Chapter Text

Izuku

I've been with my new family for eight months now, and while it's not perfect, it's very fun, and my daily life has been constantly interesting. My new mother, Zenith, was the party healer, which explained the green aura I saw her use on me the day she found me. I got a proper display when the party leader, Paul, got a black eye from a girl he was trying to seduce, only to blatantly stare at another woman as she walked by them.

It honestly was the funniest thing I had seen in years.

The party was an interesting bunch. Elinalese, who had become sort of like an aunt to me, even though I embarrassingly had to use her as my main source of food until I was finally able to eat soft food. I sent a prayer to whatever god had sent me here when I reached that milestone in my development. Still, she always seemed up to talk to me or play when we had a moment.

Geese was a tricky one; his meals were the best, especially after Zenith asked him to teach her, yet he had also put the party in several crises when his gambling backfired on us. Such as the time he lost a bet, and suddenly we had to sleep in a cave.

Ghislaine wasn't too bad, but she didn't really interact with me. It likely didn't help that whenever I cried, she was reminded of my first night with the party. I wonder if I should apologize to her sometime. She seemed to be one of the party's main frontline fighters.

Sadly, there wasn't much to say about Talhand, he and my aunt would argue often, but never got physical. He never complained when asked to watch me. I think he was just content with everything, outside of wishing for a strong drink or some better company.

Lastly was the party leader, Paul. He was a mixed bag to say the least, he was great when the team would handle quests, and was good with a sword. Yet he had to be the biggest pervert with the number of women I'd seen him flirt with, especially my new mother.

I wouldn't fault him. Zenith was beautiful, and they were similar ages. Heck, technically speaking, mentally I was their age. But it didn't help that he was seemingly sleeping with every other girl he set his sights on, including the ones inside his own party. Heck, he once tried to convince Zenith to borrow me to get a particular beast folk girl to talk to him.

I couldn't stop laughing as Zenith kicked him in the family jewels and walked off with me, saying she wouldn't leave her son in his care, if that was his plan. It felt good to already be considered her son by her. It really made me come to genuinely love Zenith as my new mother, just like I loved my mother in my past life.

One massive upside of being with my new family was that with more people around in my life, my knowledge of the language of this world skyrocketed. I could understand a lot of their conversations, though my speech was still limited. I was able to say a few words; my first word had the biggest reaction out of all of them, though.

"Ok, sweetie, say 'Mama.' Come on, say 'Mama,'" Zenith cooed as she smiled at me.

"Please~ I know you can do it…" Zenith begged me to have my first words be around her. I think that was something all parents wanted.

"Bahhh-uhhhh…" unfortunately even though my mind was racing and taking in everything, my body still refused to do certain things. Granted, I had recently mastered crawling and a little bit of standing. My failed attempt at speech just made Zenith slump to the floor. I wanted to hug her, but if I tried, it's fair to say I would fall and hurt myself, so I just pouted and let out a disappointed huff.

"Don't worry, sweetie, you'll be talking soon enough." Zenith brushed her hand through my hair and kissed my forehead. I let out an unconscious giggle that had Zenith smiling again. "And after I teach you to talk, I'm going to teach you how to perform magic. Ohhhh, you would look so cute with a mage hat!"

That was another reason I was cursing my development. Zenith had said several times now that she wanted to teach me magic. In particular, healing magic. Elinalise joked that my mother wanted me to replace her on the team, which I wouldn't have minded if it helped her. However, Zenith just wanted to teach me so I would be safe. While I had ended up very unlucky with my previous parents, with Zenith, I hit the jackpot, as someone would say. She was kind, gentle, and funny, yet when anyone tried to joke or say something about me being adopted, her angry side came out.

"Don't you dare say that word around me!" Zenith's rageful cries echoed in my mind, the memory still fresh after Paul had told another adventurer about me and the guy joked about Zenith adopting a demon.

But that was something else I learned. I was surprised to find out I still had my green hair, but apparently, that was an omen here. It had something to do with a demon race called the Superd, and their reputation was so horrible that anyone with green hair would be treated with scorn. It explained my birth parents' reaction to me after a couple of months.

