Celestial Traveler
NovaSelene
Summary:
The Celestial Grimoire and multiversal travel. Two powers that probably shouldn't have been given to a narcissistic, misanthropic teenager with massive trust issues.
That said teenager would actually need everything the CYOA build she'd made at the end of their previous life had given her in order to not die alongside countless iterations of Earth at least improved the otherwise problematic situation.
Not that said teenager focuses all that much on the potential end of all the Earth's in an entire multiverse since she's decided that that's a problem for future-her to deal with while present-her would learn magic from as many worlds as possible.

Chapter Text
To Trigger was to awaken nascent magical abilities. That's what every child was taught in school. It also left out the sheer amount of trauma required to force magical abilities to the surface.
"Come on, Lilian, Missy! We're leaving!" Mom declared, grabbing my sister and I by one wrist each before powerwalking towards the door.
Trauma such as my parents loudly arguing for the millionth time and my mother going as far as to attempt to leave with my twin sister and I.
Safe to say that I wasn't the only one who triggered at that moment, as the door suddenly being a lot farther away proved. But, while I gained the same ability as Missy, I also got an entire life of memories added to my mind that prevented me from using them in that moment.
Disoriented, I stumbled and nearly fell to the floor. I was barely even aware of my body at that moment, my mind torn apart by the new and the old, both declaring that the other was the new set of memories and, if it hadn't been for the longer life feeling…muted, for lack of a better word, I may not have come out of that identity crisis as quickly as I did.
Then again, what brought me out of that war inside my mind wasn't the slight detachment I felt towards what I still recognized as my memories but instead from another power of mine awakening.
Within my soul, a book fluttered open, three pages glowing within it, their contents known to me despite me not having known about them until this very moment.
Lore: Omniglot; 100 CP, 400 CP left
Simply put, this is the power to speak and read every language. Any language you encounter, be it written, spoken, or otherwise is something you understand intuitively and can learn to communicate with almost instantly as long as you are physically capable of doing so. Note that this also includes body language, programming languages, secret codes, arcane secrets... With enough time you could learn to communicate with beings that lack an innate form of communication or create your own unique languages that can only be used by those you allow to learn.
Divination: Combat Instincts; 200 CP, 400 CP left
Most Sabers are born for war, having a natural talent before they ever set foot on the battlefield. You've honed that with years of experience in conflicts too, developing into the precognitive instincts now of such benefit. Your instincts allow you to predict the moves and techniques others make in combat, even when you've had no experience with your current foe. By drawing on your past memories, you can quickly piece together the tactics and mechanics of your enemies, telling you the best ways to fight back against them. This process is lightning fast in battle, helping you use all sorts of varying abilities of your own and factors outside of your control to clutch a win from the jaws of defeat. In an active sense, it's almost impossible to trick or feint against you in battle, your instincts easily seeing through all but the most cunning warriors.
If a Saber's developed this level of instinctual awareness of combat, they've been fighting for a long time. They don't think anything of more war and can forget that those around them aren't as used to sudden, brutal violence.
Divination: Identify Talents; 200 CP, 400 CP left
You possess the talent to detect Innate Talents in others. Upon sight you
will instantly learn the exact nature, usage, and purpose of any Innate Talents a person might have. Whether or not they're skilled enough to actually use it is a different matter. In future worlds this effect will allow you to determine the supernatural powers of others, but the information it gives is not instant and isn't as comprehensive.
The Grimoire was somewhat expected after looking at my final memory from my past life. A CYOA build that just so happened to result in a world reminiscent of the one I was reborn in? Even an idiot could've connected those dots.
And Identify Talents was already useful. I could see in Missy the same potential I held – that of a Traveler, someone who journeyed across worlds like a human might walk the lands. She also held her or, I suppose, our ability to bend space by consuming mana but it wasn't as important to me as confirming that we both held the Traveler ability.
Omniglot was similarly useful. Worry and anger showed in the body language of my parents, one directed towards Missy and I and the other directed towards each other.
"Lilian? Lilian? LILIAN!" Coming back to my senses, I winced as I registered Missy shaking me, panicking as she called my name over and over again.
