beasts. Nothing the average adventurer couldn't handle but something I never thought I'd see a child sat in the midst of.
I am at a loss as to how to approach this situation, something I can tell is a dilemma most of the Twin Horns are facing.
A child drenched in the blood of beasts with no adults in sight– I grew sickened at the thought that he may have been abandoned in the heart of the Glades, his parents or family casting him away left to die.
"We're adventurers." Oddly and quite unexpectedly Jasmine spoke up first. Jasmine was generally quite reserved and kept to herself- her stepping forward first is quite a surprise but it could be she feels a kinship with the boy oddly enough.
"Obviously, but that wasn't the question. So I will ask it clearer." The boy's eyes narrowed as his face contorted in a way I wouldn't expect of a child. A look of cold contemplation filled his face. His eyes emanated an odd feeling of power, their golden glow and somewhat feline appearance felt judgemental and analytic as they stared intently towards us.
"Are you friend or foe?" As the question escaped his lips a violet glow emanated from his body. It washed over him in subtle waves and these waves left an odd feeling in my chest. The boy was on guard, it was clear he didn't trust us.
I understood based on what he may have gone through that he wouldn't be so easily trusting. We could easily appear to him as a threat rather than people who he could ask for help.
A chuckle filled the air as I looked over towards Adam, the source of the laugh. I internally sighed as this was characteristic of him, he always found some sort of comedic relief in everything unexpected. It was both a good and bad thing.
In this case- bad.
"C'mon kid don't be so on guard. We're the Twin Horns, an adventuring party." I felt the urge to smack Adam for his terrible word choice that would lead to easy misunderstandings. I knew his intention to calm the boy down but his wording could've used some work.
Adam's words didn't seem to please the boy though as his guard remained steadfast and strong. He clearly took Adam's poor choice of words as most unaware of his personality would take them.
"Miss what's your name?" Adam, having taken a few steps towards the boy, stopped dead in his tracks with a look of shock on his face. He was being ignored and at least it seemed Jasmine's approach left the boy with more comfort than Adam.
"Jasmine. Jasmine Flamesworth, A-Class Adventurer." She answered calmly and waited patiently with a somewhat expectant look on her face awaiting the boy's response. I was a bit taken aback that she fully introduced herself like she did but I didn't question.
The boy stared intently for a moment, his gaze seemingly analyzing Jasmine as if trying to find any lies in her statements. I don't know why but before this boy I had the feeling I shouldn't regard him as a simple child. He radiated some cool confidence as he spoke and the corpses of mana beasts surrounding him helped greatly in altering how I perceived him.
"Jasmine…" He seemed pleased as he pondered a moment before he spoke, "Can I ask a favor of you?" Jasmine wordlessly nodded, the boy looked pleased as the waves of purple surrounding him dissipated. He almost seemed like a normal boy for a moment if not for the fact he was drenched in blood.
"Can you-" The boy's confidence dissipated as exhaustion seemed to wash over him before he tried finishing his request. "Take me w-" Unable to finish his sentence the boy collapsed amidst the dead beasts. His request, despite incomplete, was heard by everyone and Jasmine seemed to have got the message quick enough to catch him before he fell face first into a pile of beast guts.
"I accept this request~Rimuru" Jasmine gently carried the boy in her arms as walked back towards us. Oddly she spoke the boy's name but before I could ask how she knew Adam spoke up.
"How'd you know the kids name? He never said it."
"It's written on his collar. His eyes motioned towards his collar before he passed out." I hadn't noticed the small shift in the boy's gaze that Jasmine did. Given her attention to detail and superior perception it wasn't surprising she'd noticed a small motion like that.
"Adam, we really have to work on that wording of yours." Durden sighed heavily as he reprimanded Adam for his choice of words. Everyone got a small chuckle out of this as Adam acted oblivious.
"What?"
After taking a moment to collect ourselves we examined the area looking for any signs of activity. Footprints, broken branches, you name it but we couldn't find anything off aside from where we met the boy.
We were all at a loss as to what transpired here but it was clear that the boy wasn't so simple and his situation was in a word~ Complex.
We decided to go to a safe place and camp for the night. We would be postponing this mission so we could assist this boy, Rimuru.

3rd Person ~> Ciel POV:
—-----------------------------------------------------------------
.
.
.
"Young Miss, it's time to wake." No response was returned.
"Young Miss?" Once again no response, "Coming in, pardon my intrusion." The young woman sighed as she looked towards her, the young lady still asleep in bed. Not a single care in the world, her sleeping face looked peaceful beyond belief as she slept soundly unbothered by all.