"Ohhhh, I hope your first words are Mama," Zenith cooed before she picked me up and kissed my forehead. "I hate for you to say something like panties…But if it is, I know who to blame…"

Zenith looked to the side with an annoyed glare, which did well to draw out a giggle from me. My laughter dispelled the glare on her face and made her refocus on me. The smile she wore when she looked at me warmed my heart.

Just then, a knock came from the door, and suddenly Paul walked in.

"Hey Zenny, is the little guy finally talking yet?" Paul's question wiped the smile off Zenith's face and made her sulk. Paul winced, realizing he had hit a nerve.

"Whoops, sorry, but I thought he would be talking by now."

"Well, he's not. What made you think an eleven-month-old baby could talk?" Zenith's defensive question went unanswered as, when Paul looked ready to respond, he stopped himself.

'Must've realised he was digging a deeper grave for himself,' I thought.

"Hey, no big deal, he'll talk when he's ready. Besides, Elinalise said you've been reading to him a lot, and that should help, too."

"I know…." Zenith pulled me closer, resting my head right above her heart. " I just… want to do right by him. He's only got us, and I want to be the best mother I can be," I felt something hit the top of my head and then another. Looking up, I saw Zenith was starting to cry.

"Hey, there's no need to cry," Paul came over and stroked Zenith's cheek. I saw her lean into his touch, and it seemed to help. "You're a great mother. Hell, definitely better than the little guy's birth mother,"

"I guess…but…"

"Ma…aaaa," I couldn't watch Zenith doubt herself. She was doing so much to be a good parent; I needed to do better as her son. The adults stared down at me in confusion.

"Maaaa…MAAAAMMMAAA!"

My cries reverberated through the room. Paul and Zenith stared dumbfounded at me for a moment, until…

"HIS FIRST WORD!!!" The two screams put my crying to shame. Zenith squealed as she pulled me into what felt like a bear hug, as she bounced on the spot.

"His first word! His first word! And it was Mama! He sees me as his mommy!" Zenith had gone a complete one-eighty, from gloomy to bubbly in an instant. She peppered me with kisses, drawing out giggles between my repeated use of the word.

"Mama mama mama!" I cheered back.

"Hehe, talk about perfect timing."

Zenith had refused to stop hugging me for the rest of the day and went to bed with the biggest smile on her face. After that, I was able to pick up more words thanks to the party. Zenith warned them, particularly Paul and Elinalise, that if I said anything perverted, they would answer to her.

Today, though, was more of a relaxing day. The party had decided to camp out in the local guild hall till a good job got posted. It didn't help that most were too low for us to take due to the guild's policy on rank, and any on our rank the party found too boring.

So, taking advantage of the situation, Zenith had taken a quiet spot in the corner of the guild hall and pulled out the storybook about the three heroes and their battle against the demon lord Laplace.

'Yet another factor in the hatred for green hair…'

We were left to our own devices in our own little corner, thankfully, but it didn't stop her from pushing the cap they had gotten for me down on my hair. That allowed Zenith to occasionally have me try and say certain words from the book, and correct me where needed, without any sudden interruptions. But, just as we got to the climax of the battle in the book Zenith had chosen, Paul walked up.

"Hey, kid, anything new to say today?" He asked as he took the spot to Zenith's left.

"Sw…Sword!" I replied, Paul smiled back warmly. It seems he liked how I could say that word.

"Good job, sweetie. At this rate, you'll be able to chant in no time," Zenith praised me for my continuous development, kissing my head to add to her praise.

"The kid's definitely gonna make a good magic user with how much he watches you. Not to mention you read that magic book to him every night. What do you say, kid? Want to be a mage?" Paul's question went unanswered, as before I could attempt to reply, Elinalise took the spot on mum's right and gave her a curious stare.

"Hmmmm, Paul, why don't you refer to our party's little mascot by his name?" Elinalise took a sip of her wine, but when she looked back at Paul, he had a dumbfounded look, while Zenith was turning a very bright shade of red all of a sudden.

"Wait….HE DOESN'T HAVE A NAME!?!?!" Elinalise's scream had everyone in the guild turn towards the commotion. Mum was shyly poking her index fingers together, embarrassingly.

'Huh, I forgot they never gave me a name, strange but not really a big deal,' I thought.

