Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 Around the table

His grandmother listened to him silently with a serious expression on her face.

After that, she nodded.

"So that's how it is, huh? No wonder she left so hastily at that time. So that's the reason. Okay, little one, don't worry. Just go with her and meet her family. As long as little Hong is with you, you're going to be fine."

She patted his head as she smiled kindly.

"Even though her family is very powerful and influential, we are not pushovers either. If they try to put pressure on you by boasting about how great their family is and saying that you aren't worthy or some stupid things like that, then just tell them your grandfather's and my name. They will understand who we are and what kind of background you belong to."

Then she took a puff of her cigar as she spoke with a calm smile.

"But I doubt that you will need to do all of that. Not because little Hong will take care of it, but because by now they should have already investigated and found out your background and everything."

She laughed lightly.

"So just go with that silly girl and meet her family without any worries. Oh, also tell little Hong that when she comes to meet me, I will give her a gift. A very, very good gift that she will definitely like."

Xiao rolled his eyes as he nodded.

"Yes, yes. Sure, Grandmother. I will do as you say. I will also tell her about your gift. I am sure that she will be very happy and thankful for receiving it."

His grandmother laughed.

"Of course, brat. Hahaha! Let's drink some more. Everyone, let's celebrate to your heart's content."

Hearing her voice, everyone else at the party laughed as they ate and drank more while celebrating with even greater enthusiasm.

"Yes, Granny, we will do as you say."

"Of course."

"Today is a great day. Without a doubt, we will celebrate more."

"I also agree with Granny. Let's celebrate to our heart's content."

"Yesss! Let's drink more and dance. Xiao, you should do so as well."

Hearing his friends' eccentric and cheerful attitudes, his grandmother smiled proudly as she took another puff from her cigar.

"Good, good! You brats! Very good. I have also prepared pastries, cake, and much more beer as well, so let's eat those and celebrate even more!"

Hearing this, all of Xiao's friends cheered as they exclaimed,

"Thank you, Granny. You're the best!"

"Yes, yes! He's right! You're the best, Granny."

"Granny, from now on you're my idol!"

"No one is as great as you, Granny."

Even Xiao's trickster friend, Lin Fan, was very happy and praised his grandmother to no end.

Looking at his friends and grandmother enthusiastically chatting among themselves while enjoying each other's company in this cozy and comfortable atmosphere, Xiao felt an inexplicable sense of belonging and warmth in his heart.

As though his entire identity and sense of self came from being around those people. A small smile unknowingly appeared on his lips as he silently watched them.

"Oh, Xiao, my brother, why didn't you share your beautiful love story with us? I am sure that many of us are very eager to know it as well, you know? Even yours truly wants to know."

Hearing this, everyone else also agreed with him.

"Yes, yes, Xiao! Tell us!"

"He's right. I am also very eager to know."

"A young man and woman falling in love with each other and going through many ups and downs to finally reunite again? How romantic!"

"Just spill the beans already! Dammit."

"Yes, Xiao. We really want to know how you two actually met. How did it all begin?"

His grandmother also chuckled.

"Tell them already, little one. They are really eager to know."

Looking at how everyone was getting impatient and was truly curious, he decided not to keep them in suspense anymore.

Xiao smiled helplessly as he shook his head.

"Alright, alright. Everyone, you win. Let me explain to you how we actually met."

He took a sip of his beer as he began explaining.

"Uh, so it went like this. When I was a teenager, I was infected by a mysterious disease. Come to think of it, it actually hurt very badly at that time. Dammit, what a vile illness. Anyway... where was I? Ah yes, the disease. During that period of time, I was admitted to a hospital, and it was around that time that I met her, or rather, we met each other. She was in the bed next to mine because of a broken leg and other heavy injuries and fractures on her legs. Uh... after that, things began to proceed like this, and then..."

He patiently explained and told them his entire love story with Xi Hong. He talked about how great and talented she was, along with many other things.

All of them marveled at it as they listened to more of his story, and for some reason they liked to romanticize almost everything in it.

Xiao cringed slightly at this as his eyes twitched.

'Dammit, you don't have to romanticize and exaggerate every single thing! We're not that lovey dovey at all.'

But seeing his friends enjoying themselves as they speculated and discussed his story with excited faces and smiles, Xiao sighed lightly and simply let them be.

It didn't matter anyway. If they were having fun, even though they were exaggerating the smallest and simplest things, then he would just let them be. And just like that, the party continued as they ate, danced, sang, played hide and seek, and played truth or dare.

They did many fun things and laughed, enjoying themselves as they spent time together and found comfort in each other's company.

Before anyone realized it, time passed just like that. Soon, the party came to an end.

It was already past midnight. Before everyone left, his grandmother gave some more gifts to Xiao's friends, and Xiao walked out of the house to see them off.

Before leaving, his best friend, Lin Fan, patted him on the shoulder as he gave him a thumbs up.