"Young Miss, I must apologize but I need you to get out of bed. You have a long day ahead of you" A small smile crossed the woman's face as she internally apologized before tearing open the blinds and letting the bright morning sun flood into the room in an instant.
The girl groaned slightly as she sat herself up looking towards the maid. "Good morning Merial, apologies. I was in the midst of a lovely dream."
.
.
"It's alright Lady Ciel, I merely entered early today since you have a longer itinerary for the day." I regarded Merial with a smile, she was quite a sweet woman. She didn't enjoy enforcing rules onto me or making me follow through with menial tasks that didn't interest me. Despite this she was very punctual. We got along swelly due to these traits of hers.
It was also a fact that I was just pretending to sleep hoping to see how Rimuru and Velzard were. Frankly Rimuru should've interfered in his own reincarnation so he didn't deal with the issue he is currently.
It's been 3 years since I reincarnated into this world. These years have been quite entertaining to say the least. For starters the magic here is quite unrefined and lacking in development but the nature of the mana and its functions are quite fascinating to say the least. I do find the nature of its deviants and division quite intriguing but it appears that very few people know much beyond the basics.
Returning my gaze back towards Merial she held a small cup in her hands and over her arm she had draped was a set of clothes. I assumed she took the liberty of deciding my clothes for me today due to the tasks I have today. "Thank you for making a cup of tea for me Merial and choosing my clothing for today."
"It's nothing Lady Ciel, I just wanted to ensure that you had the proper time and energy to mentally steel yourself for today. I am aware your excitement regarding the tasks you'll have to do is effectively 0."
"You know me so well Merial. Now, how is-" Before I could finish my sentence a small figure burst into my room. Her face wore a large smile. I couldn't help but chuckle as she paused abruptly, forgetting her courtesy.
Taking a step back she knocked on the door giving me an expectant look. Her Crimson red eyes glistened from the light of the morning sun. "Come in." I felt a smile tug across my face as her eyes lit up for a moment.
Not wasting a moment she ran towards my bed and jumped up next to me. I couldn't help but find this action quite adorable, "Ciel, are you ready for today?"
"Not yet, I still have to get dressed like you do." She looked at me for a moment as I teased her before she slightly pouted finally understanding what I said.
"We can get ready together, how does that sound?" She whipped her head back towards me and nodded excitedly as her maid Nessa walked through the door into my room with a small sigh and a smile across her face.
"Sure we can do that Caera." I couldn't help but pat her head, she was quite adorable acting like this. I did feel a sting in my heart at imagining how she'd stop acting like this to her big sister eventually and would mature- become interested in boys.
I sighed mentally as I think I finally understood the feeling that Benimaru and Shuna have.
"Nessa, Merial. Would that be alright for Caera and I to get ready together?" I looked towards our respective maids as they both regarded each other for a moment before nodding.
"Looks like we can. Want me to tie your hair again?"
"Please." With a nod we got out of my bed and began putting on the clothes we had for today. It was a simple white long sleeved shirt, one generally used for exercise or training and a pair of simple black pants with simplistic shoes. It appeared that today we were going to be training or having some kind of exam done. We usually wore these types of clothes for those occasions but I assumed it'd be the former.
After putting on our clothes with Nessa and Merial's assistance Caera sat down in front of me so I could tie her hair up. Looking towards Nessa she handed me a hair tie as I began to pull back Caera's hair. She had beautiful midnight blue hair that draped down in waves, the tips of her hair somewhat curling outwardly.
Her hair was silky smooth and lush to the point that most women would feel quite envious. My little sister was quite adorable but I hadn't a single doubt that once she matured she'd have grown into a beautiful woman. A woman who would draw the eyes of all, not just for her status but for her beauty and much more.
Pulling her hair back I began to softly brush her hair. She woke up each morning with quite wild hair styles, something I think most women are glad they don't have to deal with. I know at least I myself am glad I don't have to and Velzard would likely mimic these thoughts of mine.
Caera sat silently staring out the window at the morning sky while I brushed her hair. These moments of peace and tranquility I spend are things I never thought I'd experience before. I suppose having lived this way for a small while I may have gleaned the reasons Rimuru wanted me to reincarnate into a body of my own as well.
Caera and I spent a few minutes silently as I finished brushing her hair and began to braid it together into a loose fishtail braid letting a few strands of hair fall down out of the braid.
