Jin woke up to complete silence.
For a second, he didn't know what to do with that. He wasn't waking up to someone shaking his shoulder for lookout duty, and he wasn't dragging himself out of sleep before dawn to train with Ryu in the cold. There was no distant echo of gunshots or monster screams pulling him out of unconsciousness this time, just a silence so clean and still that it almost felt wrong after everything they had been through.
His back ached from sleeping against the wall, his muscles stiff from days of constant strain, and his ribs still throbbed dully from the last fight. His limbs felt heavy, like something had weighed them down while he slept, but for the first time in weeks he hadn't rested with one eye open the entire night.
He had actually slept.
