The street came at them all at once.
Eun-chan threw both hands forward, and the whole road between them tore loose. Stones, curbs, the broken shells of cars, the lampposts and the bent shop fronts and the dead tree at the end of the lane, all of it lifted, churning, and rolled toward Joon and Areum like a wave breaking on a beach.
"Up," Joon said.
He didn't have the strength for a disc that could carry two. So he didn't try. He grabbed Areum around the waist, slammed one sphere down under his own boots, and threw the other straight up, and the magnet in it pulled them both off the ground after it. They went up the side of a building like they'd been yanked on a rope, and the wave of stone crashed into the wall beneath their feet.
They landed on the roof in a heap. Areum rolled off him, coughing.
"Warn me next time," she said.
"I said up."
"That's not a warning. That's a direction."