Merial came in with perfect timing as she handed Caera a mirror. She sat silent for a moment as she looked at her hair before turning to me with a smile filling her face.
"Thank you Ciel." She paid me for my hard labor in tying her hair and dealing with her bed head with a warm smile and a small hug.
It was an acceptable payment, a hug that I would reciprocate for but a moment before we would have to head down for breakfast.
"Thank you for tying Lady Caera's hair as always Lady Ciel."
"It's fine Nessa, I quite enjoy these moments and I think you do too. Right Caera?" She responded with a small nod as she ran her fingers over the braid.
This was nice. Being an elder sister, it was quite a rewarding existence. It might be due to the fact that Caera doesn't act like a brat or a rampaging toddler but whatever the reason may be. I enjoy this and these moments are times I doubt I will be able to forget.
Though I have to ask myself. What is Rimuru thinking?
He intentionally Reincarnated both Velzard and I but didn't bother thinking of his own rebirth. He still seems to put us before himself. I appreciate his gestures but I don't think the start to his life is something he should've dealt with.
That's a card he shouldn't be dealt. I won't complain but I do hope to get some answers and maybe see him soon.
But I do wonder. Are Velzard and Rimuru in Alacrya or somewhere else?

Chapter 4: The Most Ancient of Secrets
.
.
.
3rd Person POV:
—------------------------------------------------------------
.
.
.
A violet hew filled the cavernous civilization. A subtle feeling of eminence and gander radiated throughout. Sensations of all of life expressed in a small confined area. So many different aspects of life could be gleaned in the small hovels that lined the highways of violet runes.
Idle chatter could be heard from all places in the cavern. Conversations on the aspects of life and death; the ideas of existence. Chats about what is confined and unaffected by space-time.
Concepts beyond general comprehension filled the causal chats of the people whom lived peacefully within the cavern and its seemingly endless expanse.
Peace, a concept loved and cherished by these people.
Every aspect of their research and delving into the unfathomable was solely for the purpose of convenience and peace. Despite this they didn't deal with conflict often from people who coveted their knowledge and envied their potential.
This peaceful life embraced by the grace of violet; the blessings of aether filled their lives. Each day came with unfathomable revelations about the nature of reality and the world.
Each day to these people is seen as a blessing and another day to connect with reality once more. Today the cavern was oddly frantic, it's a momentous day. These people will be welcoming into the world and the embrace of violet eminence the next lord.
It was predestined centuries prior that the lord be would appear on a day where the grace of violet; the radiance of aether would glow in a golden light in the center of the cavern. The runes and markings lining the skin of these people muddled be natural occurring aether creating an orb of pure unfiltered raw aether.
A feeling of comfort washed over the people as they gathered in the town center; the feeling was like that of a warm embrace of a loving parent. In the center of town a woman laid in labor. The people were starstruck. They had long foregone the idea of natural reproduction and simply created their children and young from aether with vessels long since crafted to perfection. It wasn't fully abandoned but most opted to create children as opposed to birthing them.
The woman didn't cry as a violet aura covered her body soothing any pains and aches she may have experienced. Not a soul nor herself had beseeched the aether to soothe her. Something or someone else was. The people immediately began theorizing and two ideas were debated, accepted as the only answers.
Either the would be lord was so bonded and graced by the violet embrace that they were already in the process of communing with aether. The other idea was that the aether itself, clearly conscious so as the people agreed, was doing this of its own volition to assist the mother in birthing the soon to be lord.
None knew or could see anything about the lord they were to welcome. Gender, dispotions, personality, the actions they'd take– nothing, they knew nothing but one simple fact. They knew one thing about their lord, they would usher in a new era and express a regal eminence unlike no other.
Though even as they waited eagerly a single doubt and worry filled their hearts. The mother. She was one of a rare disposition; she didn't fully embrace the idea of 'Peace via Abstinence' as she put it. Would the mother's disposition affect the decisions and thoughts of the lord or would the lord embrace the ideals of the rest of the people. None contemplated the third possibility.
The possibility of the lord already having a will of his own. One that wouldn't be altered so easily by the piteous ideas and desires these people expressed.
The lord be had no disposition for Conquer despite it being such a task they'd find simple. The lord was one who loved peace like these people but refused to remain stagnant and underprepared. They would be one who embraces peace but accepts the need for power to create and maintain peace.
After all as they would say, 'Power dictates who rules over who and what nature the world will follow. Peace is only made when the one at the top of all has the power to exert his will if need be. Power without purpose is meaningless, purpose without power is mere delusion. Power must come with purpose, for one without the other holds no value.'
