This is a work I'm cross-posting from FFN so the initial wave of chapters is not normal. I do post every Monday and Friday.

Chapter 1

Chapter Text

He was walking down the street one sunny afternoon in New York City, just taking a stroll. His name was James Wolf, a half European and half native American mix, hence his somewhat strange last name. He was a decent looking man, not head turning by any stretch though. Now as for why James was taking a stroll in the middle of the day in a three piece suit on a weekday? He had just left an interview that didn't go well, the fifth in three weeks.

James had recently graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in literature and had been trying to be hired by various publishing groups. He didn't care the position, editor, writer, copy boy, he just needed a job. Sadly, he wasn't having much luck. So he decided to stuff his too tight tie into his pocket and go on a walk.

The sun was shining and the city was relatively quiet and calm for New York. It was as he passed a building, a bank that he'd never entered, that something happened.

The bank suddenly blew up, an act of terror that was completely unexpected. The edge of the blast hit James, searing his skin on half of his body. The explosion also shot shrapnel that used to be part of the building, and a larger piece hit James in his lower body. So now James was crushed beneath a large piece of rubble, bleeding out, and burned severely on half of his body.

As he lay there, death only an encroaching inevitability, all James could do was think.

'Well, this sucks. All I want right now is for this burning to stop. To think I'd die in part from fire when I was so obsessed with characters that could control fire. Zuko was the shit. Don't know why I thought of that now' James thought to himself.

'Request confirmed: Acquisition of Skills Heat Resistance and Flame Attack Resistance is successful.

Request confirmed: Intense desire to control flames acknowledged. Acquisition of Unique Skill Essence of Flame is successful.' A voice spoke to James, though he barely registered it in the haze of pain.

James tries to move but soon decides against it. He heard sirens coming, but they're distant and he knows his injuries are too severe. Best case is he's permanently crippled and disfigured. James decided to lay back down and distract himself from the pain with contemplation.

'I wonder where I'll end up? Heaven being greeted by angels, or Hell being welcomed by demons of all sorts?' he wondered, contemplating his fate.

'Desire for Angelic and Demonic nature confirmed. Granting a form that merges both natures is successful.' The strange voice says.

'Wherever I go, I just hope I have a guide. I don't want my soul lost in the vastness of the world. If souls even exist at all' James thought, blood loss making him ramble.

'Request confirmed: Desire for a guide has resulted in successful acquisition of Extra Skill Sage.

Skill Sage has successfully evolved into the Unique skill Soul Sage.' The voice went on.

James' body spasmed in pain, making him grunt from the agony the action caused.

'What I wouldn't bargain away for this pain to end. Hell I'd give up my soul at this point!' he thought in the haze of his pain.

'Request confirmed: Acquisition of Skill Pain Nullification is successful.

Request confirmed: Acquisition of Unique Skill Soul Bargain is successful.' The other worldly monotone voice said.

As James was about to take his last breath he had his final thoughts.

'I never even got to have my dream, to have a family. Little sons and daughters, a loving family' was the last thoughts of James Wolf.

'Request confirmed: Taking other Skills and nature into account. Acquisition of the Unique Skill Progenitor of Grey is successful.' The voice said to him.

Line Break

James felt like he was falling, like his soul was being pulled somewhere. He also somehow felt the sensation of his body and soul changing that was near indescribable, but he could tell the end result. The feeling that permeated his soul was the stripping of his Name. He knew that he was no longer James, he had no name now. He was still him, but he could no longer be called James.

After that strange feeling, he felt something else. The pulling he felt became stronger, pulling him down. Feeling as his body becomes more and more solid, though not quite. He saw a light and realized that he was entering a new life.

Line Break

He woke up in a large, old, crater. It had oddly dark grass growing in it, nature having reclaimed the scene of destruction as best it could. The ground was indented in a way that couldn't occur naturally, except for maybe a meteor hit the ground. However he could tell the crater was made a long time ago, with the vegetation encroaching towards the center where he was.

'What happened here? And where am I?' he questioned to himself.

'Answer: It appears a large battle happened here many years ago between powerful individuals. For your second question, from the data gained from your memories and from the base information package that comes with skill Soul Sage, you are in the world of Tensura as you would know it' a voice spoke that was somewhat similar to the one he faintly remembered hearing as he was dying spoke.

