This might be the first drink that Kaneki Ken could accept after turning into a {Ghoul}.
"It's really good! Are there any more?" Hungry Kaneki Ken couldn't help but ask Yoshimura for more coffee, and he even had the idea of using coffee to fill his stomach.
Yoshimura didn't refuse and started brewing another cup of coffee for Kaneki Ken.
However, while brewing, Yoshimura said, "Although, since ancient times, coffee has been the only delicious treat that {Ghouls} can taste, but relying on coffee alone isn't enough to survive."
Yoshimura's words were like a cold shower for Kaneki Ken, but right now, the only thing Kaneki could accept was coffee.
A few minutes later, Yoshimura finished brewing another cup of American coffee. After pouring it, he took a sealed oil-paper package from his pocket and placed it in front of Kaneki Ken.
"Take this! You need it now. If you need anything, just come find me anytime," Yoshimura said.
Hearing this, Kaneki Ken looked at the small package. "What is this?"
"Food, {Ghoul} food," Yoshimura replied.
In fact, even without Yoshimura saying so, Kaneki Ken could somewhat guess what was wrapped inside the oil paper.
"Don't have any burden. All of these are obtained from humans who committed suicide," Yoshimura continued. "Everyone in the antique coffee shop survives on this. Our principle is not to harm humans. The source of our food is usually from the bodies of the dead or suicides. This is the biggest concession we've made to coexist peacefully with humans!"
"Although not all {Ghouls} agree with our survival principles, what we can do at the antique coffee shop is to make Zone 20 a safe zone where both humans and {Ghouls} can live peacefully. We want more {Ghouls} to believe in our ideals," Yoshimura patiently guided Kaneki Ken's mindset.
After listening to Yoshimura's explanation, Kaneki Ken finally understood what Ryuji had told him before.
After staying in the antique coffee shop for a while, and after Kaneki Ken's very difficult internal struggle and hesitation, he finally took the small oil-paper package and left.
After Kaneki Ken left, Touka Kirishima asked Yoshimura, "Boss, aren't you worried that this guy might expose us?"
"No, the CCG headquarters isn't something {Ghouls} can approach casually. Even if he manages to expose us, with his current state of mind, without our help, he definitely wouldn't survive," Yoshimura replied.
Back at his residence, Kaneki Ken was still overwhelmed by hunger. Although drinking a few cups of coffee at the antique coffee shop helped alleviate the situation somewhat, seeing that package of food still made his heart itch. But he still couldn't bring himself to take that step.
The next day, Kaneki Ken went to school as scheduled, to pick up all his recent class notes, as agreed with Eiri Nagachika.
Since his body had changed after becoming a {Ghoul}, he had taken a long sick leave. As a result, he missed many classes and needed the notes to study on his own.
Eiri Nagachika finally saw Kaneki Ken after a month of hiding and avoiding him.