Peace doesn't come because you decide to not grow power, especially when your knowledge and the power you could embrace is so so enviable. One must know their own worth and the worth they may hold in the eyes of others, so that they would not be consumed.
.
.
After a long arduous few hours passed a blast of violet fog filled the cavern as speckles of gold fell in waves like snow falling on a cold winter eve. The fog slowly subsided as the people felt a sense of danger wash over them. A feeling they'd ignore as they saw the woman walk from the center of a golden light holding a baby in her arms.
A violet glow gently embraced the child. Runes had yet to be engraved and formed onto his body but despite this it felt as if aether was flowing like water in the child's small body. It was like channels and pathways had been engraved into his very being to let aether flow naturally through themself.
Anticipation filled the hearts of all as they awaited the reveal. Was it a King or a Queen? Would they be guided by a lion or a lioness? The mother Azuray looked at the baby in her arms warmly, a small smile filling her face. Gentle eyes stared down before she regarded the people eagerly awaiting answers. Some people thought they would go insane as the anticipation ate away at them.
"It's a boy. A beautiful baby boy. His eyes glow golden like the light that embraced his birth in this world. A violet hew flows like water rushing over his gaze as if he's been taken into the deeps of a boundless sea of aether in all its violet eminence. He is truly special." She paused as the people exploded in celebration.
The lord was to be a King– their king, one and only. He was championed not only by a boundless and unfathomable sea of aether but by the brilliant light of gold that ushered in a new era and his birth.
"Azuray what would we call the lord-be by, what is his name?" Her eyes remained fully on her child. She didn't regard the people eagerly waiting with her full attention. Still she entertained the query and answered as she walked through the crowd to where she lived.
"Rimuru. Rimuru Niscience. His name came to me as I held him in my arms for the first time. It was like a revelation, a blessing of his birth and a welcoming to the lord by the aether itself. His name makes reference to his regal eminence and disposition as a leader to usher a new era."
"The lord-be had his name granted to him by the aether itself!" The cavern erupted in celebration as they planned a grand festival to commune with and thank the world for welcoming their lord and blessing his birth.
"I thought she would grant him her last name of Moria."
"It seems that his birth is one even aether itself awaited and wished for."
"What if his birth was an unexpected variable and was welcomed as if he was to be higher than all else."
Conversations filled the cavern as all the people felt elated and celebrated the birth of their lord. The one who would be the King of the Djinn. One embraced and accepted by aether more than any other they'd seen to date.
Azuray continued her trek home silently while she held Rimuru tightly in her arms. She was elated to have him, she would not be alone any longer. Her life was one of loneliness due to her denial of the normal life the Djinn lived and how they acted in regards to attaining strength.
"I'm sorry Rimuru. My child, I truly wished I could've given you a better life but I know your life will not be one so kind…" Azuray pulled her child deeper into her embrace as tears washed down her face. A feeling of sorrow and regret filled her soul. "I truly wanted to raise you, but I know upon my name Moria that fate is cruel to all and will be especially to you as grand purpose fills your life."
Moria a name connected to fate, a name thrust upon her for denying the fate the Djinn wished but a name that also connected to the world of knowledge and paths of aether she tried to grasp. She wished to grasp 'Fate' with her own hands, knowing the grim fate that would befall her and her people.
Rimuru was not born to be the lord they expected. A lord he was but not the lord of the Djinn, he was a lord of all. He was not chosen by aether, he chose aether.
"The second meaning and nature of your name, one granted by the world itself. The number of the beast, one who is like a devil, a demon of judgment. I don't wish to see you suffer. I know I won't, I won't get the chance to raise you, to watch you grow." Azuray continued to speak apologetically to her child, one conceived of aether and flesh. The boy had not a father, he was fathered by aether itself. No living man could foster the strength this boy would contain so it was made so by fate that he need not one.
The violet ball of raw unfiltered aether hovered above, lording over the center of the cavern began to vibrate violently. It was as if it was panicking~ afraid. Something was coming.
"This soon will be g-" Azuray pressed her lips to her son's forehead as a blast reverberated in the cavern and the ground quaked.
"EVERYONE RUN! IT'S THE INDRATH CLAN!" Panic ensued as the Djinn, unprepared for the attack of the asuras, frantically tried to get away. An action that was too little, far far too late.