Gulping, I tried my best to smile at her despite the headache I was suffering from and the overwhelming…everything of the last hour or so. "I'm fine." I knew she didn't buy the lie the moment I said it but it was better to say something than to not do anything at all.
And it was certainly better to lie about how I felt than jumping into a random world to get away from the argument between our parents that…had apparently stopped while I'd been lost in my head.
In hindsight, not jumping on that impulse was a really good choice from me for once. It'd have been both embarassing and dumb to run away from something that had stopped even if every part of me was screaming that they'd start again soon enough.
"Let's get you to your room. You look way too pale and you're shaking." Missy decided, taking one of my hands and pulling me up by it before putting it over her shoulder so she could help me walk.
A part of me, the one that had seen betrayal after betrayal until they stopped trusting anyone and everyone, screamed to walk on my own, to not let this weakness be seen.
Its complaints honestly made it a lot easier to separate past-me from current-me. Oh, I definitely got some parts of past-me from inheriting my old memories but I trusted my sister absolutely. There was not a single world in which I could imagine her betraying me.
"Shouldn't we get you to the hospital, Lilian? Whatever your mother did to you to cause this clearly didn't leave you in a good state." Dad asked, mom whirling around in response, intent on putting the blame on him.
"Both of you caused this!" I yelled after turning around myself with Missy's hesitant help, shutting them both up since I was usually pretty quiet. "You keep arguing and arguing and then you involve us as if we want to be around for those arguments! And we definitely don't want to be used by you to put each other down!"
Grabbing at my head with my free hand since the yelling had made my headache worse, I hissed at the flash of pain and turned around again, almost stumbling in the process.
This time, neither of our parents tried to stop us as Missy got us to my room. "Missy?" I asked after lying down in my bed, already hearing the shouting downstairs starting again.
"Yeah?" My sister replied, sounding just as tired as I did.
"Thanks. For being the best sister I could've wished for." I told her, meaning every word. Getting memories from a life in which the closest I'd ever come to trusting someone was past-me's sister caring about me for one conversation really put it into perspective how lucky I was to have Missy for a sister in this life.
"You're pretty alright, too." Missy teased but there was affection in her voice that I knew was genuine even if instincts from a life surrounded by the untrustworthy told me to doubt her.
"The life of one who trusts no one will always be lonely." A sentence I had once written in a life long-gone, contemplating for but a moment to let the walls down, to allow someone into the fortress that had been my heart.
The doubt had faded within moments but I still remembered the ever-present dull-ache past-me had deluded themselves into believing to be nonexistent.
I wouldn't suffer from old paranoia in this life. Caution could stay but the paranoia had to go. My heart could be a fortress but Missy and maybe a select few others would be let in.
"What do you want to do now that we have magic?" I asked as soon as the question entered my mind.
I had an eternity before me, one that I'd hopefully share with my twin. I could afford to help my sister with her mortal goals until she came to realize what immortality meant.
Missy was silent for several moments before answering, "Join a guild, clear some Gates, I guess. I mean, there's a lot of people who'll get hurt if a Gate breaks, right? Stopping those people from being hurt would be nice."
It was interesting. Both in this life and my previous one, I had never once considered just…doing little stuff to help people. Both times, I thought on how to bring humanity as close as possible to a Utopia only to realize that human nature would forever stop such attempts. Both times, that realization drove me to misanthropy at a young age.
I loved humanity as I loved all life and, for their nature being incompatible with my dreams of perfection, I despised them.
But Missy didn't care about humanity's imperfections – and I had no doubt that she was aware of some of them, at least, because I had ranted to her about them often enough. Apparently, all my sister wanted out of magic was to help people and probably use that as an excuse to not spend so much time at home anymore while she was at it.
"I'll help you." I couldn't relate to that as someone who had given up on humanity twice now but, if she desired it, I would help her even if it disgusted me.
I knew where my path would take me, that I wouldn't stop my curiosity from leading me to commit what some would call atrocities. Despite that, my promise was genuine. I wouldn't stop myself, wouldn't hold back my endless thirst for knowledge. However, I would help Missy help people.