He was shocked, standing still and processing what he was told and the fact he now had a voice in his head.

'…I guess that explains why that voice seemed familiar, after all it was from one of my favorite anime of all time. Though I am a bit concerned how… unconcerned I am' the newly reborn man thought to himself.

'Answer: During the process of your soul coming to this world quite some time passed. You had time to grieve and come to terms with things during the process. You are also not feeling any feelings of rejection from your body due to the process making sure of that' the voice told him.

He put his hand on his chin and started to think. Before he could start to plan though Soul Sage spoke again.

'Alert: Due to your body being made of magicules your connection to the physical world is waning. If you want to stay in the material world you must find something physical to inhabit' the skill told him.

He started to freak out for a moment before quickly collecting himself. He was always good at pushing down his feelings in a crisis, though he usually broke down after. Right now that skill is coming in handy.

"Sage, do you have any advice?" he spoke out loud, now in problem solver mode.

'Yes, an easy solution is to use the Intrinsic Skill of your race Material Creation to make a basic skeleton from carbon. Soul Sage will regulate the magicule expenditure to use as little as possible to accomplish this goal, though it will not be perfect,' the sage informed him.

"Good, let's do that then, then I can start questioning everything" he said.

Using some kind of instinct that came with the skill, he raised his arm and held his hand out in front of him. A swirl of magic came into existence from his palm, then converged to a single point. Now a skeleton, white like real bone, lay on the ground in the crater with him.

He then used another instinctual action to use the skill Possession to possess the mass of carbon. In the crater the carbon skeleton merged with its creator, and he now had a true physical body kneeling down on one knee in the crater's center. He took a deep breath for the first time and at that moment realized he hadn't been breathing since he'd arrived in this world.

The reincarnator stood up and used Material Creation to make a full body length mirror, though it was a bit misshaped and warped. That was when he got the first look at his new form.

His new body stood around six feet tall and his hair was silver-like white with a metallic like sheen that made it look like an eccentric dye job from his old world. It didn't look bad though, added a wiser air to him in a way. His eyes were steel grey, like the hue of a blade took inspiration from his eyes for its choice of color. His face had sharp, aristocratic features with a slight softness in his cheeks. His complexion was a pale white, like the hot vampires he'd seen back in his home world.

It was once he looked below the neck that things stopped being so human. From his back sprouted a pair of wings, white demonic looking things that resembled a bat somewhat except for the color. He then looked at his hands and saw that his fingers seemed to have ash grey tinted skin on the tips and grey sharp nails.

'Your wings are retractable' the Sage skill informed him before he could ask.

"That's good, with a pair of gloves I'll be able to pass as human then. Now, while I make some clothes, I want you to tell me what race and skills I have" the newly reincarnated man said while making some rough cotton clothes, including gloves, to cover his naked form.

'Your race is the unique race of Nephilim, specifically a Lesser Nephilim, the fusion of an Angel and Daemon's magicules. From the information available and with Soul Sage's sub-skills, your body was created from the magicules released in a battle between a powerful Daemon and Angel that resulted in the crater you awoke in. The magicules must have mixed and coalesced into a singular form, you. A similar process is how monsters are normally born' Soul Sage began as the newly revealed Nephilim made his way out of the crater dressed in his roughly made black cotton clothes and retracting his wings.

'As for your Skills, you have the Intrinsic Skills Material Creation, and Possession, the Intrinsic skills of both Angels and Daemons. You have the Resistance Skills Holy-Demonic Resistance, Flame Attack Resistance, Heat Resistance, and Pain Nullification' the Sage went on as the Nephilim made his way to the forest he saw past the edge of the crater after he got out of the large deformation.

'You also possess four Unique Skills-' the skill was telling him, but the shock of that statement made him trip and fall on his face.

The Nephilim grabbed a nearby tree to balance himself, having just reached the edge of the woods. He took a deep breath before steading himself.

"What do you mean by that?" he asked the skill, knowing the answer yet both dreading and anticipating it.

'You have four Unique Skills, gained from your intense desires and emotions at the time of Skill allotment. Would you like an explanation of your Unique Skills?' the skill asked of its user.

The reborn Nephilim sat down, back against the tree he'd grabbed. He got as comfortable as he could, before speaking up.

