(Author's POV)
Jacob bolted, then went dashing towards Iris. Like a child, he clung to her sleeve and asked, "How is he? How's the child?" his voice came out constricted, vulnerable. The four brothers stepped forward as well, waiting patiently for Healer Hector's reply.
"Your majesty, the surgery~ …. was a success," Iris relayed the news.
Hearing her words, Jacob suddenly felt as if the heavy stone rolling on his chest had vanished. He realised he had been holding his breath for too long and finally exhaled. His grip on Iris's sleeve loosened as he mumbled words full of gratitude, his voice hoarse, "Thank you~ …. Thank you so much, Iris. Thank you for saving his life. I will always remain indebted to you," his strong stature crumbling in front of everyone as his eyes were filled with fresh, unrestrained tears.
His choice of words left the brothers looking at him with pure astonishment. Indebted over Fabian's life, those words felt heavy, coming from the vampire king himself.
