The chamber fell into a tense silence as Hephaestus's voice echoed off the marble walls.
"HOW DARE YOU! You think YOU CAN WEAPONIZE PREGNANCY against US? Huh? We have the right! Just like the men! Can't you see that? It's disrespectful, and unbecoming of you, Damien! I cannot believe you thought of that! Unbelievable!"
Loki nodded, her arms crossed, her expression stern. "I'm with her, Damien. What you suggested just now... it's just not right."
Damien raised his hands, his voice carrying a note of desperate explanation. "I didn't mean it that way. All I'm saying..."
"No, Damien." Hestia's voice cut through, soft but firm. "That is just wrong."
...
24 Hours Before The Meeting
...
The laboratory was quiet, save for the soft hum of arcane energies and the occasional crackle of Riveria's analysis spells. She leaned over the pendant, her brow furrowed in concentration, her fingers tracing the fading aura of divinity.
"Look! Look! It stopped!" Riveria's voice carried a note of breakthrough. "It's subsiding... You were right!"
Damien's shadows retracted from the pendant, coiling back into his form like a living cloak. "And now?"
Riveria studied the pendant, her eyes narrowing. "Yeah... it's returning. That confirms it." She turned to him, her expression a mixture of awe and caution. "Your shadows have a property that allows them to kill divinity, or shut it down somehow."
Damien's eyes widened with realization. "And that's why I was able to get Hestia pregnant then?"
"Most likely, yeah." Riveria nodded slowly. "Which means your shadows are the key. If you can wrap them around a goddess, they'd be stripped of divinity temporarily. Which would mean..." She paused, letting the implications sink in. "They could get pregnant."
A grin spread across Damien's face. "Well, that's good! Now I can survive every goddess wanting a piece of my dick!"
Riveria laughed, shaking her head. "Oh, please. You would've loved it."
Damien's expression grew thoughtful. "I guess we should talk to Loki about this. Establish some sort of rules, or method, so we can identify which goddess we allow to be pregnant."
Riveria blinked. "What? Allow?"
"Well, yeah, of course." Damien's tone was matter-of-fact. "I ain't letting every goddess have this. Hell no. Don't want to fill the world with demigods that would be irrational."
He moved toward the door, then paused, glancing back. "By the way, keep this a secret, okay? I don't want it to leak."
He left without waiting for a response.
Riveria watched him go, her expression clouded with guilt.
...
Minutes Before The Meeting
...
Damien entered the meeting chamber, his gaze sweeping across the assembled goddesses. "Hello, everyone. Glad to see you all here... or maybe not." He settled into his chair, his tone casual. "Freya, Hestia, Loki, Hephaestus, Demeter, and Kali. I don't see the others?"
Loki stepped forward, her voice carrying a note of authority. "We didn't invite them. This is a meeting by the goddesses for the goddesses."
Damien's brow furrowed. "O... kay? What's this about?"
Loki's eyes narrowed. "Damien, we heard that you found how to strip away divinity from a goddess. And we heard that it can be a reason to help goddesses get pregnant."
Damien's expression shifted, a flicker of wariness crossing his face. "...Riveria told you? But I told her to keep it a secret."
Demeter's voice was sharp, carrying a note of outrage. "Unbelievable! I was hoping she was wrong! How could you do that!"
Damien raised his hands, his voice defensive. "Okay, what is this about? Seriously? What else did she say?"
Freya stepped forward, her tone cold. "We know about your plan to create rules and methods to identify which goddess you 'ALLOW' to get pregnant."
Damien nodded slowly. "Yeah, I mean... that's the plan."
"DAMIEN!" Hestia's voice was a sharp cry, her eyes wide with shock.
"Wh-what?" Damien looked around, genuinely confused. The goddesses were all staring at him like he had committed a grave sin.
Hephaestus stepped forward, her voice trembling with righteous anger. "Tell me, Damien... who are you to decide which goddess deserves to have the gift of a child? Huh? Who do you think you are?!"