'They're already here, I wish I had a few more minutes but I suppose I knew. Fate is not so kind to those who do not grasp it with their own hands.' Azuray bit into her lip, drawing blood as she embraced Rimuru tightly while she curled herself into a ball to protect him, shielding him with her own body. Rock shattered and the ceilings of the cavern caved in crushing the humble hovels the Djinn lived in. The walls came crashing down like shattered glass crushing, bisecting, and eviscerating the peace loving people.
Red pools of blood covered the violet roads as the violet glow and light they shed off began to flicker.
Panic filled the Djinn as they frantically tried to run, hide, and escape the invaders. "Rimuru. I-I-I.." Azuray's voice quivered and quaked her body, shaking profusely as she shielded her son. She was terrified, but not of death, torture, or of any grim fate she would experience. She was terrified of leaving her son alone, being forced to abandon him so he would not become a tool for the assailants who hungered for the knowledge and power of aether. As such the Djinn who refused to grant them this knowledge were a nuisance and a parasite to them that they would be rid of.
"I'm sorry, I can't be your mother and show you the wonders of the world myself. I-I hope this will~" Azuray hesitated disgusted with the vile action she was going to commit. But she was a mother. It may not have been long but for her it didn't matter. For centuries she knew, Rimuru, he would be born of her but not sit in her embrace for more than a day. Unless she decided to shackle his fate, something she could never bring herself to do.
So she decided, hundreds of years prior, that she would prepare for this day. The day of his birth and her death. She wanted and tried to deny fate; she worked to alter it but to no avail. She gritted her teeth as she called out to the aether around her for assistance.
Her plea was heard as a violet barrier encompassed her and her son, entirely separate from reality. It was separate from Time and Space.
She coughed up blood from the toll of requesting such authority over reality beyond her control. Her request was granted solely since it was ordained to be so.
She would either die here for Rimuru, for her son– die as a mother or accept shackles and torture for herself and her son. She knew his connection to aether would be seen and the connection she had because of him. They would not be allowed to die but instead be made tools for experiments and probing of knowledge and insight.
Placing Rimuru on a small table as she continued to cough up blood profusely she limped; almost crawled towards a small cabinet she had hidden with a veil of thousands of intricate runes and engravings hiding it for untold years.
Pulling open the drawers she pulled out 4 objects. The first was a long curved black horn that reflected light like glass, like obsidian. It looked as if it had been snapped clean off of the head of a grand beast with no regard for the pain or damage it would cause. It was an item clearly obtained by an act of brutal violence with no pity for whatever she took the horn from.
The second was a black stone, the appearance was nothing to parade or display. It looked like a simple rock but this was no ordinary rock. It was something she stole from those who would be assailing her people, or well at least one of those related to those who would attack her people. Her face expressed hope as she held the stone in her hands, as if she held grand expectations for this stone.
The third was a dagger. The dagger was riddled with violet runes and engravings. Each engraving was formed with the base of other runes. It looked as if someone was writing while the words they wrote formed another word. Thousands of intricate patterns wrapped all around it that began to glow as Azuray held the dagger in her hands.
The last was a mana core, or what looked like a mana core. At the very least it was the pieces of a shattered core, one entire bereft of its once overflowing sea of mana.
Azuray was becoming delirious as she dragged herself and the items back towards Rimuru. Her breaths became more sporadic and her skin, the little of it that you could see behind the runes that covered her entirely began to turn pale as she was running out of blood.
Placing the shattered core and horn by Rimuru's side she tried to shallow the hesitation she had remaining. She steeled herself, her face expressing signs of insanity as she fully lost herself intentionally so she could do what she had to do.
"I don't deserve you, I wish I could've at least heard you call me mom once but I won't." Taking what would be her last deep breath and her last breath Azuray spoke one last meaningless line. "If you could, I would've asked you to call me mom once but I know you'll remember this and me in the future. I'm sorry Rimuru… Goodluck to you, live as you please Rimuru Tempest."
Gripping the dagger tightly, Azuray plunged the blade into her gut where a core would normally lay in the bodies of humanoid life. She choked on the pain and groaned as the dagger began its process.
The violet runes covering her body began to lose their glow and began to disappear as if they were being erased from her body. Inch by inch the runes faded and disappeared, their engraving falling into the gem on the handle of the dagger.
Excruciating pain filled her body, pain unfathomable. She felt as if thousands of knives were being stabbed into every single inch of her flesh repeatedly. While a searing and burning sensation radiated from the places where her runes once laid.
The feeling of her body deteriorating as her hundreds of years of life sustained by aether began to catch up with her. All strength in her body disappearing slowly but surely. She knew her time was short so she acted as quickly as she could. Trying to make no mistakes.