…And I should probably deal with 'demon lord' Scion or whatever the fuck he was in this world. Because I vaguely remembered something in that CYOA about him now wanting to use a ritual to transform all of humanity into a source of infinity magical energy or something like that.
"You don't have to." Missy's voice dragged me back out of my thoughts.
"I want to." It wasn't a lie but only barely and still left a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted to help her, that much was true. I just didn't want to help the ones she wanted to help.
Our goals weren't necessarily opposed to each other. My sadism and curiosity would just get in the way.
"Fine but I'll help you do whatever you want to do, too." My twin declared, her tone carrying that air of stubbornness we both shared.
I smiled in response. "I just want to learn. Especially if it's about magic but also just in general. If I can also have fun with you and make you happy, that's enough for me." In a way, it wasn't ambitious while also being incredibly ambitious.
After all, I wanted to learn forever. There was infinite knowledge out there and I had every intention of learning forever. Magic, people, cultures, history – almost everything could ignite a burning desire to know more in me!
Agelessness, Missy and I already had so learning forever was possible. I'd just have to find a way to make us unkillable, too.
"I'll get you all the books." Missy declared, only half-teasingly. Omniglot let me translate her body language rapidly and, while her smirk was genuine and she did intend it to be a joke, she was also determined to help me as I'd promised to help her.
"Then I'll make my own Library of Alexandria." I joked.
For several moments afterwards, there was a comfortable silence. And then it was broken by Missy asking, "Do you think things will get better?" She didn't need to specify what she meant. Not when a small part of me hoped for the same thing.
A part of me wanted to keep the seeds of hope in us alive. The other parts reminded me that we weren't children anymore and unfulfilled hopes hurt a lot more than gently smothered ones. "I don't know but…I don't think so. I mean, they're back to arguing already." I ended up saying, ignoring the stab of pain in my chest at acknowledging the fight downstairs.
Maybe our parents would even divorce. Despite the pain and uneasiness the thought caused me, I knew from my past life that it'd probably be for the better. Past-me's parents hadn't divorced and the anger had never died down. They simply kept arguing, kept hating each other.
Only seeing them separately again would be better than seeing their constant conflict, of that I was sure.
Children could keep parents together but they couldn't make them love each other, that I knew with painful certainty, having seen countless attempts to mend the relationship of past-me's parents fail time and time again.
Missy didn't respond verbally, instead just moving to hug me and soon falling asleep like that, tears having run down her face as she held me.
I didn't really feel like it but, despite that, I rolled for a new power in the Grimoire.
Benevolence: Duty Beyond Death; 100 CP, 400 CP left
Though wracked in mind and body by the Scarlet Rot, Malenia never gave up her faith in her brother-nor did her forces forsake their devotion to her. You share a similar determination that can see you through the worst of ravages on your body. A knight could carry a slumbering comrade far away from the site where the Scarlet Rot touched the world, fending off all manner of foes while crossing much of the Lands Between. Enough blood loss and other traumatic damage may bring you down, but your endurance is that of a champion and should you receive proper treatment you could come out of a coma immediately fit to fight. And should you lose a limb, you'll find acclimatising and accepting prosthetics of all kinds far easier than most.
Considering how cheap it was, I probably would've bought it either way but a willpower and recovery enhancement seemed useful even if I'd rather find a way to regenerate a new limb than willingly accept a prosthetic.
And, after buying that perk, I considered staying awake since I no longer needed sleep but…why bother? I had nothing I could actually use my time for at the moment that was more important than being there for my sister.
Mages, Hunters, Witches, Onmyouji, Druids – there had, at first, been dozens of names for the people who one day awakened magical abilities through trauma. People whose very existence reshaped the world's balance of power.
Weapons without any mana in them were less than worthless against all but the weakest of monsters and, besides, getting those into the Gates was often too difficult due to the time required to move them and the size of the Gates themselves.
So, despite the problematic amount of members of certain magic-hating religions who had a strong opinion on what to do with mages, governments around the world instead chose to try and regulate them, an act that was doomed to fail from the start.
S-Ranks and National Ranks were too rare and almost all of them too prideful to join a government agency and so none of them were truly kept in-check any more than the most powerful of them were willing to help them achieve.