"Lay it on me" he said in a tired voice that spoke of the mental exhaustion the recent events had given him.

'First is the Unique Skill Soul Sage, from your memories this Skill resembles the Skill Great Sage with some differences. Soul Sage grants the sub-skills All of Creation, Thought Acceleration, Parallel Calculation, Analytical Appraisal, Chant Annulment, and the sub-skill that makes Soul Sage different from Great Sage, Spirit Investigation. Spirit Investigation allows the user to analyze any soul the user has gained or interacts with. This allows for in-depth analysis of Skills, Magic, Arts, and memories of the soul. Memories can only be analyzed from souls directly in the user's possession. Can work in tandem with Analytical Appraisal. This Skill also allows for an assistant to help guide you, following with your request during Skill allotment' the skill revealed its capabilities to him.

'Well that's useful, glad I've got you to help me' he thought to himself while the wind blew through the trees.

'Next is the Unique Skill Essence of Flame. This Skill grants the ability to create and control fire at incredibly high levels. It also allows the user to make flames that burn what the user desires and makes an effect that correlates to the fuel used for the flame. There are restrictions on the later ability based on the skills rank and the amount of magicules you have. This skill also grants the ability to control flames you didn't create, magical or otherwise and has the sub-skills: Flame Domination, Flame Attack Resistance, and Heat Resistance' Soul Sage explained in its monotone voice.

'Next is the Unique Skill Soul Bargain. This Skill grants the ability to make deals that are tied to the soul of the parties involved in the transaction. It allows for the trading of things otherwise impossible, such as things like lifespan, magical power, and even Skills. For each successful deal made and completed an increase in magicules is granted based on the strength of the other party. This Skill has three restrictions. 1: The user cannot make a deal for something that they don't have/can't do. 2: The user can't break any deals made if they attempt to do so what they agreed to give is forfeit and goes to the aggrieved party as well as causing the loss of magicules. In turn this is equally, if not more, true for any party that the user makes a deal with. 3: The skill doesn't work when either party is under mind control or puppeteering to make the deal' Soul Sage informed him.

He couldn't believe that he had such a skill, this was a game changer by itself. And he had one more Unique Skill to go.

'Damn, this is starting to give me ideas for what to do going forward' he thought with a smile.

'Finally, you possess the Unique Skill Progenitor of Grey. This Skill grants the user the ability to create daemons of the unique color grey. The user is considered the progenitor of Grey daemons. The user can only make daemons of a lower level of power than themselves. All daemons made using this skill are loyal to their creator. The trait all Grey daemons possess is curiosity' was what Soul Sage told him.

At this point he wasn't even shocked anymore, he was just rolling with the punches. It was a good skill, for when he has more power. For now though he decided to hold off on using that skill, and his fire skill unless he had to.

'My main advantage is my Soul Bargain skill, that will let me get established' he thought as he sat up from his DIY chair.

The reborn man walked through the forest for some time, contemplating what he should do in this new life of his. He was also making a list of things he needed to do, like find out where he was and if Rimuru had arrived yet. After about an hour of walking he came across a dirt path that was well worn with use. Deciding to pick a random direction and follow the road he went towards what he believed to be east and walked down the path.

It was only a short while later that he came across where the path led, a small village of wooden houses. The whole place only had about nine buildings and a well, nothing really in the way of infrastructure. A woman who was filling some buckets at the well spotted him and waved. He waved back and approached the woman, picking up one of her buckets to aid her.

"Hello there stranger, I haven't seen you around here before" the village woman said as she finished filling her other bucket and started to take it to her home.

He followed her, bucket in one hand.

"I'm a little lost to be honest. Some bandits accosted me and I ran into the woods to lose them. Sadly, I didn't remember what way I ran from" he told her, looking bashful at the blunder he made up on the spot.

She nodded at him and opened the door to her domical. Inside she led him to a small kitchen/dining room hybrid and set the buckets on a nearby wooden counter. She whipped her hands on her apron and turned to face him.

"Well that's just awful. My husband got ran off by bandits once after a hunt, so I understand. If there's anything you need let me know, my husband can lead you more towards where you want to go in the morning. Won't you Dale!" she spoke to him in an understanding voice that changed once she shouted for her husband.

A man walked from further inside the house into the room. He was brown haired and of average height, toned from his work hunting in the woods.

