Chapter 554 - Chapter 554: Battle Factory

Chapter 554: Battle Factory

~Third POV~

[Sinnoh Region, Next Day, Battle Zone – Resort Area]

The golden rays of the early Sinnoh morning cascaded over the opulent Villa in the Resort Area, painting the pristine white walls with a warm, inviting glow. Azure stepped out onto his balcony, taking a deep, satisfying breath of the crisp, sea-tinged air.

He murmured, a soft smile gracing his lips, "Another beautiful day in the Sinnoh Region, huh, guys?"

Perched comfortably on his right shoulder, Pikachu's ears twitched, its bright eyes scanning the horizon. It chirped, a spark of excitement dancing at the tips of its cheek pouches, "Pika-Pika! (Top of the morning!)"

On Azure's head, Eevee stretched languidly, letting out a soft yawn before rubbing her head against his scalp affectionately. Tucked securely within the inner pocket of his jacket, a tiny Pichu (Mew) stirred, its tiny nose poking out inquisitively. It squeaked, a question in its innocent tone, "Pi-chu? (Five more minutes… Zzzz…)"

Azure chuckled, gently patting the spot where Pichu (Mew) rested, "It means we're off to the Fight Area, little one. But you take a nap. But for today, it's time for the Battle Factory. Gotta get that third print!"

From his Arc Phone, Rotom's screen flickered to life, displaying a detailed map of the Battle Zone. Its voice, a synthesized blend of data and enthusiasm, buzzed from the device, "Affirmative. Navigating the route to Fight Area, estimated travel time: 15 minutes. Optimal path identified."

Azure asked, glancing towards his shadow, "And Gengar?"

A ripple in the darkness beneath him, and then Gengar's mischievous grin materialized, her large, red eyes glowing faintly. She purred, her voice a low, raspy whisper that only Azure and his closest companions could hear audibly as a phantom chuckle escaped her, "Present and accounted for, Boss! Ready to spectate another display of your tactical genius, or perhaps, your glorious blunders?"

Azure merely rolled his eyes good-naturedly as he replied, "Always with the blunders, Gengar. Let's aim for genius today, shall we?"

With that, they left as Azure thought goodheartedly, 'Good thing I made some friends yesterday. Those Stats Trainers were tough and chill. Let's make a quick pit stop to meet them up…'

////

[Sinnoh Region, Battle Zone – Survival Area]

Their first stop wasn't the Battle Factory itself, but rather the Survival Area, where Azure had arranged for his formidable Sinnoh team to undergo specialized training. As they neared the designated training grounds, the distinct sounds of Pokémon battling and human instruction filled the air.

He spotted the familiar faces of the Stats Trainers: Riley, calm and collected, observing his Lucario's movements; Cheryl, her Chansey diligently assisting with recovery; Buck, ever-passionate, guiding his Claydol; Mira, her Kadabra's psychic energy shimmering; and Marley, her Arcanine barking orders with dignified grace.

Azure called out, waving as he approached, "Hey, everyone!"

Riley turned, a knowing smile on his face as he returned the greeting, "Azure. Right on time. Your team is eager."

Azure nodded, with a sense of relief washing over him. He said happily, "Thanks again for agreeing to this, Riley. It means a lot to know they're in such capable hands while I'm tackling the Factory."

Cheryl chimed in, adjusting her spectacles, "The pleasure is ours. It's not every day one gets to challenge the 'Uncrowned Champion'. Your Pokémon are remarkable, Azure. Such vibrant spirits."

Buck exclaimed, his eyes glinting with excitement, "Especially your Lucario! That Aura Sphere training yesterday… phenomenal!"

Azure chuckled, recalling the previous afternoon. He had spent hours with Riley, guiding his own Lucario and Riolu in mastering the formidable Aura Storm after their battle between Mega Lucario and Mega Lucario Z.

His Lucario, a powerful male, had engaged in a series of rigorous sparring matches with Riley's, their auras clashing in brilliant blue explosions that echoed through the training grounds. The Stats Trainers had watched, captivated, as Azure's fighting-type excelled, seamlessly weaving in close-quarters combat with energy attacks.

His Riolu had shown immense promise, its tiny form crackling with nascent aura energy, mimicking its evolved counterpart's movements with surprising precision. And Azure's Lucario didn't mind showing the trick using Aura Sphere early.

Azure agreed, a hint of pride in his voice, "It was quite something. Lucario, Infernape, Gallade, Togekiss, Garchomp, Electivire, Magmortar, Porygon-Z, Froslass, Hisuian Lilligant, Kleavor, Gastrodon, Tangrowth, Hisuian Zoroark – you'll find they're a bit of a handful, but they learn quickly."

