Chapter 255 - Cleaning? That's simple!

Chapter 255 - Cleaning? That's simple!

The luxurious car pulled up to the entrance of an orphanage.

As it came to a complete stop, Kanata Totokubara opened the door and stepped out, gracefully opening her parasol to shield herself from the afternoon sun.

Seeing this, Roy also opened his door and stepped out.

"Why did you bring me here?" Roy asked, looking at the building with a hint of doubt.

He found it strange that the Student Council Treasurer would bring him to an orphanage for a disciplinary matter.

"The members of our council often come here to do volunteer work when we have the time," Kanata explained smoothly. "During the holidays, there's practically no official council business at the school, so I came here to help out today."

"So... you're drafting me as free labor?" Roy gave her a strange look. He had assumed the Student Council's investigation would involve a rigid, bureaucratic process.

He didn't expect to be pulled into work.

"It can't be helped. The Student Council is always a little short on manpower," Kanata smiled slightly, her tone generous yet unyielding. "It just so happens that someone fell right into my hands. Naturally, I have to make the most of it."

"Consider helping out at the orphanage this afternoon as your punishment for causing a scene in public."

"Fair enough," Roy shrugged, accepting the terms without complaint.

"Follow me."

Kanata walked through the front gate with elegant steps, and Roy followed closely behind.

There weren't any children in the front yard, but he could hear the energetic sounds of kids playing somewhere in the back.

"Kanata, you're finally here!"

A vibrant, energetic female voice rang out. A girl walked out of the nearby building wearing a gym suit.

She had a very distinct look, topped off by a headband with two animal ears that made her look like a werewolf girl.

"Huh?"

Just as she was about to greet Kanata, the girl's eyes locked onto Roy. She stopped dead in her tracks and let out a loud gasp of surprise.

"Vice President, emergency! Kanata brought a man over!"

The girl immediately started shouting over her shoulder, waving her hands frantically toward the open door to beckon the people inside.

"What's all the commotion?"

A blonde boy, who was so short he looked like an elementary school student, walked out of the room holding a cleaning rag.

"You're Roy, right? The new student at Hagun Academy?" The boy blinked in surprise upon seeing him, then smiled warmly.

"I just reported to the Chairwoman yesterday," Roy replied truthfully.

"Then we'll be schoolmates. Please take care of us," the boy smiled. "But why did you come here with Kanata?"

"I was on my way here and happened to bump into Roy. When he heard the council was doing volunteer work, he kindly offered to come and help us out," Kanata answered smoothly, not missing a beat.

Hearing this blatant lie, Roy looked at Kanata in surprise.

"Isn't that right, Roy?" Kanata smiled at him, her eyes curving slightly.

Roy nodded silently, playing along with this girls script.

"That's wonderful! Our Student Council has too few members. I didn't know how long it would take to clean this entire place," the blonde boy smiled. "With an extra pair of hands, it will be much easier."

"Oh, so it was just a chance encounter? And here I thought you had finally escaped the single life!" The energetic girl crossed her arms, looking thoroughly disappointed by the lack of gossip.

"Don't speak nonsense," Kanata reprimanded her lightly.

"It's not my fault I misunderstood! You suddenly showed up with a guy," the girl stuck out her tongue. "Aside from council members, you're practically insulated from boys unless it's strictly for work."

"I am not insulated from boys. I simply maintain proper boundaries," Kanata replied unhurriedly.

"Allow me to introduce them," the blonde boy stepped in.

"I am Utakata Misogi, the Vice President of the Student Council. And this loudmouth is our General Affairs Manager, Renren Tomaru."

"Hi! I'm Renren Tomaru! I'll be a second year when the term starts, which makes me your senior!" Renren bounded up to Roy with a vigorous, overly familiar smile.

"By the way, freshman, do you have a girlfriend? If not, how about us going out?!" The tomboyish girl leaned in close, her eyes shining as she boldly shot her shot.

"Renren, don't scare the new student. Give him some space," Utakata sighed, looking completely used to her antics.

"What? Don't interfere, Vice President! I'm confessing seriously!" Renren declared proudly. "If I score a handsome fresher like him as a boyfriend, I'd have so much face walking around campus!"

"Sorry, I already have someone I like," Roy replied. As he spoke, he intentionally or perhaps unintentionally glanced toward Kanata.

In truth, Roy was just deflecting.

Sorry, girl, but you're overly bold.

"Oho~" Renren noticed Roy's glance. She flashed a highly meaningful smirk, looked over at Kanata, and dramatically sighed. "I see how it is. Kanata, it looks like I was a step too late!"

"???"

Kanata blinked, genuinely confused by Renren's implication. Why was she dragging her into this?

"By the way, what should I be doing?" Roy asked, smoothly changing the subject before the teasing could escalate.

"Renren and I are cleaning the interior rooms," Utakata said with a smile, pointing toward the building. "We've finished wiping the windows on the east side, but we still have the west wing. You and Kanata can be responsible for cleaning the main hall's floors."

There was a bucket of soapy water and a mop sitting in front of a massive floor-to-ceiling window nearby.

"Cleaning? That's simple," Roy nodded.

However, he didn't reach for the mop or the vacuum cleaner. In this world, the existence of the supernatural was public knowledge, and using magic for mundane tasks didn't require hiding.

It was incredibly convenient.

Roy raised his hand.

A pale emerald magic circle expanded, covering the entire ceiling of the main hall.

Then, a perfectly controlled gust of wind swept through the room, gathering every speck of dust and dirt from every corner into a neat, swirling pile in the center of the floor.