Now that Elinalise had pointed it out, it had been strange I still had no name, sure I had been given one by my birth parents but I didn't remember it and it's not like I would want to use a name given to me by those two.

"Hah! It's hardly a problem, Elinalise!" Talhand bellowed as he finished his beer and walked over to the booth. "In my culture, you receive a name at seven."

'Huh, that's kinda cool, bet it's strange if you have a lot of kids though.'

"Well, he isn't a dwarf!" Elinalise fired back as she racked her free hand through her hair. "I can't believe we forgot to name him in all these months. Zenith, aren't you going to say anything?" Her question went unanswered as Zenith had particularly curled in on herself.

"I'm a terrible mother, how could I forget to give my son a name for so long…." Zenith had started muttering under her breath. I got a strange sense of deja vu, reminding me of my rambling in my previous life.

"Don't worry Zenny." Paul patted Zenith's back, stopping her muttering. "It's easy to come up with a name.Oh, how about Paul Jr?"

I cried as loud as I could at the horrible suggestion, and the party leader cringed as Zenith soothed me.

"Okay, the little guy hates that one… How about Leon?" Geese - who had seemingly come out of nowhere - suggested. I shook my head, and the monkey man slumped in his chair like Paul.

"What about Rudeus? That's sweet," Zenith pitched, her tone sweet, but again I shook my head.

'Doesn't feel right, maybe if she has another son.'

"Man, for a baby, he's picky with names." Elinalise took a sip of her wine as she pondered what to name me, and then her eyes lit up. "Ok, how about Clive, that's a smart name!" I shook my head again, it sounded too off.

"That's it!" Ghislaine, who had seemingly been listening to us, pulled me from Zenith's grasp and held me up, and glared at me. "Okay then, if you don't like them, name yourself!"

I could just see Elinalise holding back Zenith in the corner of my eye, understandably annoyed that someone had taken her baby from her.

"Ba-ba-buuuuu!" I sputtered out. Ghislaine just gave me a disappointed look.

"No…that's not happening, come on, kid, give us a name or I'm calling you Paul Jr." Her ultimatum sent a shiver down my spine, recoiling at the idea I would be named after the biggest pervert I had met.

"Hey!" Paul screamed indignantly, "How dare you use me as a punishment!"

"Well, how else are we gonna get something?" Ghislaine said nonchalantly.

"Ghislaine! You can't expect a baby to nam-"

"I…iz…Izuku" I spat out, the party gave me a perplexed look that I had actually picked a name.

"Huh, now was that so hard, Izuku?" Ghislaine smiled as she greeted me and handed me back to Zenith's waiting arms.

"Awwwww! Little Izuku. That's a nice name," Zenith cooed as she poked my still chubby, pouty cheeks.

"Definitely strange, never heard it before," Geese gave me a curious stare, but Paul gave the scout of the party a hard pat on the back.

"Who cares, now we finally got a name for him," he cheered.

Okay, I was desperate, I couldn't think of anything in the heat of the moment, and I had practiced my old name a few times when Zenith was asleep. I couldn't accept being named after Paul, as, knowing them, even if I said to call me something else, they wouldn't let Paul Jr be forgotten. Yet it felt strangely comfortable that my old name was being used.

Zenith

It had been another successful day; the party had cleared out a cave full of Terminator boars, and Izuku had somehow slept through most of the quest. I still found it strange how my son named himself, but it was rather cute as well, and honestly, he did seem rather smart for a baby. Still, after skinning the bears and collecting their tails as proof of kill, we made our way back to the guild hall. The quest payout was huge, and Geese was quick to take the money and somehow come back with ten times what we had. So, understandably, we celebrated.

"There I was! Standing alone against three huge monsters! But did I stumble? Hell no!" Paul cheered from the top of a table as he took a massive swig of his beer and cheered. "With nothing but my trusty sword, I stepped forth and before the monsters could even blink, they were shredded to bits, and I had not a scratch on me!"

His audience cheered as a girl handed him another beer. He gave her a charming grin as another adventurer told him to tell another story.

"Of course! Keep this beer coming, and I'll tell you more of my adventures!" I couldn't help but giggle at Paul's childish nature. Lately, he had become less annoying and more funny to me.