He listed off a significant portion of his Sinnoh lineup, the powerhouses he was cultivating specifically for the region. Then added while providing their food, diets, and training plans in manuals, "Porygon-Z needs some data analysis practice, and Froslass is working on her evasiveness against fire types. Alpha Rhyperior and Alpha Garchomp also need to work on speed against smaller, faster opponents. And Electivire and Magmortar could use some dual-type sparring."

Marley affirmed, her Arcanine letting out a confident bark, "Consider it done. We'll ensure they're in top form when you return."

With his Sinnoh team in expert hands, Azure felt a significant burden lift. He could now fully immerse himself in the Battle Factory, knowing his Pokémon were not only safe but actively growing stronger.

Gengar phased out of his shadow for a moment, doing a playful flip before sinking back in, a swirl of purple mist. Azure announced, adjusting his jacket as Pikachu nudged his cheek, Eevee chirped, and Pichu (Mew) wiggled in anticipation, "Alright, boys and girls, let's head to the Factory!"

[Sinnoh Region, Later, Battle Zone – Battle Factory]

The Battle Factory was a buzzing hive of activity, a symphony of shouting trainers, clashing Pokémon, and the distinct hum of advanced machinery.

The air, thick with anticipation and the faint scent of ozone, crackled with competitive energy. Azure, with his loyal crew in tow, navigated the bustling corridors, the sounds growing louder as they approached the main arena.

Eevee squeaked excitedly, her ears swiveling to catch every sound, "Evoi! (Wow, this place is electric)"

Rotom chimed in, "Indeed! Sensory data indicates high levels of enthusiasm and competitive drive amongst participants."

As Azure was led to the registration desk, he observed a battle already in progress on one of the many fields. A young trainer, his face flushed with victory, pumped his fist into the air. He cheered, "Yes! My Wormadam came through!"

Another trainer, a slight frown on her face, approached him. She asked, "Good battle. Ready to trade?"

The youngster eagerly nodded, "Forretress for Wormadam? Deal!"

Azure smiled.

The Battle Factory's unique rules were already evident. He then noticed a prominent sign next to the registration booth: Trainers may not use their own Pokémon. All battles utilize rental Pokémon provided by the Battle Factory.

Azure mused aloud, rubbing his chin with his hand, "Interesting. So, a true test of adaptability and strategy."

Gengar noted, her voice a low thrum against his ear, "A challenge designed to equalize the playing field, Boss. This is less about the power of your bonds, more about the power of your brain."

Azure nodded as he replied, "Precisely, Gengar. And I'm quite alright with that."

Azure approached the desk and asked politely, "Hello there. I'd like to challenge the Level 50 Single Battle."

The attendant, a stern-faced woman in a pristine white uniform, nodded and stated, "Very well. Please select your three Pokémon from the display."

Azure scanned the holographic projections of available Pokémon. His eyes darted across various types, abilities, and movesets. He wasn't looking for raw power; he was looking for synergy and surprise.

After a moment of careful consideration, he made his choice. He asked as he picked the first three, "I'll take the Loudred, the Grimer, and the Qwilfish."

Pikachu tilted its head, a curious cry escaping it, "Pika? (Huh?)"

Gengar commented, "Not exactly your usual lineup, is it, Boss?"

Azure replied with a wink and a helpless smile, "Exactly, Gengar. That's the point. These Pokémon have unique tools. Loudred has powerful sound-based attacks, Grimer's got status moves and decent bulk, and Qwilfish… well, Qwilfish is full of surprises."

He mentally reviewed their potential movesets, already formulating strategies. With his chosen rental Pokémon, Azure was escorted to an unoccupied battlefield. The crowd, a mix of eager challengers and curious spectators, created a low, expectant murmur. He took his position, a sense of familiar anticipation bubbling within him.

He thought, drawing a deep breath, 'This is going to be fun.'

His first opponent was a trainer named Youngster Joey, who led with a Kakuna. Azure called, sending out the sphere-like Pokémon, "Alright, Qwilfish, you're up!"

*POP*

It chirped, its spines bristling defensively, "Qwilfish!"

Joey commanded, "Kakuna, Harden!"

Azure quickly countered, "Not so fast! Qwilfish, Poison Sting!"

The Qwilfish zipped forward, launching a volley of sharp, venomous needles. The Kakuna, still hardening, took the hits, its green shell absorbing some of the impact, but a faint purple shimmer around it indicated a successful poisoning.

Azure pressed, capitalising on the turn, "Now, Spikes!"

*PEW*

Qwilfish deployed a barrier of sharp spikes on Joey's side of the field. The battle progressed with Azure showcasing a surprising command over the rental Pokémon. Later, his Loudred faced a Gastly, its booming voice attack resounding through the arena.

Azure commanded, "Loudred, Supersonic!"