"What am I doing now dear?" he asked, yawning as if just woke up.

As Dale's wife explained the situation he looked at the silver haired man in his home. After being caught up on the situation he spoke to the guest.

"Dang bandits. I understand your trouble there friend. I can lead you more towards the main roads in the morning. What's your name by the way?" Dale asked him while giving him an understanding nod.

The reincarnator thought for a moment before responding.

"I'm Lucian Silver, nice to meet you. How about in exchange for you leading me in the morning I help around here till then?" Lucian told him and held his hand out to the man.

Dale shook his hand with a smile at that.

"It's a deal then!" the hunter said with a laugh.

It was then that Lucian felt a small increase in power, making his own smile all the wider.

Reborn as the first Nephilim

Chapter 2

Chapter Text

The next day Dale showed Lucian the way to the main road. He waved the friendly hunter goodbye and walked along the path, his plan more set in motion. Lucian decided that he would travel for now, making deals where he could and spreading his chosen name. In time he hoped that the masses could give him a Name by doing this, though he knew that was likely to take time.

It was like this he spent the next few months traveling from place to place. He offered his services as a laborer in one town chopping wood, in another to aid in a hunt of a troublesome wolf, and in another he collected herbs from the nearby forest. Each deal he made resulted in him becoming just that bit stronger, and now two months after being reborn he encountered something that reminded him of the ugliness of this world.

Lucian was in another small village aiding an old woman in writing a letter to her son. He'd learned this world's language from a passing merchant, the deal being for a copy of the knowledge of how to read and write. Of course the merchant misunderstood and gave him a book to start learning, most likely thinking him a fool. It didn't matter though, Lucian could now read and write and got a free book out of it. It was as he was finishing writing the letter that he heard the commotion.

He left the old woman's house, telling her to stay inside while he checked out what was happening. Once he exited the house he saw what was the cause of all the noise. A small squad of armored soldiers was trying to take a young girl from her father and neither she nor her father were making it easy.

"Stop! No, leave my daughter alone!" the father yelled as his little girl screamed for her papa to help her.

"You know we can't do that. I heard from one of my men that your daughter has a skill and as such she is now property of the army" a weaselly voice came from a man that seemed to be in charge.

He had slight filigree on his armor, likely denoting rank. He was somewhat overweight and one could practically feel his superiority. The little girl let out a bright flash of light in distress, blinding the men holding her. Lucian barely had to think what to do in this situation.

The reborn Nephilim moved using his greater speed that his race had granted him. He snatched the girl from the blinded men's clutches and gave her to her father.

"Get inside, this is about to get a little too graphic for the little one" the silver haired man said, the father nodding while running inside.

The armored men got over their shock of losing the girl and his sudden appearance, surrounding him in quick order. A half circle of men surrounded him, taking their swords out of their sheaths as their commander stood behind them.

"That was an incredibly stupid thing to do young man. That girl's skill is too valuable to waste in this backwater, now get out of the way or else" the leader of the men said in an annoyed tone of voice.

Lucian smirked at that and raised his hand out in front of him.

"I think I'll choose 'else'" he said and released a wave of hot flames using his Unique Skill.

The armored men were bathed in fire, screaming for a few seconds before falling silent. The only thing left were melted steel tombs holding the remains of the men and the smell of burned flesh. With a wave of his hand Lucian canceled out the flames, revealing the morbid sight. The leader of the now dead men was still alive, cowering on the ground with part of his face singed. Lucian walked up to him and squatted next to the prone form of the man.

"Please! Please, mercy! I beg of your mercy!" the man said, no longer sounding so high and mighty.

'That was a quick turnaround. He wasn't even all that burned,' the reborn man thought to himself, remembering the severe burns he had gotten on the day of his death.

"And why should I let you leave here alive?" Lucian asked in a blasé tone of voice, as if he couldn't care either way.

That was when the man began to bargain.

"Money, I can pay you! Whatever you want, it's yours if you let me go!" the pompous man said in desperation.

Lucian smiled at that, a grin one could only describe as 'devilish.'

"In that case…I want everything that's yours. Agree to give me all you possess and I'll let you leave this village alive. Once you do, I'll come to collect, do we have a deal?" he asked the man, hiding his glee as best he could.

"Deal!" The man accepted and quickly got up to his feet.