Alexandria, Legend and Eidolon had ensured that the US government had more powerful hunters than any other country but then first Behemoth and then Thomas Andre had appeared.
Behemoth's immense power necessitated greater privileges for hunters. Many straight-up refused to attempt to fight that monster long before either of the other two had shown up. Even if they bled in this world, the Endbringers were still much too powerful to be defeated by any hunters and being ordered to fight them led to more hunters deserting than ever before. And the worst part? The rest of the world didn't blame them.
So, rather than trying to keep their iron grip, the government relented. Private guilds were allowed to form and any hunters that were willing to fight against an Endbringer were offered immense rewards and privileges.
And, when Thomas Andre had appeared, he had looked at those privileges and declared them to not have been enough. In the end, after being a significant part of the reason why Kamish wasn't still running around, the Scavenger Guild basically became his own kingdom, a guild which he could rule as he pleased despite working with the government when he felt like it.
No other guild in the States was so free simply because no other guild had Thomas Andre at its head.
And, while the States had a decent amount of S-Ranks, many were supports and few of them were part of independent guilds.
In other countries, being S-Rank meant an amount of privileges that was simply unrivaled. In the United States, being S-Rank still meant a great deal of privileges but not nearly as much simply because half the world's National Ranks were here.
As an S-Rank in any other country, one would be a god among men but, here, one was more a king than a god.
And Missy and I certainly fell short of National Rank – for now, at least.
"I can only recommend for you two to join the Protectorate. Our Wards programme was created solely to make it safer for young hunters to learn and comes with the addition of access to any magical universities you might want to learn from." The PRT guy told us after the device had failed to measure our mana.
In a way, he wasn't wrong. Gates were inherently unsafe but the Wards had been set up so as to minimize the risk of death or major injury – a privilege other countries didn't have.
It was also a privilege that wasn't worth tying myself to the government. "No, thanks." After all, I had spent about two hours after Missy and I had woken up reading up on hunter laws and, amusingly enough, one of them basically emancipated anyone above a certain rank in the sense that their parents could no longer make agreements for them.
Apparently, a teenage A-Rank getting almost his entire team killed after being signed onto a Wards team and simply refusing to cooperate could get past any complaints from people who feared that their children might no longer want to listen to them.
As it turned out, the government preferred teenagers theoretically being able to make their own guilds if they found enough people willing to hand over command to said teenager over having to explain why six minors who'd been in their care were dead and three others severely injured.
I'd still need to find enough people for it but I'd manage that in due time.
My power would draw them in and the abilities I'd gain would ensure that they stayed.
"What do you mean?" Missy hissed at me, having pulled my arm to get me closer. "I thought we'd join the Wards together!"
Blinking, I realized that she must've taken our conversation the previous evening much differently than I had. I had promised to help her help people, not to join the Wards. "And I just said I'd help you people. I don't want to join the Wards, simple as that." Maybe if I'd been A or B-Rank, I'd have been fine joining the Wards but I was an S-Rank with the Celestial Grimoire and the ability to travel to other worlds.
I refused to accept the limits joining the Wards would impose upon me. They may not have been as limiting as in Worm but they were still limiting.
"Can we think about it?" Missy asked the man politely, making me sigh internally. My sister was much too stubborn. Even in a world in which they're not heroes, the Wards were simply not an organization I could see myself being a part of.
"Of course." The PRT member told us with a smile, handing Missy a card. "Once you've decided, please call the number on this card."
"We will." Missy decided to speak for me and I almost spoke up just to be petty but stopped myself.
If my sister wanted to be one of the government's pawns, so be it but I had the power of the multiverse at the tip of my fingertips. I would not subordinate myself to anyone.
It was prideful, maybe it was even foolish but if my past life had taught me one thing it was that the only opinions that were truly meaningful were those I decided mattered. Missy could call me foolish all she liked but, while I valued her opinion, my own also mattered and I was no one's subordinate.
Talent would forever reign supreme and what were my Celestial Grimoire and Traveler powers if not talent yet unexplored? Who, in this world, could claim to hold more talent than I?
"And? How did it go?" Mom asked us, seemingly slightly nervous, after Missy had pulled me – quite roughly, at that – outside the room in which our mana had been measured.