The Gastly, disoriented by the piercing wail, spun erratically. Left defenseless, Azure ordered, "Now, Shadow Ball!"

*PEW*

Loudred, despite its bulk, moved with surprising speed and shot a ball of ghostly energy at the confused Gastly, securing another victory. From the stands, Pikachu, Eevee, Pichu (Mew), Rotom, and Gengar watched intently.

Rotom analyzed, its screen displaying battle statistics, "Such efficient use of disruption tactics. Loudred's sound-based attacks synergize effectively with its physical and special attack prowess."

Gengar added, leaning forward, her eyes gleaming, "He knows how to pick 'em, even if they're not his own. Though I'd prefer to be down there dishing out the pain myself! Damn those rules…"

[Sinnoh Region, Meanwhile, Battle Zone – Battle Factory (Observation Room)]

Unbeknownst to Azure, his performance had drawn the attention of two prominent figures watching from a private observation room overlooking the various battlefields: Palmer, the Tower Tycoon, and Argenta, the Hail Matron.

Palmer remarked, a thoughtful expression on his face as he watched Azure's current match, "He's impressive, isn't he, Argenta? That's the young man who swept through Dahlia and Darach with such… unique flair."

Argenta, ever stoic yet observant, nodded slowly as she added, "Indeed. His adaptability is remarkable. He understands the strengths and weaknesses of unfamiliar Pokémon with surprising speed. He's aiming for Thornton next, I presume?"

He watched avidly as Azure's Qwilfish expertly navigated a tricky situation with a combination of status effects and strategic retreats. Palmer chuckled, a glint in his eye as he said excitedly, "Most likely. And then, perhaps, it will be my turn."

[Sinnoh Region, Later, Battle Zone – Battle Factory]

Azure continued his rampage through the Battle Factory challenge. In one particularly decisive battle, his Qwilfish faced a formidable Kadabra.

Azure commanded, "Qwilfish, Toxic Spikes!"

The Kadabra, a Psychic-type, was nimble, but the venomous spikes blanketed the ground before it. As the Kadabra prepared an attack, Azure seized the moment as he ordered, "Now, Pin Missile!"

*PEW-PEW-STAB*

Qwilfish launched a rapid barrage of sharp, pointy projectiles, landing critical hits on the Kadabra. The Psychic-type faltered, then recoiled from the accumulated damage and poisoned ground.

As it was recalled, a Seedot was sent out. The moment Seedot touched the tainted field, it was immediately poisoned by the Toxic Spikes.

The opponent cried, "Seedot, Bullet Seed!"

But it was too late. The insidious poison began to take its toll, rapidly whittling away at the Seedot's health. With a weak cry, the Seedot fainted, making Azure the decisive winner of the match.

A loud, booming voice echoed through the Battle Factory's intercom system. The Battle Arcade Announcer, recognizable from Azure's previous challenge, boisterously continued, "Ladies and gentlemen, a new challenger triumphs! And what a display of strategic mastery! We also have an update on our esteemed Battle Arcade Frontier Brain, Dahlia! Due to her recent setback, her first loss since the Battle Frontier opened, she is currently undergoing intense personal training to refine her techniques!"

*BZZZT*

Suddenly, a sharp, mechanical buzz pierced the air, startling the announcer mid-sentence. The sound came from a man who had just appeared on the main observation platform, a peculiar, buzzing machine clutched in his hand.

This was Thornton, the Battle Factory Frontier Brain, a man renowned for his analytical mind and his peculiar love for data. His spectacles glinted as he peered down at Azure, a rare, almost imperceptible smile playing on his lips.

Thornton mumbled, adjusting his glasses, "Intriguing."

His gaze was fixated on Azure, who was now approaching the counter to review his next selection of Pokémon. Thornton's voice, though calm, held an underlying intensity, amplified through the arena speakers, "Ah, Challenger Sky. The Battle Factory operates on a unique principle. While you cannot use your own Pokémon, you can trade them after each set of battles."

He gestured towards the holographic display, continuing, "This allows you to adapt, to refine your team composition based on the Pokémon you've faced, or anticipate those you might face. It's not just about winning battles; it's about evolving your team."

Azure nodded, processing Thornton's words. He replied, "So, knowledge of your opponents' potential lineups and the available Pokémon is key."

Thornton's eyes lit up, a flicker of excitement in his otherwise composed demeanor, explained, "Precisely! The most important part of challenging the Battle Factory is knowledge, both of your own Pokémon and your opponent's, for trading. Numerical data, probability calculations, type matchups, move effectiveness… It's all part of the equation."

Azure looked at his current roster – Loudred, Qwilfish, and Grimer. Grimer had performed adequately, but he saw an opportunity.

