Right after Senno Arasaka declared that his father, Saburo Arasaka, had been murdered, he immediately pointed the finger at Militech:
"Reporters, I'm not here to play word games. I'm here to face a brutal truth. My father, Saburo Arasaka—the legendary man who once held the reins of the entire Arasaka Corporation—is now lying in a pool of blood!
"And I have solid evidence. I witnessed it with my own eyes. This was no accident, no natural death—he was assassinated by Militech operatives! Yes, by those heartless killers armed with the most advanced gear money can buy.
"They infiltrated my room at Konpeki Plaza and ruthlessly took the life of the man who had come to Night City to visit his son. Tell me, is this the kind of world we live in?!
"All this talk of 'order' and 'security'—it's a damn lie! My father, a man who gave everything to this city and to his company, was murdered by Militech's lunatics. I won't forgive anyone involved. And those behind the curtain pulling the strings—I'll make them pay. Arasaka will not fall. I will carry on my father's legacy, and those who hurt us... will pay in blood!
"Today, I declare to the world: Arasaka's vengeance has begun. I demand Militech hand over the perpetrators and repent for my father's death. If not... I will lead Arasaka's retaliation myself!"
Senno Arasaka's furious outburst left the Militech representatives at the scene completely stunned.
What had they just heard?
Militech assassins killed Saburo Arasaka?
What the hell did this have to do with Militech?
Granted, someone might have pulled this off inside Militech... but this? Right now?
Most of the Militech personnel had assumed Saburo's death might just be a tragic event they could capitalize on—snoop around a bit, gather intel, report up the chain, maybe earn a few brownie points.
Now they were being told that the Emperor's death had been a Militech assassination plot?
Those higher-ups… they really had no idea what they'd done, huh?
Didn't they understand that taking out Saburo Arasaka was tantamount to declaring war on Arasaka itself?
If this spiraled into a Fifth Corporate War, they'd be dragged along for the ride—whether they liked it or not.
The Militech crew could already feel the sharp gazes of Arasaka operatives drilling into them. Eyes filled with greed and ambition—like they were just stepping stones toward promotion.
You could almost imagine it: if Senno Arasaka gave the order to "kill the Militech dogs and get promoted," those corpo bastards would charge without a second thought—even if they had no combat implants.
Thankfully, Senno didn't give that order. Not yet.
His speech still showed some restraint—he left the door open. If Militech handed over the culprits and made reparations, the matter could be "put to rest."
But from Militech's point of view—
"Who the hell did this? Who ordered the hit on Saburo Arasaka without any internal briefing?"
The hawks within Militech scrambled to initiate emergency comms, trying to find out who the hell had pulled the trigger. Even they didn't know who was behind it.
Meanwhile, the doves were already holding emergency meetings, preparing to counterattack their own hawks.
Business had been going just fine—and then some lunatic went and killed Saburo Arasaka? What kind of suicide move was that?
If they dared to take out the Emperor of Arasaka today, what was stopping them from assassinating Militech's CEO or the President of New USA tomorrow?
This had to be rooted out.
The Militech crew had so quickly accepted Senno's accusation—"Militech assassins killed Saburo"—partly because they knew how reckless the hawks could be, and partly because their spies embedded within Arasaka had already sent reports confirming some details.
The assassin really had come from Militech. His identity had been verified.
They just didn't know who, exactly.
This wasn't even the worst of it—some hardliners in Militech still believed in nuking the world and rebuilding from scratch. So in comparison, this wasn't that extreme.
Still, it was sloppy.
They'd gotten caught. No one had taken responsibility. No hawk had stepped up to lead the charge and declare war. It was just a steaming pile of trouble with no one willing to claim it.
And while the whole world plunged into emergency meetings following Senno Arasaka's declaration, one small detail was overlooked:
The list of assassins.
To the corporate elites, these names meant nothing—just tools, footsoldiers with price tags.
Their backgrounds, faces, ages, lives... none of it mattered. Only their employer—Militech—did.
But to one person, one of those names meant everything.
A tattooed man sitting in a diner, chewing on synthetic steak and watching the broadcast with narrowed eyes.
His gaze fixated on one particular name in the list of Militech assassins.
One shooter had been identified as the one who pulled the trigger that killed Saburo Arasaka.
Alongside his code name... was his real name.
A simple, unremarkable name—one you could shout on a street corner and a dozen people might turn their heads.
But to the tattooed man...
That name belonged to a friend he'd grown up with.
A friend who, like many others, had left their hometown and died in Night City.
Was he imagining things?
He tried to brush it off.
But then, behind Senno Arasaka, he caught a glimpse of another familiar figure.
It was faint—only a brief glimpse—but it was a face he'd never forgotten, burned into his memory ever since it became famous across Night City.
Karl.
Back then, Karl had just been a rising merc. He had once sought this man out—to repay a debt owed to that dead friend.
But the tattooed man had told him: that friend had no family left. If Karl wanted to repay him, all he needed to do was remember his name.
And now—
The man closed his eyes.
He understood the truth behind Saburo Arasaka's assassination.
The truth, as carried by Karl's act of remembrance.
And he finally understood what it meant—to leave behind a name.
Allen.
Yes.
His friend's name was Allen. Just an ordinary name.
But the one who had killed Saburo Arasaka...
Was called Allen.