"We're S-Ranks." I answered proudly, aware of the eyes on us and uncaring of them. In this world, in which the Unwritten Rules had never managed to exist in quite the same state as they'd had in Worm due to hunters being able to sense mana, our identities would become known soon enough, anyways.
Missy pinched the bridge of her nose in annoyance and I held back the urge to grin. "Can we get home? I want to talk about what we'll do next with Lilian." My twin asked our mother, sending a glare at me towards the end.
Missy's anger was amusing to me. The moment I realized that, I noticed that the part of me that many had called 'twisted' in my past life still existed and, much like my past-self, I couldn't find it to be something I should get rid of.
Sadism was a core part of my being and, apparently, reincarnation hadn't changed that. In fact, I was becoming more and more certain that the reincarnation had only changed those traits of mine which past-me had disliked about themselves with everything else already having been a part of my personality before I regained my old memories.
"Why don't you want to join the Wards?" Missy asked after roughly pulling me into her room, at least giving me a chance to explain my reasoning.
Though I was pretty sure she wouldn't be calmed down by my reasons. "Because I'm strong already and I'll grow stronger still. Why should I let someone weaker than me boss me around?" After all, the Brockton Bay Protectorate and Wards didn't have a single S-Rank hunter among their ranks. Multiple A-Ranks but the gap between A and S-Rank was immense.
Missy groaned in clear annoyance, pinching the bridge of her nose again. "You know people won't line up to get bossed around by you either, right?"
"Believe me, that won't be a problem for long." I promised, having already come up with a couple loose plans, the randomness of both my Grimoire and my world-travel making firm plans unusable.
If chance plays a role in a plan, one must be flexible enough to adjust it as needed on the fly.
"…Tell me what you're planning. If it's a good plan, I'll join whatever guild you want to make. If it's not, I'll join the Wards." Missy told me, frowning.
Her words took me completely by surprise since I hadn't expected her to actually be willing to join the guild I'd make. "Alright, so my plan hinges on a couple things. One, you don't know all the powers we triggered with. Two, I have one power that you don't." I began, a happy smile on my face at the realization that Missy was willing to throw her lot in with me even when I knew that she had a bit of hero worship in her due to all the effort the PRT had put into making their Protectorate and Wards seem like 'righteous' and 'just' organizations.
Without villains to constantly break out of prison, those efforts were a lot more effective than they'd been in Worm, too.
"The power we both have is mostly the ability to travel to other worlds and gain any powers native to those worlds. There's also various side benefits but they're unimportant compared to that." I fully expected Missy to question me on this part of the explanation so I stopped there.
And, as I thought, she immediately began to speak after my words had sunk in, "You expect me to believe we can just, what, open a portal to another world?"
"I'm fairly sure it's not a portal but, otherwise, yes." I nodded, not smirking because I didn't want to agitate her right now.
"And you know that how?"
This time, I allowed a small smile to slip onto my lips. "Because of that power I got which you didn't. See, every day, I get four…let's call them charges for that power. Then, I get a chance to gain two random powers but I can 'roll' for new ones by spending a quarter of a charge if I don't like the previous ones or they didn't take all my charges. And I also got three free powers yesterday, one of which lets me see people's magical abilities. So I know for a fact that we're capable of travelling to other worlds whenever we please."
"…You're betting on getting strong enough that people have to let you get away with whatever you want to do." Missy concluded, her narrowed eyes honed in on me.
I nodded without hesitation. "If I get the right power, six charges would be enough to make me the strongest hunter. Ten could make me even greater." And, sometimes, even one would be enough – because I knew for a fact that at least three of the Beast's Nega skills from the Nasuverse were in the Grimoire for a mere 100 CP each.
Well, there's also a chance that those things had their prices changed because they're no longer in a Grimoire compiled by mortals but to have the likes of the Authority of the Beast or Nega-Desire for barely any CP would be immensely useful.
In all honesty, I'd buy those even if their cost had been increased to 400 or even 600 CP.
"And I'm guessing you'll also use that world travel power since you've always been weirdly excited about seeing new places." My sister added, having gotten that correct, too.
