Shanks smiled when he saw the apprehensive look on the faces of Shamrock and Uta. The air felt a little heavier after his explanation. After all, they had just learned that awakening their Mangekyou Sharingan—and gaining such powerful abilities—came with a cost. If they used it regularly, they would inevitably go blind.
That thought lingered.
Uta's fingers curled slightly at her side, and Shamrock's expression tightened just a fraction. The weight of that future settled quietly over them, bringing with it a mix of fear and uncertainty.
Then Shanks chuckled.
"Look at your faces," he said, a grin spreading across his lips. "You both are looking quite cute when you're this terrified."
Uta immediately pouted, her brows knitting together as she shot him an annoyed look. "After telling us that we might become blind in the future after using the Mangekyou Sharingan, you are finding this cute? You are really heartless, Father."
For a brief moment, there was silence—then Shanks burst into loud laughter, the tension in the air breaking as easily as glass.
"You both don't have to worry," he said, still smiling, his tone far more reassuring now. "Do you really think that after helping you both awaken—or forcefully awakening—your Mangekyou Sharingan, I wouldn't do something about its side effects?"
He leaned ahead slightly, his gaze steady, confidence unwavering.
"There is a method to cure the side effects of the Mangekyou Sharingan," he continued, his voice calm and certain. "And it's actually quite simple."
A faint pause followed, just enough to draw their attention fully back to him.
"That is—to exchange your eyes."
As soon as Shamrock and Uta heard this, both of them froze for a moment, confusion immediately surfacing on their faces. They glanced at each other briefly before Shamrock spoke, his brows furrowing slightly.
"Father… you mean to say that we have to transplant each other's eyes and exchange our eyes?"
Shanks nodded without hesitation. "Exactly, that is what I mean." His tone was calm, almost casual, as if he were explaining something far less extreme. "To remove the side effects of the Mangekyou Sharingan, you can simply transplant the eyes of another person—preferably your sibling."
"After transplanting the Mangekyou Sharingan," Shanks continued, "you will be free from its side effects. And not only that, but the ocular power of your eyes will become even stronger." His gaze sharpened just slightly. "The techniques you use will be far more powerful. And, not to mention… the Susanoo—an exclusive ability of the Mangekyou Sharingan."
He paused just enough to let the weight of his words settle.
"If you use it with the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, the strength of the Susanoo—its defense, everything—will be far higher than that of a normal Mangekyou Sharingan Susanoo."
For a brief second, silence followed.
Then Shamrock and Uta looked at each other again—but this time, the confusion was gone.
In its place, there was hope.
And excitement.
Their eyes seemed to shine a little brighter, as if something had clicked. So there's still a way forward… The fear that had lingered before began to fade, replaced by a growing anticipation.
Following the awakening of the Mangekyou Sharingan, they had felt a new power manifest deep within them.
Something exclusive to their Mangekyou Sharingan.
Shamrock had already experienced a glimpse of it. His fingers twitched slightly at the memory. At that time, around him, a rib cage had formed—massive, translucent, with two skeletal arms extending outward. Even now, recalling it sent a faint thrill through him.
That was Susanoo… in its initial form.
And he clearly remembered how it felt.
The defense of that rib cage surrounding him—it had been incredibly strong. Unyielding. Like nothing he had ever experienced before.
If that was just the beginning…
Shamrock's gaze sharpened, a quiet intensity rising within him.
If that power became even stronger…
Then he could only imagine just how powerful he would truly become.
Even with that thought, both of them still felt a lingering nervousness. The idea itself was overwhelming—transplanting eyes was not something to take lightly. It wasn't just power; it was their sight, their very perception of the world.
Uta hesitated for a brief moment before speaking, her voice carrying a trace of uncertainty. "Father… can it really be successful? Won't there be complications?"
A faint tension hung in the air as her words settled.
Shanks looked at them, his expression steady, unwavering. "You both don't have to worry about it," he said calmly. "If you both were just normal Uchiha clan members—then yes, there could have been issues. There would have been a chance that it might not work at all."
He paused slightly, letting that sink in before continuing.
"That would have been the case for ordinary Uchiha clan members," he added, his tone shifting with quiet certainty. "But you both are different."
There was a subtle emphasis in his voice now.
"You are half Uchiha and half Uzumaki. You carry the vitality of the Uzumaki clan. So because of that not only will your Mangekyou Sharingan blindness occur much more slowly—even if you do not undergo the transplant—your eyes won't deteriorate as quickly as those of a pure Uchiha clan member using the Mangekyou Sharingan."
Uta blinked, absorbing every word. Shamrock's posture straightened just a little.
