As the distance between the Caliburn and the two Emperor 720s continued to shrink, the Caliburn inevitably began to slow down—but still maintained a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, slicing through the oncoming lane against the wind.
Though far from its top speed, the top-tier supercar still cut across the road like a razor-sharp blade.
And even if a sword's thrust slowed, it still carried lethal force.
The cold night wind whipped against the young man's face like a blade, sending the black strands of his hair streaming upward.
In a spare moment, Lin Mo even leaned toward the Caliburn's side mirror to catch a glimpse of himself—realizing that right now, he looked quite a bit like a Super Saiyan from Dragon Ball, his hair billowing wildly in the wind, the only difference being that his hair was black.
If he told any normal person about this scene, they'd think it was a joke. How could someone possibly stand on the hood of a car going 80 kilometers an hour, let alone have the leisure to check their reflection?
But with his Dynalar Sandevistan Mk.3 active, it all made sense.
Given the complexity of the human nervous system, speedware affects each user differently.
That's why companies always describe a given speedware's time-slowing capability as an "average rate."
Though the Mk.3 wasn't the strongest in its class, Lin Mo's sky-high Reflexes stat of 15 let him push its time dilation to an unmatched level.
Now, standing in the roaring wind, everything in front of him moved in a sluggish crawl. Passing cars and pedestrians seemed to move even slower than a normal person running.
Under auto-drive control, the Caliburn's 80 km/h translated to only three or four meters per second in his perception.
A scene that, in real time, looked cool and dramatic became almost comical once slowed. It was less like he was standing on a Caliburn and more like someone was running full-tilt while carrying him.
Like medieval knights charging with lances on horseback—two opponents meeting head-on for a life-or-death clash.
Now, it was the same.
Closer. Ever closer.
The Caliburn, with a madman on its hood, drew nearer. The two Emperor 720s began to sway uncertainly in their lanes, as if their drivers couldn't decide what to do.
Logic told them that even with the Caliburn's reinforced plating, it couldn't stand up to the sheer mass of an Emperor 720.
The two were nothing alike—one a sleek, flowing luxury supercar, the other a high-powered armored brute.
Even if the Caliburn's price far exceeded the Emperor's, and its body was crafted entirely from solid alloy, there was no ignoring the massive size difference.
Still, faced with a suicidal lunatic, some inside the Emperors didn't want to see blood and gore splattering their vehicle. Others, however, screamed for the driver to ram him, eager to watch the boy be reduced to paste.
There was no time left to debate—two, maybe three seconds more, and one of the Emperors would smash into the Caliburn.
But that was never going to happen.
When the Caliburn closed to within a hundred meters, Lin Mo sprang from the hood and sprinted across the asphalt.
The Caliburn kept charging alongside him, but in the slowed world of the Sandevistan, it couldn't even match his pace.
Lightly, almost casually, the young man ran up beside one of the Emperor 720s and slashed through its door.
Inside, the corporate security team didn't even know what was happening. Lin Mo could see the driver's bloodshot eyes locked on the Caliburn ahead, ready to stake everything on a head-on clash.
He swung his blade with calm precision. Blood blossomed in the cabin, the droplets hanging in midair like dewdrops, corpses slumping where they sat.
Then Lin Mo fished a grenade from his pocket, pulled the pin, and tossed it inside—just as casually as if he were discarding an empty soda can.
Next, he repeated the move on the second Emperor 720.
Time flowed like water, silent and still.
In the slowed world, it was the same—monotonous, almost dull.
Once the work was done, Lin Mo ran back to the Caliburn, climbed in, and let it take him forward.
The sky-blue Caliburn passed cleanly between the two Emperor 720s, then smoothly spun around—shifting from wrong-way driving to heading with the flow of traffic without disturbing any other cars.
Boom!
Twin blasts signaled the end. Two roaring fireballs bloomed on the street, black smoke curling upward into the dim, heavy sky. Drivers slowed in shock as they passed the burning wrecks.
No matter how tough the armor, nothing could withstand an internal detonation. A grenade going off outside might not have totaled the Emperors—but inside, it turned them instantly into scrap.
No designer accounted for "what if our own men pull a grenade pin inside the cabin?"
The Caliburn glided past the fireballs like nothing had happened. Its window lowered, and Lin Mo glanced at the blaze with a detached, almost indifferent expression—appreciating his own handiwork.
The window rolled back up. Blue-white exhaust flared from the Caliburn's pipes, and the sky-blue phantom shot forward like a sword, piercing the dim yellow world, leaving only the twin infernos to block the road behind.
Westbrook, an empty parking lot.
A blue-and-white Mizutani Shion pulled in, parking casually in a space.
Keisuke Kitagawa stepped out, his face calm, a cigarette smoldering between his fingers. White smoke curled around his head as he glanced toward the lot's entrance, as if waiting for something.
David staggered out from the passenger side, his legs trembling so badly he had to grip the door to keep from collapsing.
After such a "Fast & Furious" escape, it was a miracle he hadn't thrown up—especially for someone who'd never experienced anything like it.
Now, with the car stopped and the adrenaline fading, his body felt limp and drained.
Then his eyes widened, and he quickly made his way to the trunk. Lifting the lid, he checked on the unconscious blonde woman inside.
"Good—just a few bruises." Seeing she was otherwise unharmed, David let out a relieved breath.
He glanced at Kitagawa, still leaning against the car, smoking. After a pause, he asked:
"Hao-ge… are we waiting here for Lin Mo?"
Kitagawa gave him a brief sidelong glance and nodded. "Mm. We'll wait for him here."
