Chapter 553: Are You Serious?
Terra was a terrible world. Steven didn't need to say it—Kal'tsit already knew that all too well. Setting aside the dangerous Collapsals and the Seaborn lurking in the oceans, the Originium scattered across the land and the infected that followed were enough to push the world toward despair.
Even so, that was still far from what Steven described—the world exploding.
If anyone else had said such a thing, Kal'tsit would've dismissed it as nonsense. But the one saying it was Steven.
And that made her unable to stay calm. Because she knew that while Steven was usually outrageous, he never joked about matters like this.
"The world exploding? You mean a Catastrophe?"
Frowning, she phrased it in terms both of them could understand, sitting upright at her desk, her expression turning serious.
"Well… if you put it that way, sure. A living Catastrophe. Continental scale. Once it happens, it'll probably blow away more than half the land in this world. Maybe even more."
Steven pointed at the world map on her desk, tracing a rough area with his finger as he explained.
"…You're not joking, are you?"
"How could that have anything to do with Mostima's intel? Even if that thing really is a mobile Feranmut, and even if it goes berserk, at most it could destroy a city."
Kal'tsit frowned deeply. She wasn't entirely ignorant of the intel herself. But in her understanding, gods and Feranmuts existed in this world, bound by certain agreements. A living Catastrophe causing that level of destruction was nearly impossible.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have allowed Mostima to leave Rhodes Island with that information.
At worst, it would just be a volcanic eruption. Nothing like what Steven described.
"I'm curious, have you actually seen it in person? Gone up and checked what's happening?"
Steven rubbed his chin. This was where his advantage as a transmigrator lay. He didn't need to see it—his memories told him what it was. Even someone as knowledgeable as Kal'tsit couldn't know details about something from another world.
"…It's not any Feranmut type I'm familiar with. It also seems impossible to communicate with. Besides, do you think I have time to go sightseeing there?"
Kal'tsit sighed and gestured toward the mountain of paperwork on her desk. Unlike Steven, she didn't have the luxury to go wherever she pleased. Nor could she teleport like him. Investigating everything personally was simply unrealistic.
"Well, now you do have time. Because if you ignore it and it explodes, you'll have all the time in the world to admire the grand apocalypse on an empty planet."
Steven shrugged, delivering the line like a prophet warning of the end of days.
After hearing Steven's prediction—one that sounded utterly impossible—Kal'tsit simply fixed her gaze on him, her expression grave as she stared straight into his eyes.
"Are you serious?"
"Let's put it this way. I know that thing. The one I saw before was less than a thousand meters in size. But when it died, the explosion alone was enough to completely wipe out an island roughly the size of a country. Now… if what we're seeing here is accurate, you can imagine what would happen."
Steven smiled slightly, a bit surprised that she believed him so readily, then told her honestly what he knew.
It sounded absurd—but that was literally what the official setting said. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gone to such lengths back then to fight the Zorah Magdaros interception mission and recreate that nostalgic "sunset" scene.
"…This is too important. I need to confirm it myself."
Kal'tsit's face turned pale. She saw no trace of exaggeration or deception in Steven's eyes. That meant he was most likely telling the truth—and she understood all too well what that implied.
Blowing up half a continent might sound exaggerated, and whether it could truly happen was debatable. But one thing she was certain of: the people living on this land wouldn't escape. An explosion of that magnitude could easily wipe out the entire civilization of this era.
"Do whatever you want. Though I doubt you'll find anything. That thing, just like me, doesn't originally belong to this world."
Steven waved his hand casually, leaving the decision to her while dropping a rather important detail about himself.
"Something that doesn't belong to this world…? Well, now's not the time to dwell on that."
Kal'tsit murmured softly. She had long suspected that Steven wasn't native to this planet. Hearing him admit it was unexpected, but not difficult to accept. In fact, it explained the origin of his strange abilities.
More importantly, even if Steven wasn't from this world, he wasn't trying to destroy it. The thing he described, however, could literally blast the entire land—and every nation on it—into oblivion.
"So what are you going to do? Didn't you say earlier that an organization like Rhodes Island isn't even qualified to step into something like this? Even if you know the consequences, what can you actually change?"
Steven, satisfied after seeing the expression he wanted on Kal'tsit's pale face, smiled as he rubbed his chin and asked quietly. Even if she knew, she shouldn't realistically be able to do anything.
"Me? I can't influence matters at the national level. But fortunately, my connections are… decent. And if what you're saying is true, I believe there will be quite a few willing to help us deal with it. After all, as you said, this is no longer about any single country or race. Anyone living on this land has the obligation to step forward and prevent that outcome."
Kal'tsit murmured to herself. She had always thought she would only call upon the Feranmuts and gods she had come to know over countless years when the beings from the depths of the sea finally surged onto the shores.
Who could have expected that the time to rely on them had already arrived?