The man didn't intend to make honest on the deal of course, instead he planned to head back to his house and contract some adventures to protect him. He'd made a good sum extorting people with his position as a military captain stationed at the nearby city. He wasn't going to give up anything when that silver haired bastard came to collect.

Those were the fleeing man's thoughts as he fled the village. Once he passed the border of the village however they became his final thoughts. His soul, his body, his money, everything that was his was now Lucian's. That was the deal after all, even if the man didn't know it.

'Extra Skill Spatial Storage 'has been acquired due to a deal made with Unique Skill Soul Bargain. All other gains from the bargain are stored inside the Extra Skill Spatial Storage or are being processed by Soul Sage before being integrated for the user' his handy aid told him, making him smile in true glee.

"That's a good find, and the first skill I've gained since coming here. I couldn't have made such a deal with a better asshole" Lucian said aloud, before turning back to the house the father-daughter pair had entered.

The man had dropped dead due to his skill, most importantly because of the wording and intent he had when making it. Lucian intended to take everything from the man, his soul, skills, and money, all of it. So when the man agreed, it didn't matter what he thought Lucian was asking for. All that mattered to his skill was the agreement to terms. It was in fact because of his skill being so concerned with terms that the captain hadn't died immediately, the deal stated he could leave the village alive after all. Once he left though, his life was forfeit just like he'd unknowingly agreed to.

Lucian knocked on the door of the house, and the father opened the door slightly, relaxing once he saw who it was. The father invited him in, grimacing at the burned bodies. He then led him to a dining table with three chairs placed around it, one being occupied by the man's daughter. The two men sat down and stayed quiet for a moment.

"Thank you sir for saving my daughter. My name is Mark and this is my little girl, Elysia. I can't thank you enough" Mark said to him, thanking him profusely.

Lucian sat back in his chair and gave the man a smile.

"It's no trouble, I couldn't let something like that happen. My name's Lucian Silver and it's nice to meet you Mark. If you wouldn't mind though, could you tell me what that was all about?" he asked with an at ease air to him.

The father and daughter looked at each other before nodding. Mark then began to tell him what had happened.

"…My daughter found an injured soldier out near the woods when she went to play. She felt bad for the man and so decided to show him kindness. She healed him…with her skill. After that apparently he told his captain and that led to them coming here for a 'forceful requirement'" he told Lucian with a drained look on his face.

Lucian nodded, understanding more now what happened. In a few villages he'd passed through he'd heard about some people who were born with skills. Humans didn't have skills usually, coming about from intense training and actions of great skill. There was an exception though, when one of their parents had an abundant amount of magicules. This only happened when a parent was a high ranking adventurer, or an otherworlder. This sometimes leads to a human child being born with a large amount of magicules that get turned into a skill, so the child doesn't die from them.

This led to some of these individuals being taken by slavers or local governments to be sold off or used by the nation who took them. A human with a skill was valuable after all, not as much as a summoned otherworlder but still useful. It was a terrible fate in most cases, the lock spell was used often in such situations. What was sometimes done with women taken was worse, so he could understand the sheer fear that Mark had been in.

"I take it her mother was an adventure?" Lucian said in response to the man.

Mark nodded and chuckled self-deprecatingly.

"Yeah, she was the fighter out of us, I'm just a humble woodworker. Now I'll have to move us somewhere new in case that man tells anyone else" he said with a sad voice as his daughter hopped down from her seat and hugged him.

"You know this is likely to happen again. Hiding a Skill like hers isn't going to be easy" the silver haired man said without judgment in his voice.

Mark stood up at that, causing his chair to fall over and his daughter to hug him tighter.

"Then what am I supposed to do!" he yelled in his frustration at the fate that seemed inescapable for his daughter.

Lucian looked at him and Elysia for a moment as Mark collected himself.

'I might regret this' he thought to himself with a sigh.

"I could take it off your hands if Elysia wants" he offered to stunned looks from the two.

After that Lucian explained Soul Bargain to them in basic terms and how it could help. Mark was still stunned silent at the information when his daughter walked up to Lucian.

"What do you need me to do so you can take this curse away?" she asked in a small voice as she looked at him with hope.

He smiled before responding to her.

"Just say you agree to give me your Skill in exchange for a head pat" Lucian told her in a gentle and slightly teasing voice.

