Aamir continued walking through the forest long after the last beast he had fought disappeared from his sight. The anger that had pushed him into the forest was still there, but it wasn't burning as strongly as before. The fight had helped him clear his head a little, though he knew that hadn't solved anything. Erin was still going to be sacrificed, thousands of other girls were still waiting for the same fate, and somewhere in the middle of all of it was a so-called god that everyone on Aurelion worshipped.
He slowed his steps when he noticed that the forest was changing. The trees were becoming thicker, and the glowing plants that had been scattered around the earlier part of the forest were becoming more common. Some of them grew high enough to cover parts of the sky, while others wrapped around tree trunks like vines. Aamir had no idea how far he had traveled from Edrin's house, but he knew he was nowhere near the city anymore.
