The next morning, Shanks was in his office. After working through a few papers on his desk, he set the last sheet aside and stood up. The faint rustle of parchment lingered in the quiet room. Walking toward the window, he looked out at the open sky, pale morning light stretching across the horizon, and thought, Raphael, how much chance do you think Shamrock and Uta have of awakening their Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan?
As soon as his voice echoed within his mind, Raphael responded, calm and precise as ever: The chances are more than 90%. After all, they have the blood of the Uzumaki clan in their veins. First of all, even if they remain in their Mangekyou Sharingan form, they will not lose their eyesight so quickly. And if their eyes are transplanted into one another, then they will both definitely awaken the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
Shanks gave a small, almost imperceptible nod. A quiet confidence settled in his chest. He trusted the resilience of the Uzumaki bloodline—their vitality, their unnatural endurance. Because of that, their recovery rates would be far superior. Shamrock and Uta should be able to withstand the transplant of their respective Mangekyou Sharingan, exchanging them with one another. And by doing so, they would inevitably awaken the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
Good… that removes one uncertainty.
Just at that moment, the soft sound of the door sliding open broke the stillness. Shamrock and Uta stepped inside, their movements measured. The light from the window cast long shadows behind Shanks as he stood with his back to them, still gazing at the sky.
Both of them paused for a brief second before bowing slightly.
"Father, you called for us."
Shanks turned at that moment. The soft light from the window shifted across his face as his gaze settled on both of them. "Yes, I called for both of you here to talk about a few things."
He gestured lightly toward the space in front of him before taking his own seat behind the desk. The Zaisu (wooden chair with no leg) creaked faintly as he sat. Shamrock and Uta moved forward and lowered themselves onto the cushions on the ground, sitting opposite Shanks' table, their posture straight and attentive.
A brief silence lingered in the room.
"Both of you," Shanks began, his tone calm yet firm, "awakened your Mangekyou Sharingan yesterday." His eyes moved between them. "And after realizing the abilities of your Mangekyou Sharingan, you should now understand just how powerful it is… and how much of a boost it can bring to your strength."
Uta's fingers tightened slightly over her sleeve before she spoke. "Although I did not like the process of awakening the Mangekyou Sharingan…" Her voice carried a faint trace of discomfort, but she continued steadily, "…I can say for sure that the abilities I have gained after its awakening are really very powerful."
A quiet chuckle escaped Shanks as he leaned back slightly. "Yes… especially you, Uta." His eyes narrowed just a little in interest. "Your ability… what do you call it?"
Uta answered without hesitation, "I call it Kotouta."
Shanks nodded slowly. "Yes, your ability—Kotouta—is a very broken kind of ability." His voice lowered slightly, carrying weight. "Whoever hears your voice… no matter how far they may be—if your voice reaches their ears, their consciousness will be pulled directly into a dimension that is completely under your control."
He paused for a fraction of a second, as if recalling the sensation.
"And once they are there…" a faint smile touched his lips, "…you are essentially omnipotent within that space."
The air in the room grew heavier with the implication.
"So yes," Shanks continued, his gaze steady on her, "your ability is truly powerful. Even I had to use my full strength just to prevent your ability from pulling me inside."
Shanks thought to himself, It was all thanks to Raphael that I was able to be protected. At the exact moment, Raphael warned me and shut my ears completely using the chakra points in my body. So Uta's voice did not directly enter my ears, and I was saved. As for Guy and Antares, they both, with their respective abilities, were also able to resist against Uta's ability. So… Uta's ability is really very powerful.
A faint breath left him before his expression hardened.
Looking at both of them with a serious face, Shanks said, "Yes… so as I was saying, you both have awakened your Mangekyou Sharingan and obtained very powerful abilities." His voice slowed, each word carrying weight. "But there is always a price for everything you gain."
The room seemed to grow quieter.
"And the biggest price—or rather, the side effect—of your Mangekyou Sharingan…" His gaze sharpened slightly. "is that the more you use it, the faster you will become blind. And eventually, there will come a moment when you will completely lose your sight… and become totally blind."
The words settled heavily in the air.
"Of course," Shanks continued, his tone steady, "with your Observation Haki, you can technically continue fighting and live as a ninja. But it will be… difficult."
For a moment, silence.
As soon as Shamrock and Uta heard this, both of their faces turned pale. A subtle tension crept into their bodies, their shoulders stiffening. They were only fifteen years old—far too young to even imagine losing something as fundamental as their sight. No one would willingly accept such a loss unless pushed to desperation.
Blind…?
The thought lingered, heavy and suffocating.
And now, just by awakening the power of the Mangekyou Sharingan… would they truly lose their eyesight?
The question hung in their minds, unanswered, pressing down on them like an unseen weight.