"I agree" she said with a nod and a serious look on her face that was more adorable than anything.

He patted her on the head and then a bright sphere of light left her and entered him. It was then that his skill spoke up.

'Extra Skill Light Manipulation has been acquired due to a deal made by Soul Bargain' Soul Sage informed him in their standard monotone.

Lucian told the little girl to try and use her skill then. She scrunched up her face and seemed to be focusing before she gave up and said she couldn't anymore. Mark smiled and a few tears escaped him as his daughter hugged him in relief from no longer having to worry about being taken.

"Thank you, you have no idea how much this means to us" he told Lucian with a smile.

The silver haired man just told him it wasn't anything he needed thanks for. He did ask Mark to let anyone else he might encounter with a skill that they didn't want about him. Mark agreed and Lucian made his way out of the village soon after, not wanting to stick around for much longer in case the other villagers start asking questions.

Once he left the village and made it into the woods properly he sat down against a tree. Lucian began to think to himself after all that had transpired.

'I killed those men. My first time killing something more than a beast…and I feel nothing. Well, that's not exactly true. I feel more guilty for not feeling guilty about their deaths, about the blood on my hands. It was easy, easy to decide that they didn't deserve to live. I'm not evil though, the thought of anything happening to an innocent makes my blood boil' Lucian thought to himself, processing all that he did.

'…In the end I don't regret what I did. I know I'll kill again, that's the kind of world I'm in. I just have to always remember what my reasons are for doing so' he decided in the end, his morals affirmed.

After calming down he stood up and continued to walk. Lucian was thankful that he'd experimented with the basics of his fire skill against some weak monsters he encountered in the forest before he had that fight. He might have burnt down the village otherwise. Lucian then asked Soul Sage to explain what his new light skill could do and what all he got from the captain.

It turned out that he had received about five hundred gold, a few interesting household decorations, and some weapons and armor from the man. None of the equipment was anything but normal grade though so it wasn't too valuable to Lucian. In the end the man's gold, skill, and soul were what was actually useful. Now for the skill he got from his most recent deal.

As Soul Sage explained it, the skill Light Manipulation allowed the user to generate light using magicules which could have a few different properties. It could make solid light that was extra effective against things weak to the holy attribute like undead, as well as anything tied to darkness like daemons. It could also allow for normal light to be made and controlled to blind others like a flashbang. Finally, and most importantly, the skill could make healing light that could heal most physical injuries and illnesses as long as he had enough magicules.

"This is going to be so useful" Lucian said to himself with a smile at the possibilities.

Reborn as the first Nephilim

Chapter 3

Chapter Text

It was three months later, and Lucian had made many more deals in that time. He'd made deals to heal old veterans, both military and adventurer, and in exchange he got a copy of their combat knowledge. That included things like Arts and Spells too. The Nephilim also made a deal with an injured blacksmith to have a sword made for him. The smith was all too happy to do so as well.

The smith had lost the use of his hand in a wolf attack and couldn't forge anymore, instead taking a mentor role in the workshop he owned. So once Lucian told him he could heal his hand, and did so, the man was so grateful he went above and beyond in fulfilling his end of the deal. Now Lucian had a Special grade sword made in the style of a European bastard sword that could channel his magic better than normal swords. A great example of a deal that ended well for both ends he felt.

He also had gotten a few more souls from his skill due to a new use he came up with.

Flashback-

He was walking in the woods near the main road about a week after gaining the Light Manipulation skill. That was when a group of nine bandits ambushed him, all dressed in leather armor.

"Give us all you have and we'll spare your life!" the leader said like a standard fantasy bandit.

Lucian thought for a second after finding himself surrounded.

'This is dumb, but it might work…' he thought.

"Hey, about this. If you kill me everything I have is yours. If I kill you, then everything you have is mine. Just attack me if you agree" Lucian told them in a mocking voice.

This led to all nine men attacking him, angry at his mocking tone. Lucian just dodged for a while, waiting for each man to attempt to strike him. Once the reincarnator was sure he released an omni-directional blast of flame, burning them to ashes.

Flashback End-

After that fight ended Soul Sage told him that their attacks had counted as an acceptance of a deal, and he received all they had. Lucian proceeded to do this with each fight he encountered that was to the death, bandits, and monsters really. Now he was quite a bit stronger than he was before. He also made some more minor deals and had kept spreading his chosen name wherever he could.