I looked across the bar from my booth for my teammates, Talhand was busily outdrinking a party of adventurers. Already, I saw three of them passed out on the floor, while the last two looked like they were on their last legs. Elinalise was busy flirting with one of the bartenders and, judging by the look on his face, she had him wrapped around her finger. Heck, he looked ready to ditch work to sneak out with the Elf with a near-endless libido the second she offered. Before I could try looking for Geese or Ghislaine, a random adventurer came up to me and gave me a look of disgust. I recognized him from the Adventurer's Guild, where I spotted him looking at some quests, but I never interacted with him, and he never looked our way at all.

"Can I help you?" I asked politely, trying to avoid a conflict. Despite my kindness, the man gritted his teeth and pointed at me accusingly.

"Why are you holding that demon!?" He screamed over the ruckus, pointing at Izuku, who was relaxing in my lap and looking over a book of magic I had found last week. "A monster like that shouldn't be in this town!"

"I don't know what you're talking about, that's my son Izuku," I replied with a nervous smile, as I discreetly glanced to see that the hat Paul had found had slipped a bit.

"Don't you lie to me! I saw his green demonic hair!" The adventurer screaming also informed me he was intoxicated. "You thought you were clever, sneaking him in here. I'll give you one chance, toss that freak and I won't make your life a living hell…"

"He's not a demon, he's my son, and he's not leaving my sight," I answered coldly as I pulled Izuku closer to me. "Leave us alone, he's not bothering anyone, and the bartenders don't mind him being here."

"So you spawned a demon, then we may as well deal with you and your demon child!" the man roared. My cold glare intensified as he drew closer to our booth, my protective instincts sparking a subdued yet intense rage that directed itself at the man.

"You. Won't. Touch. My. Son." I growled. The adventurer flinched, but his jaw got even more tense; my response only seemed to add fuel to his fire.

"Then I'll just kill you both! Demon mother and her demon offspring!" He screamed as he reached for his sword. Unconsciously, I pulled Izuku closer to my chest and turned my back to the adventurer, my instincts screaming at me.

'Protect my son!'

Before I felt the man's blade cut across my back, I heard a crash and a scream. Slowly, I turned my head and, instead of seeing the adventurer standing above me, ready to kill me, Paul was standing in front of me. I looked out of the booth and saw the adventurer from a moment ago lying in a pile of broken furniture. My gaze returned to my party leader, who almost seemed to have sobered up in an instant, as he glared at everyone in the bar.

"IF ANY OF YOU BASTARDS GOT A PROBLEM WITH MY PARTY'S YOUNGEST MEMBER, COME AND FACE ME AND NOT WAIT TILL HE AND HIS MOTHER ARE ALONE!!!" He screamed to the entire bar, the atmosphere instantly turning from joyful to tense. I saw a few other adventurers start to put their drinks down. It seemed more people had seen Izuku's green hair. Paul smirked as he gestured for them to come at him; he was ready to deck everyone here to protect Izuku and me.

Before any of them could try, though, out of nowhere, Ghislaine was by Paul's side, she was chewing on a bone as she joined in Paul's glare, and she growled.

"Cowards…waiting till we were celebrating…" Ghislaine spat the bone to the floor as she reached for her sword.

"You're right Ghislaine!" Talhand bellowed from his spot in the bar, he pulled his axe from his belt, and showed he was ready to back up the others. "Going after a child, truly, you lot know how to ruin my mood!"

"You damn bastards!" A beast folk man at the bar screamed, but before he could charge, a wine bottle was smashed across the back of his head, the man slumped to the floor, and behind him stood a miffed Elinalise.

"Such a waste of good wine…" Elinalise held up the remnants of the bottle, and her expression brightened just a bit. "Oh, good, it was the cheap stuff," She then tossed the remnants onto the floor, dusted herself down, and unsheathed her sword, wearing a look of intense rage, mixed with a look of seriousness as she got into a battle stance. "Now, who thinks they can hurt my nephew?"

The bar was at a standstill; no one was willing to move, and the tension was palpable. Before anyone could do anything, however, the bartender Elinalise had been flirting with a moment ago, walked over to the adventurer who had tried to attack me, who seemed to be coming around, and grabbed him by the collar, tossing him to what looked to be his party members.

"Get out! I told you, morons, that if you cause issues, you're out!" He screamed at them.