Her hand was painted red with blood and covered in wrinkles as her years caught up to her body unsustained by aether. Her hand quivered as she weakly put her hand over Rimuru, the small stone in her hand.
She pressed down onto him with all her strength as the stone settled into just below where his clavicles would converge. It was the best she could do, his body would accept the stone and assimilate it without her interference. A small look of satisfaction filled her face as she took the broken core into her left hand that still had its rune. A rune of spatial manipulation in some manner. The shattered core sat in her hand as what was left of her ability to beseech aether encompassed the core shattering it and letting it dissipate seemingly.
Looking into her son she knew she succeeded as purple and colorless lights filled his sternum. He would be able to form a core; she at least hoped this would help him.
She wanted him to have a chance to protect himself and a core of some manner would be the best chance he'd have to do that. She only had two final things to do. She grieved thinking of what she would do but her choices were limited yet clear.
She pulled the dagger from her chest as all her runes finally dissipated, she had mere moments left. The barrier she requested to exist fell apart as she and Rimuru were back with the flow of time and natural existence in space. She held the dagger in one hand and the black horn in the other. Weakly she pressed the dagger and the stone on the handle specifically against the horn consuming it in a cloud of black smoke.
The dagger felt immensely heavy in her hands as she awaited the final step. It was an agonizing few moments as she waited for the horn to be fully absorbed and the dagger to begin to collapse in on itself centered around the Violet and pitch black stone that now looked like a pearl.
If one looked deep into this pearl it would seem as if the pearl looked deep into you. Thousands of intricate writings, runes, and engravings filled the pearl like stone. Pressing the pearl against his lips she hoped Rimuru would understand her intentions.
He knew.
Taking the pearl into his mouth he swallowed it. Azuray caressed Rimuru's head as she thanked the highest heavens that she was able to succeed somewhat in her goal. A sad smile crossed her face as she thought of how soft Rimuru's hair was. The caress tousled his soft hair, making a mess of it as his hair grew longer in an instant he had a small head of luscious hair. A bitter feeling encompassed her final moments as the hair he had.
Its platinum color with tinges of violet and cerulean blue similar to her own was dyed in a pitch black hue. His hair would no longer show his and her own connection for his own safety until the day he feels truly powerful.
Rimuru's golden eyes looked towards his mother; they glistened slightly wet as he looked her in the eyes. The golden radiance and violet hue changed as a blood red almost carmine color came in their place, his pupils didn't change much aside from the loss of the violet waves. A more feline than man-like gaze filled his eyes. A trait seen in predators, those at the top of food chains was expressed in his eyes showing who he was. He was no prey, he was predestined to be at the top of the food chain his slit pupils and narrow eyes expressed this clear as day.
'He almost looks like a disgusting Asura now. I can only hope he doesn't hate me for this.'
Azuray's eyes began to grow heavy and her vision blurred as she tried to get one last look at her son.
"Capture the woman and the boy. He-" A domineering voice barked out orders, a group of soldiers rushing to do the bidding of the one who ordered them came towards Azuray and Rimuru.
Everyone else in the cavern had either died, killed themselves, or detached from their vessels to hide in the tombs they made, The Relic Tombs so as to not let their insight and knowledge fall into the hands of those vile creatures who attacked them, a group of entirely peaceful people.
As Azuray's eyes fully closed she heard a voice in her head.
A mental connection and thought communication. The voice said a single line. "Thank you, I will not forget you. Thank you, mom." A final tear fell from her face as she died with a smile on her face, satisfied.
"I got the boy Lor-" A hand approached Rimuru as the soldier called towards his lord but he wouldn't finish his sentence as his lord screamed out at him, "ENCASE HIM! HE'S-'' Frustration and irritation filled the man's voice as he watched Rimuru blip from existence and his mothers body turned to ash in an instant.
The face of the violet eyed man expressed annoyance as he failed to gain anything, he sensed great insight and power from the boy. He hoped to take him and his mother for his research and experiments, but he at least felt he could be satisfied with taking the massive orb of raw aether floating in the center of the cavern.
He hoped to harvest it for power and take it into his own body~ hopefully to attain insight. He approached the massive orb of aether and reached his hand out towards it. He wanted to feel the power before he took it into his own body. He was practically salivating at the thought of the power he could gain from this. He may not have gained insight or knowledge directly but at least he'd have plenty of aether to take into himself.