Now he was in a secluded part of the forest, somewhere near the edge of the Jura Forest he'd found out along his travels. Lucian had decided to take a few weeks to train using his new knowledge and several ideas he had. First he used his Intrinsic Skill Material Creation to make a wooden sword that was in the shape of his new blade. Lucian then got into a stance that his gained knowledge told him was a starting stance.

The Nephilim then went through each of the sword stances he now knew one by one, over and over again. After two hours he had done each of his forms over two hundred times due to his body's speed. While doing his forms Lucian prioritized control over strength, trying to have as perfect a control of his movements as he could. After he did all that he began to go through martial art moves he remembered from his past life, his enhanced memory aiding him in doing so. Throughout both of these training exercises he had Soul Sage inform him whenever a correction was needed.

Once he spent two hours going through his hand to hand combat katas he switched back to swinging his wooden sword. Eventually he had completed twelve hours of physical exercise and finally stopped. However Lucian didn't stop to rest and sat down in a lotus position to begin meditating.

'From what I remember from the series, and what information I've gained from my deals, magic in this world is reliant on will and image. I need to envision what I want to happen exactly and then use my will to make it happen. However there are other kinds of magic, like elemental magic, that require more,' Lucian thought to himself as he began to focus on feeling his surroundings.

He sat there, meditating for hours in the forest. When he began the sun was starting to set and now it was beginning to rise. He was so focused on his task that he unknowingly started to spread his magicules around the area, his magic studying the area around him. After some time he was shocked out of his state of meditation by the sound of his internal companion.

'Due to extreme focus and attempting to commune with nature Soul Sage has analyzed enough to form the Spell Elemental Summoning. Attention, a Medium Elemental of fire has sensed your connection to its element and wishes to form a contract' Soul Sage informed him to Lucian's astonishment.

"I guess my Essence of Flame Skill drew its attention. Alright Soul Sage, use Elemental Summoning to summon them" the Nephilim told his skill with a smirk.

With a flash a red magic circle with intricate designs appeared on the forest floor. The magic circle glowed brightly for a moment and when the light died down the Medium Elemental stood before him. It stood at four feet tall and stood on its two clawed feet, its body reminiscent of a bird of prey. Its body was made of flames in the form of feathers, all tinged red and orange. Its golden beak and hot blue eyes were the only part of its body that burned a different color. The phoenix looking bird looked at Lucian and released a caw that sounded more like the roar of a bonfire.

Strangely, despite it not speaking in any known language, Lucian understood what the Elemental was trying to convey. It liked him and wished to make a pact of some kind. Lucian thought for a moment before conversing with Soul Sage.

'Soul Sage, do I have enough magicules to name this Elemental?' he asked his all-knowing skill.

'Processing request…Confirmed. You possess enough magicules to name the Medium Elemental before you if you ok the conversion of two of your gathered fifteen souls into raw magicules' the skill informed him in their natural tone of voice.

Lucian was surprised at the news.

'I thought though souls automatically did that once in my possession, what gives?' he asked in bewilderment.

'No, souls gained through the Skill Soul Bargain remain as intact souls except the removal of the heart core. This is done so souls can be used for other things, such as payment in another deal made with the Skill or as fuel for other Skills. You must make a request for anything to be done with souls in your possession' it told him calmly.

Lucian then put his hand on his chin before telling his skill to convert two souls into magicules. He then spoke to the elemental before him.

"How about in exchange for becoming contracted to me and summonable at any time I give you a name?" he asked the creature before him.

The bird of living flame seemed to flicker in place like a dancing flame. He took that as agreement from the Elemental.

"Then henceforth I name you Suzaku!" Lucian said with a bit of dramatic flair added to his voice.

The newly Named Suzaku cried out in joy and a burst of red light emanated from the Elemental's form even brighter than its summoning. The light grew in intensity over a period of about a minute before changing color to a brilliant blue. Eventually the now bright blue light died down and revealed Suzaku's new form.

Now the bird shaped flame stood at six feet tall while standing on its talons. Suzaku's new form was made from living blue flames instead of red with white highlights at the edge of the flames. His eyes were now a glowing white as well and his feathers even more defined. Overall he looked majestic.