I was a free spirit at heart and seeing and learning new things would forever excite me – quite literally considering the fact that one of the perks from the CYOA made it so I'd always love to do stuff I loved to do now.
There were endless worlds out there and I'd travel through them forever, seeing all I could in each and every one of them.
"Why stick to one world if there's a lot of them out there?" I replied, grinning to myself at the thought of all the wonders that were out there.
"And how will you manage a guild while doing that?" Missy challenged and I faltered for a moment as I realized she had a point.
Of course, finding an answer to that was easy. "I'll just put someone in charge of the administrative stuff and have them forward reports as well as proof of those reports to me." Preferably someone who was bound to obey me in some way.
Just because I trusted my twin didn't mean I didn't still have trust issues in regards to everyone else.
Missy sighed as if she didn't have absolute trust in my ability to create a guild in which I'd have to do as little work as possible so I could spend all my free time studying magic and exploring new worlds.
Despite that, she sent an awkward smile my way. "I guess I'll help you with all this, then. I still think you're a bit mad but, if you're willing to help me, I should help you, too."
"Thank you." I didn't stop myself from smiling this time. Not when I genuinely appreciated her willingness to go along with a plan she had doubts about just because I was the one who'd come up with it.
We ended up talking a bit longer before Missy, for the first time that day, left me alone long enough for me to feel comfortable rolling for a new power.
Lore: Omnipotence, So They Say; 600 CP, 700 CP left
A natural born genius, with a mind like Da Vinci, possessing unparalleled intelligence and talent at all things, even when you seem to lack the necessary traits to really ascend to the top. Not only are you able to effortlessly unlock most puzzles and solve most problems, you can absorb entire fields of academic study into your mind in just weeks of study or master multiple systems of magecraft, such as alchemy or elemental magecraft, in a few years, even should you be a completely ordinary first generation magus with just a few ordinary circuits. Whether it be a skill or an ability, you simply possess an overwhelming talent for it that when combined with your own breathtaking genius, allows you to quickly become world class and then surpass what is thought possible by almost anyone else, despite being a normal person. You're incredibly smart, are incredibly talented in all
you do and can take these skills far higher than normally possible for ordinary people.
Amusing. This pull was as amusing as it was amazing. Da Vinci, though almost certainly inferior in talent to Morgan le Fay, who hadn't even taken 24 hours to figure out how to Rayshift her consciousness into the past and managed to recreate Rhongomyniad, was one of the greatest geniuses in the Nasuverse. For me, who I valued talent above all else because I had, time and time again, seen that talent was far superior to anything else, this was something worth having.
That mastering fields of magecraft would still take years was bothersome but, if Da Vinci's talent was in the Grimoire, who's to say that others weren't there, too?
This, on its own, would enhance my talent even further and so was worth any cost in my eyes. At the very least, I could admit that my talent almost certainly fell short of Fate's Leonardo Da Vinci.
No matter how highly I thought of myself, I still fell short in that regard – though that may have been due to my biases influencing my image of Da Vinci's talent.
Ignoring those thoughts, I purchased the perk and, interestingly enough, noticed little difference until I began to think on, well, anything. From the way I drew things in the past to quantum sciences I'd simply not cared enough about to study them, connections formed in much the same way they'd always done for me but to an even larger degree.
If my previous talent was a field of flowers, this was an entire mountain covered in them and every flower bloomed at least thrice as large as before.
In a way, my view of the world was unchanged. In another way, my view of the world was revolutionized. What I saw remained the same but I saw it in greater detail as if I'd needed glasses before and only now finally put them on.
With this, I decided to begin looking into this world's magic. The study of magic in this world was only about thirty years old and I knew that there was much the researchers simply hadn't figured out yet but I was sure that there'd be at least some worthwhile information out there.
It only took me until a couple minutes after midnight to accept that this world's magic 'system' was an underdeveloped, disjointed mess.
It wasn't even the fault of the researchers. The primary source of magical knowledge in this world was the study of the abilities of those who'd triggered. However, triggering didn't actually give any knowledge on how to do those things, it just became instinctive. And the same was true for those who got skills out of rune stones.
Not only that but the researchers had to find some way to actually make their findings comprehensible to others and therefore had to basically invent an entirely new set of terms for their discoveries.