"Because you have the vitality of the Uzumaki clan," Shanks repeated, his gaze firm. "And similarly, because of that same vitality, when your eyes are transplanted, it will assist in your speedy recovery. And not just that—it will also greatly increase the chances of a proper and perfect transplantation."
A brief silence followed, but this time it wasn't tense—it was grounding.
"So you both don't have to worry," he said, a faint smile returning to his face. "I have already analyzed everything. The chances are more than ninety percent. And with the healing abilities—and overall skill—of your Aunt Erza…" Shanks added, a hint of confidence threading through his tone, "who can be considered the best doctor just below one person—Tsunade of Konoha…"
His gaze softened slightly.
"You both can rest at ease about it."
For a moment, everything felt steadier. The fear hadn't vanished completely—but it had loosened its grip, replaced by something far more manageable.
A cautious trust.
Both Shamrock and Uta nodded after hearing this. The weight that had been pressing on them earlier had eased, replaced by a clear understanding. Their father hadn't called them here just to warn them about the severity of the Mangekyou Sharingan's side effects—he had also given them a solution.
And not just any solution.
One that needed to be implemented as soon as possible.
With that, the decision was finally made.
Shamrock and Uta agreed without further hesitation—not only because the logic was sound, but because they trusted their father completely. They knew, without a doubt, that he would never allow them to come to harm. If Father says it will work… then it will.
Mikoto had also been informed of everything.
When she first heard about the side effects of the Mangekyou Sharingan, a deep worry had settled within her. Even though she was a Jonin of the Uchiha clan, it did not mean she knew everything about the clan's secrets—especially something as rare and dangerous as the Mangekyou Sharingan.
She knew that there was a level beyond the three-tomoe Sharingan—a power once awakened by the legendary Madara Uchiha.
But beyond that, much remained uncertain.
At present, there were at least four known Mangekyou Sharingan users.
Shamrock and Uta from Uzushiogakure.
And from the Uchiha clan in Konoha—Shisui Uchiha and Itachi Uchiha.
…And another one.
Kakashi Hatake.
Although he was not a member of the Uchiha clan, he possessed a Sharingan—one given to him by his friend, Obito.
…
Within the next few days, Erza performed the operation on both Shamrock and Uta. The atmosphere during those hours was tense, quiet—every second stretching longer than it should. Yet, under her precise hands, everything proceeded smoothly.
The operation was clearly very successful.
There were no complications.
Not even a single unexpected issue.
Now, all that remained was time.
Shamrock and Uta needed to wait for their eyes to fully stabilize and become normal again. It would typically take a few weeks—perhaps even up to a month—depending on recovery ability.
But they were different.
Because they were half Uzumaki.
That vitality flowed strongly within them, aiding their healing far beyond that of ordinary shinobi.
Because of that, they would definitely recover faster.
Most likely… within a week or so.
And that was exactly what happened.
Almost two weeks passed after the operation. The days had been slow, filled with careful monitoring and quiet anticipation. Shamrock and Uta remained in the hospital the entire time, thick bandages wrapped securely around their eyes, shutting them off from the world as their bodies healed.
Today, finally, the moment had come.
After confirming that their eyes had completely healed, the bandages were ready to be removed.
The room felt unusually still.
One by one, the layers of cloth were gently unwrapped. As the final strips loosened and fell away, a faint light touched their eyes again after days of darkness.
Uta and Shamrock both blinked instinctively.
At first, everything was blurry.
Shapes were indistinct, colors blending into one another as their vision struggled to adjust. Their eyes watered slightly, reacting to the sudden brightness. But slowly… very slowly… the haze began to clear.
Contours sharpened.
Colors settled.
And then—
They could see.
Standing right in front of them were Erza, Shanks, and Mikoto, all watching closely, their expressions filled with quiet anticipation.
Noticing the way Shamrock and Uta's eyes focused, the subtle shifts in their gaze, everyone present immediately understood.
At the very least—
They could see.
Mikoto stepped forward almost instinctively, her motherly concern overtaking everything else. She moved closer, standing between them, her eyes scanning their faces carefully.
"Are you both alright?" she asked, her voice soft but urgent. "Are you seeing fine, or are there any complications?"
Uta blinked once more, her vision now fully clear, before a small, reassuring smile appeared on her face. "No, Mother," she said gently. "We are absolutely fine."
She paused for a brief second, as if testing her sight again, her gaze shifting slightly.
"I even feel that my eyes can see even better than before."
Shamrock nodded in agreement, his expression steady but with a hint of amazement beneath it. "I also feel the same as Uta," he said. "My eyes are perfectly fine. I can see clearly."
Hearing their words, Mikoto's shoulders visibly relaxed.
A quiet wave of relief washed over her, easing the worry that had been building within her all this time.