"Thank you master" the Elemental said to Lucian telepathically, something possible with the new link between them from the Naming and summoning.

Lucian rubbed the back of his head, a bit embarrassed.

"It's no problem. I actually wasn't sure what to name you at first. So since you look like a phoenix I decided to name you after a phoenix I knew from folklore that was a guardian spirit" he admitted in a slightly bashful tone.

The Elemental shook his head at his new master's words.

"No, don't be embarrassed master. The fact you named me after something like that brings me great joy! I shall endeavor to live up to the name you bestowed on me by guarding you well!" Suzaku said to him, his earnestness leaking through his words.

Lucian smiled at the words of his new companion.

"Then I'm glad you like it! I don't have a name right now, but I'm attempting to gain the name Lucian Silver. It's nice to meet you" he told the flaming bird.

Lucian then hummed to himself and looked concerned.

"Now there's just the problem of bringing a giant flaming bird with me around humans without freaking them out…" At his new master's words Suzaku shrunk down to the size of a raven and flew to Lucian's shoulder.

Now he looked like a small blue bird, even managing to make his flaming body look more like a normal bird.

"Would this be better master?" he asked in an earnest voice.

Lucian nodded at him and praised his new companion. Then he decided he needed to ask Soul Sage some more questions.

'Soul Sage, please analyze Suzaku' he asked first.

'Analyzing entity known as Suzaku…Complete. Suzaku is a Greater Fire Elemental with the sub-species of "Bird of Flame", the informative skill told him.

Lucian nodded his head at that.

'Alright next, how was I able to name something like Suzaku when I'm an unevolved race? And how many souls would I need to evolve anyway?' he asked in bewilderment, having been too caught up in his gaining of a new friend to question the how's of it all.

'Answer: You are capable of Naming such an individual because you are more powerful than you think. Due to your Unique Race you are stronger than your counterparts. Despite being a Lesser Nephilim you are actually about as strong as a Greater Daemon putting you about equal in strength to a Medium Elemental like Suzaku was. Two souls were used to augment your power to name safely. As for evolving, it would require about one hundred human souls to commence Evolution' Soul Sage informed him, telling him all he needed to know.

'So since I have thirteen souls that means that I need eighty-seven more to evolve' he thought to himself in contemplation.

Lucian then spent about a day just bonding with Suzaku after that. He was immensely grateful that he didn't need food or rest with his new body as that let him have more time to spend with his new bird as well as train. After. The first day he went back to his training regiment, though added a period of two hours a day to rest and spend time with Suzaku. Three days into his training he made another breakthrough while mediating.

He had been focusing more inward during his meditation these past days, delving into his contradictory nature as a half-angel half-daemon hybrid. It was as Lucian was delving into the parts of himself that reminded him of bright light and pitch black darkness that it happened.

'Soul Sage has through a combination of analyzing the Extra Skill Light Manipulation, your connection to both the elements of Light and Darkness due to your race, and research into other Skills a new Skill is possible to be acquired. Would you like to turn three souls into magicules to gain the Extra Skill Darkness Manipulation?' his helpful skill asked him, awakening him from his trance once again.

Lucian was intrigued and decided to agree.

'Sure, sacrifice them Soul Sage and then tell me what it can do' he told his skill.

'Beginning process of turning the allotted souls into magicules… Successful. Acquiring Extra Skill Darkness Manipulation… Successful. Extra Skill Darkness Manipulation allows the user to generate and manipulate darkness and shadows. This includes making them tangible and shaping them. Attacks made with tangible darkness are extremely effective against Light aligned beings like Angels. This Skill can also be used to inflict a curse on others that degrades their health' Soul Sage informed him on what the Skill can do.

Lucian laughed at that, making Suzaku look at him oddly.

"Haha, that's perfect! Now I really am a being of Light and Darkness" he continued to laugh for a while before explaining to Suzaku what happened.

Lucian spent the next few days training in using his Skills and perfecting his swordsmanship. After each day he used a heavier and heavier sword made using Material Creation. At the end he was using a blade that was three times heavier than his actual sword and he was improving more and more. He even started the process of making some Arts of his own using his skills.

After spending those days training he decided to leave the now thoroughly destroyed part of the forest he'd been in. As Lucian made his way back to the main road he had no idea he'd be meeting another companion soon, one far more different than he ever thought he'd have.