Or so he thought. Just as he touched the orb a smile enveloping his face for a moment as he felt the power it held it began to quake. The orb sporadically sloshed around like a violent storm before just like the boy it blipped from existence though this time it came with a massive explosion that entirely leveled the cavern and everything that was once inside of it.
Any chance to find relics or items of interest was gone, all traces of aetheric runes and the presence of aether; gone. Everything he wanted was gone. Without a trace, a seething rage filled his mind at the turn of events. He didn't even regard the hundreds or his people who were eviscerated by the blast– practically atomized, made to look as if they hadn't existed before.
With a large irritated sigh he accepted the removal of a nuisance and begrudgingly returned to his domain.
.
.
A small orb floated in the air, it was invisible to all as if it was veiled in a cloak of invisibility. The passing winds went through the orb like it was intangible. But the orb did exist and in it sat a single soul. A boy who would be stuck for untold eons unable to act, move, or speak to anyone until its shell broke open.
The boy had no way of knowing when he would leave this orb but he accepted this turn of events. He wasn't angry to be trapped in this orb for an indeterminate amount of time, that didn't bother him.
The ability to not do anything or talk to anyone didn't bother him either. What did however bother him was what led to this entrapment or incarceration in this restricting orb. A silent rage filled his heart as he thought about the events that transpired.
He hadn't seen this event the whole way through from the perspective of his own body. All until the moment his mother requested the assistance of aether to help her save him he watched everything from a third person perspective.
He saw the cavern and the invasion by the Asura, by those vile beings he knew as the Indrath Clan. He watched as his mother shielded him and apologized to him profusely. An action that left him starstruck and perplexed, he didn't understand at first but soon would understand.
He quickly began to piece together who the Djinn were, who his people were. He respected their wills but not the way they went about it. Peace and convenience are great, but you need power to protect so you may maintain peace and dive into convenience.
He was aware his birth was seen as a call for celebration, something that didn't bother him. It did feel somewhat embarrassing and odd to be born and paraded as a lord right away but it wasn't a bad feeling. He at least thought that he would be able to live a nice life with these people.
They were people someone he knew would love to engage with and this prospect felt exciting to him but now he wouldn't be able to do that.
Rimuru knew instinctively Ciel and Velzard had not been born and it would not be for thousands of years that they would be. This did give him a bitter feeling but he thought that at the very least he would make the most of his time until he could meet them.
Maybe he would attain a new perspective on life and see different things that he would be able to show them later. Now a reality and dream he would not get to fulfill.
Rimuru felt sorrow as he saw those who would be his people slaughtered. He had yet to build relationships with them but still felt so connected to them, it was somewhat parasocial but he looked forward to learning about every single person that would be called Djinn. Now he wouldn't have this chance, he wouldn't experience life with them, he couldn't fulfill the wishes they had as a lord that they looked forward to meeting for so long.
It reminded him of his past experiences. The things he had once experienced so long ago. Moments that stuck to him and remain at the forefront of his mind.
But this, this moment felt so much worse. He would not be able to save these people. He could only curse the world at this fate that befalls those who would be his people.
Rimuru watched the whole situation from above, his consciousness was looking down at everyone from the orb of aether that coalesced above everyone in the center of the cavern. He felt as if the orb was a part of him, just like his body. He didn't understand it yet but he knew he was connected deeply to this particle and thing they called aether and the thing that the leader of the Indrath hungered for.
He could feel the pain of all his people, their sorrows, he heard their screams and cries for help. All of it, he felt everything and in the end when he granted his mom's wish sincerely he felt that vile creature in his eyes touch a part of him.
This action– it made him furious. He wanted to wring the neck of that man and drag him through the darkest pits of hell and send him to oblivion.
He vowed on his name as Rimuru Niscience he would grant that man and his people their penance. He would put them all, especially the lord on the road of perdition. He would grant them no forgiveness, mercy would be a word that was foreign to his dictionary when handling the Indrath clan, their lord, and the Asuras.
'I will kill you all as Rimuru Niscience. No, as Rimuru Moria Niscience. I accept her name Moira as part of me to finalize my vow to grant them the fate they deserve. A Destined Death.'
Time passed slowly as Rimuru tried to understand his physical state and the gifts his mother granted him.
He frankly could not understand even half of it. It was clear to him what Mana and Aether were. The functions of mana were quite easy to visualize and understand but the manner was foreign to him. Aether on the other hand was extremely odd. It had no real defined rules that he could figure out. It was an anomaly in his understanding.
His mother left him with knowledge in her last moments housed inside a piece of the orb she had him swallow. The knowledge was simple but unfathomably unhelpful in his ventures.