Thirty years weren't enough to create an entirely new field operating on a form of energy that people hadn't even be able to analyze without relying on a hunter sensing it until six years ago when the first mana analysis machine had been built by an artificer who barely knew how the damn thing worked because she'd built it on instinct.
All those reasons put together meant that only extremely minor spells were able to be learnt through magical universities and the general fields of study. In all honesty, I was better off trying to learn the magic systems of other worlds and trying to find similarities to the small amounts of knowledge known to the humans of this one.
"Being an adult would make this all so much easier." I muttered to myself, annoyed by all my plans running into the same issue: A lack of time.
Being 15 – and I was very glad that Missy and I had been born earlier than my sister had in the world of Worm – meant that I was beholden to my parents. In theory, I could take my GED and even get an apartment of my own, and I almost certainly would at least take my GED so I could get out of school, but I didn't actually want to get away from my parents, just from the fights they got into.
Then again, I had no need of sleep and, if I were to quit school, there'd be up to 10 hours a day during which I could just leave for other worlds.
The more I thought about it, the more attractive the thought was to me. It wouldn't let me spend longer periods of time in other worlds but it'd let me spend enough time in them that I'd be able to gain things from them.
And I wanted to immediately jump into a new world after setting a timer on my phone but, after taking a moment to force myself to calm down, I decided to first roll for a new power since midnight had already passed.

As you progress, you will do things that are hard, or even borderline impossible. Likewise, there will be many times you will need various resources to help accomplish upcoming goals. These two are now intrinsically tied hand-in-hand.
As you do difficult tasks, you will be rewarded with all sorts of various materials to help you do better or fulfill needs and demands you have, depending on the difficulty and scale of what you have accomplished. This is true, regardless of if there is actually anyone to reward you then, and instead, they will simply appear in a location you control or own, if nobody can reward you then.
A power that would be useful over time but not immediately. Despite that, it promised to be valuable and I'd regain the points spent on it the next day so I decided to purchase it.
And, then, I focused on the power I'd felt thrumming inside myself and willed myself to travel.
In an instant, my bedroom was replaced by a swirling mess of colours that gave me a headache when I tried to focus on any part of it. Another moment passed and then I found myself back in reality – just not in the reality I'd left.
Notes:
So I like the Celestial Grimoire but it has a lot of issues.
One issue is that it relies entirely on chance, making it possible to just constantly get passives instead of magic. I tried to fix that issue by adding the Traveler and Foreigner powers from LtOuromov's Worm CYOA.
By far the biggest issue, in my opinion, is that most Celestial Grimoire stories just end up being boring because the MC will inevitably gain stupidly strong powers that the setting isn't ready for. Multiversal travel kind of fixes that but it doesn't really so I instead created a setting in which the MC not having the CYOA's Grimoire (which is even more stupidly powerful due to giving points daily) as well as the Traveler and Foreigner powers guarantees a bad end for all the Earths this setting's Scion would wipe clean.
As for why I chose to make the MC Missy's twin sister, one reason is that spatial magic is cool and the other is that, to make the build work, I had to give the MC several Geasa that would be kind of meaningless if I had just done the good old orphan MC thing and, if I'm not doing that, I might as well make her family situation something interesting to write.
Moving on, while I already have several chapters of this story written, it actually takes me quite a bit of time to write the new arcs for this story because I have to look into various settings and figure out how, if at all, I want to change and, most importantly, use them for this story.
Some settings, I've already decided on and they're the most important ones for the final arc of the story but, everything else, I leave up to chance. So, if you have any settings you'd like to see, feel free to suggest them in the comments and I might add them.
Also, just to clarify, the ending and most of the really important plot points have already been planned out but I left enough room to add entirely new settings and subplots that might even influence the main plot, which is the one advantage of writing a setting where the endgame is as massive as it is in this one: It's really damn difficult for something to impact the final arc enough to actually change what'll happen in it with what I already have planned, which is also why I can comfortably leave the Celestial Grimoire as random and as frequent as it is.
On another note, I'm bad at both tags and summaries so, if anyone wants to suggest changes to either of those two, please do so because I could really use the help.