"B-but that harlot ha-" One of the party members was cut off by Paul as he pulled his sword from its sheath.

"Call Zenith that again, I dare you…" He challenged, his voice a dangerous growl. The adventurer audibly gulped and took a step back, looking around the bar before clicking his tongue.

"Fine! We're not gonna stay at an inn that allows demons in it, anyway!" The man picked up his party leader and, soon, not only the party but those who seemed to agree with them left the bar.

After a few moments, the bartender let out a sigh and looked at Paul and me.

"I won't charge you for the broken furniture; those guys already paid for a week to stay, so that'll cover it."

He let us be, but before he could get back to the bar, Elinalise swooped in and started dragging him up to her room. Apparently, his stand had made Elinalise want him more.

Paul let out a breath he had seemingly been holding in and came over, taking the seat next to me.

"You okay, Zenny?"

"Y-yeah…but izuku is fine," looking to my lap, Izuku looked at us like he was on the verge of tears, I kissed his forehead and that seemed to help. "That's what's important."

"Yeah, but I asked how you are. I know Izuku is safe. You're here, too. How are you?" Paul's question made my heart strangely skip a beat.

"I-I'm fi-fine," I muttered. Paul smiled at me and pulled me into a side hug.

"Great, I'd offer to get you a beer but…" Paul's point was backed up by Elinalise's moans coming from her room. He laughed like he usually did. "I think our bartender is a little preoccupied, hahaha!"

Against my better judgment, I joined in Paul's childish laughter. Slowly, the rest of the party came around to check on Izuku and me, and the bar eventually went back to its usual atmosphere. It helped that another bartender had arrived shortly after the previous one was dragged off by Elinalise.

Soon, though, I felt the rush of the day start to catch up to me. It seemed to affect my son, too, as Izuku let out a little yawn. I took this as my cue to head to bed.

Izuku

After Zenith said her goodnights to the others and thanked them again, especially Paul, we went back to her room. She quickly changed out of her adventure outfit and into her nightwear, giggling when she saw me cover my eyes to give her a little bit of privacy.

"Such a little gentleman," she said fondly before coming back over to the bed and tucking me in on my side of the bed.

"Goodnight, sweetie," she whispered as she kissed my forehead and took up the empty spot on the other side. As soon as her head hit the pillow, she was fast asleep.

I looked at her for a long time as the events of earlier this evening played in my head. Sure, this wasn't the first time we had issues because of me and my hair. Heck, we once were banned from an inn and forced to camp outside because of my hair. Yet this was the first time someone had gotten ready to attack me because of it.

'Zenith was ready to die to protect me…' I thought, the moment playing in my head on a loop. 'She pulled me into her embrace and was ready to take a fatal strike to protect me.'

I felt tears well up in my eyes as my imagination played out how the scene could have gone had Zenith gotten injured or even killed in front of me. The idea of losing her and her sweet smile felt like someone was stabbing me straight in the heart with every mental image that came.

'If Paul hadn't spotted him in time, or even a moment too late, we couldn't save Zenith, she's our only healer, and I can't use magic yet…' The pain in my heart grew, thinking of how it could have gone. It only stopped when I heard Zenith groan in her sleep. I looked over and saw her face scrunch up in discomfort. She was mumbling something, but I couldn't hear her.

I couldn't watch this any longer. Rustling myself free of the blanket, I crawled over and nestled myself next to Zenith. My mother seemed to sense me there, as she unconsciously pulled me into a hug. Her discomfort seemed to melt away, and her smile returned to her face as her body relaxed once more. I rested my head against her chest; her heartbeat was so soothing that it was already steadily lulling me to sleep.

'I'm going to become a mage. I'll master healing magic, and then you'll never need to worry about me getting hurt.'

Special thanks to my old friend Neon who drew this moment from ch2 after I showed her the fic idea.

Notes:

Another chapter up, as you can tell this was more fluff based but loved writing Zenith here and giving our favourite horny elf a fun aunt role. Story will start to pickup soon and see the changes Izuku brings to the story, though I'm curious about any predictions you guys have for what I'm planning.

Special thanks to enrosurobakia for helping me with a few things.

special thanks to Neon for the first piece of artwork