Realization dawned on Damien's face. His eyes widened, and his voice rose in hurried explanation. "Wait a minute, wait, wait, hold on. I didn't mean it like that. What? No!" He leaned forward, his tone earnest. "Listen, I plan to distribute this, okay? With your guys' help! But you don't exactly expect me to allow ANYONE to have this, right? Not all goddesses are good people. What if some decide to raise children as weapons? Or enemies of Orario? We don't even know how strong these kids will be. They're demigods, you know!"
Loki's voice was flat, unimpressed. "Oh, is that so? And how do you plan on deciding that?"
Damien's eyes darted around the room. "Well... I don't know... goddesses allied to us. Those with good alignment... you know."
"HOW DARE YOU!" Hephaestus's voice rose again, her fury undiminished. "You think YOU CAN WEAPONIZE PREGNANCY against US? Huh? We have the right! Just like the men! Can't you see that? It's disrespectful, and unbecoming of you, Damien! I cannot believe you thought of that! Unbelievable!"
Loki nodded, her expression grim. "I'm with her, Damien. What you suggested just now... it's just not right."
"I didn't mean it that way. All I'm saying—" Before Damien could finish, Hestia spoke, her voice soft but carrying a weight that silenced the room.
"No, Damien. That is just wrong."
Kali stepped forward, her voice sharp. "You didn't think this through, did you?"
"Clearly not," Freya added, her tone cold.
Hestia approached him, her eyes filled with centuries of longing. "Damien... male gods don't have to deal with any of this. No rules, no regulation, no having to be part of your alliance. They can have children. But us? Female goddesses? We CAN'T!" Her voice cracked with emotion. "Some of us have dreamt of this for thousands of years. THOUSANDS! What do you think a familia even is, Damien?"
She paused, letting the weight of her words settle.
"It's the dream. The dream realized through humans. We yearn and wish for this. You can't hold it back. Even if there are evil goddesses, even if some plan to use their kids as weapons... we deal with that as it comes. We can't be judges over the giving of life. It's a wish—a sacred thing any woman should be able to experience."
Damien was silent for a long moment. His gaze swept across the disappointed faces before him, and something shifted in his expression. He exhaled slowly, his voice carrying a note of genuine remorse.
"You're... right. I shouldn't have said that. Or planned that." He shook his head. "It was a rash decision. I didn't consider the feelings of female goddesses. Especially as a human, I treated you all like... cattle or something. My bad. I really am sorry." He met each of their eyes. "Once I find a way to mass-produce this, I'll provide it to all. No matter who."
The tension in the room eased, if only slightly. Hestia stepped forward, her voice warm with gratitude. "Thank you, Damien. Truly. You are a gift. You created and solved a problem all goddesses suffer from." She paused, her voice dropping. "We are sorry to call you out like that. It's just... for us... it's the only thing we ever wished for."
Damien nodded slowly. "Yes. And you're right. It's only fair. Yes, I invented or created said solution, but that doesn't mean I should deny the right to some." He looked at each of them, his voice sincere. "I completely agree. I didn't consider it enough. I thank you all for this meeting. I might have made a terrible mistake if not for you all. So... thank you."
He stood, turning to leave.
As the door closed behind him, Demeter's voice broke the silence. "You think we came off too harsh?"
Loki shook her head slowly. "No. Damien is a smart one. He knows we had to. And he understands."
...
Damien walked through the corridor, his footsteps echoing against the stone. He found Riveria waiting for him, her expression a mixture of guilt and fear.
As soon as she saw him, she bowed deeply, her voice trembling. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I betrayed your trust. I had to... I just..."
Damien walked to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Stand up."
She straightened, her eyes wet with unshed tears.
Damien's voice was warm, carrying a note of genuine appreciation. "You did the right thing, Riveria. I almost made an irreparable mistake. Only you stopped me. So... thank you."
Riveria blinked, confusion flickering across her face. "But I reported something you said I should keep a secret."
Damien smiled, his hand still resting on her shoulder. "You did it for my sake and for the people's sake. That's a sign of a great advisor."
Riveria's eyes widened. "Advisor?"
"Of course." Damien began to walk forward, his voice carrying a note of quiet confidence. "Your future position. When I become the King of Orario."
He left her standing there, a slow smile spreading across her face.