He decided, hoping to leverage Kadabra's speed and Psychic-type offenses for upcoming challenges, "I'll trade my Grimer for a Kadabra."

Thornton observed, making a quick note on his buzzing device, and uttered in an indifferent tone, "An astute choice. Kadabra offers superior speed and Special Attack compared to Grimer's more defensive utility. A calculated risk, perhaps, but one with a high potential success rate in certain matchup scenarios."

Azure continued his ascent through the Battle Factory, his proficiency with rental Pokémon growing with each match. He was learning to anticipate move sets, exploit weaknesses, and utilize even the most obscure abilities to his advantage.

His core team in the stands continued their vocal support.

Pikachu cheered, pumping a tiny fist as Azure's rental Pokémon secured another win, "Pika-chu! (That's how you do it!)"

Eevee marveled, her bushy tail wagging, "Eevoi? (He's like a Pokémon encyclopedia in human form.)"

Rotom buzzed, impressed, "Query: Analysis of Challenger Sky's decision-making process indicates an intuitive understanding of complex battle algorithms despite a lack of prior data for rental Pokémon."

Gengar purred, eyeing the battlefield, "Intuition, Rotom, that's what separates the good from the great, and my Boss has it in spades. Plus, he's just plain stubborn enough to win anything he sets his mind to."

In Azure's fourteenth battle, he found himself relying on his Qwilfish once more, now facing a particularly bothersome Porygon. The Normal-type Pokémon was proving difficult to hit, its Adaptability ability making its Tri Attack devastating.

Azure commanded, his voice firm, "Qwilfish, endure it!"

*BAM*

Qwilfish took another blast, its HP dangerously low. But that was what Azure was hoping for as he ordered, "Now! Destiny Bond!"

Qwilfish glowed faintly, a desperate, final surge of energy. The Porygon, unaware of the impending doom, fired another Tri Attack.

*WHOOSH—THUD*

Qwilfish was hit, and its eyes glazed over, but as it fainted, a strange, ethereal link shimmered between it and the Porygon. The Porygon, too, collapsed, defeated by the effects of Destiny Bond.

Another victory, hard-earned and strategic. Azure was now one set away from his official battle against Thornton himself.

As Azure walked back to the selection counter, he heard familiar voices nearby. Palmer and Argenta were once again passing by, discussing the nuances of the Battle Zone's various facilities.

Palmer was saying, stroking his chin thoughtfully, "Hmm, perhaps a focus on double battles for the next challenge at the Castle?"

Argenta replied, her gaze distant, "The Arcade has seen an increase in speed-based strategies lately."

Then, their eyes fell upon Azure, who had just finished reviewing his next opponent's data. They paused, watching him with renewed interest.

Azure completed his final set of preliminary battles. The announcer's voice boomed again, congratulating him on clearing the preliminary rounds, "And now, Challenger Sky, prepare yourself for the ultimate test!"

Azure nodded, feeling a surge of adrenaline. He looked around the arena, expecting to see Thornton emerge dramatically. But the Frontier Brain was nowhere in sight. Azure furrowed his brow, a faint sense of confusion washing over him.

He wondered aloud, "Where is he?"

*BZZZT*

Suddenly, a loud, ear-splitting buzzing erupted right behind him. Azure jumped, startled, spinning around to face the source of the noise.

There stood Thornton, precisely where Azure had been looking just moments before, his peculiar machine still buzzing in his hand. His expression, as always, was one of intense, analytical focus.

Thornton stated, his voice devoid of overt emotion, yet carrying a distinct undercurrent of data-driven satisfaction, "Congratulations, Challenger Sky. Your performance metrics are… commendable. My analysis of your team's overall battle efficiency, combined with strategic adaptability, indicates a readiness factor of… 93%."

Azure blinked. Then asked, "93%? What does that even mean?"

Thornton merely pushed his glasses up his nose, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk touching his lips as he said, "That, Challenger Sky, is proprietary information. Suffice it to say, it reflects a high probability of success, but not an absolute certainty. There is always a margin for error, an anomaly in the data."

A Battle Factory guide, a crisp-uniformed man, stepped forward and stated, "Challenger Sky, please remember that for your battle against Frontier Brain Thornton, you must also use rental Pokémon, as per Battle Factory regulations."

Azure grinned, a spark of fierce determination in his eyes. This was it.

The culmination of his efforts was a true test of his strategic prowess against one of Sinnoh's most analytical minds.

He was ready. He could feel the eyes of Palmer and Argenta from above, the eager anticipation of Pikachu, Eevee, Pichu, Rotom, and Gengar in the stands. The buzz of the crowd, the hum of the machines – it all coalesced into a singular, focused moment.

The unavoidable battle.

Azure said confidently, his grin widening in a bold tone, "Alright, Thornton, let's see what that 93% really means."