Aether was able to influence 3 main properties the Djinn called Spacium, Vivum, and Aevum. Or space, time, and life. Aether could not be manipulated but only requested of. Something that wasn't true for him. A fact that was already extremely odd. Beyond this it was made clear that the Djinn had created a few places called Relic Tombs that housed most is not all of their knowledge and ways to learn it. He wanted to find these places later and thankfully he knew where they laid in the world. Along with the creations the Djinn had made all across the world.
Getting there was the only issue. General ideas and locations could only get you so far in finding locations after years pass.
His mother told him of how to influence aether and that influencing it required something called insight. Insight was effectively an active understanding into the nature of an aspect of aether or a piece of it. Attaining insight was effectively like gaining enlightenment. Rimuru had advantages in understanding many parts and pieces relating to the aspects aether encompassed but that was a major downside since his mind would need to contain this insight.
Finally the Djinn engraved runes onto their bodies to use aetheric techniques and abilities. The runes substituted for what would be channels and pathways that other people had to use mana. Rimuru however had these pathways and channels but they were not suited for mana but for aether. A bonus and a negative.
Aether was clearly far more potent but mana was more diverse. Aside from the knowledge regarding aether he gained an understanding of the particles that laid in his sternum. Luminescent lights and violet embers filled his mind when he looked deep into himself and tried to sense what they were. He didn't know what they were for but a feeling of curiosity took over him as he decided to probe the lights and embers trying to guide them to each other in a ball-like shape. He remained in this state for a frustratingly long time. He was unaware of the time that had passed as he continued to focus on the collection of all the lights and embers.
One by one he willed them to move together and slowly but surely the thousands of embers and lights began to form a small ball. Something he decided to call a core, taking reference from the stories about cultivation he used to read on Earth from time to time. It was frustrating but enjoyable gathering the lights and embers together.
They had seemed to repel each other and push away from one another. The Violet embers were easier to pull together for him than the lights. The irritating part was as the violet embers came closer together and they made a larger and larger ball they pushed away the lights more violently.
'Dammit, how can I create a core with both these repelling forces? I've worked for an untold time on this but I've gotten no closer to collecting every light and ember together.' He pondered and thought deeply on what options he had. What could he do to not lose any of the light or embers?
'What did they do in cultivation stories? They had three main core points. The middle dantian that lies near the sternum, the upper dantian in your head- which wouldn't work I may destroy my brain if what I expect to happen happens, and the lower dantian near the pelvis…. The lower- Thats it!' It came to Rimuru like a revelation sent from heaven, despite him effectively being the definition of heaven he still thanked god.
He thanked himself? Even though he questioned it so to be clear he just said thanks to Veldanava to not make himself go through a midlife crisis. Sometimes the only choice is to avoid thinking too deeply on something, this was a thought he took seriously in this matter.
He decided to stop forcing the lights and embers to try and create a single large core and began to pull the lights down towards his pelvis or lower dantian. An action that while suited his desires was one that he would soon wish he didn't make.
He would create a flaw in himself. One he wouldn't be able to fix on his own, since his body would define it as a part of him. His perfect self would soon have an imperfection that was seen as a perfection.
After an indeterminate amount of time Rimuru was onto the final Violet Ember and final Luminescent Light. Mentally he took a deep breath as he dragged both the ember and light into their places. The cores he created with the embers and lights quaked for a moment before calming.
An odd calm came over the cores, they had yet to fully form Rimuru could tell. So he willed them to compress. 1, 2, 3 minutes passed, soon hours passed. What felt like days began to fly by before a wave of exhaustion washed over Rimuru and a blast of raw energy came out of Rimuru shattering the orb he once laid in. Falling quickly he landed on the grass terrain below him slightly dizzy.
As he looked around, information rushed into his head and a searing burn radiated from his nape. It felt as if a burning hot iron was pressed against his flesh and a rush of endorphins made him feel a sense of high as he absorbed what he innately knew of as insight.
"Brahma's Core. Noted."
He didn't need to question it. He knew what the insight was in regards to. It was an insight into the path of Vivum, the aspect of life. Rubbing his eyes he oriented himself trying to calm himself as exhaustion began to seep in, but he knew he couldn't rest. He could sense malice aimed at him. Shaking off his exhaustion to his best ability he looked around.
A collection of various beasts surrounded Rimuru. He was clueless as to what they could do but assumed a combative stance. "This is going to be a pain."
After 3000 long years Rimuru Moira Niscience has awakened.
