Alex walked toward the temple, each step echoing lightly over the cracked ground.
The closer he got, the more uncomfortable he felt. The towering black structure loomed over him, its twisted spires and circling souls making even someone like him feel uneasy.
'Yeah, this place is definitely cursed,' he thought. 'Perfect.'
Footsteps pounded from behind.
"Hey, you idiot!" Kaelith's voice rang out. "I've been yelling at you to stop from a mile away! Are you deaf or something?!"
Alex stopped and turned around slowly.
"Why is it that you can't live without me even for a second?" he asked, his voice calm.
Kaelith's face instantly turned red.
"You—!" She swung her fist at him on reflex.
Alex simply stepped half a step to the side.
Her punch cut through empty air.
Kaelith lost her balance, her body tilting forward.
She flailed for a moment.
But before she could hit the ground—
Someone grabbed her arm and steadied her.
She let out a small sigh of relief.
